Epidemiologist Iva Pem Novosel: Delta Strain in 3 Croatian Counties

June the 28th, 2021 - Croatian epidemiologist Iva Pem Novosel has stated that the Delta variant has been found in numerous places in the Republic of Croatia.

Vaccination and warmer temperatures (okay, boiling hot temperatures if we're being honest) might have swayed the infection rate for the better, with numbers falling and COVID hospitals returning to normality, but the fast-spreading Delta variant of the novel coronavirus has now been detected and confirmed in three Croatian counties.

As the vaccination rollout continues across the country, Europe and the rest of the world, the ongoing pandemic is still throwing spanners in the works for many. New variants which have the potential to be more resistant to the current vaccines we have on hand are represent a current threat, and as borders begin to slowly open up and anti-epidemic measures ease, it's difficult to say what the outcome could be in the eyes of some.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, Croatian epidemiologist Iva Pem Novosel from the Croatian Institute of Public Health, Deputy Director of the Dr. Andrija Stampar Institite, Sandra Sikic, chief Zadar epidemiologist Alan Medic and AKD sales director Adela Jelinek Biscan recently spoke on Croatian Radio.

Iva Pem Novosel said that the British coronavirus strain detected back in December 2020 is still responsible for the most infections detected across Croatia: last week, 207 samples were sequenced, of which 165 or about 80 percent were confirmed to be the Alpha or so-called British strain of the novel coronavirus, while 26 are the Delta variant.

Iva Pem Novosel said that the most cases of Delta strain were recorded in Dalmatia, more precisely in Sibenik-Knin County - with 19 positive cases seeing the strain responsible, then six in Medjimurje and one case in Zagreb.

Zadar epidemiologist Alan Medic said that the Delta strain is most likely present down in Zadar County as well, but it is yet to be confirmed.

No Invitation Needed for New Zagreb Vaccination Programme - Details

June the 28th, 2021 - The brand new Zagreb vaccination programme will finally require no sign up, registration or invitation which might risk getting lost somewhere in the process along the way - as has been the case for so many. Want the vaccine? Just turn up.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, at the Andrija Stampar School of Public Health in Zagreb, from Monday, June the 28th to Wednesday, June the 30th, 2021, people will be able to come and be vaccinated against COVID-19 without giving any special notice, the Croatian Institute of Public Health announced.

Citizens of Zagreb, but also people from other parts of Croatia, will be able to be vaccinated against COVID-19 next week without a special invitation or announcement as the new Zagreb vaccination programme gets going.

In addition to the three locations in Zagreb where vaccination will be carried out by the aforementioned Institute, people will be able to receive their first dose of the vaccine from Monday at Rockefellerova ulica 4, organised by the Croatian Institute of Public Health and the Faculty of Medicine, University of Zagreb, from 09:00 to 15:00.

People aged 65 and over and people with chronic diseases will be vaccinated first from 09:00 to 11:00, and then from 11:00 to 13:00 people aged 40 and over can come, from 13:00 to 15:00, those under 40 years of age can come and be vaccinated. The same schedule applies to Tuesday, June the 29th, 2021, while the same Zagreb vaccination programme is scheduled for Wednesday before and after noon.

Turning up to be vaccinated doesn't require any announcements, but the number of people who can be vaccinated in one term is limited to 800 to a maximum of one thousand. The vaccination organiser will distribute vaccination coupons to people that day according to their time of arrival, depending on the level of interest.

''We want to open to citizens as many opportunities up as possible for people to come and get vaccinated against COVID-19 in order to protect ourselves from the infection with the highest possible vaccination rate, but also to prevent its further spread,'' stated doc.dr.sc. Krunoslav Capak, the director of the Croatian Institute of Public Health.

It is necessary to have an identity card and a health insurance card with you upon arrival, because only persons who have HZZO insurance are currently being vaccinated in this way. People are also being asked to wear a mask and to dress lightly, bring water and suitable sun protection with them. People should adjust their arrival to the stated schedule in order to wait less and be vaccinated as soon as possible.

''I believe that we will be able to vaccinate all those citizens who want the vaccine in the planned time, so we'd like to ask them for cooperation and patience,'' Capal said.

Vaccination with the first dose will be done solely with Pfizer.

COVID-19 Outbreak in Zadar County: New Low-Risk Area for Travelers Returning to Germany

June 27, 2021 - Due to a COVID-19 outbreak in Zadar County, it is now considered a low-risk area for travelers returning to Germany.

As of today, Zadar County is a low-risk area for travelers returning to Germany, reports HRT.

This means that those who leave that county for Germany must first register digitally, have a negative test when entering the country, or self-isolate until a negative test is presented. This does not apply to those who have been vaccinated.

Yesterday, out of 86 new COVID-19 cases, 42 were recorded in Zadar County. At the COVID wards at the Zadar General Hospital, 10 patients were hospitalized, and there are currently 207 active cases in the county.

The head of the National Civil Protection Headquarters Davor Božinović and the Chief of the Zadar Civil Protection Headquarters, Ante Babić, hope that the increasing number of newly infected will not affect the success of the tourist season.

"It is certainly not good because nowadays, given that this is a pandemic that has affected the whole world, given that this is a pandemic that has affected the whole world, and given that those countries from which tourists come, their citizens listen to the recommendations of their countries and to see where they should come to eventually rest and be healthy. So it’s not good, but I repeat again, I don’t think it should ultimately jeopardize the season. If this had to happen already, then it is better today, in June, than possibly in a month or so. We hope that the numbers will start to drop as soon as possible, but the biggest responsibility is on all of us," Babić said.

13 new cases in Zadar County

Today there are already fewer infections in Zadar County. The Civil Protection Headquarters announced that there are e13 new positive cases in the last 24 hours.

380 samples were tested and 611 residents were monitored.

Austrian DocLX Company to Ensure Safety in Istria for Graduates

June the 25th, 2021 - The Austrian DocLX company is going all out to make sure a group of Austrian graduates can celebrate the end of their studies in Istria without potentially endangering the local community's health and epidemiological picture.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, the Austrian DocLX company, which is the organiser of travel and other similar events, will apply an innovative security concept to prevent the spread of the coronavirus so that Austrian graduates can celebrate the end of their school year right here in Croatia safely, the company said in a statement.

The concept of the ''safety bubble'' which is successfully used in competitive sports, will provide the group of Austrian graduates with a safe environment while also protecting the local community from the spread of the novel virus which has dominated the world since the very beginning of 2020.

Strict safety protocols were developed by the Austrian DocLK company together with numerous renowned experts and advisers of the Austrian Federal Government, including Meduni-Wien, Professor Hans-Peter Hutter, as well as respected epidemiologist Professor Michael Kandy.

The complete concept of safety and prevention during the ongoing pandemic is being implemented on the Lanterna peninsula in Istria on 630,000 square metres thanks to the Austrian DocLX company's safety concept. Their concept is otherwise based on extensive testing and the creation of the aforementioned ''safety bubble''. Each participant will be tested using a PCR test two days before their departure, then immediately before their departure or before boarding the bus itself.

Every other day during the event, all of the high school graduates and employees will continue to be tested using the mandatory PCR test, considered to be the gold standard in detecting the presence of SARS-CoV-2 in the nose and throat. Approximately 630,000 square metres of leased land on the peninsula has only one access road leading to it that is completely closed off to unauthorised persons.

Preventive measures have been developed and implemented in close coordination with the Austrian and Croatian health authorities and have been formally approved for the group of graduates from Austria.

New Novalja and Zrće Beach COVID-19 Testing Points for Tourists Announced!

June 20, 2021 - Novalja and Zrće Beach COVID-19 testing points have been announced to facilitate travel for tourists in the area!

Tourist season preparations are in full swing in one of the most visited tourist destinations in Croatia. To ensure its guests a more pleasant stay and a safer return home, the City of Novalja, in cooperation with the Novalja Tourist Board, Novalja Health Center, and Medico Special Hospital from Rijeka, provided 2 additional COVID-19 testing points for tourists, reports HRTurizam.

In addition to the existing one at the Novalja Health Center, and the new location in Slatinska Street (parking location), a testing point on Zrće will start working next week.

"Certainly, the demand for rapid and PCR tests in the coming days and weeks will grow, and by equipping two additional points and providing testing services for COVID-19, we create one of the most important prerequisites for a successful season, but also health safety," said Marina Sciran Rizner, director of the Novalja Tourist Board.

"This is the second season done in aggravating circumstances and we care that tourism and the economy in our area achieve better results. We are working to enable people to come, all the prescribed measures will be respected, we will be one step ahead of COVID-19, we will follow the good examples from Istria and we will break the rumor about Zrće. This summer, Zrće will not be a bad example and an infection point, nor a threat to the tourism of the island, let alone Croatia," said Ivan Dabo, the mayor of Novalja for Večernji list.

The pandemic has significantly accelerated digital transformation, while it has not bypassed tourism. Everyday changes in the constraints of international travel require quick and efficient adaptation and flexibility to the needs of the tourism market, and quick and simple solutions such as testing applications, significantly relieve the already overloaded health system.
