ZAGREB, 23 Feb 2022 - A total of 3,774 new coronavirus cases and 37 COVID-related deaths have been recorded in Croatia in the last 24 hours, the national coronavirus response team reported on Wednesday.

The number of active cases currently stands at 21,446. Among them are 1,555 infected people being treated in hospitals, including 104 on ventilators, while 11,669 persons are self-isolating.

Since 25 February 2020, when the first case was confirmed in Croatia, 1,047,108 people have been registered as having been infected with the new SARS-CoV-2 virus. Of those infected, 14,942 have died and 1,010,720 have recovered, including 1,827 in the last 24 hours.

A total of 4,488,268 people have been tested to date, including 10,185 in the last 24 hours.

By Tuesday, 5,185,303 COVID-19 vaccine doses had been administered, with 56.81% of the total population, or 67.57% of adults, having been vaccinated. A total of 2,305,281 people have received at least one dose and 2,226,540 of them have been fully vaccinated, representing 65.41% of the adult population.

ZAGREB, 20 Feb 2022 - In the last 24 hours, there have been 2,055 new cases of those infected with SARS-CoV-2 in Croatia, and another 42 COVID patients have died, the country's COVID-19 crisis management team reported on Sunday.

Croatia currently has 24,954 active cases of the infection, and of them 1,720 are receiving hospital treatment, including 125 placed on ventilators.

Roughly 4.47 million tests for coronavirus have been conducted in the country since the outbreak of the pandemic, detecting 1,041,212 cases of the infection. So far, 1,001,443 patients have recovered, including 4,491 recoveries in the last 24 hours.

To date, 65.37% of adult Croatians have fully been vaccinated against this disease.

ZAGREB, 13 Feb 2022 - In the last 24 hours 2,730 coronavirus cases, out of 7,707 tests, and 49 related deaths have been registered in Croatia, the national COVID-19 crisis management team said on Sunday.

There are 37,089 active cases, including 2,115 hospitalised patients, of whom 158 are hooked up to ventilators, while 19,497 persons are self-isolating.

To date 56.72% of the total population, or 67.48% of adults have been vaccinated, with 65.21% of adults fully vaccinated.

Since 25 February 2020, when the first case of COVID-19 was reported in Croatia, 1,017,915 people have contracted the disease, while 14,473 have died.

ZAGREB, 10 Feb 2022 - Health Minister Vili Beroš said on Thursday new coronavirus cases were on a downward curve but that due to the low vaccination rate, easing protocols and changing the role of COVID certificates was not under consideration yet.

We must be aware of the fact that there is still a large number of unvaccinated citizens who can become seriously ill, which is why Croatia cannot follow the examples of Denmark, Sweden or Great Britain, where sufficient vaccination rates allow for easing the restrictions, he said at a cabinet session.

Sharpest fall in new infections in the fifth wave

Beroš said that today Croatia had nearly 32% fewer daily new cases week on week and that this was the sharpest fall in the fifth wave of the epidemic.

In the last 24 hours, 45.81% of PCR tests and 10.69% of rapid antigen tests have come back positive.

The highest numbers of new cases have been recorded in Bjelovar-Bilogora, Šibenik-Knin and Zadar counties.

There are 57 fewer hospitalised COVID patients than yesterday and 13 fewer on ventilators.

There has been a mild fall in hospitalisations in the past few days, including fewer patients in intensive care units and on ventilators, the minister said.

To date 2,215,898 persons have been vaccinated, including 829,638 with a booster shot or 21.33% of the population.

COVID certificates continue to reduce the risk of infection spreading in hospitals, care homes and some work environments, Beroš said.

Despite sufficient vaccines and vaccination points, interest in vaccination is increasingly low, although Croatian Institute of Public Health data show that those who received a booster shot and later have been infected accounted for a mere 0.4% of  the total population.

Beroš said the ministry continued to monitor the provision of all emergency medical services and that special protocols existed for oncology patients to schedule checkups.

He said the expected rise in the number of oncology patients would not bypass Croatia and that the necessary steps were being taken to deal with the problem.

"The availability of health services for vulnerable groups is our priority. Priority waiting lists are being adjusted to additionally expand the possibility of urgent diagnostics for oncology patients," he added.

Coexisting with a virus which could stay long in the community

The head of the national COVID-19 crisis management team, Interior Minister Davor Božinović, said one could say that infection with the Omicron variant, which caused a surge in new cases and threatened to overload the health system, was decreasing.

"If such trends continue, while specially following the situation in the health system, the crisis management team will closely analyse a possible pace of easing the restrictions and creating the prerequisites for coexisting with a virus which could stay long in the community."

It will be very important to work on the education of citizens and define recommendations for the effective protection of every individual, with emphasis on greater caution for at-risk groups, Božinović added.

ZAGREB, 6 Feb 2022 - Croatia has recorded 6,001 new coronavirus cases and 59 deaths in the last 24 hours.

The national coronavirus response team said on Sunday that 4,780 new infections with the SARS-CoV-2 virus had been detected by PCR tests, while media reported that another 1,221 had been identified by rapid antigen tests.

Currently, 2,140 COVID patients are being treated in hospitals, 178 are on ventilators, while 25,006 people are self-isolating.

Since 25 February 2020, when the first case was confirmed in Croatia, 983,780 people have been registered as having been infected with the novel coronavirus. Of this number, 14,137 have died and 917,608 have recovered, including 8,706 in the last 24 hours.

A total of 4,328,022 people have been tested to date, including 10,787 in the last 24 hours.

To date, 5,132,763 vaccine doses have been administered, making up 56.64% of the total population, or 67.39% of the adult population, who have been vaccinated.

A total of 2,298,364 people have received at least one dose while 2,212,347 of them have been fully vaccinated, making up 65.02% of the adult population.

ZAGREB, 31 January, 2022 - Five samples tested in Croatia have turned out to be positive for the BA.2 subvariant of the Omicron coronavirus variant, the Croatian Institute of Public Health confirmed on Monday.

This subvariant has been confirmed in 40 countries, including neighbouring Slovenia.

British scientists have been monitoring it after it was detected in more than 400 cases in the United Kingdom in the first ten days of January.

International data suggests that the BA.2 subvariant might be spreading faster that the Omicron variant, while no differences in severity have been observed.

"Very early observations from India and Denmark suggest there is no dramatic difference in severity compared to BA.1. This data should become more solid (one way or another) in the coming weeks," Tom Peacock, a virologist at Imperial College London, said on his Twitter account earlier this month.

He said that the new subvariant was not expected to diminish the effectiveness of the existing COVID-19 vaccines.

ZAGREB, 18 Dec, 2021 - Croatia has registered 3,487 new coronavirus cases and 51 COVID-related deaths in the last 24 hours, the national coronavirus response team reported on Saturday.

Currently, there are 23,935 active cases in the country. Among them are 2,154 infected persons receiving hospital treatment and 283 of them are on ventilators.

A total of 23,714 people are self-isolating.

Since 25 February 2020, when the first infection with the SARS CoV-2 virus was confirmed in the country, 673,427 people have been registered as having contracted the new virus, of whom 11,930 have died while 637,562 have recovered, including 3,432 in the last 24 hours.

A total of 3,638,581 persons have been tested to date, including 10,836 in the last 24 hours.

As of Friday, 4,519,310 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered, with 55.21 per cent of the total population, or 65.81 per cent of the adult population, having been vaccinated. A total of 2,240,403 people have received at least one dose and 2,082,035 of them have been fully vaccinated, which is 61.34 per cent of the adult population.

ZAGREB, 17 Dec 2021 - Croatia has registered 3,778 new coronavirus cases and 54 COVID-related deaths in the last 24 hours, the national coronavirus response team reported on Friday.

Currently, there are 23,931 active cases in the country. Among them are 2,188 infected persons receiving hospital treatment and 288 of them are on ventilators. A total of 23,619 people are self-isolating.

Since 25 February 2020, when the first infection with the SARS CoV-2 virus was confirmed in the country, 669,940 people have been registered as having contracted the new virus, of whom 11,879 have died and 634,130 have recovered, including 3,875 in the last 24 hours.

A total of 3,627,745 persons have been tested to date, including 11,870 in the last 24 hours.

As of Thursday, 4,490,656 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered, with 55.15 per cent of the total population, or 65.74 per cent of the adult population, having been vaccinated. A total of 2,237,974 people have received at least one dose and 2,073,410 of them have been fully vaccinated, which is 61.1 per cent of the adult population.

ZAGREB, 10 Dec 2021 - Croatia has registered 3,797 new coronavirus cases and 71 COVID-related deaths in the last 24 hours, the national coronavirus response team reported on Friday.

The number of active cases stands at 26,824 and among them 2,329 infected persons are receiving hospital treatment, including 326 who are on ventilators.

A total of 23,617 people are self-isolating.

Since 25 February 2020, when the first case was confirmed in Croatia, 648,003 people have been registered as having contracted the SARS-CoV-2 virus, of whom 11,516 have died.

A total of 609,663 people have recovered, including 4,585 in the last 24 hours.

To date, 3,559,322 people have tested for the new virus, of whom 11,178 in the last 24 hours.

As of Thursday, 4,338,159 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered, with 54.74 per cent of the total population, or 65.28 per cent of the adult population, having been vaccinated. A total of 2,221,412 people have received at least one dose and 2,019,336 of them have been fully vaccinated, which is 59.56 per cent of the adult population.

ZAGREB, 4 Dec, 2021 - In the last 24 hours, 11,717 coronavirus tests have been conducted in Croatia and of them, 38% (4,465) have returned positive, whereas another 54 COVID patients have died, bringing the COVID-related death toll to 11,150, the national COVID-19 crisis management team reported on Saturday.

Currently, there are 31,348 active cases, and of them 2,382 are receiving hospital treatment, including 317 patients on ventilators.

Since the first registered case of infection with the novel virus in Croatia on 25 February 2020, 628,241 persons have caught the virus and 585,743 of them have recovered from the infection, including 4,712 in the last 24 hours.

During the vaccine rollout, over 4.2 million doses against coronavirus have been administered. So far, 54.29 % of the total population have got at least a jab, or nearly 65% of adults.

Furthermore, 58.13% of adults have been fully vaccinated.
