By 21 September 2016

The 11th edition of Terra Madre Salone del Gusto, the most important international gastronomic event, will be held from September 22 to 26 in Turin, Italy. Terra Madre Salone del Gusto will host a number of delegates and exhibitors from around the world, and within the ESSEDRA project that promotes the idea of "Slow Food", a range of products from the Balkan region will be presented.

From Croatia you can expect the indigenous products Pelješac "varenik" - a highly concentrated grape syrup made from Plavac Mali, garlic from Ljubitovica, and traditional cheese Prgić.

The Croatian delegation at the event is the dedicated to food culture “Kinookus” - partner of ESSEDRA, and in collaboration with Slow Food konvivijima, Slow Food Dubrovnik, Slow Food Pelješac, Slow Food Zagreb Agram and Malim placom - a known small market of local and organic products.

The Pelješac "varenik" and garlic from Ljubitovica are coming to Turin with the prestigious seal of Slow Food Presidium - bringing together indigenous varieties and traditional products that are grown environmentally friendly and traditionally - strongly linked to the local culture and landscape. Through the platform of the Presidium, a group of producers of traditional quality products that are facing extinction are provided support in order to improve the quality of production, finding new investing opportunities in the national and international market while enabling them to promote the products.

The recently elected Executive Committee of the Pelješac "varenik" will be the focus of this year's presentation of Croatian products at Terra Madre Salone del Gusto. "Varenik is a symbol of Pelješac, its culture, the landscape and way of life. In addition, it is an important ingredient for the most famous dishes of the Dubrovnik cuisine," said Ivo Kara-Pešić, President of Kinookus and leader of Slow Food Dubrovnik.

Slow Food is the world's largest movement for the protection of traditional agriculture and breeding of biodiversity. The name Slow Food was selected as the answer to fast food, with the aim of opposition to unhealthy eating habits.
