The association is known for educating the local community and has been active for more than a decade. They have held over 20 cycles of lectures on topics like programming, hardware, design, marketing, and multimedia. Their most famous cycle is "School of Programming Basics," which has had 10 editions so far. Also, every year in mid-May, they organize the largest student IT conference in the Croatian language, DUMP Days.

This time, DUMP is preparing a cycle dedicated to front-end programming in which participants will master the process of creating a website. Prior knowledge is not required because it starts from the very basics of programming logic and basic concepts such as variables, inputs, and branching. Through the first two lectures, you will get acquainted with JavaScript and the background of creating the page itself, and the remaining 3 lectures will introduce you to the world of styling and animating a website using HTML and CSS.

Lectures are free, but you need to sign up on the Google Form. Registrations are possible until October 1 at 23:59 or until the maximum number of participants registers. The first lecture is already on Saturday, October 2, starting at 5:00 p.m. Lectures continue every Saturday at the same time and will be held at the FESB in Hall A100. Accompanying workshops are held on Sundays.

Klima-Forum Conference: All Things Cooling and Air-Conditioning to be Discussed in Umag

September 17, 2021 - Set to be held in Umag on October 7-8, the Klima-Forum Conference is the event to go to for discussions on the contemporary issues of cooling systems and air conditioning in Croatia. Registrations for participation are now underway.

''Nineteen days and eighteen hours'' is displayed on the countdown on the Energetika-marketing.hr website at the time of writing this article. For the professional air-conditioning community, the countdown is more than exciting, as it points how much time remains until the 8th edition of the Klima-Forum, the event about all things related to Cooling, Ventilation, and Air-conditioning.

''The westernmost part of Istria, the first days of autumn, beautiful nature, a pleasant climate... could there ever be a better environment for a discussion and an exchange of experiences, opinions and ideas, for the presentation of new products, solutions and implemented projects in refrigeration, ventilation and air-conditioning technology?'' wonders Energetika-marketing.hr while inviting interested parties to the forum that will take place in Umag on October 7-8 at the Sol Garden Istra hotel.

Even though the application section on the website is made for registration and accommodation, the website nevertheless warns that interested people should send an inquiry to register for both participation and accommodation via email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

At the moment, admissions are being taken both for those who just want to come and learn more as well as for authors who also want to present their work in the field of cooling systems.

''The authors of presentations that will be presented at the conference are exempt from paying the registration fee on the day they present their presentation. If a presentation has more than one author, the one who will present at the conference is the one exempt from paying the registration fee,'' says the website.

The program that includes round-tables, discussions, and lectures has been divided into six thematic sections.

On Thursday, October 7, the themes will be Globally and Locally (on laws and practices in Croatia, Europe, and the rest of the world), Ventilation and Air-conditioning (on the pandemic, health protection, cleaning solutions, and more), and Regulation and Control (on smart grids, buildings, and similar topics).

The next day, October 8, the forum will deal with the themes of Projects and Solutions (designing, testing and implementing cooling systems, etc.), Renovation and Modernisation (nearly zero-energy buildings, energy renovation), and finally, Efficiency and Development (the energy consumption of cooling and ventilation systems and more).

With concerns about energy efficiency continuing to take a front seat for the climate change topic, this conference is another environmentally friendly step forward for Croatia. As TCN previously wrote, positive examples include the Hrvoje Požar Energy Institute (EIHP), being the first nearly-zero energy building in Croatia, and the REPLACE Project, to name just a couple of examples.

Several scientific-technical are also keenly backing this upcoming event. These five patrons are the University of Rijeka, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture (University of Split), the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture (University of Zagreb), the Croatian Chamber of Engineers, and the Croatian Association for Cooling, Air-Conditioning and Heat Systems.

In addition, the lead patron is the Croatian Chamber of Commerce (HGK)

DUMP Days 2021: Most Famous IT Conference in Croatian Language Delights All Participants!

May 20, 2021 - The DUMP Association of Young Developers held another DUMP Days conference last weekend in Split.

As one of the largest IT conferences in this area, it brought together the Croatian IT community, but this time in an unprecedented hybrid edition. Partly at the Split FESB and partly online, the young 'dumpsters' successfully held a conference respecting epidemiological measures while bringing a lot of interesting content.

This year, DUMP Days, Dev, Design, Marketing, and Tech hosted all IT enthusiasts at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Naval Architecture. Thus, Split once again became the epicenter of the Croatian technology scene, enabling companies to meet young talent in one place.

Nebojsa Veron, DUMP alumni, and director of Blank Development said the following at Days 2021:

"As an alumni member who has been here since the beginning of the Association, I am glad that a project that has brought the Croatian IT scene together for years is still being realized. Not only is the DUMP Days conference a great way to promote a company, but it is an ideal way to connect with young talented staff. For regular Days attendees, the lack of hats from previous years is a little strange, but the team has done everything at a top level."

The program of this year's Days was rich and varied. The experts held a series of lectures and two-panel discussions that visitors watched online from their laptops from the comfort of their own homes. About how this year's online format was accepted, the numbers of dumpers can testify - 2000+ online followers and the maximum allowed number of appointments for live groups!

Obviously, people want to learn more about innovations in the world of digital technologies, and they are also interested in other people's life paths that could potentially inspire them in creating their own destinies.

Regarding the physical participation in the conference, with the support of the Crisis Center and compliance with all measures, all activities were held without incident. The schedule did not disappoint at all - from workshops led by top experts in their fields to fly talks where partly outdoors and partly online, young people would meet company representatives and thus gain insight into the necessary knowledge and skills to find a job in the IT sector. After all, numerous regional companies had their stands in the exhibition space and gave insight into the atmosphere and work in their offices.

“Congratulations to the organizers of DUMP Days 2021! Despite all the epidemiological measures, they managed to organize excellent workshops and prepare interesting lectures for us digital people. See you next year!" said the enthusiastic Lydia, a DUMP Days visitor.

On this occasion, the Dump organization wants to thank their visitors for their participation, respect for all measures, and understanding.

Croatian Talent Creates Boat Prototype, Crushes Competition in Switzerland

As Morski/Jurica Gaspar writes on the 15th of September, 2019, a positive story from Croatia was proverbially penned recently by a talented Croatian team from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture in Split.

Five years ago, the Hydros Foundation launched an invitation to students around the world, inviting them to participate in an international environmental competition, aimed at creating the vessel of the future. The Croatian FESB Hydro team is now back from the international competition held between the 2nd of September and the 8th of September, 2019 in the Swiss city of Yverdon-les-Bains. Despite very strong competition from 10 university teams from 6 countries, the Croatian team achieved some remarkable results.

''Since 90 percent of the world's traded goods are shipped by sea, maritime transport is a major economic and environmental challenge. The quantity of goods has quadrupled since the 1970s, as shipping by sea is the cheapest means of transporting large quantities over long distances and connecting the continents.

Based on the distance travelled, the ship produces 58 times less CO2 per tonne travelled than an aircraft does. Considering this scale, shipping by sea is classified as the fifth largest source of atmospheric pollution in the world - but it can be made more efficient. Each individual percentage of fuel saved by the world's fleet represents an annual drop of 42 million tonnes of CO2 into the environment. The potential is huge,'' says the Hydrocontest-X project manager, Matej Dević, who explained the purpose of the competition recently held in Switzerland.

''The principle is simple: to sail as fast as possible, for as long as possible, all while consuming as little energy as possible.

Equipped with the same electric motor, the teams have a year to use their imaginations and come up with some innovative solutions on how to design the best prototypes possible. The only limitations are: mandatory maximum dimensions (2.5m x 2.5m x 2m) and battery power (7Ah).

The teams compete against each other in two categories that have been developed to align with industrial applications (but in reduced dimensions). These categories are:

Mass transport (container ships, tankers, bulk cargo) with a ballast of 200 kg. Light transport (pleasure boat, express boats for people etc.) with a load of 20 kg. The cargo is of standard dimensions, with a hollow rectangular section measuring 500 mm x 120 mm x 100 mm, and weighing 10 kg. In the transport of heavy cargo, it's necessary to transport 20 such cargoes and for the light category, 2 cargoes,'' explained Dević.

The Croatian team from FESB in Split have every right to be extremely proud of their excellent results. If, after college, they don't leave Croatia in search of work elsewhere, we can freely consider them as minds for the future of modern Croatian shipbuilding. Here are the more than impressive results of their efforts:

A place in the heavyweight category

A place in the lightweight category

A place in the category of heavyweight efficiency

A place in the place in the category of lightweight efficiency

''The boat we designed was designed solely for the heavyweight category, we entered the lightweight category purely for a laugh. Its dimensions are 3.55 m in length, 0.61 m in width, 0.45 m in height,'' explained the Croatian team.

From the very beginning, the Croatian team acted as a team of students of shipbuilding only, however, there was a need for developers, and subsequently two computer science students from Split's FESB joined the project. Ultimately, the team consisted of 12 shipbuilding students (with mostly 3 years of undergraduate study) and 2 computer science students (both with 2 years of undergraduate studies in computer science).

The team of Croatian students who participated in the project are as follows: Ante Buble, Duje Fržop, Luka Galić, Filip Raič, Milivoj Papec, Jure Bebic, Ines Tokić, Ela Kalinić, Karlo Vučić, Jure Penga, Mateo Sikirica, Jana Vojnović, Ana Puljić and Matej Dević. All of them worked under the mentorship of professors from the FESB Department of Naval Architecture.

''All of the professors assisted us in designing the project. Their advice greatly helped us in designing and building the boats for this competition. Professors: Dario Ban, Branko Blagojević, Josip Bašić, Boris Ljubenkov and Martina Andrun,'' Matej Dević noted..

''As far as finances were concerned, FESB covered the cost of accommodation during the competition for all students. At the tender of the University of Split in the second month, we reported the cost of materials needed for the project, however, out of the reported 35,000 kuna, we received only 13,000 kuna which, unfortunately, wasn't sufficient for the procurement of the materials and the construction of the ship, so we had to manage through other means through various sponsorships and donations. At the competition of the Student Union of the University of Split, we applied for travel expenses in the amount of 30,000 kuna, but we received 20,000 kuna. In the end, we were able to fund our participation in this competition.

Of course, it's necessary to emphasise the importance of our numerous sponsors and donors without whom this project would simply not have been possible. If it weren't for those good people who are willing to help us out as students, this project would have been difficult to complete,'' stated Dević.
