January the 27th, 2022 - The Pearl of the Adriatic, Croatia's tourist Mecca... whatever you want to call it... Dubrovnik has been a filming destination for large companies from across the world for several years now. With Robin Hood, Game of Thrones and Star Wars under its belt, a new series of the popular series Jack Ryan is allegedly set to be filmed in Dubrovnik next.
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, Croatia's stunning southernmost city will be the backdrop for yet another mega-popular series, as Dnevnik Nova TV found out, as the new season of the Jack Ryan series will be filmed in Dubrovnik. The star of this action thriller is John Krasinski, and filming in the beautiful UNESCO city under Srdj will, according to sources, begin next month.
"The idea of if being filmed in Dubrovnik came to our notice. If it weren't for the Game of Thrones, there would have been next to no tourists in Dubrovnik during the two years of the coronavirus pandemic. Even today, some Korean women ask when locals when they're planning take the backdrop down,'' said Ante.
The gorgeous old Jesuit Stairs, which were already popular for things like wedding photos, became even more popular after they appeared in an American series. Dubrovnik is now expecting another big production which will be very welcome for most following two very difficult years for tourism, with Dubrovnik being a destination people typically reach only be air.
"According to information from the City of Dubrovnik, about 300 people will participate in this project," said reporter Mario Juric.
Extras are already wanted for what is set to be filmed in Dubrovnik, but some local people don't like seeing all the filming going on. They come here, they create chaos and the question remains how much it suits us, it's not all about the money. Is the message clear?'' noted local Dubrovnik tourist guide Ranko Bautovic.
There is currrently a vow of silence about all other details about what is allegedly set to be filmed in Dubrovnik from the city administration, the American-Croatian production company, as well as from HAVC.

October 7, 2020 - More details emerge on Hollywood star Nicholas Cage in Dubrovnik, as he plays the lead in currently the only American film co-production in Europe - ‘The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.’
Namely, Dubrovacki Vjesnik reports that the American film crew currently in Dubrovnik filmed on Tuesday at Villa Scheherazade.
The Hollywood team led by Nicolas Cage and Chilean actor Pedro Pascal (‘Game of Thrones,’ ‘Narcos’) is currently shooting the only American film co-production in Europe, a film called ‘The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.’
As is expected, security guards are also engaged, both on land and at sea. And at sea, Dubrovnik divers are on-site to ensure the safety of the filmmakers.
We know so far that Cage will play a fictional 'version' of himself in the new project. According to the script, he desperately wants a role in Quentin Tarantino's film and, along the way, tries to smooth out his relationship with his teenage daughter. In the film, which should premiere in March 2021, the main star also deals with a selfish Cage from the early 90s, whom he accuses of being guilty of a series of film failures that brought him to the brink of bankruptcy.
Nicolas Cage reportedly accepted the engagement because the writers explained to Cage that their goal was not to ridicule but to honor his great career.
Cage is staying at the Hotel Argentina in Dubrovnik.
This is the ninth project to apply for the incentive program for filming in Croatia in a year when film production in the entire world has come to a halt due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The shooting of the film, directed by Tom Gormican and produced by Lionsgate, will last for 15 days. In the Croatian part of the project, 412 film workers are involved, including 97 Croatian citizens, and there will be about 300 Croatian extras.
The planned spending of foreign investors for 10 projects this year exceeds HRK 100 million, said HAVC director Chris Marcich.
He recalled that the audiovisual industry in Croatia had resumed its activities in May, under epidemiological measures, and primarily for domestic productions.
Croatia has thus been recognized in the world as a safe location for filming. With the borders reopening, intensive preparations have started for the return of foreign productions, said Marcich.
The service production company for "The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent" is the Dubrovnik-based Ambasada Studio company of producer Erika Milutin Diller (Embassy Films).

September 23, 2020 – Following incredible success with Game Of Thrones, Mamma Mia and others, Croatia filming locations prove to be the best again as HBO's Succession wins 7 Emmys
Historic Dubrovnik was always pretty enough to attract people from far and wide. Dubrovnik has a lot of sights to visit. In addition, it offers many activities such as hiking, cycling, sailing, boat ride, Seabob experience etc. But, following its appearance in TV show Game Of Thrones, interest in visiting the walled city went through the roof. Tourists were not the only ones who wanted to come.
HBO drama Succession is just the latest hit to take advantage of the spectacular scenery while filming in Croatia. The show has just bagged no less than seven prestigious Emmy awards for the season partially filmed in Croatia. In the drama series category, it picked up Emmys for Best Leading Male Role, Best Guest Role, Best Casting, Best Directing, Best Screenplay and Best Picture Editing.

The shooting took place over 12 days in July 2019, primarily on a yacht on which the show's central characters, the Roy family, were taking a holiday. The Croatia filming locations used were the waters around Cavtat, Korcula, Mljet and Sipan. The series ventured into more urban areas of Croatia and, for those scenes, filming locations in Zagreb and Rijeka were sourced. The German-built Solandge was the yacht used in the filming and costs as much as $1.1million (£850,000) to rent for one week.

Now in its third season, Succession centres on the dysfunctional Roy family, owners of a global media and hospitality empire. It stars British actor Brian Cox as the ailing family patriarch with Kieran Culkin heading up the otherwise all-American cast. A total of 613 people worked on the shooting of Succession in Croatia, of which 595 were Croatian (161 film workers, three trainees and 431 extras).

In recent years, major movies such as Star Wars, Robin Hood and one installment in the long-running James Bond series have joined the likes of Game Of Thrones and Mamma Mia in enjoying Croatia filming locations. However, filming in Croatia goes back much further than that. During the 1970s and early 1980s, no less than three Oscar-winning movies used Croatia filming locations - Fiddler on the Roof (1971), The Tin Drum (1979) and Sophie’s Choice (1982).
