May 20, 2023 - The Croatian Bureau of Statistics published its latest data on the average salaries in Croatia. The report compared the average salaries in March to those in February, as well as this year's wages to last year's.

As Index writes, the average monthly paid net salary per employee in legal entities in Croatia amounted to 1,130 euros in March, which is nominally higher by 11.9 percent and 1.1 percent higher in real terms, according to the data from the Croatian Bureau of Statistics.

According to the report published on Friday, the average salary of 1,130 euros is nominally higher by 2.2 percent and in real terms by 1.3 percent than in February.

The highest average monthly payment of net wages was paid in the field of information service activities, in the amount of 2,327 euros, while the lowest average monthly payment of net wages was paid in the area of protective and investigative activities, in the amount of 738 euros. According to the data from the Croatian Bureau of Statistics, the median net salary for March was 946 euros, which means that half of Croatian employees had less and half more than that amount.

The largest number of paid hours was in the water transport industry

The average monthly gross salary per employee in legal entities for March was 1,556 euros, which is nominally higher by 2.2 percent and real by 1.3 percent compared to February. On an annual level, the average gross salary was nominally higher by 13.5 percent, and in real terms by 2.5 percent. In March, there were an average of 182 paid hours, which is a 15.2 percent increase compared to February.

The highest number of paid hours was in the water transport sector (191), and the lowest number of paid hours was in the social welfare sector without accommodation (160). The average monthly paid net hourly wage for March was 6.08 euros, which is 10.7 percent lower than in February, and 11.8 percent more than in March last year.

ZAGREB, 20 May 2022 - The average net monthly salary paid in Croatia for March was HRK 7,607 (€1,014), which is an increase of 6.6 percent in nominal terms and a decrease of 0.7 percent in real terms compared with March 2021, the Croatian Bureau of Statistics said on Friday.

Compared with February 2022, the average pay increased by 2.1% in nominal terms and remained unchanged in real terms.

The median pay for March 2022 was HRK 6,352 (€847), meaning that half of the employees earned more than this amount and half earned less.

The highest average net monthly salary was paid out in the information and communication sector (HRK 15,360; €2,048) and the lowest in the security and investigation sector (HRK 4,867; €649).

ZAGREB, 20 April 2022 - The average net monthly wage for February 2022 amounted to HRK 7,452, up by 5.9% on the year in nominal terms, but down by 0.4% in real terms, the Croatian Bureau of Statistics said on Wednesday.

Month on month, the average net wage was up by 1% in nominal terms and by 0.1% in real terms.

The median net wage for February was HRK 6,151.

The highest average net wage was paid in the manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations, amounting to HRK 16,787, while the lowest was in security and investigation activities at HRK 4,758.

The average gross wage was HRK 10,109, up by 6.8% in nominal terms and by 0.5% in real terms from February 2021 and up by 1.3% in nominal terms and by 0.4% in real terms from January 2022.

ZAGREB, 23 March 2022 - The Coalition for Decent Pay warned on Wednesday that the average pay in Croatia amounted to only two thirds of decent pay, asking the government to adopt policies that would gradually guarantee wages for all workers.

"Decent pay means that we can afford quality living standards, including the payment of regular as well as extraordinary costs and saving," said Coalition member Sandra Kasunić of the Centre for Peace Studies.

According to a calculation by the Coalition for Decent Pay, before the latest price increases, decent pay in Croatia amounted to HRK 10,428, but according to data for 2021, the average wage last year equaled to only two-thirds of that amount.

"The amounts in question show that decent pay for all in Croatia is, for the time being, a distant future," said Kasunić, recalling that decent pay was a constitutional category and basic human right recognised by Croatia.

"Even though the government has shown social sensitivity with its set of measures designed to cushion the impact of rising prices on living standards, the problem is that the package does not cover all workers", she said.

"We call on the government to expand its measures to also include workers who do not earn decent pay, and we demand that it adopt policies that will gradually guarantee the implementation of all social and economic rights," she said.

Mario Iveković of the New Trade Union said that they did not expect minimum pay to be raised to the level of decent pay in two years, but asked the government to make decent pay the ultimate goal of the minimum pay, as stated in the Constitution.

Iveković said the Coalition for Decent Pay would join a European civic initiative, which in two months will start collecting signatures to seek a "strong" social responsiblity directive from the European Commission (EC).

The EC has put forward the first draft of a directive which aims to commit corporations with more than 500 workers and annual revenue of more than €150 million to respect workers' rights.

Even though that limit for some industries, such as the textile industry, is 250 workers and a revenue of €40 million, civic initiatives want it to be lowered so that the directive could apply also to small and medium companies.

"We will insist on the payment of decent pay which is mentioned in the directive," said Iveković.

ZAGREB, 24 Aug, 2021 - The average net pay in legal entities in Zagreb in May 2021 amounted to HRK 8,249 (€1,099), which is a nominal increase of 7.3% compared to May 2020, show data from the Zagreb City Department for Strategic Planning and Development.

Compared with the national average, which amounted to HRK 7,104, the average net monthly pay in Zagreb was HRK 1,145 higher.

The highest average net wage in legal entities was paid in crude petroleum and natural gas extraction, amounting to HRK 13,408.

The lowest wage was paid in clothing manufacturing, in the amount of HRK 4,484.

The average gross monthly pay in legal entities in Zagreb was HRK 11,440, up 5.4% from May 2020.

ZAGREB, 20 Aug, 2021 - For this June, the average monthly net earnings per person in paid employment in legal entities in Croatia amounted to HRK 7,175, nominally higher by 5.9% and really by 3.8% as compared to the same month last year, according to the latest data provided by the national statistical office (DZS).

As compared to May 2021, both the nominal and the increase was one percent.

The highest average monthly net pay per person in paid employment in legal entities for June 2021 were earned in Manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (HRK 15,823), while the lowest were earned in Manufacture of wearing apparel (HRK 4,409).

Median net take-home pay for June 2021 amounted to HRK 6,023, and the median gross salary was HRK 7,813.

ZAGREB, 15 July 2021 -  The average net pay of employees in legal entities in the city of Zagreb in April 2021 totaled HRK 8,266, which is an increase of 7.7% in the nominal terms year-on-year, show data provided by Zagreb's City Office for the Strategic Planning and the Development.

Compared with Croatia's average monthly net salary in April, which was HRK 7,082, the average net salary in Zagreb was higher by HRK 1,184.

The highest average monthly net pay in legal entities in Zagreb in April, which was HRK 15,313, was paid in the crude oil and gas extraction industry.

The lowest average salary for April in the capital city was paid in the clothes-making sector, HRK 4,510.

The average monthly gross salary in Zagreb in April 2021 was HRK 11,477, which is an increase of 5.4% on the year.

ZAGREB, 18 June 2021- Croatia's average net pay in April was HRK 7,082, which is an increase of 6.9% on the year in nominal terms and of 4.7% in real terms, according to data released by the national statistical office (DZS) on Friday.

Compared with March 2021, the average net wage was lower by 0.8% in nominal terms and by 1.5% in real terms.

The highest average monthly net salary per person employed in legal entities for April 2021 was paid in Extraction of crude petroleum and natural gas, amounting to HRK 11,652, and the lowest was paid in Manufacture of wearing apparel, amounting to HRK 4,361.

The average monthly gross salary in April 2021 was HRK 9,529, which is a decrease of 0.7% in nominal terms and of 1.4% in real terms compared to March. Compared to April 2020, the average gross pay was higher by 5.2% in nominal terms and by 3% in real terms.

ZAGREB, 11 June 2021 - The average net pay of employees in legal entities in the city of Zagreb in March 2021 totalled HRK 8,352, which is an increase of 7.5% in the nominal terms year-on-year, show data from the provided by Zagreb's City Office for the Strategic Planning and the Development on Friday.

Compared with Croatia's average monthly net salary in March, which was HRK 7,138, the average net salary in Zagreb was higher by HRK 1,214.

The highest average monthly net pay in legal entities in Zagreb in March, which was HRK 14,670, was paid in telecommunications services.

The average monthly gross salary in Zagreb in March 2021 was HRK 11,615, which is an increase of 5% on the year.

April 23, 2021 - Data analyzed by the Croatian Bureau of Statistics saw Croatian Employment in March 2021 rise compared to February but is overall lower than last year.

Employment in Croatia is overall down for 1.5% - concludes an article in Slobodna Dalmacija. This is the result of a statistical analysis conducted for this year's March compared to March 2020. The biggest fall in employment is evident in the hotel industry and hospitality. Last March, 410 people were employed in the sector, adding to the total number of 61,913, but that number is smaller for 5,087 people compared to last year when the number of employed in hotel tourism and hospitality counted 67,000.

„Compared to February, the total number of employed (in March) is up by 0.8% but compared to the same month last year; the numbers are down by 1.5%“, Slobodna Dalmacija quoted the explanation of Croatian Bureau of Statistics.

The process manufacturing industry also counts losses. Despite 2,129 newly employed people who boosted 225,287 workers in the sector, that number is down by 2000 workers less as last year the count was 227,287.  

Merchants count a rise of 803 new workers, 201,117 in total. But, this time last year the total number was 205,167, so this year's there are 4,050 people less in the sector.

On the other hand, several sectors can celebrate victory over statistics from 2020.

The construction sector hired 1,060 new workers. 100,234 people in total this year gives a 5924 boost compared to last year's 195,193 employed people.

Education has 1,094 new workers this month, 120,246 in total. This time last year's there were 117,891 people in total, which suggest 2,355 people increase.

Public service, social security, and defense sectors increase by 648 people to a total of 111,785. In conclusion, 1,325 more people are welcomed to the sector, compared to 2020 when there was 110460 in the mentioned sectors.  

Expectedly, health and social care sectors in March counted 102,636 employed, which is a 1,392 increase compared to last year's 101,244 employed people.

In absolute numbers, the mentioned sectors had the biggest influence on the total rise of employment in Croatia last month, which jumped to 11,302 people, 1,518,034 in total.

 The Bureau added that when counting all minuses and pluses, last year's numbers are better, but the progress is happening in this year nonetheless.
