New Car Sales in Croatia in Jan-March 2022 Down 7.2%
ZAGREB, 5 April 2022 - A total of 9,763 new passenger cars were sold in Croatia in the first three months of 2022, down by 7.2% from the same period in 2021 when 10,519 cars had been sold, according to data from the Promocija Plus market research agency.
The best-selling car brand was Škoda, with 1,068 cars sold and a 10.9% share in total sales. It was followed by Volkswagen (918 cars, 9.4% share), Kia (838 cars, 8.5% share), Toyota (642 cars, 6.6% share), and Hyundai (635 cars, 6.6%).
In March alone, 3,882 new vehicles were sold, a decrease of 6.8% compared with March 2021. Last month, the most popular car model was the Hyundai Tucson, with 125 units sold. It was followed by the Opel Mokka (121), the Kia XCeed (113) and the Dacia Sandero (107).
More than half of the vehicles sold -- 4,987 or 51.1% -- were fuelled by petrol. The number of diesel cars continued to fall rapidly, with 1,920 units sold, or 19.7% of total sales, while the number of hybrid vehicles sold increased to 2,231, accounting for 22.9% of total sales. 375 of the cars sold were powered by natural gas (3.8%) and 250 were electric cars (2.6%).
EU Demand for New Cars Continues to Fall
ZAGREB, 20 March 2022 - Demand for new cars in the European Union (EU) dropped in February 2022 for the eighth consecutive month due to supply chain disruptions, with Croatia also recording a decline, the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) reported this week.
A total of 719,465 new cars were registered in the EU in February 2022, which is 6.7% fewer than in the same month in 2021 and the lowest number since 1993 when ACEA began collecting data.
Compared with January 2022, the number of new car registrations fell by 6.0%.
Among the leading markets, Italy and France reported double-digit declines, of 22.6% and 13.0% respectively, while Spain and Germany posted growth of 6.6% and 3.2% respectively.
In Croatia, 2,879 new cars were registered in February 2022, down by 15.8% year on year. Compared with January 2022, the number increased by 1.6%.
The data shows that 1.4 million new cars were registered in the EU in the first two months of 2022, a decline of 6.4% compared to the same period last year.
In the first two months of 2022, Italy and France saw the largest drops, of 21.1% and 15.7% respectively. On the other hand, demand picked up by 5.6% in Germany and by 4.2% in Spain.
In Croatia, 5,823 new cars were registered in January and February 2022, which is a decrease of 7.8% compared to the same period in 2021.

New Car Sales Up 1.9% in January Year-on-Year
7 February 2022 -This January, 2,971 new passenger vehicles were sold in Croatia, up 1.9% or 56 more vehicles than in January 2021 when 2,915 were sold, the Promocija Plus market research agency said on Monday.
Škoda sold the most passenger vehicles in January, selling 365 vehicles, which accounted for 12.3% of all sales.
Volkswagen ranked second with 347 new cars sold, a share of 11.7%, and Kia was third with 224 cars sold, a share of 7.5%.
The Škoda Octavia was the best selling model in January with 185 sold cars, followed by the Dacia Duster with 114 cars sold.
This year's first figures indicated that more buyers are opting for hybrid vehicles as against diesel fuel cars. In January 1,477 or 49.7% of the vehicles sold were petrol cars while only 659 or 22.2% were diesel cars and 584 people bought a hybrid car which is a solid share of 19.7%.
Car buyers purchased 142 natural gas-run cars (4.8%) while 109 or 3.7% of new car owners opted for an all-electric vehicle, Promocija Plus reported.
New Car Sales Up by 40%
ZAGREB, 6 Aug 2021 - In July 2021, 5,675 new passenger vehicles were sold in Croatia, up 10.6% on the year, while 31,778 new vehicles were sold in the first seven months of the year, an increase of 40.8%, the Promocija Plus market research agency said on Friday.
Volkswagen sold the largest number of new passenger vehicles in the first seven months of the year (4,589), accounting for 14.4% of all sales.
Škoda was second with 3,508 new cars sold, a share of 11%, and Opel was third with 2,693 cars sold, a share of 8.5%.
In July, Opel sold the most cars (679), followed by Volkswagen (258).
Petrol vehicles accounted for 54.8% of all cars sold in the first seven months of the year, followed by diesel vehicles (25.5%). Electric vehicles accounted for 1.5% of the cars sold in said period, gas vehicles for 3.8% and hybrids for 14.4%.

August Sees 24% Yearly Drop in New Car Sales
ZAGREB, September 7, 2020 - In August 2020, 2,599 new passenger cars were sold in Croatia, down 24% on the year, while 25,167 new vehicles have been sold this year so far, down 47% on 2019, the Promocija Plus market search agency said on Monday.
Volkswagen sold the most new vehicles in the first eight months of 2020 (3,919) and it holds 15.5% of the market. Skoda was second with 3,418 new vehicles sold and 13.5% of the market, while Renault came third with 2,350 sales and 9.3% of the market.
As for luxury cars, Audi sold 843 new vehicles in the first eight months of 2020, BMW sold 732, Mercedes 661, Porsche 100 and Tesla 21.
In the said period, petrol-fueled cars accounted for 56.8% of all sales, with 14,285 vehicles sold, followed by diesel cars with 8,921 sold, hybrids (1,474) , natural gas vehicles (330) and electric vehicles (157).
