In the dramatic European Championship final in Munich, Croatia's best female athlete beat the silver medalist, German Kristin Pudenz, by eight centimeters. Hajduk Football Fan Convicted in Portugal for Attacking Reporter

ZAGREB, 16 August, 2022 - A 22-year-old Hajduk football fan was convicted in the Portuguese city of Guimarães for attacking a television cameraman, receiving a suspended prison sentence of one year and three months, and he must pay the cameraman €600 in damages, a local police spokesman told Hina. A suspended sentence means he has been released, but if he commits a new criminal offence in Portugal during the specified period, he will be imprisoned and serve the sentence, the spokesman said in a telephone conversation on Tuesday. ZAGREB, 15 August, 2022 - Croatia's shot put record holder, Filip Mihaljević, won the European title in the men's shot put event in Munich on Monday evening, with the winning distance of 21.88 metres which he had in his last throw. Croatia's Matea Parlov Koštro Wins Silver in Women's Marathon in Munich

ZAGREB, 15 August, 2022 - Croatian long-distance runner Matea Parlov Koštro on Monday won the silver medal in the women's marathon at the 2022 European Championships taking place in Munich. She finished with a time of 2:28.42, six seconds behind winner Aleksandra Lisowska of Poland. Third place was shared by Nienka Brinkman of the Netherlands and Miriam Dattke of Germany (2:28.52). This is Croatia's first marathon medal in a big competition.

Sinković Brothers Win Gold at European Rowing Championships

ZAGREB, 14 August, 2022 - Croatian brothers Valent and Martin Sinković on Sunday won the gold medal in the Men's Double Sculls at the 2022 European Rowing Championships taking place in Munich. The brothers won their 19th big competition medal with a time of 6:35.93. Spain's Aleix Garcia Pujolar and Rodrigo Conde Romen (6:38.46) finished second, while Latvia's Armandas Kelmelis and Dovydas Nemeravicius were third (6:42.11).

Zagreb Crew Wins 25th Neretva Boat Marathon

ZAGREB, 13 Aug (Hina) - The crew from Zagreb won the 25th Neretva Boat Marathon, and raced on Saturday afternoon down a 22.5 kilometre stretch of the river Neretva from the town of Metković to the seaport of Ploče. The Zagreb crew finished the race in two hours and eight minutes of rowing. The Stablina crew finished second, and a crew from Metković finished third. Thirty crews competed this year. The Neretva Boat Marathon is an amateur sporting competition between rowers in traditional boats. Croatian Football Fan Arrested in Portugal for Attacking TV Cameraman

ZAGREB, 11 August, 2022 - A Hajduk Split football fan was arrested in the northern Portuguese city of Guimarães on Wednesday night for attacking a television cameraman after a Europa Conference League qualifying match with the home side Vitoria. Vitoria won 1-0, but failed to qualify for the play-off because it had lost 1-3 in Split a week ago.
