British Officials Visit Infobip Campus In Zagreb

ZAGREB, 2 June 2022 - British Minister of State for Europe and North America James Cleverly visited Infobip's Alpha Centauri Campus in Zagreb on Wednesday and talked about the presence of that global communication platform from Croatia in the UK, the Infobip IT company said on Thursday.

A press release notes that Cleverly was accompanied by British Ambassador to Croatia Simon Thomas during the visit.

Infobip has almost 400 clients on the British market and it has two offices in London with just over one hundred employees.

During the meeting, emphasis was placed on the potential to use Infobip's solutions in the public sector.

It's really great to see how Infobip, once a small startup, has grown into a unicorn and is expanding its footprint in the UK, Cleverly said as carried in the press release.

The merging of British and Croatian tech and business expertise is one of the indicators of strong ties between the two countries, he underscored.

The UK is known for many successful companies and today is home to 100 unicorn companies. Thanks to the developed system of innovations, many companies choose them to do business, and they are also known for their large pool of talent - as many as four of the 10 best universities in the world are located in the UK, the press release adds.

Co-founder and CEO of Infobip Silvio Kutić said Infobip has been present in Great Britain since 2012. "To date, ten years later, we have left a significant mark. In addition to a large number of clients, we partner with nine global technology companies, and British startups are present in our Startup Tribe programme. We see a lot of room for continued growth there", underscored Kutić.

Infobip presented its Alpha Centauri campus in Zagreb to the public at the beginning of April, while experts at their largest innovation centre in the world are working on the further development of the cloud communication platform.

The company is continuing to grow and develop its business, while its leadership position in the CPaaS segment was recently confirmed in a report by Omdia, an analytical and consulting firm specializing in the media, technology and telecommunications industries.

Infobip began as a small startup company from Vodnjan in Istria, and today, with 16 years of experience in the IT industry, it employs more than 3,500 people globally and operates on six continents through more than 70 offices.

Colombian-Croatian Startup Minka Gets Enormous Investment

May the 2nd, 2022 - The Colombian-Croatian startup Minka, the head of which is a former ''Infobiper'' from the wildly successful Vodnjan-based company, has recently received a huge cash injection.

As Jutarnji/Novac/Bernard Ivezic writes, new startups have already started emerging from the rather remarkable company Infobip. A good example is the Colombian-Croatian startup Minka, a fintech company which has just raised a huge 24 million US dollars in investments from two major investors, Tiger Global Management and Kaszek. In total, Minka has received 27.5 million dollars in investments so far.

Tiger Global Management is otherwise one of the largest and most active investors in startups. The assets of this American investment company are estimated at over 95 billion dollars, and its founder is New York billionaire Chase Coleman III. Kaszek, on the other hand, is the largest investment company in all of Latin America.

The Colombian-Croatian startup Mika is developing software to modernise the banking system. Its product is a cloud platform which bears the same name (Minka), and which functions like Lego bricks and enables the fast development of applications such as mobile wallets, loyalty programmes, clearing house settlement systems, and various types of infrastructure for central banks and digital banks themselves.

The Colombian-Croatian startup Minka allows both citizens and companies to exchange money between their bank accounts instantly, which, even here in Croatia, isn't yet a widespread standard.

Infobip as a starting point

In the background of Minka lies the much talked about blockchain technology, so its investment is also the largest in a blockchain startup from Croatian founders. Minka's partners are respectable, giant companies such as Google and Mastercard, and the latter is also its investor. Minka was jointly launched by Croatian Domagoj Rozic and Colombian Paola Sanchez. Rozic is the executive director, and Sanchez, who has extensive experience in finance, is the chief operative.

Domagoj Rozic was Infobip's main man for Latin America for almost three years, more precisely from 2013 to 2016. He ran a very important Infobip office in Colombia. He completed his education at MIOC, ie XV. Gymnasium in Zagreb, and then went on to study and graduate in computer science at FER. He started his career as an IT manager in the Control Bureau, then he was a training manager in the IT Centre Zagreb, a project manager in Adacta, and just before leaving for Colombia, he became a partner in Cognita.

He initially left Croatia back in 2011 when he took over the leading position of the British branch of the risk assessment company Drum Cussaca in Bogota. Two and a half years later, he moved to the local branch of Infobip, which us the first Croatian unicorn startup today. He started at Minka at the end of 2016, and the company formally introduces itself as a startup from Bogota, but is legally registered as a company in Delaware, USA.

The entire development of technology, as well as products for the Colombian-Croatian startup Minka, takes place right here in Croatia. Formally, back in February this year, Rozic even registered the company Minka IT in Zavrtnica in the centre of the City of Zagreb, as a subsidiary of its American parent company. There is a support and sales team in Bogota, Colombia. The startup has a total of 30 employees.

Google has nothing but praise for this company

Google Cloud states that the Colombian-Croatian startup Minka is a platform that allows financial institutions to quickly move to so-called open banking, claiming that through Minka, digital financial services can be developed in mere days, not years. Google Cloud itself states that the whole solution can be upgraded within 10 minutes and then live testing can begin within a single day. These are very bold statements from Google, because the development of financial applications is usually measured in months and years, which only goes to show the level that Minka has reached.

The Colombian-Croatian startup Minka, on the other hand, says they want to become an open banking standard for cash-based economies.

''In most such economies, payment and infrastructure is mostly focused on credit card processing, and most transactions take place through clearing houses and cash agents that use what are now rather outdated concepts. The development of new interfaces takes months and years and forces fintechs to spend most of their resources on overcoming this obstacle. In addition, the payment system in such economies is largely fragmented. Minka simplifies everything,'' they explained from the Colombian-Croatian startup.

The largest open banking project in all of Latin America

As an example of what this form of modernisation looks like, Domagoj Rozic pointed out the Colombian clearing house ACH Columbia, with which they realised the Transifiya project in partnership. The largest banks in Colombia are connected to it, and this new settlement system, which uses Minika's technology in the background, now allows access to up to 80 percent of Colombia's bank accounts. This means that thanks to Minka, almost all Colombians can send money from account to account in real time, without waiting for the clearing house, for example, to transfer funds between banks twice a day on weekdays.

''This is the largest open banking project in Latin America,'' Rozic said.

Here in the Republic of Croatia, the counterpart of ACH Columbia would be the Financial Agency (Fina). Across the EU, a similar initiative, but through regulations, is being pushed by the European Commission (EC). The EC has adopted the PSD2 standard, which forces European Union-based financial institutions to evolve towards open banking. This opened the space for an explosion of different Croatian fintechs, as well as for the entry of some great foreign players.

In Europe, most work is being done on standardisation in this area within associations such as Open Banking UK and the Berlin Group, and in Croatia, recently more and more startups like Minka are exploring the opportunities they have gained and offering some brand new services - not only financial ones but also, for example, identity and digital signing services.

Finance as the first association

For Croatian startups, Colombia is a pretty decent place. Although the country itself has a reputation for a completely different industry and for being a politically very turbulent region, for Croatian startups, this South American country is best known for its financial industry. Infobip has built a strong presence over in Latin America thanks in large part to its Bogota branch. However, it should be remembered that the second Croatian unicorn, the Rimac Group, found its first investor in Colombia, at a time when no one in Croatia wanted to invest in Mate Rimac's business and barely even gave him a second glance.

Bogota’s business angel, Franck Christian Kanayet Yepes, despite the entry of major investors into Rimac’s business over the past few years, has remained active within the group and is today chairman of its supervisory board.

Alpha Centauri in Zagreb: Infobip Presents Brand New Innovation Center

April 14, 2022 - Infobip presented its new innovation center, the Alpha Centauri campus, which has firmly placed Zagreb and Croatia at the forefront of the technology industry in this part of Europe.

“At Infobip, we are committed to developing the entire technology community in Croatia, and we are doing this on three levels. The first is the development and innovation led by our employees in Croatia and worldwide. The second is to place Croatia at the center of the development community in this part of Europe through Infobip Shift. And third, we provide knowledge and open the doors of the global market to domestic startups through our Startup Tribe program. Croatia has top talents, and we are delighted that we can help realize their potential with our actions," said Silvio Kutić, co-founder and CEO of Infobip.

The new campus covers 11,900 square meters of indoor and 5,100 square meters of open space. It is unique in that, in addition to modernly designed spaces for work and education, it also has accommodation units that can accommodate employees and guests from other company offices worldwide. Exchanging knowledge and experience within the company and cooperation with the largest technology companies around the world whose experts will regularly come to campus are the backbone of Infobip's work. The campus can accommodate over 800 employees, offering them the best working conditions in a state-of-the-art environment.

The Alpha Centauri campus was developed by architectural teams from 3LHD and Fabrika, and the value of the investment exceeds HRK 150 million. The campus encourages communication between different teams and an agile work methodology with its space design concept. It is spread over eight floors with three floors of office space, a public floor with a restaurant and conference hall, and three floors with accommodation, including a recreation hall, squash court, and a common lounge area.

“Alpha Centauri is our new home of creative and engineering excellence, in the creation of which we have invested a lot of effort, the best experiences we have gathered around the world, but also a lot of positive energy. At Infobip, we believe that disruption in the global market is only possible through innovation, and creating innovation requires more than just the usual workspace. We believe that this outstanding campus will further inspire the research spirit we nurture at Infobip. Alpha Centauri represents the evolution of our first campus in Vodnjan, Pangea, which was an important turning point for the accelerated development of our business and development," adds Silvio Kutić.

All employees and guests of Alpha Centauri have the right to use all campus resources for free, and special attention is paid to a healthy diet, so fresh and balanced food is prepared daily through about 20 meals per week. For breakfast, lunch, and healthy snacks, groceries are procured from local family farms.

Infobip Alpha Centauri is one of the most modern office buildings in this part of Europe. The campus covers an area of about 20,000 square meters. Currently, about 8 thousand m2 are used, while some land is left to construct the same or similar facility in the future. The campus was built by 35 companies, and over 1,700 individual tasks had to be completed. More than 1,200 drafts were made, and 5,000 photographs were taken. The design itself took a year and three months, and the construction process took a year and nine months until the use permit.

Spaces for socializing with employees are an essential aspect of the campus, so the rooftop garden and terrace cover 1,700 m2, with 100 seats in a green environment. The use of glass as a material for the structural facade resulted in significant natural light in the central space and atrium.

The campus follows global trends, so great emphasis is placed on green details and sustainability. The campus building itself is A + energy class, and the surrounding groundwater is used for cooling and heating the working premises, which results in lower electricity consumption. A ‘green façade’ surrounds the outer element of the campus and provides more sun in winter and protection from too much sun in summer.

Croatian Infobip Teams Up With Giant German Operator Vodafone

April the 1st, 2022 - The quite remarkable Vodnjan-based company Infobip has come on leaps and bounds since its creation, making a name for itself on a global scale. The Croatian Infobip company now has a new impressive move under its belt, in the form of a partnership with the German giant, Vodafone.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, the impressive Croatian Infobip company has announced a partnership with one of the largest mobile network operators in Germany, Vodafone, to provide mobile security for potentially 62 million smartphone users across the country. Vodafone has been well known for a great many years now by mobile phone users from not only Germany but from across Europe, and this latest move is sure to put Infobip even more firmly on the tech map than it already is.

Vodafone is joining Deutsche Telekom in enabling Infobip's Mobile Identity mobile authentication solution, which will be available to business customers in the banking, retail and public sectors.

According to ICT Business, the rise in fraud over the past two years has shown a critical need for companies to invest in better security. While two-factor authentication (2FA) via email, SMS or push notifications ensures that a company can verify who a person actually is, it comes at the cost of users having to change authentication channels, disrupting the overall user experience and making things sometimes more complicated than they need to be from an end user perspective.

Using the Croatian Infobip company's Mobile Identity solution, companies will be able to easily verify precisely who their customers are by their mobile phone number at every stage of their journey, from account activation and set up to payment and application download. All of this happens safely and quietly in the background, without the need for the user to enter a verification code.

Croatian Company Infobip Stops Working With Sanctioned Russian Firms

March the 12th, 2022 - The remarkable Vodnjan-based Croatian company Infobip, which has made quite the name for itself not only here in Croatia but across the rest of Europe and indeed the world, has suspended its operations in Russia following that country's unjustified invasion of neighbouring Ukraine a couple of weeks ago.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, the well known Croatian company Infobip has offices in both Ukraine and Russia, which are now two countries at war. In Russia, they have offices in Moscow and St. Petersburg, where they employ about 200 people.

They issued a statement on Wednesday given the escalation of the conflict in which Ukraine continues to suffer horrendous attacks from hostile Russian aggressors.

"We are appalled by the suffering and humanitarian catastrophe taking place in Ukraine and our hearts are with all those affected by these horrific events," they wrote from the Croatian company Infobip.

They noted that they have been closely monitoring the unfolding situation from the very beginning in order to help their people as much as they can and attempt to ensure uninterrupted business.

"We stand by our people"

''During this time of destructive violence and destruction, we are witnessing courage, solidarity and an unsurpassed desire for peaceful solutions. All of our efforts have been focused on the safety of our colleagues in Ukraine, as well as the safety of their families and their friends. We first supported them by assisting in the evacuation and providing accommodation here in the Republic of Croatia or in other parts of the world, thus providing them with financial, physical and emotional security,'' they said in a statement.

"We are always committed to all our colleagues wherever they are in the world. This includes our employees in Russia, whose lives have also been negatively affected by the consequences of recent events,'' they added.

"We'd like to thank all the Bippers (Infobip employees) who offered up their homes as shelters and donated to the Infobip Foundation for Humanitarian Aid in Ukraine. Infobip will triple each donation made by the Foundation's employees to try to help alleviate some of this unimaginable suffering, '' the statement said.

Infobip's business in Russia has now been suspended.

"We have restricted our business operations in Russia and suspended business with companies under sanctions," they stated from the Croatian company Infobip, adding that they are closely monitoring the situation as we go forward.

"We hope for an end to this war as soon as possible and for the restoration of peace in Ukraine," they concluded from Infobip.

Croatian Company Saponia Digitising Business With Infobip's Help

December the 28th, 2021 - The Croatian company Saponia, which is headquartered in the Eastern Croatian city of Osijek is on its way down a new digital path, aided by no less than the Vodnjan-based giant Infobip.

As Poslovni Dnevnik/Lucija Spiljak writes, Osijek's Saponia will additionally focus its business on digitalisation and ongoing digital transformation, through a programmable communication platform that it will "build" in cooperation with the impressive Infobip, the first Croatian unicorn, as was reported on the official website of the Zagreb Stock Exchange where a letter of intent was also published.

Their collaboration includes multi-channel communication access to consumers on Viber, WhatsApp, Email, SMS and social media platforms. Thus, as they claim from the Croatian company Saponia, they want to improve the quality of their communication infrastructure with their consumers and customers, with whom they will communicate about key information and answer questions more quickly and efficiently through the aforementioned channels.

According to the Croatian company Saponia, Infobip was the ideal partner in the implementation of the communication cloud platform, given that they are among the leaders in the world in multichannel communication.

“Saponia's decision to cooperate with Infobip as a leading IT company came about due to the fact that the growth and development of our company is influenced by the speed and quality of information transfer to consumers. We believe that Infobip can be our long-term partner that will ensure the fast and personalised transfer of information through popular channels. Through their communication platform, we'll be able to place greater emphasis on sustainable solutions in hygiene and cleanliness of the home, educating consumers on how to properly use our funds for maximum performance and ensure a minimal impact on the environment,'' said Saponia's marketing director Tihana Kostenko.

This is an important move for a company that has been operating for 130 years in the production and sale of detergents and toiletries in Osijek, and the first step in the process of cooperation between Saponia and Infobip was made at a meeting of representatives of both companies, where they jointly defined the goals of their new communication strategy, after which several initial workshops were held.

“Adaptation to consumers is the foundation of Saponia's business philosophy. With a quality product, our intention is to provide our customers with all of the relevant information, answer all of their questions immediately and provide proper solutions We're absolutely sure that Infobip, as a global leader in multichannel communication, can enable us to provide our consumers with unique moments of connecting with well-known brands,'' said the President of the Management Board of Saponia, Diana Mrcela.

There were no additional comments from Infobip on this collaboration, and the process of implementing programmable communication is related to new projects that Saponia plans to implement next year.

"It's important for both Saponia and Infobip to create quality content that will attract new generations of consumers by providing them with all the necessary information in the shortest possible time," concluded Tihana Kostenko.

Half a Billion Dollar Infobip Investment Pushes Vodnjan Company Further

December the 3rd, 2021 - After becoming the very first Croatian unicorn last year as a domestic IT company that exceeded $1 billion in value, this year has been equally dynamic for Infobip. An Infobip investment is also pushing them closer and closer to another big goal.

As Poslovni Dnevnik/VL/Zoran Vitas writes, a few weeks ago, the Vodnjan giant took over another American company, Peerless Network, a global provider of Voice over IP services, and then achieved a $500 million loan where Morgan Stanley was the chief financial advisor.

An Infobip investment of half a million US dollars was announced by Silvio Kutic, the company's director, back in May, which he said was a precondition for the company's first public offering of shares across the Atlantic in the United States.

“The $500 million loan financing, on extremely favourable terms, has classified Infobip among a group of high-growth, high-value technology companies that have used a similar form of financing. Part of the amount was used to purchase Peerless Network, but the rest was used for other needs, organic growth and further acquisitions. The industry in which Infobip is located is accelerating and we're ready to move forward on that wave,'' Kutic told Vecernji list, adding that the company's goal is to develop towards the ''liquidity'' event, most likely through the IPO in New York, when all factors are met.

In May, Infobip also announced the acquisition of Irish IT company Anam Technologies, the world's leading SMS firewall service provider. This year, Infobip also launched the Startup Tribe programme aimed at finding and gathering the most innovative domestic and global startups and accelerating and monitoring their growth and development.

Today, the programme brings together more than 70 startups from across almost 40 countries. They can apply for amounts from $10,000 to $60,000, as the value of using Infobip’s communication technologies. Infobip will always point out that the company is its employees, and the latest piece of big news is about the launch of the ESOP (Employee Stock Option Plan), the allocation of option shares of the company to all current and future employees.

“We launched the Employee Option Shares (ESOP) model, which has a global application, back in 2017, modelled on Silicon Valley companies. We allocated 10% of the company's share, and then we started allocating options to individual employees who proved to be key to growth and business. This is now a new beginning for Infobip. As we extend ESOP to all current and future Infobip employees, the company’s success and their individual successes will be even more strongly linked. It's the employees who generate the growth of the company, and Infobip has grown so fast thanks to their talent, effort and dedicated work.

With this, the company wants to thank them, reward them and motivate them even more for an ambitious growth plan in the future. By working so well for the company, our employees will create value for themselves after a certain time,'' said Silvio Kutic.
