July 29, 2022 - The latest flight news to Croatia as KLM Croatia capacity has been boosted to Zagreb, Split, and Dubrovnik, Norwegian resumes its Zagreb route, and Trade Air pushes back operations until July 18. 

Dutch national airline KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has significantly increased its capacity to three Croatian airports in July - Zagreb, Split, and Dubrovnik, reports Croatian Aviation. 

KLM will continue to operate twice a day between Zagreb and Amsterdam in July, but there will be a significant increase in capacity. Namely, until now, E190 aircraft operated between the two cities, but now B737-700 and B737-800 aircraft will operate on two daily flights. Namely, E190 aircraft has a capacity of 100 seats, while Boeing family aircraft have 132 and 186 seats, respectively.

While the number of weekly operations between Zagreb and Amsterdam will remain the same, the number of weekly flights will increase to Dubrovnik Airport.

Namely, until now, KLM has operated on this route only on Saturdays and Sundays since the beginning of the summer flight schedule, but from the beginning of July, this line will be in daily traffic, also with B737-800 aircraft.

KLM already operates to Split on a daily basis, but on weekdays mainly with the Embraer fleet. From the beginning of July, B737-800 and B737-700 aircraft will operate between the two cities, and the number of daily flights will increase from one to two or even three daily flights.

The Dutch carrier will have six daily flights to three Croatian airports in July, offering a wide network of connections through its hub in Amsterdam.

Furthermore, Croatian Aviation reports that well-known low-cost airline Norwegian resumed traffic on the regular seasonal route between Copenhagen and Zagreb on June 25, which had been suspended since the 2019 summer flight schedule.

On this seasonal line, the only one on which Norwegian currently operates to Zagreb, two flights a week are available, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, until mid-August.

Namely, the last flight is planned for Saturday, August 13, so this airline will offer a total of 18 return flights between the two cities this summer, ie 6,048 seats in both directions on its B737-800 aircraft.

Interestingly, one A320 aircraft of the Croatian private airline, Trade Air, is currently leased for this well-known low-cost carrier, but it is based in Stockholm, so it is unlikely that it will fly to Zagreb Airport this summer under the Norwegian flight number.

On the regular route between Copenhagen and Zagreb, the Croatian national airline, Croatia Airlines, operates throughout the year, and in the summer flight schedule, Croatia also operates on the regular route between Copenhagen and Split, three times a week, every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday.

Although the competent Ministry announced that Croatia Airlines and Trade Air will operate on domestic PSO routes in the next four years, with operations on domestic routes at the beginning of July, this will not happen, reports Croatian Aviation. 

Trade Air announced on its official website that domestic PSO flights will not be established until July 18 this year. Namely, earlier on the carrier's website, there was information that flights are expected from this Friday, July 1, but that will not happen.

The new information states that Trade Air will re-establish PSO routes from July 18 this year, with sales open only from July 8, and that further information will be published on the official website and social networks of the airline.

As a reminder, this summer Trade Air should operate on the following routes:

Osijek - Zagreb - Osijek,

Osijek - Pula - Split - Pula - Osijek,

Osijek - Rijeka - Osijek,

Rijeka - Split - Dubrovnik - Split - Rijeka,

Osijek - Zadar - Osijek, and

Rijeka - Zadar - Rijeka.

The number of weekly frequencies remains the same as in the previous four-year period, except for the lines between Osijek and Zadar and Rijeka and Zadar, which will be in traffic once a week.

Although the number of weekly flights will remain the same, the capacity will increase significantly as the Saab340 aircraft with a capacity of 34 seats will operate on the routes instead of the Turbolet L410 (19-seat capacity).

March 14, 2022 -  The latest flight news to Croatia as KLM flights to Split and Dubrovnik resume from March 27, and two daily flights to Zagreb Airport continue. 

Dutch national airline KLM Dutch Airlines reintroduces regular seasonal lines to Split and Dubrovnik with the start of the summer flight schedule, which comes into force at the end of this month, reports Croatian Aviation.

While KLM will re-introduce regular flights from Amsterdam to Split and Dubrovnik from Sunday, March 27, the Dutch airline continues to operate twice a day to Zagreb Airport.

The first flight to Split Airport in this year's summer flight schedule has been announced for Sunday, March 27. Initially, two flights a week have been announced, every Saturday and Sunday. Before the Easter holiday, the airline is planning a number of operations, and from the end of April, KLM should operate daily between Split and Amsterdam. In the peak summer season, up to three daily flights between Amsterdam and Split of this airline are expected.

KLM will also resume traffic to Dubrovnik on the first day of the summer flight schedule, on the Amsterdam line that was reintroduced last season. Two flights a week have been announced, also on Saturdays and Sundays, and there should be an increase in weekly operations at the end of April. As was announced earlier, KLM should work up to twice a day between Dubrovnik and Amsterdam this summer.

Despite the increase in the number of operations to coastal airports last year and this year, KLM plans to continue with two daily flights to Zagreb but using mainly the Embraer fleet, which has a significantly lower capacity compared to Boeing. The Embraer and B737-700 fleets are planned on the lines to Croatia in March and April.

December 18, 2021 - The latest flight news to Croatia with two new Zadar Airport summer routes from Oslo and Lubeck, while KLM boosts Dubrovnik-Amsterdam next summer. 

Two foreign airlines have announced routes to Zadar Airport - from Oslo and Lubeck, reports Croatian Aviation.

Namely, Flyr and Lubeck Air have announced new routes to Zadar Airport for next year's summer flight schedule, directly connecting Zadar to Oslo and Lubeck.

The new Norwegian airline, Flyr, will connect Oslo and Zadar from April 9 to October 29 next year, twice a week, every Wednesday and Saturday. The B737-800 aircraft with a capacity of 180 seats have been announced on the route, and the line will operate from Gardermoen Airport in Oslo.

Lubeck Air will run a direct flight between Lubeck and Zadar from May 19 to October 27, 2022, once a week, on Thursdays. ATR75 aircraft have been announced on this route.

Furthermore, Croatian Aviation reports that Dutch airline KLM will introduce additional flights to Dubrovnik Airport next summer.

The world's oldest airline will soon officially announce the summer flight schedule, including news for the Croatian market. Namely, KLM will significantly increase the number of weekly operations between Amsterdam and Dubrovnik.

The Dubrovnik-Amsterdam line was introduced this summer, after a full 33 years, and flights between the two mentioned cities in the peak season ran daily.

Given the tremendous interest of passengers, KLM plans to operate between Dubrovnik and Amsterdam twice a day and 14 times a week next summer while maintaining two daily flights to Zagreb and as many as three daily flights to Split.

Next year, KLM will have 7 daily and 49 weekly flights to Croatia in the peak summer season. Given the quality of service and the vast network of destinations, and its central hub in Amsterdam, there is no doubt that the airline will bring a significant number of tourists to Croatian airports next summer.

KLM currently operates twice a day to Zagreb and will briefly launch a line between Split and Amsterdam around Christmas and New Year.

February 24, 2021 - While some airlines are pushing back the start of their summer flight schedules to Croatia, two airlines have stayed loyal to the country, even during the toughest times. A look at how Air France and KLM remain dominant in the Croatian market since the beginning of the pandemic. 

Croatian Aviation reports that following yesterday's article about airlines that have temporarily postponed traffic to Croatian airports, there are two that stand out that have regularly connected Zagreb with two European hubs since the outbreak of the global pandemic.

Before the pandemic, the Lufthansa group was dominant in Croatian airports. However, in March 2020, Lufthansa suspended traffic to Zagreb Airport, and in the summer flight schedule, it reduced traffic to airports on the coast. KLM and Air France operated to Zagreb in the summer of last year and to Split and Dubrovnik, while Lufthansa has not been in Zagreb for almost a year. Instead, Croatia Airlines operates on the route to Frankfurt, while the Croatian national airline also suspended the route to Munich in November.

On the other hand, Lufthansa announced that it would resume traffic to Zagreb from Munich and Frankfurt at the end of March, only to cancel all flights on the route to Munich again just a few days later until the beginning of May. It remains to be seen what will happen to the Frankfurt-Zagreb route, given that there is still a month left until the start of regular operations, enough for the company to cancel certain or almost all departures for a short period.

On the other hand, the KLM - Air France group did not miss the opportunity. At the end of 2020, KLM announced that it was introducing a second daily flight on the Amsterdam-Zagreb route in February, which was optimistic given the whole situation. Hence, flights are now available from the beginning of March.

The realization of these flights will occur, and KLM will have two daily flights to Zagreb from March 1. In the first week of March, KLM offers 10 direct flights a week, in the second and third 11, and as of March 22, there are 14 flights a week on this route! The company plans to have two flights a week to Zagreb until the end of October. The original plan was to operate daily flights with an E170 aircraft, while a larger capacity aircraft, the E190, is now available on certain flights.

Air France also plans to offer two daily flights between Paris and Zagreb this summer, but only from mid-May. While KLM will operate almost twice a day to Split, Air France will also operate to Split and Dubrovnik. There is also the low-cost carrier Transavia from the same group present at almost all Croatian airports last summer, and according to the current schedule, the same will be the case in the upcoming season.

The KLM - Air France Group has significantly increased its presence in Croatian airports in this crisis, which the Lufthansa Group has in some way made possible by an almost complete withdrawal from the Croatian market. Namely, there were only two Eurowings lines to Zagreb and one to Split (which did not operate all winter), while KLM briefly introduced the Amsterdam-Split line during the Christmas and New Year holidays. The question is whether the Lufthansa group will allow it; by all accounts, it seems that this is exactly what is happening at the moment.

For the end-users, us passengers, it is certainly good that these two groups have entered into a kind of "conflict" in our market. When both groups are launching several operations at Croatian airports (which will certainly happen at some point this summer season), companies will have to attract passengers to their routes and hubs at affordable prices. The only question is who will be more successful in this and whether we will travel to destinations in Europe and the world via Amsterdam and Paris or Frankfurt, Munich, Brussels, or Vienna.

September 23, 2020 - The latest news for flights to Croatia as Windrose reconnects Zagreb and Kyiv from October, and KLM continues to fly to Split and Zagreb next month. 

HRTurizam reports that Zagreb and Kyiv will soon be reconnected by a direct airline, according to Rajko Ruzicka, director of the Croatian National Tourist Board in Russia.

This is the announcement of a new Windrose airline flight, which should connect Kyiv and Zagreb twice a week from October 4, 2020, to March 24, 2021.

"Despite the global coronavirus pandemic and the overall reduction in tourist traffic in 2020, investments in the promotion of Croatia as a top tourist destination on the Ukrainian market have paid off. Charter flights from Kyiv to Pula, Split, and Dubrovnik, which operated this summer, have significantly increased the number of arrivals of Ukrainian tourists in Croatia," said Ruzicka, adding that a number of Ukrainian tourists arrived in Croatia this year by road.

Croatia realized about 230,000 overnight stays in August this year from Ukrainian tourists, which is about 80 percent of last year's result in August, and the favorite Croatian destinations of Ukrainians are Makarska Riviera, Porec, Rovinj, and Dubrovnik, where they usually stay in hotel accommodation.

Furthermore, Croatian Aviation reports that Dutch airline KLM has announced its flight schedule for October this year. Until the end of the summer flight schedule, the company will operate to two destinations in Croatia: Split and Zagreb.

The Dutch national company will continue to operate on its regular routes from Amsterdam to Zagreb and Split in October.

KLM's Amsterdam-Zagreb route was re-established on July 4 with three flights a week, every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and daily flights on this route are available from the beginning of August. The company operated on this line regularly, without canceling certain departures.

However, certain flights in October have already been canceled. From October 5 to 11, the company canceled flights on Tuesday and Thursday (October 6 and 8). From October 12 to the end of the month, the company offers daily flights between the two cities, but it remains to be seen whether it will cancel certain flights after mid-October, and the likelihood of this is high.

KLM's second route to Croatia, Amsterdam-Split, operated 12 to 14 times a week in August with larger capacity aircraft (B737-700, B737-800). In September, traffic was reduced to three flights per week (Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays), and KLM plans to keep the same number of weekly flights on this route in October as it did in September. The last flight on the route Amsterdam-Split has been announced for Saturday, October 24.

E190 aircraft with a capacity of 100 passengers have been announced on both KLM routes. It is expected that KLM will operate to Zagreb in the winter months with significantly fewer weekly flights compared to last year's winter flight schedule.

Given the close partnership between KLM and Air France, there is a possibility that one of the carriers will completely stop traffic to Zagreb this winter and redirect its passengers to a partner airline; such a decision will primarily depend on the booking status and travel restrictions between individual countries.

August 21, 2020 - The latest news from around Croatia’s airports for flights to Croatia with updates for Zagreb and Split.

Croatian Aviation reports that from August to October 2020, Dutch KLM offers flights to 92 European destinations. A look at the flight schedule for September to Croatian airports.

For comparison, in 2019, in the same period in August, KLM performed 19,000 flights, in September 18,800, and in October 14,700 flights. In August 2020, 10,000 flights are expected, in September 13,500, and in October 11,000 flights.

KLM will continue to operate on the Amsterdam-Zagreb route daily, and in September, and in addition to KLM's direct flights, Croatia Airlines also operates on this route, also every day of the week.

KLM's other destination in Croatia is Split Airport, where this Dutch company currently has 12 flights a week (two flights a day every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday, and one flight a day on Fridays and Saturdays).

From September 1, KLM will significantly reduce the number of weekly flights on the route Amsterdam-Split and will operate only three times a week, on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays through September, with smaller capacity aircraft - E190.

Furthermore, Norwegian Air will not return to Zagreb Airport this year.

Norwegian Air, a well-known low-budget company with bases across Europe, will not return to Zagreb Airport this year. The company operated on the Copenhagen-Zagreb route in the summer flight schedule, but it was completely canceled for this year.

The line used to be year-round, but the company turned it into a seasonal line at the end of 2018. Now, due to the coronavirus crisis, it will cancel it completely for this year.

Norwegian Air operated from Stockholm to Zagreb twice a week, but that line was previously suspended and is no longer in operation.

The Copenhagen-Zagreb line was operated twice a week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, in the summer flight schedule. It is not yet certain whether Norwegian will return to Zagreb in the summer flight schedule in 2021, given that many routes have not yet been announced for next year.

On the Copenhagen-Zagreb route, Croatia Airlines operates, every day of the week, on the A319 and DashQ400 aircraft.
