American Airlines Philadelphia-Dubrovnik Flights Won't Return for 2022 Summer

December 12, 2021 - The latest flight news to Croatia as American Airlines Philadelphia-Dubrovnik flights will not resume next summer.

Ex Yu Aviation reports that American Airlines will not resume its Philadelphia-Dubrovnik flights for the 2022 summer season. While the airline successfully maintained the route in the 2019 summer, it did not return the following year with additional flights and capacity due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

But Dubrovnik isn't the only victim of American Airlines. Ex Yu Aviation adds that the airline won't resume seasonal flights to Prague and has discontinued operations to Edinburgh, Shannon and Hong Kong. The airline will, however, operate from New York to Doha, Qatar.

"Boeing continues to be unable to deliver the 787s we have on order, including as many as thirteen aircraft that were slated to be in our fleet by this winter. Without these widebodies, we simply won’t be able to fly as much internationally as we had planned next summer or as we did in summer 2019," said Vasu Raja, American’s Chief Revenue Officer.

United, on the other hand, has announced it would return to Dubrovnik next summer.

United introduced a regular line between Dubrovnik and New York in early July this year. Three flights a week were announced which quickly increased to four times a week from the beginning of July to the beginning of October this year.

Encouraged by the great interest, the airline announced that traffic between Dubrovnik and New York would run in the summer flight schedule next year.

Unlike this year, United Airlines plans to launch the first flight between Dubrovnik and New York at the end of May (May 27, 2022). This summer season, the last flight was at the very beginning of October, and for next year, United plans regular operations until the very end of October (October 26, 2022). Thus, this line will be in traffic for a full two months longer next summer compared to this season.

Delta Air Lines, which also operated regularly between New York and Dubrovnik this summer, has not yet released tickets on this route for next summer. If this route doesn't relaunch, United may increase its capacity to Dubrovnik, either by introducing a larger type of aircraft or by increasing weekly rotations. Only time will tell.

American Airlines Cancels Dubrovnik Service Indefinitely

July 2, 2020 - American Airlines has announced that it has canceled its Dubrovnik service indefinitely due to the impact of COVID-19.

Croatian Aviation reports that after the American Airlines route between Philadelphia and Dubrovnik was completely canceled for this summer season due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, the company announced in its latest statement that it no longer intends to resume the service.

Recall that the Philadelphia - Dubrovnik line was introduced in the summer of 2019, and operated from the beginning of June to the end of September three times a week, while in September the line had one more flight.

Before the outbreak of the pandemic, American Airlines announced that in the summer of 2020, aircraft on this line would operate daily, which was a clear sign that the line was very successful in the previous year.

Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, the line was completely canceled for this summer season, and flights were announced from June 2021 on Boeing 787-9 aircraft, which represented an increase in capacity and a standard of service on the line itself.

However, American Airlines announced in its latest statement that, due to the crisis caused by the pandemic, it is permanently canceling specific routes, including this one between Philadelphia and Dubrovnik.

The following American Airlines seasonal routes are discontinued:

from Charlotte to Barcelona, Rome, Paris and Munich,

from Chicago to Budapest, Krakow, Prague and Venice,

from Philadelphia to Berlin, Budapest, Casablanca and Dubrovnik.

With this, Croatia was again left without a direct connection with the United States. As many of you are already aware, American Airlines connected Croatia and the United States for the first time in 28 years last year.

American Airlines to Run Dubrovnik Service Until Late October in 2020

September 17, 2019 - The popular American Airlines service between Dubrovnik and Philadelphia will run until the end of October next year.

As many of you are already aware, American Airlines connected Croatia and the United States for the first time in 28 years this year. Namely, the Oneworld member began seasonal operations between Philadelphia and Dubrovnik from June 7, which will run until September 27, 2019. The American Airlines service operates using a 209-seat Boeing 767-300ER aircraft with a capacity of 28 seats in business class and 181 seats in economy class, and Wi-Fi services are available throughout the entire flight.

After the airline already boosted operations this year to add a fourth weekly flight on Sundays in September, the airline has announced they will now slow down next year.

American Airlines recently announced that it would boost operations between Philadelphia and Dubrovnik for the 2020 summer season. Namely, the OneWorld member will operate the Philadelphia-Dubrovnik route daily in 2020. Seasonal traffic on this route will commence from June 4, 2020, and their daily service will begin from the very start.

Ex Yu Aviation reported on Tuesday that the end of seasonal traffic for this service would run until October 24. The Boeing 767-300ER aircraft will fly again next year. Tickets are already on sale until mid-July.

This news, however, comes as no surprise, as the airline’s Vice President of Network and Schedule Planning, Vasu Raja, recently said that the service would run daily and run longer next year.

American Airlines' Managing Director for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa Sales, Tom Lattig, said back in April that there could even be additional flights next year.

"Wherever we see opportunities and demand, we'll go. As with the opening of our Dubrovnik - Philadelphia line, we are very specific about demand. Central Europe has the greatest growth potential. We are preparing to add more and more new links. We want to continue to lead the market. We will look closely at the results for the first year of operations. We are always looking at new opportunities to grow our network to ensure we offer service to where our customers wish to go,” Lattig said.

Furthermore, the head of the Dubrovnik Tourist Board, Romana Vlašić, also teased the idea.

"This pilot project from American Airlines will grow over the coming years to include more American cities as well as new airlines. We have been working intensively on the US market for years and it seems that this work is starting to bear fruit".

Getting to Croatia Easier than Ever for Tourists from USA, Canada, Australia

September 6, 2019 - And getting to your destination in Croatia has never been easier thanks to Solo Transfers.

Croatia has proven to be one of the most popular destinations for a summer holiday, though it’s not hard to see why. While the sweltering sun and sparkling sea are shoo-ins for the summer, Croatia’s capital and continental region offer year-round tourism and an exciting alternative for adventure tourists and cyclists.

Croatia’s popularity doesn’t look like its going anywhere anytime soon, so it’s no surprise that it didn’t take long for some of the world’s top airlines to catch onto the Croatia buzz and ensure their passengers can get to the destination comfortably, without too many connections, and, perhaps most importantly, with ease.

Some of Croatia’s biggest markets, like the USA, Canada, and Australia, are luckier than ever to have connections carrying them to Croatia with convenience.

Recall, travelers in America can be thankful that American Airlines connected the United States and Croatia for the first time in almost 30 years with their seasonal service between Philadelphia and Dubrovnik this summer. The Oneworld member began operations between Philadelphia and Dubrovnik from June 7, which will run until September 27, 2019. The airline will add a fourth weekly flight on Sundays in September and already announced that there is no slowing down next year. Thus, American Airlines will operate the Philadelphia-Dubrovnik route daily in 2020, which will commence on June 4, 2020!

Furthermore, back in 2018, Air Canada Rouge commenced its seasonal service from Toronto to Zagreb, which saw the return of the Air Canada brand to Croatia after 27 years. Air Canada operates four times a week between Toronto and Zagreb and runs until October. Air Transat also operates between the two cities on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays during the peak season.

And our friends from Australia haven’t been left out, either. Since many Australians fly over Dubai onwards to Croatia, the daily Emirates connection between Zagreb and Dubai has been a lifesaver. However, FlyDubai will operate the Zagreb-Dubai line instead of Emirates this winter, just as they did last winter. Namely, FlyDubai will replace Emirates for the entire winter flight schedule, and take over operations from October 27, 2019, to March 28, 2020. Thus, after November 11, no flights will run on Tuesdays and Thursdays, while some weeks will have no flights on Mondays. The daily frequency returns around the Christmas and New Year holidays, i.e., from December 13, 2019, to January 13, 2020.

Because getting to Croatia is now easier than ever, wouldn’t it make sense that getting to your Croatian destination should follow suit? Thanks to Solo Transfers, you can count on a reliable and friendly transfer service to get you where you need to go. Whether you’re flying in from the States to Dubrovnik, or trekking from Canada or Australia to Zagreb, Solo Transfers promises door-to-door service any time of the year.

American Airlines to Connect Chicago and Dubrovnik Next?

August 31, 2019 - After Philadelphia, is an American Airlines connection between Chicago and Dubrovnik on the horizon?

American Airlines connected the United States and Croatia for the first time in almost 30 years with their seasonal service between Philadelphia and Dubrovnik this summer. Recall, the Oneworld member began operations between Philadelphia and Dubrovnik from June 7, which will run until September 27, 2019. The airline will actually add a fourth weekly flight on Sundays in September and already announced that there is no slowing down next year. Thus, American Airlines will operate the Philadelphia-Dubrovnik route daily in 2020, which will commence on June 4, 2020.

“Dubrovnik went really, really well for us. We can connect 95% of the United States over Philadelphia, and [at] none of our competitors’ operations in New York or the northeast can they do anything really remotely close to that,” said American Airlines' Vice President for Network and Schedule Planning, Vasu Raja.

Furthermore, Ex Yu Aviation reports that the Philadelphia connection doesn’t seem to be the only one in the plans for this famous airline.

“As we go and start things in Philadelphia, and they work, it becomes a means to develop routes for Chicago. Barcelona, Venice, Prague and Budapest all started from Philadelphia, and we realized they could all work from Chicago too, given where the traffic was coming from," Raja added, hinting that the airline could launch a service between Chicago and Dubrovnik in the coming years, as its new routes out of Philadelphia are used as a guinea pig for future operations out of O’Hare airport. Furthermore, the airline will launch seasonal flights from Chicago to Budapest and Prague next year, after operating from Philadelphia for the last two years.

However, new connections from the US are no surprise.

"This pilot project with American Airlines will grow over the coming years to include more American cities as well as new airlines. We have been working intensively on the US market for years. The American market is the second most strategically important for us in terms of visitors, just behind the United Kingdom. We expect flights to be extended throughout the season first and then for new routes to be added,” said Romana Vlašić of the Dubrovnik Tourist Board.

The American Airlines service between Philadelphia and Dubrovnik operates using a 209-seat Boeing 767-300ER aircraft with a capacity of 28 seats in business class and 181 seats in economy class, and Wi-Fi services are available throughout the entire flight.

American Airlines to Service Dubrovnik Daily in 2020

As many of you are already aware, American Airlines connected Croatia and the United States for the first time in 28 years this year. After the airline already boosted operations this year to add a fourth weekly flight on Sundays in September, the airline has no signs of slowing down for next year.

Ex Yu Aviation reported just two days ago that American Airlines would boost operations between Philadelphia and Dubrovnik for the 2020 summer season - and today, we finally have the 2020 flight schedule.

Namely, Avio Radar reports that the OneWorld member will operate the Philadelphia-Dubrovnik route daily in 2020. Seasonal traffic on this route will commence from June 4, 2020, and their daily service will begin from the very start. Tickets are already on sale until mid-July.

The end of seasonal traffic for this service is currently unknown, though the Boeing 767-300ER aircraft will fly again next year.

This news should come as no surprise. Recall, just two days ago, the airline’s Vice President of Network and Schedule Planning, Vasu Raja, said that there would be a daily increase on the service, which is also expected to run longer next year.

American Airlines Boosting Operations to Dubrovnik for 2020

American Airlines Ready to Connect Croatia and USA for First Time in 28 Years

From next Saturday, Croatia and the United States will be connected for the first time in almost 30 years thanks to a direct flight by American Airlines! Namely, the new seasonal line between Philadelphia and Dubrovnik will operate on the world's largest airline from June 7th, reports Dalmacija Danas and Ex Yu Aviation on June 3, 2019.

On June 7 at 18:10 local time, passengers will travel on the 209-seat Boeing 767-300ER aircraft from the Philadelphia international airport, and will land in Dubrovnik at 9:30 am the next day. The flight duration is 9 hours and 15 minutes. The first flight from Dubrovnik to Philadelphia takes off on June 8th at 11:40 am and is 10 hours and 25 minutes.

"American Airlines is very pleased with the bookings for our new flight between Dubrovnik and Philadelphia. While it is performing in line with our expectations, it is too early for us to comment on our 2020 summer schedule as that planning process is still being done,” the airline said to Ex Yu Aviation

Flights to Dubrovnik will run on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, and from Dubrovnik on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Mondays. Recall, bookings were so good on this route that American Airlines announced they had to boost operations back in April.

Namely, in September, the service will operate four times a week until the end of the month.

"We constantly evaluate our network to ensure we are maximizing our fleet while matching customer demand. It was a result of this process that we were able to add the fourth weekly frequency in September. The summer of 2019 represents a major strategic overhaul in our transatlantic network. In terms of [available seat miles] and seats, we are growing more than our competitors, due to drivers such as increased departures, stage length and gauge increase,” American Airlines added.

The Croatian Tourist Board is also pleased.

"By cooperating with airlines through our program of strategic promotional campaigns on key markets, we position Croatia as an attractive and well connected year-round destination. We are particularly excited about the new intercontinental service between Philadelphia and Dubrovnik which will link us with the US market for the first time in almost thirty years,” said director of the Croatian Tourist Board Kristjan Stančić, who also announced a promotional and marketing campaign with a budget of 5.3 million euro for all all joint marketing activities in 2019.

American Airlines Boosts Operations on New Dubrovnik Route

April 1, 2019 - Most of you are already aware by now that American Airlines will connect Croatia and the United States for the first time in 28 years. Namely, the Oneworld member will join Philadelphia and Dubrovnik seasonally, from June 7 to September 27, 2019.

As AvioRadar exclusively reports, in addition to the already announced three flights a week between Philadelphia and Dubrovnik, American Airlines has added yet another trip to operate on Sundays in September, set to depart and arrive at the same time as the other three weekly flights. You can see the timetable below.

Screenshot 2019-04-01 at 13.44.16.pngEx Yu Aviation previously reported that American Airlines is getting ready to launch its Dubrovnik service.

"Wherever we see opportunities and demand, we'll go. As with the opening of our Dubrovnik - Philadelphia line, we are very specific about demand. Central Europe has the greatest growth potential. We are preparing to add more and more new links. We want to continue to lead the market," American Airlines' Managing Director for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa Sales, Tom Lattig, said.

And there could even be additional flights next year.

"We will look closely at the results for the first year of operations. We are always looking at new opportunities to grow our network to ensure we offer service to where our customers wish to go,” Lattig added.

"This pilot project from American Airlines will grow over the coming years to include more American cities as well as new airlines. We have been working intensively on the US market for years and it seems that this work is starting to bear fruit,” Romana Vlašić of the Dubrovnik Tourist Board said.

And the connection to Philadelphia has already shown impressive bookings.

"We have been negotiating the Philadelphia service with American Airlines for years. Advanced bookings have so far been excellent and the Dubrovnik Tourism Board has launched a marketing campaign in the States,” Dubrovnik Tourist Board director Romana Vlašić added,

Recall, the American Airlines service will operate using a 209-seat Boeing 767-300ER aircraft with a capacity of 28 high-class seats in business class and 181 seats in economy class, and Wi-Fi services will be available throughout the entire flight.

Airline company American Airlines currently owns 955 aircraft and employs 122,000 people. They operate 6,700 flights a day to 350 destinations. Philadelphia is the largest hub of American Airlines on the east coast.

Ex-Yu Aviation also reported March 25, 2019, that the newly formed organization VisitUSA Croatia hopes to expand operations between Croatia and the US.

"We are primarily looking to secure services between Zagreb and New York as this route would fuel travel between the two countries, however, at this point, we do not have any concrete announcements for a new year-round service. This will only happen if a number of stakeholders get involved in the project. Croatia is a regional tourism powerhouse and we must also use this advantage to position ourselves as a leader in outbound US travel for the entire region,” said VisitUSA Croatia.

Robert Kohorst, the US Ambassador to Croatia, is also a fan of the idea.

"This new nonstop service between the USA and Croatia sends a strong and positive message to the tourism sector. I am hopeful that all of the planned nonstop flights this summer will be full and that it will lead to the launch of new routes, which will, in turn, generate additional tourism and business exchange".

American Airlines Confident in New Dubrovnik Service

As most of us are aware, American Airlines will operate a brand new summer route between Philadelphia and Dubrovnik in 2019. The new seasonal service, which will begin on June 7, 2019, is destined for success, reports Ex Yu Aviation on December 18, 2018.

"We are pleased about the advanced bookings we have already received to Dubrovnik and we are looking forward to serving our customers on this new and exciting route. We will, in due course, consider prolonging the flying season to the coastal city. We always review the performance of our new routes and ensure we have the right schedule for our customers," said American Airlines.

Dubrovnik Airport is also excited about the anticipated success of the new American Airlines route, which should also influence even more traffic to the States.

"American Airlines chose Dubrovnik for several reasons. They have recognized us as a quality destination and our airport worked very hard during the negotiating process in order to secure these flights. Initially, this will be a seasonal service which will be maintained three times per week,” General Manager of Dubrovnik Airport, Frano Luetić, said previously, with the hope that there would be even more flights on this route in the coming years.

And why did the world’s largest airline opt for Dubrovnik over Zagreb and Split? Due to its popularity, of course!

"We are always looking at new opportunities to grow our network to ensure we offer service to where our customers wish to go." The new service should be popular among both leisure travelers and VFR (Visiting Friends and Relatives), said the airline.

American Airlines will begin operations to Dubrovnik with the 209-seat Boeing 767-300ER.

"At present, the B767 is the right aircraft for this route, however, we are always evaluating our network to ensure we are maximizing our assets and meeting customer demand. We are excited to serve the picturesque city of Dubrovnik and we are looking forward to serving our customers in both Croatia and the US, thanks to our expansive network of connections", they said.

In the future, however, American Airlines will use the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, as the airline confirmed the B767-300ERs would retire in 2021.
