Austrian Airlines Flights to Split and Dubrovnik To Finally Begin!

April 26, 2021 - The latest flight news to Croatia as Austrian Airlines flights to Split and Dubrovnik will finally operate after a series of delays!

Croatian Aviation reports that Austrian Airlines will soon resume traffic on regular flights from Vienna to Dubrovnik Airport and Split Airport! Although the company has been planning regular routes to these two destinations since the beginning of April, this did not happen due to passenger restrictions, low bookings, and the epidemiological situation. At the end of March, the company resumed traffic on the line from Vienna to Zagreb and will now resume traffic to two destinations on the coast.

The Vienna-Split-Vienna route will operate from Friday, April 30, with three flights every Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. E190 aircraft are planned on the route, but in case of higher demand, the company will increase its capacity by replacing the aircraft with a fleet from the A320 family. In the peak of the summer season, Austrian plans to operate daily between Vienna and Split.

Only a few days later, the Vienna-Dubrovnik-Vienna line will be in traffic again. Two flights a week have been announced; from May 2, every Friday and Sunday, and from May 12, there should be an increase in the number of weekly operations. Lufthansa and Iberia have already resumed traffic to Dubrovnik; as was announced earlier, Spanish Vueling will soon do the same. At the beginning of May, Polish LOT planes will land at Dubrovnik Airport again.

In addition to Zagreb, Dubrovnik, and Split, Austrian Airlines also operates to Zadar Airport. The flight from Vienna to Zadar is currently postponed to May 13, and two flights a week are available for booking from that date. Austrian plans to gradually increase the number of weekly flights between Vienna and Zadar, and A319 aircraft have been announced on the route.

At the beginning of May, Austrian will operate between Zagreb and Vienna four times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.

Austrian Flights to Split and Dubrovnik Return this Month, LOT to Resume Warsaw-Dubrovnik

April 14, 2021 - The latest flight news to Croatia as Austrian flights to Split and Dubrovnik resume later this month, and LOT announces regular traffic between Warsaw and Dubrovnik from April 28.

Croatian Aviation reports that Austrian Airlines will resume operations on its seasonal routes from Vienna to Split Airport and Dubrovnik Airport by the end of April. Although these lines in previous years mostly started with traffic as early as the end of March, due to the impact of the pandemic, this will happen a month later this year.

The Vienna - Dubrovnik - Vienna line will operate from April 23, once a week, every Friday, and as early as the beginning of May, two more flights a week will be added, so Austrian will operate to Dubrovnik every Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday.

The Vienna - Split - Vienna line has been announced from April 30, also three times a week, on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. E195 aircraft and aircraft from the A320 family have been announced on both mentioned routes.

Polish LOT Polish Airlines has announced the resumption of regular traffic between Warsaw and Dubrovnik. The line should be in operation from April 28. Until the second half of May, two flights a week have been announced, on Wednesdays and Saturdays. E195 aircraft have been announced on this route, which can carry up to 112 passengers in the Polish national transport fleet.

Both companies, Austrian Airlines and LOT Polish Airlines, have resumed traffic to Zagreb Airport. Austrian currently operates four times a week to Zagreb (Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday), and Polish LOT also operates to Zagreb on the same days.

Furthermore, Ex Yu Aviation reports that Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) will restart its seasonal line from Kyiv to Pula this summer and has announced its return to Split after seven years. Both lines will run two flights per week and begin on June 2 and June 3. Boeing 737-800 jet will operate on this route. You can find more information about the Kyiv - Pula line here.

Flights to Croatia: Austrian Airlines Resumes Traffic to Croatia from End of March

February 19, 2021 - The latest news for flights to Croatia as Austrian Airlines resumes traffic to Croatia from the end of March.

Croatian Aviation reports that from the beginning of its summer flight schedule, Austrian national carrier Austrian Airlines will again operate to three Croatian airports from its base in Vienna; to Dubrovnik, Split, and Zagreb!

A spokeswoman for the airline confirmed the flight schedule for March and April. While the number of weekly flights for the rest of the summer months has not yet been defined, the airline will define the flight schedule for the rest of the summer season in the next two weeks.

With the first day of the summer flight schedule (March 28), Austrian will renew three routes to Zagreb, Split, and Dubrovnik airports.

You can find the confirmed flight schedule below:

Four flights a week to Dubrovnik and Split
The Vienna - Dubrovnik - Vienna line will also start operating from March 28, and in March, it will also operate on Tuesday, March 30.

In the first week of April, two flights have been announced (Thursday and Friday, April 1 and 2); three flights are available in the second week (additionally on Sundays). From the third week of April, the airline will have four flights a week to Dubrovnik, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays.

By the end of April, Austrian will operate 17 return flights between Dubrovnik and Vienna, using various aircraft types from its fleet (DashQ400, Embraer 195, Airbus 319, and Airbus 320), with A319 aircraft operating on most flights. 4,664 seats are on offer between Dubrovnik and Vienna until the end of April.

The same number of flights, 17 of them, was announced on the Vienna - Split - Vienna route. The company will gradually increase the number of weekly operations, just as in Dubrovnik, offering four flights a week every week from mid-April, also on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays.

Concerning the line to Dubrovnik, larger aircraft (mainly A320) will operate to Split, so the number of offered seats between Split and Vienna is significantly higher than the other two lines to Croatia. A total of 5,400 seats between the two cities are currently available on the market.

It is currently possible to buy tickets for a direct flight to Zadar Airport from May 1. Still, Austrian Airlines has not yet defined its flight schedule from May to September, so it is advised you wait another 10 days when the flight schedule for the peak of the summer season should be confirmed.

The return of Austrian Airlines is important news for the three mentioned Croatian airports. Although this is a smaller number of flights than in 2019, Austrian will offer an enviable number of flights to Croatia in the pre-season given the current situation. Namely, in the stated period of only one month, a total of more than 15 thousand seats are available on the flights of this well-known airline.

Flights to Croatia: Austrian Airlines Returns to Zagreb for Holidays

November 26, 2020 - The latest news for flights to Croatia as Austrian Airlines returns to Zagreb for the holiday season.

Croatian Aviation reports that Austrian Airlines will briefly resume operations on the Vienna-Zagreb route. During the Christmas and New Year holidays, the Austrian company will operate 14 flights between the capitals of Austria and Croatia.

Austrian Airlines has been a long-time user of Zagreb Airport and one of the biggest unpleasant surprises in this crisis year was the news that the Vienna-Zagreb route was interrupted.

Although the reason for the temporary departure from Zagreb is clear (drop in demand), the question remains how Austrian regularly operates to smaller destinations in the region, such as Pristina, Skopje and Sarajevo, and is also present in Belgrade.

The line will be in operation from December 18 to January 3, during which time Austrian Airlines will make 14 rotations between Vienna and Zagreb.

Direct flights will be available on the following days: Friday, December 18, Saturday, December 19, Sunday, December 20, Monday, December 28, Wednesday, December 30, Saturday, January 2, and Sunday, January 3.

DashQ400 aircraft with a capacity of 76 seats in the Austrian Airlines fleet has been announced for all flights. A larger E195 aircraft with a capacity of 120 seats was announced for the flight on Sunday, December 20.

Austrian Airlines will offer 1,152 seats between Vienna and Zagreb in three weeks of operation.

After January 3, this line will be interrupted again, according to the airline's current plan, until March 1 next year, when Austrian should resume daily traffic between Zagreb and Vienna. Whether this will really happen will depend on the demand itself and the epidemiological situation.

Unlike other airlines (KLM, Eurowings and Edelweiss), Austrian will not introduce direct scheduled flights to coastal airports this winter.

Flights to Croatia: easyJet Stops Dubrovnik and Reduces Split, Austrian Cancels Zagreb

October 6, 2020 - The latest news for flights to Croatia as easyJet stops Dubrovnik and reduces Split, and Austrian Airlines cancels Zagreb.

Croatian Aviation reports that easyJet completed most of its lines to Dubrovnik on the first weekend of October. Until the end of October, this well-known low-cost carrier will operate only to Split Airport.

Although easyJet flew to Pula, Zadar, Split, and Dubrovnik until the end of the season (end of October) in last year's summer flight schedule, this will not happen this year. Lines to Zadar and Pula stopped operating at the end of September, and the company planned to operate on 4 lines to Dubrovnik and eight to Split by the end of October.

easyJet further reduced traffic to Dubrovnik. In the first five days of October, it operated the last flights of this year from Bristol, Edinburgh, and London to Dubrovnik Airport. Although tickets were on sale until the very end of October, this airline decided to stop traffic much earlier than planned.

easyJet previously announced traffic on 8 international routes to Split by the end of October, but two lines, from Bristol and Glasgow to Split, were canceled.

The company now offers 6 lines to Split Airport:

Basel - Split, twice a week, until October 24,

Berlin - Split, twice a week, until October 24,

Gatwick - Split, twice a week, until October 24,

Geneva - Split, once a week, until October 24,

Luton - Split, once a week, until October 24,

Manchester - Split, once a week, until October 17.

With the end of the summer flight schedule (October 24), easyJet will suspend operations to Split Airport and end this year's summer season to Croatian airports. easyJet plans to operate to Croatian destinations in 2021 on all lines.

Croatian Aviation also reports that as confirmed to them by Austrian Airlines spokesperson, the airline will temporarily cancel the Vienna - Zagreb route in mid-October.

Austria Airlines will operate its last flight to Zagreb on Monday, October 16, while all other flights after that date have been canceled.

Exceptionally, the company plans to operate on this line during the Christmas and New Year holidays (only 10 flights), but it will depend on passenger demand. From January to the beginning of the summer flight schedule (end of March next year), Austrian will not operate on this route.

After the departure of Emirates and FlyDubai, this is another blow for Zagreb Airport. Austrian has been a long-term user of Zagreb Airport and has normally operated on this route several times a day, both in summer and winter.

After many years, this winter, Zagreb will be without a direct connection with Vienna.

Flights to Croatia: Austrian Airlines Reduces Traffic to Croatia

September 22, 2020 - The latest news for flights to Croatia as Austrian Airlines reduces traffic to Croatia in October.

Austrian national airline Austrian Airlines has announced its flight schedule for October. The company will operate to three Croatian airports until mid-October; Zagreb, Split, and Dubrovnik.

As confirmed to Croatian Aviation by this airline, due to travel restrictions, Austria Airlines still decided to reduce the number of weekly flights to Croatia and end its traffic to Split earlier. As a reminder, Austrian launched the Vienna-Zadar line this summer, which was in operation until mid-September. Despite the pandemic, the company is satisfied with the results of this line and plans to continue operating on the same in the summer season of 2021.

The Vienna-Split route operated 6 times a week during the summer flight schedule, every day except Tuesday. Although Austrian planned to operate on this route throughout October, due to restrictions and low demand, the last flight will be earlier than planned - on October 10. From October 1 to October 10, the Vienna-Split route will be open three times a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays in the afternoon.

The Vienna-Dubrovnik line also operated six times a week this summer season. It will be in traffic until the very end of the summer flight schedule - October 23.

From October 2 to 5, four flights a week have been announced, on Mondays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays,

From October 11 to 18, two flights a week have been announced, on Fridays and Sundays,

From October 19 to 23, two flights a week were announced, Mondays and Sundays.

Austrian is also announcing changes on the Vienna-Zagreb route. Although this line was supposed to operate 6 times a week in September, the company often canceled certain departures due to weak demand. For this reason, there has been a reduction in the number of weekly flights on the route, so Austrian will connect Vienna and Zagreb four times a week in October, every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. Flights were announced in the afternoon.

In the summer flight schedule of the previous years, Austrian flew to Split and Dubrovnik every day, often using its largest aircraft from the Airbus family (A321). At the same time, on the Vienna-Zagreb route, it operated up to 3 times a day. The only route that should be in traffic in this year's winter flight schedule is Vienna-Zagreb, but the number of weekly flights is still uncertain. The airline's plan for this route in the winter months should be announced in mid-October.

Flights to Croatia: Austrian Airlines Confirms Zadar Route, Ryanair Returns from London and Dublin

June 30, 2020 - The latest news from around Croatia’s airports for flights to Croatia with updates from Split, Dubrovnik, Pula and Zadar.

Croatian Aviation reports that Austrian national carrier Austrian Airlines will introduce the Vienna-Zadar route in this year's summer flight schedule. The route was initially announced from the end of March with one flight per day.

Austrian currently operates from Vienna to Zagreb, Split and Dubrovnik.

The Vienna-Zadar line is being introduced, three times a week, from July 10. Type 195 aircraft will operate on this line every Monday, Thursday and Saturday, with the exception of the first day of operations when Austrian will operate on Friday as well. As we mentioned, the line was originally supposed to operate daily, with a larger capacity aircraft from the very beginning of the summer flight schedule, but due to the pandemic, it is being introduced only now, in July.

Although Austrian announced the flight schedule for July, there have been some changes and a significant increase in the number of weekly flights to Croatia.

The Vienna-Dubrovnik line was announced four times a week through July, but there has been a change, and the line will run as many as 6 times a week (from July 10), every day except Tuesdays.

The Vienna-Split route was to operate only three times a week, though the company modified the flight schedule to this airport and increased the number of weekly flights to as many as six (every day except Wednesday).

The Vienna-Zagreb route will have 8 weekly rotations with daily flights, with the exception that there will be two flights a day on the line on Thursdays.

Croatian Aviation also reports that well-known Irish low-budget carrier Ryanair will launch lines from Ireland and Great Britain to four Croatian airports this week.

From the beginning of July, Ryanair will fly to Croatia again. Flights to Zadar have already started (from Stuttgart and Vienna), while the other 8 lines from Zadar will begin operating this week.

From Wednesday, July 1, Ryanair will operate again on the route Dublin - Dubrovnik - Dublin. Flights are announced until the end of October and will take place twice a week, on Wednesdays and Sundays. As a reminder, before the pandemic, the company planned 4 weeks of flights on this line.

From Thursday, July 2, the company will establish traffic on the London - Pula - London (Stansted Airport) line. Flights on this route are also announced by the end of October, twice a week, on Thursdays and Sundays. In previous summer seasons, Ryanair operated on this line up to 5 times a week.

From Saturday, July 4, the Dublin - Split - Dublin line will be introduced, which should operate until October 24, i.e., the end of the summer flight schedule. Although Ryanair flew significantly more weekly flights on this route last year, due to the crisis and reduced demand, two flights a week are currently announced, every Tuesday and Saturday.

In the second week of July, from Monday, July 6, Ryanair will operate again on the London - Rijeka - London (Stansted Airport) line. Throughout July, only one flight per week is announced, every Monday, while an increase to two weeks of flight is expected from the beginning of August (additional flight on Fridays). This line will operate slightly shorter than the others, until the end of September.

Ryanair previously canceled the line from London to Osijek, and it will operate to four Croatian airports this summer as well. The line from London to Zadar has also been canceled in this year's summer flight schedule.

As for AerLingus, which usually flies from Dublin to Pula, Split and Dubrovnik, all lines (except the one for Split) were marked as sold out in July and it is currently not possible to buy a ticket. The company confirmed that they are monitoring the situation and will react by introducing lines as soon as the conditions are met.

Flights to Croatia: SAS Boosts Traffic to Split, Austrian Airlines Changes for July

June 23, 2020 - The latest news from around Croatia’s airports for flights to Croatia with updates from Zagreb, Split, Dubrovnik and Zadar.

Croatian AviationCroatian Aviation reports that Scandinavian Airlines, better known as SAS, has announced a modified flight schedule for July, in which the number of weekly flights to Split has increased significantly.

As we announced earlier this month, the company launched flights to Split from Copenhagen and Oslo in a reduced form, only once a week from Oslo and twice a week from Copenhagen.

The company has decided to increase the number of weekly flights and add a route from Stockholm to Split, so SAS will connect Split with Scandinavia according to the following schedule:

Copenhagen - Split, from June 29, daily (so far twice a week)

Oslo - Split, from June 29, six times a week, except Thursdays (so far once a week).

SAS will also introduce Stockholm - Split, from July 1, which will operate daily!

On the routes from Copenhagen and Oslo, the company will use A320neo aircraft, while B737-800 aircraft will operate from Stockholm. The A320 in the fleet of this carrier has a capacity of 174 passengers, while the B737-800 has a capacity for 181 passengers.

Furthermore, Croatian Aviation reports that Austrian Airlines changed its flight schedule for July, and there were some operational changes on the routes from Vienna to Croatia.

Austrian made its first flight this summer to Dubrovnik on Sunday and will operate twice a week on the route to Vienna until the end of the month. On Wednesday, Austrian will launch a line to Split. As of June 29, a daily connection between Vienna and Zagreb will be introduced.

In July, there will be some changes to these lines. Namely, Austrian Airlines will increase the number of weekly flights to Dubrovnik and Zagreb and decrease it to Split.

Vienna-Dubrovnik will be increased from the existing two flights a week to four (Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays),

Vienna-Split will be reduced from the existing four flights to three (Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays),

Vienna - Zagreb will continue to operate daily, but on Thursdays, there will be two daily flights on this line (a total of 8 flights per week).

The Vienna-Zadar line will not be in operation in July either, so its launch this summer season is questionable.

The announcement of Lufthansa, which is part of the group that also includes Austrian Airlines, is expected soon, so we believe that Lufthansa will increase the number of flights to Croatia.

Flights to Croatia: Latest from Zadar Airport, Aegean Airlines, and More

June 2, 2020 - The latest news from around Croatia’s airports for flights to Croatia with updates from Zagreb, Split and Dubrovnik, and Zadar.

Avio Radar wrote about when traffic would return to Zadar Airport, which was meant to be the Ryanair hub this year. Namely, Croatian national airline Croatia Airlines has postponed the start of traffic on the domestic route from Zadar to Zagreb to June 8, instead of the previously planned start of June 1. German low-cost airline Eurowings will begin operating on June 20 with a route from Cologne, initially once a week, on Saturdays.

Ryanair plans to resume traffic to Zadar on selected lines from July. The first line from Stuttgart to Zadar, on which Lauda operates, will run from June 28. All other lines are planned to begin operations from the first week of July.

There is not a single new line planned for this year with aircraft based in Zadar. Also, no routes from France, Ireland, the Netherlands, Sweden and the United Kingdom are on offer.

Furthermore, on all routes operating from the beginning of July, the number of flights per week has been significantly reduced. Most flights per week have been announced on the Vienna-Zadar route, twice a week from the beginning of July, with reinforcements to three times a week in August.

In other flight news, Ex Yu Aviation reports that Aegean Airlines has delayed the resumption of all of its flights to Croatia until September. While the airline planned to fly from Athens to Zagreb, Dubrovnik and Split from the beginning of July, they will not resume operations until September 1 to Split, September 2 to Zagreb, and September 3 to Dubrovnik.

Finally, Croatian Aviation reports that Austrian national carrier Austrian Airlines has confirmed it is re-establishing the Vienna-Zagreb-Vienna route from the end of June.

As announced earlier, Austrian will fly from Vienna to Split and Dubrovnik again this month, so it was logical to expect the introduction of a route to Zagreb, on which, in addition to Austrian, Croatia Airlines also operates regularly.

From June 29, Austrian Airlines will once again connect the capitals of Austria and Croatia with one flight a day.

In the morning, a departure from Vienna to Zagreb is planned at 06:40, with arrival in Zagreb at 7:35. Departure from Zagreb to Vienna is planned for 8:15 am, with arrival in Vienna at 9:15 am.

In the afternoon, the plane will take off from Vienna at 13:10, and the arrival in Zagreb is planned for 14:05. The return to Vienna is at 15:15, with arrival in the Austrian capital at 16:10. In addition to direct (p2p) demand, passengers from Vienna are being offered a large number of destinations in Europe that Austrian will restart from the end of this month.

The smaller capacity aircraft, the DashQ400 and Embraer 190, are planned for the flights.

The company is currently working on a new flight schedule for July, but Austrian is expected to continue flying once a day on the Vienna-Zagreb-Vienna route in the first half of July.

Flights to Croatia: Austrian Airlines Adds Daily Zadar Route, Lauda to Dubrovnik

September 27, 2019 - The latest news from around Croatia’s airports for new flights to Croatia with updates from Zadar, Dubrovnik, and Zagreb.

Avio Radar reports that Austrian national carrier Austrian Airlines, a member of the Star Alliance global airline association, is launching a new route to Croatia in the summer of 2020. Namely, Austrian Airlines will connect Vienna and Zadar every day next year. Zadar will be the fourth Austrian Airlines' destination in Croatia, after the long-standing connections to Zagreb, Dubrovnik, and Split.

This route will begin operating seven flights a week from the first day of the 2020 summer flights schedule, or March 29, 2020. An Airbus A320 aircraft will serve this line.

But that’s not the only news coming from Austria.

Furthermore, Ex-Yu Aviation reports that Austrian low-cost airline Lauda will launch seasonal flights between Vienna and Dubrovnik from March 29 next year, operating two times a week, on Thursdays and Sundays. This new route will compete directly against Austrian Airlines and Level.

The Lauda line will leave Vienna on Thursdays at 14:55, arriving in Dubrovnik at 16:20, while it will leave on Sunday at 6:00, arriving in Dubrovnik at 7:25.

Ryanair's B737-800 equipment will operate on this service, even though the flights are marketed by Lauda.

To end this week of travel, Avio Radar reports that Franjo Tudjman Airport was recognized in the category of airports with less than 4 million passengers at the 25th World Routes Aviation Forum held in Adelaide, Australia.

The annual World Routes Awards were held at the Adelaide Convention Center on September 23, 2019. The awards are highly regarded in the aviation industry for recognizing marketing services that support new and existing airport services, as well as excellence and innovation in route development.

Zagreb Airport recorded 3.34 million passengers last year, which is an increase of 8%, following a 12% increase in 2017. After introducing Emirates in 2017, three new carriers have been launched from Zagreb in 2018, of which two operate long-haul flights and bring a number of new destinations. Firstly, in the spring, Aegean Airlines introduced direct flights to Athens, while Croatia Airlines opened two new destinations - Dublin and Mostar. In June, Air Canada Rouge opened its second direct line between Zagreb and Toronto, and in September 2018, the first flights to the Far East began thanks to Korean Air, connecting Zagreb and Seoul throughout the year.
