Performance Warns about Migrants' Troubles

ZAGREB, October 2, 2018 - Several activists of the "Dobrodosli (Welcome!)" civil society group and activists of the RAND initiative held a performance outside Government House and Zagreb Cathedral on Tuesday, calling on authorities to put an end to "violence against refugees on Croatia's borders".

Online Anti-Corruption Tool Presented

ZAGREB, September 28, 2018 - Representatives of the GONG election monitoring NGO on Friday presented the Mosaic of Connections, an online tool for researching connections between politically prominent persons as well as their connections with other legal and physical persons via information from public authorities' registers and data bases. Civil Society Receives 67.5 Million Euro in 15 Years

ZAGREB, September 10, 2018 - The National Foundation for Civil Society Development has granted more than 500 million kuna to 5,202 various civil society associations over the past 15 years, through public calls for financing, the foundation's director Cvjetana Plavša-Matić said at a ceremony on Monday marking the foundation's 15th anniversary of existence.

Government Refuses NGO Monitoring of Referendum Signature Checking

ZAGREB, August 30, 2018 - Public Administration Minister Lovro Kuščević said on Thursday that representatives of civil initiatives would not be allowed to monitor the checking of signatures collected for referendum petitions but that a contract would be signed with a company to do it.

Women's Network Demands Implementation of Istanbul Convention

ZAGREB, May 23, 2018 - Members of the Women's Network of Croatia held a protest outside the government offices on Wednesday, demanding speedy and efficient implementation of the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence, known as the Istanbul Convention, and warning that since its ratification by the parliament three women have been killed.

NGOs Supporting Refugees Feel Police Pressure

ZAGREB, April 18, 2018 - The nongovernmental organisations "Are you Syrious" and the Centre for Peace Studies (CMS) and representatives of a law firm hired to protect refugees' rights said on Wednesday that the Ministry of the Interior and police were exerting pressure on them with the aim of diverting the public's attention from an investigation into the death of six-year-old Afghan migrant girl Madina Hosseini.

NGO Wants Convicted War Criminals to Be Stripped of Military Decorations

ZAGREB, April 15, 2018 - The Youth Initiative for Human Rights (YIHR) nongovernmental organisation has called on Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović to strip persons convicted for war crimes "committed during Croatia's aggression on Bosnia and Herzegovina" of their decorations and to apologise, together with Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, to the victims of the Ahimici atrocity on the 25th anniversary of that crime.
