A really fun evening in Vrboska last night - year 10 of the Crazy Vessels Race.
I am preparing a blog about events in Vrboska because they do something so obvious and so effective that nobody else does, so it is worth highlighting. In the blog, I will list all the numerous sponsors of last night's event, because I do not have them now and the level of community participation is exemplary and also worthy of mention.
I was not sure what to expect from the Crazy Vessels Race, now in its tenth year, but when the Vrboska Tourist Board called national television to invite them to the event and received a positive response, I knew I had to go.
It was a lovely evening, full of fun, community spirit, lots of laughter and innovative 'boats', and the kids had a wonderful time. It was for me Dalmatia at its best, a gorgeous sunny backdrop to one of the most child-friendly places on the planet.
Some of the vessels were very innovative indeed...
It was also nice to see Jelsa Mayor Nikša Peronja supporting the event, and he gave an interview to HRT Television.
The 'race' was from one of the bridges on the canal to the island in the centre of the harbour and back. In pictures...
Congratulations to all the organisers on what was for me one of the best family events of the year. The girls have said Daddy has to come up with a vessel for next year. Thankfully the water is not too deep and we should not drown...
The evening continued with a sail with the fabulous Lantina traditional sailboats, but more on that experience in a forthcoming blog.
