ZAGREB, 21 July 2022 - Croatia's Meteorological and Hydrological Service has stated that after a 10-day interlude of not-so-high temperatures, the second heatwave this summer begins in Croatia on Thursday and will run through Sunday.

The maximum daily temperatures can reach 40 degrees Celsius in some areas.

The DHMZ explains that the ongoing warm front is moving from western Europe to our region and will probably remain along the Adriatic coast next week.

Citizens are urged to follow the advice on how to stay safe during extremely hot temperatures.

July the 16th, 2022 - Pula water usage limitations are set to come into force this week to allow for the more rational use of water resources as temperatures soar across Istria County and beyond.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, the popular Istrian City of Pula, alongside Pula Herculanea, which, as part of its wider range of activities also provides maintenance services for public green areas and street cleaning across Pula, will start a series of activities from this week.

The aim of the aforementioned activities will be the more rational use of water resources in order to contribute to prevention or mitigate the effects of the possible announcement of water reduction measures in the area of the wider ​​Istria County and in the City of Pula itself, as was reported from the City of Pula.

As long as there are the proper preconditions for this, the activities of street cleaning and watering of public green areas in the centre of Pula will be carried out without additional savings measures, even at the moment of the possible declaration of reduction measures, writes local portal Glas Istre. It should be noted that the activities of watering park surfaces and plants are carried out during the night, because then the plants can use the water much more optimally, and the consumption is significantly lower due to reduced evaporation and the influence of the harsh summer sunlight.

In order to take a more proactive role in the rational use of Pula water resources, we will start reducing the watering of the remaining public green areas outside of the very centre of Pula in order to minimise overall water consumption. After the decision of the City of Pula comes into force, the measure of closing the showers on the beaches and swimming pools of Valkane, Stoja, Mornar, Zelenika and Hidrobaza will also be implemented.

August 6, 2021 - After a few days with endurable thermal sensations, weather reports indicate that the high temperatures in Croatia will return, but will be short-lived.

There is still some instability ahead of us, but meteorologists are announcing a return of heat and the high temperatures in Croatia soon, reports Večernji List.

At least partly sunny, and occasionally more cloudy with occasional rain or showers and thunderstorms will be today in the northern Adriatic and in the mountains and from the middle of the day in the northwestern parts and inland Dalmatia, predicts the State Hydrometeorological Institute (DHMZ).

In the morning on the mainland in places short-term fog. The wind is mostly weak, in Dalmatia moderate northwest and west. The highest daily temperature is usually between 25 and 30 degrees Celsius.

The temperature will rise further tomorrow, and it will be especially hot on Sunday, with warmer nights. The weekend will pass in the sign of the south, which will intensify on Sunday and will be strong in some places, and moderate on the rest of the coast. A southwesterly wind will blow inland.

On Sunday, as announced by meteorologist N1, it will be especially hot with temperatures up to 35 degrees. After Sunday, the south will weaken. The weather should be kept mostly stable next week.

According to the announcements of HRT's meteorologist from DHMZ, on Monday we will have a weaker wind and more clouds in some places, but mostly dry. At the beginning of the new week, more clouds are expected in the Adriatic, and the daily maximum could fall below 30 degrees.

According to unreliable long-term forecasts, it could warm up again from Wednesday, so temperatures will again be around 30 degrees or more.

July 31, 2021 - It is reported that the high heatwave temperatures recorded in recent days will decrease from today in various parts of Croatia.

The heatwave due to which we have been cooking at more than 30 degrees in recent days is at the very end, so the weather will change in parts of the country today, reports tportal.hr. On Saturday it was mostly sunny and hot, but not completely stable. There were variable clouds in the interior, and mild thundershowers, especially in the western and northwestern parts.

Weak and moderate southwest and west winds on the mainland gradually turned to the northeast and north, while in the Adriatic the south wind blew. The highest daily air temperature was mostly between 33 and 37 ° C, and in mountainous areas a little lower.

On Sunday, however, in the interior and in the northern Adriatic changeable and unstable. There will be occasional showers followed by thunder, already at night in the west of the country, and in the second part of the day possibly in the east.

A thunderstorm is also possible locally, primarily in the first part of the day in the northern Adriatic and in Gorski Kotar. In Dalmatia, it will stay mostly sunny and dry, but heatwave temperatures will certainly decrease in the following days.

A moderate southwesterly wind, occasionally with strong gusts in the afternoon, will turn to the north and northwest wind and weaken. In the Adriatic, moderate to strong south and south winds will blow.

The lowest morning air temperature is mostly between 17 and 22, in the Adriatic from 25 to 28. The highest daily is mostly from 31 to 36 ° C, in some places in the mountains and in the northwest a little lower.

June the 25th, 2021 - HEP has certainly been ''helpful'' to the currently melting reisdents of Zagreb by turning on their radiators in the middle of an intense heatwave.

We're currently on Brac and spending most of our time trying to remain awake as the sun drains every atom of energy from us. A lot of lying under the air conditioner and trying to imagine what a cold breeze actually feels like has been going on. The heatwave is a strong one, and despite our house being right next to the sea, there's very little rescue from the sun's burning rays these days.

One thing we're thankful for is that we're not currently at home in Zagreb, where the temperatures are soaring and swimming in Jarun or the Sava just doesn't quite cut it. HEP has made the situation a lot worse for some of the city's residents by mistakenly turning on their heating, full blast. A big help indeed.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, confused residents of Vladimir Filakovac Street in the City of Zagreb were more than just a little surprised yesterday when they felt that their radiators were heating up to the highest strength possible during the intense heat of the day, reports RTL.

“Our radiators are hot, they're heating up to the highest possible strength. Is that happening just to us or is it everyone? What's going on?''  awoman from Zagreb asked on social media.

In the middle of the ongoing and absolutely exhausting heatwave, the valve broke down, which caused a temporary leakage of thermal energy for indoor heating into the building system, they explained from HEP-Toplinarstvo.

''Immediately after working out what had happened, the defect was rectified. We'd like to take this opportunity to apologise to our end customers for that situation and note that now the heating system in the building in question is functioning properly,'' they assured from HEP-Toplinarstvo, understanding that having the heating on full blast during an intense heatwave isn't really a much desired situation.

June the 22nd, 2021 - It's been very hot all of a sudden across the entire country, with certain areas baking in temperatures which rarely dip below the 30 degree mark. This quite sharp rise in temperature has come as a shock to many after a strange, wet and rather cold spring. The first Croatian heatwave of 2021 can't go on forever, though.

While tourists love Croatian summers for their dry heat which allows for little else than constant floating around in the beautiful Adriatic sea, it gets very boring for those of us who live and work here, hoping each little cloud might bring some respite in the form of rain or even a breeze that doesn't cause a sweat. 

As summer makes itself known and we sit fanning ourselves in the middle of the first Croatian heatwave of 2021, it's difficult to imagine beind able to move around without our clothes sticking to us in the process. When might this hot snap end?

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, as was forecast by Tea Blazevic for N1, We're currently in the very first Croatian heatwave of this year, which has yet to culminate and will, with any luck, do so around the middle of the week. Temperatures locally could rise to an extremely and uncomfortably high 38, and the nights will be unpleasant, tropical, which means that the minimum temperature will not fall below 20.

It is therefore not surprising that a high-level heat wave warning is in force across the entire country, as such unforgiving temperatures can adversely affect human health in a multitude of ways. If her prognosis is anything to go off, towards the end of the week, things will thankfully begin to settle down and temperatures will drop again.

August 12, 2019 - If you thought Sunday was hot on the Adriatic Coast, the worst is yet to come as the peak of summer brings brutal temperatures along for the ride. 

Although the end of the meteorological summer is still a month and a half away, it looks like the two hottest days of this summer are right ahead, reports Dalmacija Danas.

On Sunday, some parts of Dalmatia measured uncomfortably high temperatures. For example, the highest daily air temperature in Knin was 39.3°C, Ploče and Resnik 38°C, and Zemunik 37°C.

However, the new week begins with a warning from DHMZ, who issued a red alert for the entire Adriatic due to the heat. Namely, this is the highest warning level within the MeteoAlarm system.

If the next two days will break temperature records remains to be seen, but we do know that you’ll want to park yourselves under the air conditioning for as long as you can. 

Monday will be sweltering and muggy. The skies will be clear while the wind will be weak or completely absent. The minimum morning air temperatures will range from 18°C somewhere in Zagora (Inland Dalmatia) to 30°C somewhere along the coast. The highest daily temperatures will range from 33°C on the high seas to 40°C in Zagora. 

Tuesday will be mostly clear, though the afternoon in Inland Dalmatia will see moderate to increased cloud development in some areas, with a slight chance of rain showers. It will be quiet or with a light breeze. The morning will be hot with maximum daily temperatures from 33 to 40°C.

A weakened weather front will bring only slightly more variable weather on Wednesday. It will be partly sunny, with occasional cloudy skies. In the second part of the day, there will be light showers with thunder, mostly in southern Dalmatia. There will be a light to moderate bura in the morning and evening and in the daytime, light winds of different directions. It will be a little fresher with maximum daily temperatures between 29 and 35°C.

On Thursday it will be partly sunny, with the occasional moderate clouds and dryness. There will be a light bura wind in the morning, and during the day, a light breeze from the west. The evening and morning are much more comfortable than in the previous days, with maximum daily temperatures between 27 and 32°C.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday will be mostly sunny and dry. The wind will be weaker; in the evenings bura, in the daytime maestral. The nights will be comfortable, with maximum daily temperatures from 27 to 32°C, and a little higher on Sunday.

June 25, 2019 - Martha & the Vandellas knew back in 1965 that their hit ‘Heatwave’ would stand the test of time, and it'll especially get airtime this week as temperatures across Europe are projected to hit 40 degrees Celsius. 

The Guardian reported on Monday that temperatures would reach or even exceed 40 degrees from Spain to Switzerland as "hot air was sucked up from the Sahara by the combination of a storm stalling over the Atlantic and high pressure over central Europe" - but thanks to the high humidity, it’d really feel like 47. Yikes.

Fortunately, Croatia isn’t Spain or France, and temperatures here shouldn’t reach 40 this week, though some parts of the country will reach 35, reports 24 Sata.

Here’s the weather report for the week - stay cool, Croatia. 

Enjoy the weather on Tuesday, as temperatures will rise on Wednesday with the peak expected on Thursday. A cold front is already likely on Friday, which should cool it down a bit, but not by much.

The State Meteorological Institute issued warnings for the upcoming thermal wave in Croatia. On Tuesday, temperatures will rise to a maximum of 33 degrees. But as in the rest of Europe, on Wednesday temperatures will rise again. In Croatia’s interior, temperatures will reach 33 degrees, while on the coast they’ll hit 34 degrees.

The threat of the heatwave will be the greatest on Thursday and Friday in Zagreb, Karlovac, Rijeka, and Split, the DHMZ warns. Namely, on those days, the temperature will reach 35 degrees.

Apart from the high heat, UV radiation is likely to be very high in the days to come, especially on Thursday.

As with all heatwaves, it's important to stay hydrated and avoid being out in the sun at all costs, especially from 11 am to 3 pm. This is especially important for young children and people over the age of 75. Keep your windows shut in the house with the shades down to keep the heat out, and keep a cold shower close.
