Croatia Reports Record High Daily Cases of COVID-19

ZAGREB, Aug 14, 2020 - In the last 24 hours there have been 208 new cases of the infection with coronavirus in Croatia, and the infection took two more lives, the national COVID-19 crisis management team reported on Friday.

The number of active cases rises to  961, the head of the Croatian Institute of Public Health (HZJZ), Krunoslav Capak told a news conference in Zagreb.

This is the second day in a row with record-high daily numbers of new cases. On Thursday, the team reported 180 new infections.

Currently, 106 COVID patients are receiving hospital treatment, and of the 10 are placed on ventilators.

The latest two fatalities were a patient born in 1960 and a patient born in 1934 with underlying health conditions.

Since 25 February when the country reported its first confirmed case of this communicable disease, 6,258 have tested positive, and of the 163 have died, while 5134 have recovered.

Currently, 3,158 people in Croatia are self-isolating.

Since the outbreak of the disease, 134,742 people have been tested, including 1,249 in the last 24 hours.

The average age of the newly-infected patients is 31 and they usually develop mild symptoms, Capak said.

Record High Number of 180 New Coronavirus Cases

ZAGREB, Aug 13, 2020 - In the last 24 hours 180 new cases of the coronavirus disease have been reported in Croatia, the number of active cases stands at 811 and one person has died, the national COVID-19 response team said on Thursday.

This is a record-high number of new cases in a single day since the outbreak of the epidemic.

Of the active cases, 115 are undergoing hospital treatment, including 10 who are on ventilators.

Since February 25, when the first case of the infection was detected in the country, 6,050 people have contracted the disease, 161 of them have died and 5,078 have recovered.

Currently, 2,752 people are in self-isolation. To date, 133,493 people have been tested for the virus, including 1,201 in the last 24 hours.

Croatia Reports 130 New COVID Cases

ZAGREB, Aug 12, 2020 - In the past 24 hours, there have been 130 new cases of the coronavirus infection in Croatia, and currently there are 686 active cases, the national COVID-19 crisis management team said on Wednesday.

There are now 117 COVID patients in hospitals, and eight of them are placed on ventilators. There have been no new deaths in the last 24 hours.

Since the first confirmed case of the infection on 25 February in Croatia, a total of 5,870 persons have been diagnosed with the coronavirus infection, and of them 160 have died, while 5,024 have recovered.

Currently, there are 2,279 persons in self-isolation. To date, 132,292 persons have been tested for, including 1,604 in the last 24 hours.

"There are currently no significant new hotspots. What is characteristic is that people are returning from their holidays, and a lot of young people have become infected. The average age of new coronavirus patients is 34, these are predominantly younger people who have mostly been to different gatherings and places where young people have fun," Croatian Public Health Institute head Krunoslav Capak said.

HZJZ Recommends Ban on Indoor Nightclubs

ZAGREB, Aug 12, 2020 - The Croatian Public Health Institute (HZJZ) on Tuesday amended its recommendations for nightclubs, suggesting that its owners organise their work in the open and prevent the stay of their guests indoors in order to prevent the spreading of the coronavirus.

The HZJZ said its latest recommendations for nightclubs were in line with the current situation regarding the coronavirus disease in Croatia.

Nightclubs that cannot organise their work in the open are allowed to continue operating as cafes.

The HZJZ has also banned dance floors, recommending that instead seating areas with tables and chairs be set up, with a distance of 1.5 metres between them.

The latest recommendations were made in light of the appearance of new coronavirus hot spots, notably in nightclubs along the coast.

45 New COVID Patients, 585 Active Cases in Croatia

ZAGREB, Aug 10, 2020 - In the last 24 hours, there have been 45 newly diagnosed coronavirus cases in Croatia, and currently, there are 585 active cases, the national COVID-19 crisis response team stated on Monday.

There are now 124 COVID patients in hospitals, including eight ones placed on ventilators. In the last 24 hours, one more patient, diagnosed with this disease, has died.

Since the first confirmed case of the infection on 25 February in Croatia, 5,649 persons have been diagnosed with COVID-19, and of the 158 have died, while 4,906 have recovered.

Currently, there are 2,057 people in self-isolation.

Since the outbreak of the infection, 129,379 tests have been performed for this disease, including 1,247 in the last 24 hours.

Croatia Reports 61 New Coronavirus Cases

ZAGREB, Aug 9, 2020 - In the past 24 hours there have been 61 new coronavirus cases in Croatia, bringing the total number of active cases to 586, the national coronavirus crisis response team said on Sunday.

Among the active cases are 121 hospitalised patients, including eight patients on ventilators. There have been no new deaths.

Since 25 February 2020, when Croatia reported its first case of the coronavirus infection, there have 5,604 cases of the infection, with 157 fatalities and 4,861 recoveries.

Currently, 2,008 people are in self-isolation. To date, a total of 128,132 people have been tested, including 727 in the past 24 hours, the response team said in a press release.

Croatia Reports 77 New Coronavirus Cases, Two Dead

ZAGREB, Aug 8, 2020 - Over the past 24 hours 77 new coronavirus cases have been registered in Croatia, bringing the number of active cases to 569, and two persons have died, the national civil protection authority said on Saturday.

Hospitalised are 120 patients, including eight on ventilators.

Since February 25, when the first case was registered in Croatia, 5,534 persons have been infected with the new virus, 157 of whom have died, while 4,817 have recovered.

Currently 1,962 persons are self-isolating. So far, 127,405 persons have been tested for coronavirus, including 995 in the last 24 hours, the authority said in a press release.

10 German Graduates Infected with Coronavirus During Excursion to Pag

ZAGREB, Aug 7, 2020 - The German T-online.de portal on Friday reported that 10 German graduate students who had been on Pag island for an excursion had returned infected with the coronavirus and are currently in self-isolation.

According to a spokesman for the Goppingen district, north of Stuttgart, ten school leavers developed symptoms with respiratory problems.

Fifteen school leavers and 50 other people who have been in contact with them are also in self-isolation.

The head of Goppingen's public health institute, Heinz Pohler, underscored that more and more people returning from the Balkans were being diagnosed with the coronavirus disease.

Earlier in the day Slovenia's health authorities reported that despite controlling local transfers of the virus, recently "imported cases" had been detected again.

"In the past week, of the 21 imported cases, a little more than half were from Croatia," Marta Grgic Vitek from Slovenia's national public health institute said, adding that most of these cases were detected among young people, noting that one of the epicentres was Zrce Beach on Pag island, a popular spot for clubbing with often large gatherings of young people.

Croatia Has 62 New Coronavirus Cases

ZAGREB, Aug 7, 2020 - There have been 62 new cases of the coronavirus infection in Croatia in the past 24 hours, which puts the number of active cases at 533, the national COVID-19 response team said on Friday.

Among the active cases, there are 122 patients who are hospitalised, including seven who are on ventilators. There have been no new fatalities.

Since February 25, when the first case of the disease in Croatia was reported, a total of 5,466 people have contracted the virus. Of that number, 155 have died and 4,758 have recovered.

A total of 2,052 people are currently in self-isolation. To date, 126,410 people have been tested, including 1,093 in the past 24 hours.

One More Person Dies, 28 New Cases of Coronavirus in Croatia

ZAGREB, Aug 6 (Hina) - In the past 24 hours there have been 28 new cases of the coronavirus detected in Croatia, bringing the total number of active cases to 561, while one more person has died, the national COVID response team said on Thursday.

There are currently 110 people in-hospital treatment, with seven being on ventilators.

Since the first case was recorded in Croatia on 25 February 2020, there has been a total of 5,404 people infected with the disease and 155 people have died, while 4,688 have recovered.

There are currently 2,171 people in self-isolation. 

To date a total of 125,317 tests have been conducted for the virus, 934 in the past 24 hours, a press release by the response team noted.
