Flights to Croatia: Air France Makes Changes to Zagreb and Dubrovnik Services

October 8, 2020 -  The latest news for flights to Croatia as Air France makes changes to Zagreb and Dubrovnik services.

Croatian Aviation reports that Air France has announced daily flights on the Zagreb - Paris route for October this year. Due to the impact of the pandemic, the company canceled certain departures on this line, a total of 7, from October 12 to 31. Certain flights on the route to Dubrovnik were also canceled.

We bring you the current flight schedule until the end of October.

Air France to Zagreb

Air France will operate four times a week (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday) during the week of October 12-18, while flights on Thursday, Friday, and Sunday have been canceled.

In the week of October 19-25, the company will operate five times a week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday), and flights were canceled on Tuesday and Thursday.

In the last week of October, from October 26 to 31, the company will operate 3 times a week (Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday), while flights on Wednesday and Thursday are canceled.

Air France to Dubrovnik

Air France will operate on the Dubrovnik - Paris route on October 11, 14, 17, 21, and 24. The original plan of the company was to operate regularly on this route 3 times a week, on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays until the end of the summer flight schedule, but the company made some changes and reduced the number of weekly flights on this route.

In total, by the end of October, the company will operate 5 more flights on the Dubrovnik - Paris route, which will then end its operations for this summer season.

Air France flies to 67 destinations in Europe, which is the usual network of destinations of this airline in the winter flight schedule. Air France allows its passengers a refund for canceled flights. Passengers can change the date of travel and destination or choose a voucher for future travel or request a refund in full. This policy applies to all tickets purchased by March 31 of the following year.

Air France has confirmed that it will operate on the Zagreb - Paris route in the winter months, announcing daily flights between the two cities, but their realization will depend on the state of reservations, and demand on this route is drastically lower due to the global pandemic.

Lika and Mali Losinj Among the TOP 100 Sustainable Destinations in the World

October 7, 2020 - Global Green Destinations has named Lika and Mali Losinj among the TOP 100 sustainable destinations in the world!

HRTurizam reports that Global Green Destinations is an international foundation that brings together the world's sustainable tourist destinations. This week, Global Green Destinations Days released the Global TOP 100 Sustainable Destinations for 2020, which included two Croatian destinations: Lika and Mali Losinj.

The competition for 100 sustainable destinations is organized to show stories of sustainable tourism and good practices, as inspiring examples to other destinations, tour operators, and travelers. According to the evaluation of the TOP 100 Green Destination team, this year, the selection was more than ever determined by the quality, efficiency, and portability of good practice stories submitted by destinations when applying.

Since its founding, the Lika Destination cluster has been guided by the philosophy of sustainable development (Smart Sustainable Destination), and the main activity of the cluster is the tourist promotion of Lika destinations on the domestic and foreign markets based on natural, cultural, historical, gastronomic and health features.

Quality cooperation with 8 protected natural areas, including as many as 3 out of 8 national parks in Croatia, forming a joint ticket to Lika, implementing multi-day programs to stay longer, networking and connecting local producers under a common brand - Lika Quality, opening new markets and encouraging the increase of local production and numerous projects in the field of destination, cultural and sustainable tourism are just part of what the Lika Destination Cluster has been working on since day one, to create conditions for the development of sustainable year-round tourism in Lika.

"Destination Lika in recent years is becoming increasingly recognizable in the tourism market, and this certificate is just further proof of how the Lika Destination Cluster works well on the promotion of the destination and development on the principle of sustainable development," points out the Lika Destination Cluster and emphasizes that this prestigious award is proof of destination development in the right direction and aligned with the latest world trends.

Mali Losinj is again in the group of the best this year, and in 2020, it competed in the categories of Culture and Community and Nature and Ecotourism.

"Sustainable development management, which is a strategic issue and a great responsibility, is carried out at all levels of the destination, as evidenced by the fact that we are included in the Top 100 sustainable destinations in the world," said the director of the Mali Losinj Tourist Board, Dalibor Cvitkovic. The Mali Losinj Tourist Board is among the leaders in sustainable development in Croatia.

“We were among the first to get involved in the European Commission project: ETIS - European Tourism Indicator System for Sustainable Destinations, we participate in the CROSTO project - Croatian Observatory for Sustainable Tourism Development and many others. This year, as an example of good practice, we presented the Integrated Quality Management in Destination (IQM) project, which involves more than 130 stakeholders in the destination to raise quality in all segments, creating quality standards, stakeholder connectivity, and recognizability of Losinj as a destination of excellence. We are glad that, along with Losinj and Lika, the destination was chosen in the Top 100 sustainable destinations in the world because it is proof that our strategy of sustainability and balance of tourism and environmental development is sailing in the right direction," concluded Cvitkovic.

By publishing this annual list and sharing awards of good practice and success stories in destination management, the initiators recognize the steps taken to make tourist destinations more sustainable, responsible, and attractive to visitors.

This leading global conference dedicated to sustainable destination management and competition is held under the auspices of the Top 100 Partnership, with special contributions from Green Destinations, QualityCoast, TravelMole, Vision on Sustainable Tourism, Travelife, ITB Berlin, Asian Ecotourism Network, Ecotourism Australia, and GLP Films.

Flights to Croatia: easyJet Stops Dubrovnik and Reduces Split, Austrian Cancels Zagreb

October 6, 2020 - The latest news for flights to Croatia as easyJet stops Dubrovnik and reduces Split, and Austrian Airlines cancels Zagreb.

Croatian Aviation reports that easyJet completed most of its lines to Dubrovnik on the first weekend of October. Until the end of October, this well-known low-cost carrier will operate only to Split Airport.

Although easyJet flew to Pula, Zadar, Split, and Dubrovnik until the end of the season (end of October) in last year's summer flight schedule, this will not happen this year. Lines to Zadar and Pula stopped operating at the end of September, and the company planned to operate on 4 lines to Dubrovnik and eight to Split by the end of October.

easyJet further reduced traffic to Dubrovnik. In the first five days of October, it operated the last flights of this year from Bristol, Edinburgh, and London to Dubrovnik Airport. Although tickets were on sale until the very end of October, this airline decided to stop traffic much earlier than planned.

easyJet previously announced traffic on 8 international routes to Split by the end of October, but two lines, from Bristol and Glasgow to Split, were canceled.

The company now offers 6 lines to Split Airport:

Basel - Split, twice a week, until October 24,

Berlin - Split, twice a week, until October 24,

Gatwick - Split, twice a week, until October 24,

Geneva - Split, once a week, until October 24,

Luton - Split, once a week, until October 24,

Manchester - Split, once a week, until October 17.

With the end of the summer flight schedule (October 24), easyJet will suspend operations to Split Airport and end this year's summer season to Croatian airports. easyJet plans to operate to Croatian destinations in 2021 on all lines.

Croatian Aviation also reports that as confirmed to them by Austrian Airlines spokesperson, the airline will temporarily cancel the Vienna - Zagreb route in mid-October.

Austria Airlines will operate its last flight to Zagreb on Monday, October 16, while all other flights after that date have been canceled.

Exceptionally, the company plans to operate on this line during the Christmas and New Year holidays (only 10 flights), but it will depend on passenger demand. From January to the beginning of the summer flight schedule (end of March next year), Austrian will not operate on this route.

After the departure of Emirates and FlyDubai, this is another blow for Zagreb Airport. Austrian has been a long-term user of Zagreb Airport and has normally operated on this route several times a day, both in summer and winter.

After many years, this winter, Zagreb will be without a direct connection with Vienna.

Flights to Croatia: Lufthansa Stops Several Routes to Croatia in October

October 5, 2020 - The latest news for flights to Croatia as Lufthansa stops several routes to Croatia in October.

Croatian Aviation reports that German airline Lufthansa will drastically reduce the number of operations at Croatian airports by the end of October.

Lufthansa, a Star Alliance member, has not operated on its two seasonal lines since October: from Munich to Pula and Zadar. Although the lines operated in October, the company stopped operations earlier this year due to the impact of the global pandemic or reduced demand.

In October, Lufthansa will have 7 active routes to Croatian airports, two less than in the previous month. Although the number of routes did not decrease significantly, there was a large reduction in the number of weekly flights to Croatian destinations.

A look at the flight schedule that is in effect until the end of this month.

Frankfurt - Dubrovnik will operate once a week, on Saturdays, until October 17. Lufthansa operated 3 times a week on this line in August and twice a week in September.

Munich - Dubrovnik will operate four times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, until October 24.

Frankfurt - Split will operate once a week, on Saturdays, until October 17. The company operated on this line 4 times a week in August, and 3 in September.

Munich - Split will operate four times a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, until October 24.

Frankfurt - Zadar will operate once a week, on Saturdays, until October 24. This is one flight less per week compared to September, and two compared to August.

Frankfurt - Pula will operate until October 17, once a week, on Saturdays. This, too, is one flight less per week than in September, and two less than in August.

Munich - Zagreb will operate 5 times a week until October 17; on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. From October 18, there will be only three flights a week on this line, on Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

Lufthansa will stop traffic to Adriatic airports earlier than in previous years, and there will be a reduction in the number of weekly flights on the Munich - Zagreb route.

It is still unknown whether Croatia Airlines will operate on Dubrovnik - Frankfurt, Split - Frankfurt, and Split - Munich in the winter flight schedule this year.

Ukraine's Windrose Airlines Launches Direct Flight Between Kiev and Zagreb

ZAGREB, October 4, 2020 - The first Ukrainian Windrose Airlines charter flight touched down at Zagreb's Franjo Tudjman Airport on Sunday as part of the first direct flight service between Zagreb and Kiev.

Windrose Airllines will be flying between the two capitals twice a week, on Sundays and Wednesdays, until March 21 next year. The first flight brought about 50 tourists from Kiev who continued to their destinations along the Adriatic coast, while 64 passengers travelled from Zagreb to Kiev. This was described as very good booking given that the aircraft has a seating capacity of 75. The fact that there are no direct flights between Zagreb and Moscow is expected to ensure good occupancy for this flight.

A special ceremony was held at the airport for this inaugural flight attended by representatives of Windrose Airlines, Zagreb Airport, a Ukrainian government delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Oleksii Reznikov and Croatian Minister of Tourism and Sport Nikolina Brnjac.

"We hope this flight service will contribute to economic cooperation between the two countries and will help attract investment and tourists from Ukraine," Brnjac said, adding that Ukrainian tourists had generated about 400,000 overnight stays in Croatia in the year to the end of August, which is 56 percent of last year's figure.

Last year Croatia had seen a 30 percent increase in the number of tourist arrivals from Ukraine, and Brnjac said she was glad to see that the cooperation was continuing at the present time of the coronavirus pandemic.

Reznikov expressed hope that this flight service would "operate forever" in the interest of promoting economic ties between the two countries.

Among the passengers on board the first flight from Kiev was Croatia's Ambassador to Ukraine, Anica Djumic. Also present at the ceremony was Ukraine's Ambassador in Zagreb, Vasyl Kyrylych.

Flights to Croatia: After Emirates, flydubai Cancels Zagreb Service?

October 4, 2020 - The latest news for flights to Croatia as flydubai cancels Zagreb for October, November, and most of December... for now.

Croatian Aviation reports that just a few hours after Emirates canceled the Dubai - Zagreb service for all of 2021, its partner company flydubai made changes to its Zagreb route, too.

Recall, Emirates flew to Zagreb in the summer, and flydubai in the winter. The same schedule was announced for this year as well.

However, Emirates canceled the Dubai - Zagreb route for this year, but the possibility of flydubai returning on the same route at the beginning of the winter flight schedule was still in the works. Airline tickets on this route could be bought literally until Friday, and while we were skeptical about if these flights would return at all, we now have our answer.

flydubai has canceled all flights to Zagreb for October, November, and almost the whole of December. There are currently departures on sale from December 27, with 3 flights announced per week through January, February and March, but the probability that they will be realized is very small.

Given that Emirates has completely canceled the Dubai - Zagreb route for next year, the question arises whether flydubai will operate on it at all. According to the available flight schedule, it will not, but there is enough time left for this low-cost company to include Zagreb in its network of destinations for the 2021 summer flight schedule.

Zagreb does not currently have an announced direct air connection with Dubai for 2021. The line has been operating regularly since 2014, it was launched by flydubai.

Recall, TCN reported on Saturday that Emirates canceled all flights to Zagreb for the next year, closed its office at Zagreb Airport, and fired its employees. The large B777-300ER aircraft in Zagreb every day will not return to the Croatian capital any time soon, which is certainly a financial blow to the airport, given the revenue it generated from the daily landings of this company's aircraft.

The arrival of this airline in Zagreb was truly a success for the management of Zagreb Airport, but its complete withdrawal can certainly be considered a failure. Emirates connected Zagreb with the rest of the world on a daily basis, offering excellent service to passengers on its flights on which it operated modernly equipped aircraft. The departure of this airline is a step backward for Zagreb Airport.

Flights to Croatia: Emirates Cancels Zagreb for 2021

October 3, 2020 - The latest news for flights to Croatia as Emirates cancels Zagreb for 2021.

Croatian Aviation reports that Emirates, a world-famous airline based in Dubai, has canceled the Dubai-Zagreb route for all of 2021!

The company planned to operate on the Dubai-Zagreb route in this year's summer flight schedule. Still, due to the global coronavirus pandemic, the start of operations on this route was first postponed, and then it was completely canceled for this year.

Emirates then left daily flights on this route on sale for the 2021 summer flight schedule, but that too has now changed. Namely, the company canceled all flights to Zagreb for the next year, closed its office at Zagreb Airport, and fired its employees.

The management had to do everything in their power to keep this company on schedule for 2021 but unfortunately failed to do so.

In addition to the Dubai-Zagreb line for 2021, Emirates also canceled the following lines:

Dubai - Edinburgh,

Dubai - Porto,

Dubai - St. Petersburg.

Epidemic by weeks, from 19 th – 31 st week of the epidemic
Table 1 shows the epidemiological indicators by epidemic week. The data shows that one of the most important epidemiological indicators, the rate of confirmed cases, the number of tests and the share of positive ones show a positive trend in the last 5 weeks. The confirmed case rate has been steadily declining since week 27 when it stood at 47.6 to 31,2 at week 31. The total number of tests has been growing continuously for the past 4 weeks, i.e. from the 25 th week, but at 31 st week there was a slight decrease in the number of tests compared to previous weeks. The proportion of positive people in total testing also fell steadily, falling from 12.5 in the 26 th week of the epidemic to 3.7 in the 31 st week.

tab1-sept29.png

Table 2 shows a set of indicators related to the severity of the clinical picture and the characteristics of deaths. The table shows that in the last 4 weeks there has been an increase in the average age of cases and the number of cases on the respirator, which corresponds to previous findings that older people are more likely to develop more severe clinical forms and higher mortality in older age groups. The death rate in the last 3 weeks shows stagnation.

tab2-sept28.png

Table 3 shows the incidence of the 7-day rate in the two last weeks with a limit of 50/100 000 inhabitants, which in some countries is taken as one of the criteria in assessing the epidemiological situation. In most counties, the 7-day rate is generally stable or slightly declining.

Clinical aspects - Hospitalizations and severity of clinical picture for the period 22.9.-28.9.2020.
Figure 2 shows the relationship between the daily number of confirmed cases and the daily number of hospitalized cases. Number of hospitalized cases per day ranged between a minimum of 16 and a maximum of 37, while the share of hospitalized cases in the total daily number of confirmed cases ranged from 9.9% to 33.3%.

fig2-sept28.png

Figure 2. Overview of the daily number of confirmed and hospitalized cases (15.9.-21.9.)

Figure 3 shows the proportion of hospitalized in the total number of weekly cases. Of the total number of confirmed cases in a given weekly period, 15.2% were hospitalized, which is an increase compared to last week's 13.2%. In the same period, 16 people were put on a respirator, which makes 1,3% of the total number of confirmed cases.

fig3-sept28.png

Figure 3. Relation of the total number of confirmed and hospitalized cases (22.9.-28.9.)

The graph in Figure 4 shows that the slope of the curve of confirmed cases is followed by the curve of cured cases, while the curve of active cases, in addition to some ascending, shows stagnation in certain periods related to the continuation of the first wave of the epidemic in Croatia. In the last 2 weeks the curve of active cases shows a declining slope.

Sibenik-Knin and Zadar Counties No Longer on Germany's Red List

October 1, 2020 -  Sibenik-Knin and Zadar counties are no longer on Germany's red list for travel.

HRTurizam reports that last night, the German Robert Koch Institute revised the list of countries that are on the red list, that is, high-risk countries for travel during the coronavirus pandemic.

What is important to point out is that Sibenik-Knin and Zadar counties are no longer on the red list, so it is now possible to travel to those Croatian counties.

The following counties are still on the red list in Germany: Brod-Posavina, Dubrovnik-Neretva, Lika-Senj, Pozega-Slavonia, Split-Dalmatia, and Virovitica-Podravina.

Declaring an area at risk means that those returning from high-risk countries on holiday must be tested for coronavirus and remain in self-isolation until they receive a negative test result.

Recall, on September 29, the Slovenian government adopted changes to the countries on the lists unsafe for travel during the corona era.

"The Government took note of the Assessment of the Epidemiological Situation in the European Union and the Schengen Area, the Balkans and selected Third Countries, the Assessment of the Epidemiological Situation in the Countries and the European Commission's Re-open EU Recommendation, as well as the Criteria per 100,000 inhabitants by country prepared by the National Institute of Public Health. It assessed the professional justification of the restrictions from the Ordinance on ordering and implementing measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 at border crossings at the external border, at checkpoints at internal borders, and in the Republic of Slovenia and decided that these restrictions should continue to apply," said the Slovenian Government on its website.

Thus, the red list includes 16 EU Member States and the Schengen area, with only administrative units with a poor epidemiological picture and 114 third countries with an uneven distribution of infections.

Regarding Croatia, the red list now includes Brod-Posavina, Dubrovnik-Neretva, Lika-Senj, Pozega-Slavonia, Sibenik-Knin, Split-Dalmatia, Virovitica-Podravina and Zadar counties.

The orange list now includes the Croatian counties bordering the country. This means that from these areas, Slovenia can be entered with a negative coronavirus test and without having to quarantine.

Serbia and Poland are on the green list again, together with Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Liechtenstein, and Finland, while neighboring Italy has been withdrawn from the green list.
