ZAGREB, May 14, 2018 - The GONG election monitoring NGO said on Monday it disagreed with the latest referendum initiatives, telling Croatia's political elites to regulate election and referendum legislation.
ZAGREB, May 9, 2018 - The Croatian Bishops Conference (HGK) Permanent Council said on Wednesday the Church cared about the promotion and improvement of political decision-making and that believers should stand for and promote Christian values in a pluralist society, but that referendum activities were inappropriate on sacral premises.
ZAGREB, May 7, 2018 - The goal of "The People Decide" referendum is to change the current political system, to prevent political bargaining and corruption between political parties and to strengthen voters' decision making in Croatia, organisers of the signature collection for the referendum said on Monday.
The controversial provision has been excluded due to pressure from more liberal coalition partners.
ZAGREB, April 21, 2018 - "The Truth about the Istanbul Convention," initiative comprising several civil society organisations, has established an organising committee for voters to call for a referendum on repealing the Istanbul Convention and called on citizens to sign their petition between May 13 to 27 and help collect 400,000 signatures required for a referendum to be called.
This is the second conservative referendum initiative this spring.
ZAGREB, April 15, 2018 - The Croatian Party of Rights - Dr Ante Starčević (HSP AS) said in a statement on Saturday that it had not nor would it form a coalition with the DESNO party and that it would launch disciplinary proceedings against HSP AS vice-president Vlatka Vukelić who has announced such cooperation with DESNO leader Anto Đapić.

ZAGREB, April 6, 2018 - Right-wing politicians and NGOs close to the Catholic Church on Thursday said that an interview with the president of the Croatian Bishops Conference (HBK) Želimir Puljić on Croatian Catholic Radio did not bring any "great turnabout" in the Church's stance on the Istanbul Convention and that this was just media interpretation.
