Inland Istria, Croatian Tourism's Greatest Success Story

May 28, 2023 - As the world talks of sustainable tourism, a quiet revolution in the olive groves, vineyards, and forests of inland Istria is showing how it is done.  Back in 1998, in a forgotten tiny hillside village in northern Istria called Ipsi, close to the Slovenian border, local man Klaudio Ipsa made a decision which would start a revolution in tourism in the region.  A decision people laughed at, declaring him crazy.  In this picturesque village of just 18 people, down from a previous 126 just a few years before, Ipsa decided to revive 100 olive trees, as…

Not a day goes by without the arrival of some new technology and innovation in tourism, as with every other aspect of life these days. With less people reading and more addicted to their phones and apps, it seems that aspects of the life we knew are slowly eroding. And while Zagreb is a very modern city embracing new ways, one of the things I love about living here is its celebration of tradition,…

May 17, 2023 - A wonderful collision of tradition, heritage, and FINALLY quality tourism content away from the beach, as Made in Croatia opens as Hvar celebrates 155 years of organised tourism.  Something quite extraordinary happened in Hvar Town on Monday evening, even though it was uncharacteristically raining on Croatia's sunshine island. Indeed, perhaps the rain was a good thing, as it highlighted the event and the new addition to this season's tourism on Hvar.  The location was a magnificent building on the corner of the largest square in Dalmatia, the date May 15 - exactly 155 years since the…

May 15, 2023 - The parks and squares of Zagreb come alive again this weekend with Zagreb Open City Days.
