Bridge Over the River Cetina: Another Dalmatian Bridge Connected

March 5, 2023 - Good news for traffic in Omis - the bridge over the Cetina is finally connected. It has been a good 12 months for bridge enthusiasts in Dalmatia. Firstly, the opening of the much-anticipated Peljesac Bridge connecting the mainland to the Peljesac Peninsula, thereby bypassing the need to transit Bosnia and Hercegovina on the way from Split to Dubrovnik. The Chinese-made bridge has been a big initial success.  And now, another milestone, and there can't be many better examples of a bridge with a view than the recently connected bridge over the River Cetina. The Omis bypass…

Festival of Lights Zagreb Announcing a Colourful, Magical Intro to Spring

March 1, 2023 – Though the weather doesn’t look that promising these days, the hope is that spring is just around the corner in Croatia. It is March, after all; the days are a little longer and somewhat brighter (not just because of the snow), and we’re growing impatient with the desire to go back out and explore the streets of the capital some more. And what better way to do just that than the Festival of Lights Zagreb. Zagreb Tourist Board (Festival of Lights Zagreb website) And the arrival of spring and the notion of light have always been…

25 Reasons You Should NEVER Visit Croatia

February 26, 2023 - It is 8 years since I wrote my most popular article ever about Croatia - now meet the story behind it and the video version of 25 Reasons You Should Never Visit Croatia. It was one of the quickest articles I have ever written. Less than 25 minutes from start to finish.  And - full disclosure - beer was involved.  A client had asked me to write an article called 25 Reasons NEVER to Visit Croatia, a provocative title, with the clickbaity twist giving 25 reasons why Croatia was in fact an amazing place to visit.…

Pointers Travel: Croatia is an Undiscovered Gem for American Tourists

February 23, 2023 - I opened an office on 7th Avenue, and we’re starting our activities there, including the promotion of Croatia on the American market, proudly says Krunoslav Weinpert, founder and owner of DMC agency Pointers Travel from Osijek. And there are many reasons for him to be proud because for an agency from Croatia to have an office in New York is a great success and a huge challenge. It's one thing to come to a tourist fair for a couple of days, and quite another to be present at the market every single day, writes hrturizam. "We…

No More Croatia, Full of Life: New Slogan Sought

February 21, 2023 - The Kingdom of Accidental has announced a competition for the selection of the umbrella communication concept - Big Idea and the new visual identity of Croatia as a tourist destination. Not so many people know that the reason I moved to Croatia was due to the Croatian National Tourist Board. Back in 2002, I had just sold my house in the UK and was working in northern Somalia. I was looking for a place to buy on the coast in Europe outside of the UK, when this 30-second commercial came on CNN - Croatia, the Mediterranean as…

Croatia, Full of Colour: Rijeka Carnival 2023 Photo Special

February 19, 2023 - There is no street party quite like a Rijeka street party. A photo special from Rijeka Carnival 2023, with photos by Steve Tsentserensky.  I am still recovering from my last night out in Rijeka three years ago.  The 2020 Rijeka Carnival coincided with the opening of Rijeka 2020, as the city became the European City of Culture in that ill-fated year of 2020. None of us knew what was ahead of us on that fabulous opening night, and you can read about how Rijeka threw one of the best parties in my 20 years in Croatia…

The Guardian Features Croatia in Balkans, Eastern Europe

February 19, 2023 - Is Croatia in the Balkans and/or Eastern Europe. The Guardian seems to think so with a recent travel piece on affordable beach holidays.  One of the most contested topics on social media during the 12 years I have been writing about Croatia - and right behind whether Nikola Tesla was a Serb or a Croat - is whether or not Croatia is in the Balkans. And, to a lesser degree, whether or not Croatia is in Eastern Europe.  It is a topic which elicits thousands of comments, and one which I am planning to tackle from…

3T Conference: What Can Artificial Intelligence Bring to Tourism?

February 19, 2023 - This year’s 6th edition 3T - Tourism, Travel, and Tech conference will deal with the impact of artificial intelligence on the future of the tourism sector, its advantages and its dangers. The long-term processes of the development of artificial intelligence led to a real “explosion” of its application, and expectations are that in 2023 there will be even more active use of AI. Applications of systems such as DALL-E, ChatGPT, and similar will be more and more widespread, and their acceptance will affect all segments of society and business. It is inevitable to talk about the impact of artificial intelligence on the…

Meet Hrvoje Juric, a Slavonian Cycling to Europe's Northernmost Point

February 17, 2023 – One of the most rewarding parts of writing on TCN is the people we meet and the stories we hear. It’s all that much better when they come from eastern Croatia and are living proof that Slavonia really is full of life, 365. We are excited to finally publish one of our favourite interviews, featuring one man, one bicycle, and two dogs. Hrvoje Juric has cycled the world, written a book, and helped trace cycling and hiking trails in Croatia. He has done many other amazing things, and now he is on a 2,300-kilometre journey to…
