Dugopolje Receives First Public Bicycle System

July 24, 2019 - After the public bikes arrived in the city Split, the first municipality in Inland Dalmatia has received a public bicycle system. Two weeks ago, the municipality of Dugopolje announced a new system of public bicycles, a project co-financed by the Ministry of Tourism, which encourages the development of cycling tourism infrastructure in less developed tourist areas.

The public bicycle system allows users to rent classic city and electric bikes in two locations in Dugopolje - at Franjo Tudjman Square in front of the House of Culture and the parking lot in front of the Croatian Knights football stadium. Currently, four classic city bikes and four electric bikes are available to users, and bicycles can be borrowed and returned to any of these two locations. The Nextbike franchise system of public bicycles is the first and the largest of such a system in Croatia and neighboring countries, and Nextbike bikes are used in more than 250 cities around the world. Instructions for use, price lists, and other information are available at the bicycle stands and can also be found on the official Nextbike website.

The Dugopolje Tourist Board hopes that these public bicycles will be of use to residents of Dugopolje, as well as to employees in the economic zone, and to local and foreign tourists who are increasingly visiting this part of the Dalmatian hinterland.

Note that the municipality of Dugopolje, with the co-financing of the Split-Dalmatia County and the Ministry of Tourism, has so far built three bike rest areas equipped with bicycle services, mobile chargers, and one even has free wireless Internet. The fourth rest area at Vranjača Cave in Kotlenica is underway.

Folklore fans will enjoy the international folklore dances, vocals and musical traditions fostered by guest folk groups from Russia, Poland, Hungary, Macedonia, Slovakia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia. The initiative for the International Folklore Encounters dates back to 2007 when these meetings first united the individual efforts in the organizations of international cultural exchanges of KUDs from K. Kambelovac, Muć, and Dugopolje. Regardless of the fellowship that fosters the preparation and realization of the project, all the folklore societies involved have maintained the distinctive identity of their folklore festivals in their areas.

The following groups will present this year:

- 18.07 starting at 21:00 in Kaštel Kambelovac (Church of St. Michael) at the 17th International Folklore Encounters „Za jubav tance igraše“

- 19.07 starting at 21:00 in Dugopolje (Domovinske Zahvalnosti Square) at the 16th International Folklore Encounters „Ljepota u kamenu – kamenitom“

- 20.07 starting at 21:00 in Donji Muć (on the outskirts of Radača in Donji Muć) at the 18th International Folklore Festival „Stara je škrinja otvorena“
- 21.07 starting at 21:00 in Dugi Rat (Poljička trg) at the 5th International Folklore Festival "Kolo, kolo, kolajna od zlata“

The following folklore groups will be invited every night:

Mnogoletie Ensemble (Moscow, RUS)

Regional Zespol Banda Burek (Wisniowe, PL)

KUD Ilinden (Struga, MK)

KUD Tanac (Pećuh, HU)

Folklore Subor Čačinare (Spišska Nova Ves, SK) and

Croatian Cultural and Artistic Society "Rodoč" (Mostar, BiH)

The program of each folklore evening will be complemented by the hosts and their guest ensembles from Croatia. During the past 12 years, over 1700 folklore amateurs from 72 cultural and art associations from several countries such as Austria, Italy, France, Slovakia, Slovenia, Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Portugal, Spain, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Canada, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Bulgaria have performed. Local folklore groups aim to complement the programs of local cultural summer programs through these international folklore events, emphasizing the openness of local communities to tolerance, understanding and accepting diversity between cultures and traditions. In these cultural exchanges, which are an integral part of the International Folklore Encounters' Project, members of KUDs introduce the rich cultural heritage of Croatia to audiences across Europe, performing their traditional music, songs and dances, and are proud hosts to guest groups in Croatia.

Of particular value to organizing such meetings is the fact that a multitude of groups that have already performed at previous meetings return to Croatia for further visits, and their members often return to Croatia as guests.

Inland Dalmatia: Beauty Behind the Mountains (New Promo Video)

February 11, 2019 - Inland Dalmatia is one of the fastest growing tourism areas in Croatia. Find out why in this new promo video.

Of all the tourism regions in Croatia, I have the biggest soft spot for inland Dalmatia, a magnificent region a short drive behind the mountains from Split and the Makarska Riviera. A region that has been largely ignored by tourists until the last few years. These days tourists are learning that Inland Dalmatia has a wealth of treasures which can be easily explored in a day trip (or longer) from the beach.

My soft spot for inland Dalmatia stems from my first connections with the region. An invitation for lunch and tour of Sinj by the then Sinj Tourist Board director led to other invitations and the realisation that here was an absolute jewel that people needed to hear about. The local tourist board directors were all very supportive of an idea to connect all the potential into one English-language website, and the website Total Inland Dalmatia was born. It was the first time that any tourist board had supported any of the Total projects.

And it was truly a job to tell the world about. Some people were saying I was a great writer, full of fascinating stories. In truth, I was just telling people what was available to visit, often for the first time in English. There were other favourable factors too, such as HBO choosing Klis Fortress to be a key filming location for Game of Thrones, and the opening of the tunnel from the Makarska Riviera to the hinterland has revolutionised tourism in the region, particularly Imotksi, which has probably benefited most from all this positive change.

What makes inland Dalmatia so special for me, apart from the friendliness of the people and lack of tourist crowds, is the sheer variety of things to see and do - nature, adventure tourism, heritage, tradition, food and wine. And can I mention nature again? There is SO much to see and do there, and the local tourist boards have worked hard in recent years to bring their various towns together to present one cohesive product. It is also a fabulous team building destination, as TCN writers found out a couple of years ago

And then a beautiful video from AS Media, uploaded this morning to the Trilj Tourist Board Facebook page, encapsulates much of the magic.

Inland Dalmatia Becoming More Popular, Tourist Potential "Invaluable"

Under the slogan “Inland Dalmatia - unexplored beauty,” the Inland Dalmatia region was presented as the most successful destination of rural tourism in Croatia this year, in the presentation hall of the Sinjska Alka Museum on Thursday evening, reports Slobodna Dalmacija on December 20, 2018.

Inland Dalmatia, as a unique tourist destination, makes up the area that includes the towns of Sinj, Trilj, Imotski, Vrgorac and Vrlika and the municipalities of Dugopolje and Klis. Tourism workers from this area, together with Joško Stella, director of the Split-Dalmatia County Tourist Board, estimated that the tourist potential of the region was invaluable.

Tourism, as an economic branch in this area, has started with significant delay, but in the last ten years, a breakthrough has been made that leads to optimism. Joško Stella especially emphasized this about Inland Dalmatia.

“Inland Dalmatia occupies 70 percent of our county's area and has 2 percent of county tourism. In our county and county tourist board the tourist significance of Inland Dalmatia is recognized, and in that context, it helps. We have witnessed two major leaps lately.

The first is the Sinjska Alka Museum, which is world-class and whose time is still coming. The second step was made by the Imotski region, where today there are over 200 holiday houses with swimming pools. I think we are on the right track to continue and persist,” Stella said.

The presentation of Inland Dalmatia as the most successful destination of rural tourism was opened by Sinj mayor Kristina Križanac, who pointed out in detail that Sinj is the central part of Inland Dalmatia with two strong brands, the Sinj Alka and the Miraculous Lady of Sinj as the largest Virgin Mary shrine in the southern Croatian region. In addition to the “Alka” city, the whole Cetina region is rich in cultural, natural and traditional heritage and boasts many events.

Monika Vrgoč, the director of the Sinj Tourist Board, also spoke about Inland Dalmatia as a unique tourist destination. Vrgoč reminded that every segment of the destination, with its specific content, creates exactly what potential visitors want, only they need to discover it and come closer to it.

Tomislav Balić from Dugopolje spoke about the traffic and public tourist infrastructure. He recalled that the tourist infrastructure in the entire destination is rapidly developing, and EU grants are being used as well.

As part of the presentation, promotional films about the destination as a whole and about Sinj, Imotski, and Vrlika were shown. The program also saw performances by klapa "Vrilo”, folk customs from the Association for the preservation of the heritage of the Cetina regionj, the Sinj majorettes, and especially attractive were children in favorite folk costumes.
