ZAGREB, 7 Sept, 2021 - In the past 24 hours, 704 coronavirus cases and 10 deaths have been registered in Croatia, the national COVID-19 crisis management team said on Tuesday.

There are currently 4,199 active cases, including 518 patients who are hospitalised, of whom 57 are on ventilators.

Currently 8,862 persons are self-isolating.

Croatia has registered 378,726 coronavirus cases to date, including 8,385 deaths and 366,142 recoveries, of which 527 in the past 24 hours.

To date, 2,607,201 persons have been tested for the virus, including 10,077 in the past 24 hours.

To date, 42.98% of the total population has been vaccinated against COVID-19, including 51.61% of adults, 48.40% of whom have completed vaccination.

ZAGREB, 6 Sept 2021 - In the past 24 hours, 184 coronavirus cases and five deaths have been registered in Croatia, the national COVID-19 crisis management team said on Monday.

Currently, 8,661 persons are self-isolating.

To date, 2,597,124 persons have been tested for the virus, including 3,942 in the past 24 hours.

Croatia has registered 378,022 coronavirus cases to date, including 8,375 deaths and 365,615 recoveries, of which 578 in the past 24 hours.

To date, 42.91% of the total population has been vaccinated against COVID-19, including 51.53% of adults, 48.31% of whom have completed vaccination.

ZAGREB, 5 Sept, 2021 - In the last 24 hours, Croatia has conducted 9,174 coronavirus tests, and 5.8%, or 539 of them, have turned out to be positive, and eight COVID-19 patients have died, bringing the COVID-related death toll to 8,370, the national coronavirus crisis management team said on Sunday.

Currently, there are 4,431 active cases of the infection in the country, and 485 of them are receiving hospital treatment, including 52 patients who are on ventilators.

Since 25 February 2020, when Croatia reported its first registered COVID-19 case, more than 2.59 million tests have been conducted, showing that 377,838 people have caught the virus. Of them, 365,037 have recovered to date, including 552 recoveries in the last 24 hours.

Since the start of its vaccine rollout, Croatia has administered nearly 3.3 million doses of vaccines, and 42.9% of the total population, or 51.51% of adult citizens, have been vaccinated.

According to the statement, 1,555,960 people have been double vaccinated plus 74,299 who have received a single-dose of the Janssen vaccine, and that makes up 48.30% of the adult population.

ZAGREB, 4 Sept, 2021 - In the last 24 hours, Croatia has conducted 10,271coronavirus tests, and 8.5%, or 882 of them, have turned out to be positive, and seven COVID-19 patients have died, bringing the COVID-related death toll to 8,362, the national coronavirus crisis management team said on Saturday.

Currently, there are 4,452 active cases of the infection in the country, and of them, 469 are receiving hospital treatment, including 59 patients on ventilators.

Since 25 February 2020, when Croatia reported its first registered COVID-19 case, more than 2.58 million tests have been conducted, showing that 377,299 people have caught the virus. Of them, 364,485 have recovered to date, including 579 recoveries in the last 24 hours.

Since the start of its vaccine rollout, Croatia has administered nearly 3.3 million vaccines, and 42.85% of the total population, or 51.45% of adult citizens, have been vaccinated.

To date, 48.25% of the adult population have fully been immunised.

ZAGREB, 3 Sept 2021 - The director of the Croatian Institute for Public Health, Krunoslav Capak, warned on Friday that the number of new coronavirus cases in Croatia is increasing and their share in those tested is 8.4%, so it is only a matter of time when a third dose of a vaccination will begin.

"We don't know the precise date, however we will start with a third dose of a vaccine soon. People who are threatened the most will be the first to receive the third dose, Capak told a press conference.

Immunity increases markedly after the third dose

Croatia has 31% more people infected this week than last, with the lowest incidence rate recorded in Istria and the highest in Split-Dalmatia County.

Eight European countries have already introduced the third dose of the vaccine while 13, including Croatia, are still mulling over the idea.

Capak spoke about the Israeli experience with the third dose, after two million people older than 60 had been vaccinated. An Israeli study shows that the risk of infection was 11 times less likely and that their immunity increased significantly, and there weren't any side-effects like those recorded after the first and second dose, said Capak.

An increasing number of hospitalised children

The director of the Dr. Fran Mihaljević Hospital for Infectious Diseases, Alemka Markotić, said that Pfizer had already submitted documents related to the effectiveness and harmlessness of the third dose to the European Medicines Agency.

Health Minister Vili Beroš sent a message to anti-vaxxers saying that their decision not to be vaccinated was legitimate, but that spreading misinformation was taking us a step backwards.

He warned that in this fourth wave of the epidemic 108 children have been hospitalised so far, which is a certain increase.

ZAGREB, 2 Sept 2021 - In the last 10 weeks, there have been 117 COVID-19 patients on ventilators, and 110 of them were not vaccinated against this infection, Health Minister Vili Beroš said on Thursday.

In the last 24 hours, 9,989 coronavirus tests have been performed and 8% or 798 have turned out to be positive; 11 COVID patients have died, bringing the COVID-19-related death toll to 8,349, the national coronavirus crisis management team stated on Thursday morning.

Currently, there are 3,943 active cases, and of them, 440 are receiving hospital treatment, including 53 who are on ventilators.

In the week from 23 to 30 August, 4,140 people tested positive for the virus, and 86.16% of them had not been vaccinated.

Hospitals are increasing their capacity for COVID patients in line with epidemiological developments, he said.

The minister informed the government that the average age of hospitalized patients in the fourth wave of the pandemic was lower than in the third wave. The share of children in hospitalized COVID patients has tripled, he noted.

More than 8 in 10 doctors, 6 in 10 nurses vaccinated

Since the start of its vaccine rollout, Croatia has administered nearly 3.3 million vaccines, and 42.64% of the population, or 51.22% of adult citizens, have been vaccinated.

Until 30 August, 83.17% of doctors and 60.84% of nurses and medical technicians got vaccinated.

Broken down by age cohort, the share of persons above 65 who have received at least one shot is 69.5% and 65.8% of them have fully been immunized.

Treatment of COVID-19 and sick leave have cost HRK 2.7 billion 

A day of hospital treatment of a COVID patient costs HRK 11,000 and the average duration of hospitalization is 20 days. Hospitalization and sick leave for COVID patients have cost the state HRK 2.7 billion so far, which is equivalent to half the value of Pelješac Bridge, Beroš said.

He warned that if the trend of unvaccinated people catching the virus continued, one could expect a further rise in hospitalizations and new mutations.

ZAGREB, 2 Sept 2021 - The eastern and central parts of Croatia turned red on the updated COVID transmission map produced by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) on Thursday.

The City of Zagreb, coastal counties, and the north of Croatia remain orange.

The red zones in Croatia are thus the counties with the seats in Karlovac, Sisak, Bjelovar, Slavonski Brod, Požaga, Virovitica, Osijek, and Vukovar.

The only "green" EU member-states on the updated map are Hungary, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Poland.

The ECDC publishes maps every Thursday in support of the EU Council Recommendation on a coordinated approach to the restriction of free movement in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which was adopted by EU Member States on 13 October 2020 and amended on 28 January 2021 and 14 June 2021. The maps are based on data reported by EU Member States to the European Surveillance System database by 23:59 every Tuesday.

ZAGREB, 1 Sept, 2021 - Croatia has registered 805 new cases of the coronavirus infection over the past 24 hours, as well as four COVID-19-related deaths, the national COVID-19 crisis management team said on Wednesday.

The number of active cases currently stands at 3,632, and there are 440 COVID patients in hospitals, including 59 on ventilators, which is six more than on Tuesday.

Since 25 February 2020, when the first case of the disease was recorded in Croatia, a total of 374,803 people have contracted the novel virus, of whom 8,338 have died and 362,833 have recovered, including 383 in the last 24 hours.

There are currently 7,423 people in self-isolation.

To date, 2,554,090 people have been tested, including 10,094 over the past 24 hours.

As at 31 August, 3,271,036 doses of vaccine have been administered, and 42.54% of the total population, or 51.10% of the adult population, have been inoculated.

A total of 1,726,531 persons have received at least one dose, while 1,614,792 of them have been fully vaccinated (1,544,505 persons received two doses plus 70,287 received the single-dose Jannsen vaccine), so 47.85% of the adult population have been been fully vaccinated.
