Continuing our look at the indigenous grapes of Croatia, a visit to the island of Hvar to meet a grape which translates as 'a gift from God'.

Dalmatia has some outstanding wines, many of which are made from indigenous grape varieties, and Split's Paradox Wine and Cheese Bar has done a magnificent job promoting Croatian wines since it opened last year. 

One of the most interesting wines is from the island of Hvar, and Bogdanusa - which literally translates as 'a gift from God' - is a lighr easy drinking white from the island of sun. It is one of a few grape varieties which only grow on Hvar, nowhere else in the world. 

Paradox is hosting a 'Month of Bogdanusa' until July 15, and there will be a quality field of Hvar wine producers on show - Caric, Tomic, Marijan, Plenkovic, PZ Svirce and Dubokovic. They are all pretty good, but if you are looking for one with the latest international recognition, check out the Bogdanusa from Ivo Caric, which won silver at the recent BIWC competition in Sofia. 

Hvar will also be hosting some Bogdanusa events throughout the month, and one event to check out if you are in the area is Bogdanusa Night in Svirce on June 22, which will include a game of the very rare zoga falo 'Dalmatian baseball' - more on that and last year's event in the video below.
