July 4, 2022 - The latest flight news to Croatia as Iberia Croatia flights are boosted from Madrid to Zagreb, Split, and Dubrovnik, running daily by the end of the month! 

Spanish airline and OneWorld alliance member Iberia has increased the number of flights to Croatian airports this month, reports Croatian Aviation. 

Compared to June, Iberia offers a greater number of weekly operations to three Croatian airports from its main hub in Madrid this month. Namely, Iberia will increase the number of operations to Split and Dubrovnik at the end of July, and for now, daily flights to these two cities have been announced in August.

Between Madrid and Zagreb, Iberia plans to operate a total of 14 return flights in July, and flights are available three times a week, on Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. From July 30, flights are available daily until the end of August.

Between Split and Madrid, Iberia currently operates on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, and from the end of July, an increase in weekly operations has been announced on this line as well, from the existing 3 to a total of 7 flights per week (daily)! 

Unlike Split and Zagreb, Iberia already operates daily to Dubrovnik Airport, and 7 flights per week are planned until the end of July. Since the beginning of August, the Spanish airline has offered two daily flights on this route (14 per week), but there is still a possibility of reducing the announced number of flights on this route for August. 

In total, 58 return flights are available on Iberia's routes between Madrid, Dubrovnik, Split, and Zagreb in July, mostly with A320 aircraft, which in the fleet of this carrier have a capacity of between 136 and 171 seats. In July alone, more than 18,000 seats are available on the mentioned lines! 

Before the global pandemic, Iberia operated in the winter months to Dubrovnik and Zagreb, but after the end of the lockdown in Europe, the lines operated as seasonal.

June 15, 2022 - The latest flight news to Croatia as Iberia Croatia flights will be boosted from Madrid next month, namely running from Zagreb, Split, and Dubrovnik airports. 

Spanish airline Iberia, a Oneworld alliance member, plans to increase the number of weekly flights between Madrid and Croatian airports in July, reports Croatian Aviation.

The Spanish national airline already operates regular routes from its main base in Madrid to Split, Dubrovnik, and Zagreb.

Between Zagreb and Madrid, Iberia plans three flights a week in July, every Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday, while in the last week of July the number of weekly operations will increase to five. The airline is still selling daily flights between Zagreb and Madrid in August, but there is a possibility that will change.

Sixteen return flights between the two cities have been announced for July, exclusively with A320 aircraft, so 4,928 seats will be available on this route next month.

The Madrid - Split - Madrid line is currently running three times a week, while four flights a week have been announced for July; on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, also with A320 aircraft.

Seventeen return flights were announced on this route in July, and 5,236 seats are currently available.

Dubrovnik and Madrid should be connected on a daily basis in July. Iberia is planning daily operations with A320 and A319 aircraft announced on the route, and a total of 9,528 seats are available on 31 return flights in July.

Between Madrid and the three mentioned Croatian airports, Iberia is offering almost 20,000 seats in July. In addition to point-to-point passengers, the line is used by a significant number of transfer passengers, primarily from North and South America, given that according to destinations on the mentioned continents Iberia Airlines has developed a quality network of routes.

May 25, 2021 - The latest flight news to Croatia as Iberia flights to Split and Zagreb return next month, while the Dubrovnik line will increase to four flights a week! 

Croatian Aviation reports that Spanish national airline, Iberia, will resume traffic to two Croatian airports - Zagreb and Split - from the beginning of June.

Iberia is running again to Zagreb and Split from the beginning of June! Since March, the Spanish national airline has been operating on a regular route between Madrid and Dubrovnik and will reintroduce routes to Split and Zagreb next month. 

Return to Zagreb

These lines were not in operation in the summer of 2020, and the airline only had reduced traffic to Dubrovnik Airport. Still, in the summer of 2021, Iberia will operate to the Croatian capital, Split, and later to Zadar, which will restore traffic on all lines Iberia had in the summer season of 2019, before the pandemic.

The Madrid - Zagreb - Madrid line was announced on Friday, June 4. Initially, Iberia aircraft will operate on this route three times a week, on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Three flights a week have been announced throughout June, and A320 aircraft will operate on the route.

Iberia will offer a total of 4,104 seats between Zagreb and Madrid in June.

Madrid - Split - Madrid from June 1

In addition to Zagreb, Iberia will return to Split Airport as of June 1. In the first half of the month, two flights a week are announced, on Tuesdays and Saturdays, and from mid-June, flights on Saturdays and Sundays are added.

As early as the end of June, Iberia will operate between Madrid and Split five times a week, every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Currently, 16 rotations have been announced on this line in June, with 5,472 seats available for sale between the two mentioned cities.

More flights to Dubrovnik

As we mentioned earlier, Dubrovnik is the only Croatian airport to which Iberia operated in the summer of 2020 and is also the company's first destination in Croatia this summer season.

So far, two flights a week have been available on this route, and as many as four have been announced since the beginning of June (from Friday to Monday).

From Friday, June 18, Iberia plans to operate daily between Dubrovnik and Madrid, with A320 aircraft, so that the Spanish company will offer the largest number of seats to Dubrovnik. There are currently as many as 7,182 seats on sale.

Zadar from July!

Regular flights on the route between Madrid and Zadar are currently postponed to the beginning of July (from July 3). Two flights a week have been announced on this route, on Tuesdays and Saturdays, but given that the start date of operations is still quite far, there is no need to hurry with booking because the airline could continue to cancel flights on this route.

In June, Iberia will have three lines to Croatia with a total of 15 weekly operations. Between Madrid, Zagreb, Split, and Dubrovnik, there are as many as 16,755 seats on offer.

March 4, 2021 - After TAP Portugal delayed the start of operations between Lisbon and Zagreb, Spanish national airline Iberia has postponed the start of flights from Madrid to Zagreb.

Croatian Aviation reports that Iberia and TAP Portugal have postponed the start of traffic on their lines to Zagreb. Obviously, the growth of passenger demand is not expected, which is logical given all the current restrictive measures and recommendations not to travel to other countries to curb the spread of the pandemic.

Iberia planned to resume traffic to Zagreb from Madrid as early as the first day of the summer flight schedule (March 28), but this will no longer happen. All announced flights for March and April have been canceled, and the first flights on this route are now announced from May 1. As a reminder, Iberia did not operate on this line in the summer season of 2020 due to the pandemic. Iberia plans to fly to Dubrovnik from March 28 and has not canceled certain departures to Dubrovnik as of yet.

Recall, TAP Portugal has also postponed the start of traffic from Lisbon to Zagreb. The line was supposed to operate from the first day of the flight schedule (March 28), but it has been postponed until June due to weak demand. The first flight between Lisbon and Zagreb has now been announced for June 2. Flights to Zagreb will operate three times a week, on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.

The delay in the start of operations of two well-known carriers is not surprising, as the same is being done by many other airlines not only to Zagreb but also to the coastal Croatian airports. The reality is that Croatia will probably only have an adequate number of weekly flights to a number of European destinations during the peak summer season; when the pandemic subsides again and the current passenger restrictions between countries are lifted.

January 22, 2021 - The latest news for flights to Croatia as Iberia plans Dubrovnik and Zagreb services in March. 

Croatian Aviation reports that Spanish national airline Iberia has confirmed that it plans to return to Dubrovnik and Zagreb in March this year.

In the 2020 summer season, Iberia operated on only one line to Croatia, connecting Madrid with Dubrovnik. All other routes to Croatian airports did not operate last summer due to low demand.

As confirmed to Croatian Aviation, Iberia plans to return to Zagreb and Dubrovnik at the end of March, and flights will operate depending on restrictive measures and the epidemiological situation.

The Madrid - Zagreb - Madrid line will operate its first flight this year on March 27. The airline plans to operate on this line 3 times a week until the end of April, mostly on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. A320 and A321 aircraft have been announced on the route. From the end of March to the beginning of May, the airline plans to offer over 5,700 seats between Zagreb and Madrid. An increase in the number of weekly flights is expected from mid-May, while in the peak of the summer season, Iberia should operate on this route at least once a day.

The Madrid - Dubrovnik - Madrid line should launch a little earlier, on March 25. The company initially plans three flights a week on this route, but there are already certain dates with ad-hoc flights on other days of the week. From the end of March to the beginning of May, the airline plans almost 20 return flights on this line, and slightly more seats are available for sale compared to the Zagreb line, over 6,500!

We remind you that Iberia did not operate to Zagreb, Split, and Zadar in the summer flight schedule last year, and judging by the current schedule, it will operate to Dubrovnik and Zagreb this year. Of course, changes are still possible. The airline has confirmed that it plans to operate on routes to Croatia according to the specified flight schedule, but this will, once again, depend on restrictive measures and the epidemiological situation that directly affects demand on flights. Routes to and from Madrid in that sense are no exception.

Iberia, Líneas Aéreas de España, S.A., the operator, Sociedad Unipersonal, is the largest Spanish airline. The company was founded in 1927 and is headquartered in Madrid. With its fleet of over 70 aircraft, it flies to more than 70 domestic and international destinations. Their central airport is Barajas in Madrid, and as a second base, they use El Prat Airport in Barcelona.

Iberia has a developed network of destinations. With one transfer, it is possible to travel from and to Boston, Los Angeles, Mexico City, Chicago, New York, Bogota, Buenos Aires, Sao Paulo, Lima, and many other destinations in North and South America.

June 3, 2020 - The latest news from around Croatia’s airports for flights to Croatia with updates from Zagreb, Split and Dubrovnik, and Zadar.

As we announced earlier, Lufthansa will fly from Frankfurt to Dubrovnik and Pula from the end of June. However, Croatian Aviation announced today that the company published a modified flight schedule to destinations in Croatia, according to which Lufthansa normally operates in the summer flight schedule.

In addition to the reintroduction of the Frankfurt-Dubrovnik route, Lufthansa will operate again on the Munich-Dubrovnik route from June 20, once a week, every Saturday. A larger number of weekly flights is expected from the beginning of July when the company could fly on both routes (from Frankfurt and Munich) daily to Dubrovnik.

Lufthansa is returning to Split Airport, connecting this city with Frankfurt and Munich.

From June 20, the line Munich - Split will be introduced, once a week, every Saturday, and from June 27, the line Frankfurt - Split, also once a week, on Saturdays. As is the case with Dubrovnik, a number of weekly flights to Split Airport is expected from July.

On routes to Split and Dubrovnik, Lufthansa will use aircraft from the A320 family (A319, A320, A321) in accordance with the demand and booking on each flight. Smaller aircraft will be used on the route from Frankfurt to Pula.

Likely, the company will not launch other routes to Croatia (Zadar and Rijeka) in June, while the Munich-Zagreb route will most likely be launched by Croatia Airlines, with which Lufthansa has a code-share agreement.

Furthermore, Brussels Airlines previously announced that it would not fly to Zagreb and Zadar this summer season, but has retained the option of launching flights to Dubrovnik and Split.

Croatian Aviation reports that the airline announced a plan to resume regular operations to European destinations from June 15, and from June 27, the destination network will include the Brussels - Dubrovnik line.

The company will operate on the Brussels - Dubrovnik line twice a week, every Tuesday and Sunday, on an A320 aircraft with a capacity of 180 passengers in the fleet of this carrier.

The company plans to introduce regular flights on the Brussels - Split route from July, and at the beginning of next month, the company will increase the number of weekly flights to Dubrovnik (probably to four weeks). The flight schedule of this company for July has not been finalized yet, and when it is confirmed, we will publish the details.

Croatian Aviation also reports that Spanish airline Iberia has announced the resumption of its flights to destinations in Europe as well as those in the US. Among others, the company has included the Madrid-Dubrovnik route in its schedule.

The company normally operates to Zagreb, Zadar, Split and Dubrovnik from Madrid in the summer flight schedule, but in July, according to current announcements, it will only launch a line to Dubrovnik.

From mid-July, Iberia will operate on the Madrid-Dubrovnik - Madrid route 3 times a week, and announces daily flights from the beginning of August. The company has previously announced larger aircraft, the wide-body A332, but, likely, this type of aircraft will not be used on the route to Dubrovnik Airport this summer season, given that demand will be lower than planned before the pandemic.

The route will be operated by A321 aircraft, which has a capacity of 200 passengers in the Iberian fleet.

The company confirmed to us that the flight schedule for July has not yet been finalized, so the possibility of introducing lines from Madrid to Zagreb and Split is left, while the line Madrid - Zadar is expected from August.

Finally, Avio Radar reports that Czech airline Smartwings announced the resumption of flights on June 10. The first flight announced that day is from Prague to Split. The flight to Split will be followed by the launch of other routes, mainly to Greece and Bulgaria. 

The Prague-Split route will run twice a week in the first week, on Wednesday and Saturday. The second week of traffic will see an additional flight introduced on Monday, and from June 24, the line will operate daily. The Prague-Dubrovnik line has been announced from July 1, every day. From Poland, lines from Katowice and Warsaw to Split are on offer once a week, on Thursdays, from June 18. 

Charter lines are also planned, namely Ostrava-Split, on Saturdays from June 13 and Polish destinations Gdansk, Katowice, Poznan, and Warsaw to Dubrovnik from June 25 once a week, on Thursdays. 

Boeing 737-800 aircraft will fly on the routes, and smaller Boeing 737-700 aircraft or larger Boeing 737-900s can also fly. 

ZAGREB, May 31, 2020 - Spanish airlines Iberia and Vueling said last Thursday that as of July 1 they would be flying again from Madrid and Barcelona to some foreign destinations, including Split and Dubrovnik, after the flights had been canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Since a state of emergency was declared in Spain on March 14, Iberia has been operating foreign flights to London and Paris only, so that passengers could reach their destinations in cases of emergency. Traveling for tourism purposes is prohibited, and documents and certificates of the rare foreign passengers at airports are checked by border police.

However, after the Spanish government last Monday announced that foreign tourists would be allowed to enter the country as of July 1, Iberia and Vueling stated that they would gradually restart their flights.

In July, Iberia will start operating flights from Madrid to Dubrovnik, which will be one of its 15 foreign destinations. In August, the airline will introduce flights to 28 additional destinations in Europe and North Africa.

Iberia also used to fly from Madrid to Zagreb and Zadar, but it is still unknown whether they will be resumed.

Flights between Madrid and Split are available for reservations at the Iberia website as of July 1 and passengers will be transported by the Vueling airline.

Iberia and Vueling share the same owner, the International Airlines Group.

Flights from Spain to other continents are suspended until further notice.

February 7, 2020 - The latest news from around Croatia’s airports for new flights to Croatia with updates from Dubrovnik, Zadar, and Zagreb.

Avio Radar reports that Spanish national airline Iberia, a member of the global airline association OneWorld, has announced larger aircraft on its route to Dubrovnik. On select flights on the Madrid-Dubrovnik route, from April 18-25 and September 7-26 this year, the larger, Airbus A330 will be used. The smaller, Airbus A321 aircraft usually runs on this route.

Furthermore, Avio Radar reports that Polish national carrier and Star Alliance member LOT Polish Airlines have announced a new route from Poland to Zadar. Namely, the new route will connect Rzeszow and Zadar once a week, from Saturday, May 30 to September 19, 2020. The Bombardier Q400 aircraft will run on this route. Rzeszow is located in southeastern Poland, and this will be the first scheduled line from Rzeszow to any Croatian destination. 

Previously, the Polish regional carrier EuroLOT flew the Bombardier Q400 from smaller towns in Poland to Zadar, but these lines were discontinued when LOT took over EuroLOT.

LOT will also increase capacity on the Warsaw(Okecie-Fryderyk Chopin)-Zadar route. Specifically, in the heart of the season, the larger Boeing 737-800 aircraft was announced on this line instead of the smaller ERJ-195 Embraer. 

Finally, Ex Yu Aviation reports that we have good news from Zagreb Airport, which welcomed 203,035 passengers in January, which is up 6.2%. Aircraft movements also grew from 2.9% to 3.133%.

Zagreb Airport General Manager, Huseying Bahadir Bedir, expects this trend to continue 

“We expect this trend to continue in 2020. Since the opening of the new passenger terminal, we have achieved significant results in overall traffic, such as an increase in passenger numbers, the number of destinations, new carrier, cargo traffic, an increase in the number of employees, as well as new shops and sales outlets that have been opened. With our strategies and strong focus on future development, we expect even better results in the years to come”.
