Lufthansa Munich-Zagreb Line Delayed Until May

January 12, 2022 - The latest flight news to Croatia as the Lufthansa Munich-Zagreb line is delayed until the beginning of May.

Star Alliance group member Lufthansa has postponed the start of the Munich-Zagreb line until May this year, reports Croatian Aviation.

Although the flights were previously planned from the first day of the summer flight schedule (the beginning of April), Lufthansa has now extended the first flights on this route by a month to the beginning of May.

Namely, as of May 2, 2022, the Lufthansa Munich-Zagreb line, on which A319 aircraft has been announced, will depart before noon from Munich, with an early afternoon departure from Zagreb.

Croatian Aviation has learned that meetings will be held within the company in the coming days on the destination network from Munich.

As it is a feeding line, its traffic in the upcoming summer season will depend on long-haul or overseas lines from or to Munich.

If Lufthansa decides to keep most flights from its central hub, Frankfurt, flights between Munich and Zagreb will likely be canceled this summer as well.

The Croatian national airline, Croatia Airlines, also operates between Munich and Zagreb. By the end of January, as many as ten flights a week were announced on DashQ400 aircraft with a capacity of 76 seats. As Lufthansa and Croatia Airlines have signed a code-share agreement for this route, scheduled flights are available to passengers of both airlines.

Recall, Croatian Aviation reported that Lufthansa would increase the number of weekly rotations between Frankfurt and Rijeka in the upcoming summer flight schedule.

Lufthansa has operated a regular flight between Munich and Rijeka for many years. In 2021, Lufthansa also introduced a regular line between Frankfurt and Rijeka, which was also in operation every Saturday.

Instead of one weekly flight, Lufthansa will operate twice a week between Frankfurt and Rijeka this year. The line should start working on Saturday, April 9, and the second weekly flight will be introduced on Wednesday, May 25. Flights on Wednesdays will run in the evening, and on Saturdays in the morning. This will give passengers to and from Kvarner more flexibility when planning a trip, which was practically impossible with one flight a week.

A320 aircraft with a capacity of 168 seats have been announced for the summer of 2022.

German Condor will also operate between Frankfurt and Rijeka in the upcoming summer season, once a week, also on Saturdays, between May 21 and September 24. Thus, Rijeka will be connected to this famous European hub with three flights a week.

Between Munich and Rijeka, Lufthansa should operate once a week this summer, and Croatia Airlines is expected to launch three-weekly flights on this route.

10 Weekly Lufthansa Zagreb Flights Announced in January

December 10, 2021 - The latest flight news to Croatia as 10 weekly Lufthansa Zagreb flights will operate in January.

German national airline Lufthansa will operate in January 2022 between Frankfurt and Zagreb 10 times a week, connecting Zagreb with the rest of Europe and the world through its largest hub, reports Croatian Aviation.

Regular flights between Frankfurt and Zagreb will thus continue in the part of the year when passenger demand is already very low, especially now, during the global pandemic.

Lufthansa no longer operates on its second line to Zagreb, from Munich, which has been suspended for a long time due to COVID-19. Lufthansa plans to renew this line on the first day of the summer flight schedule next year (March 27, 2022), but it remains to be seen whether there will be any operational changes on the route. Zagreb is still connected to Munich by Croatia Airlines, which operates to Munich on the routes from Split and Osijek.

In January, the German airline will operate between Frankfurt and Zagreb 10 times a week, with two daily flights available on Mondays, Saturdays and Sundays, while one flight is announced on other days.

A319 aircraft with a capacity of 138 seats will operate on the route. It is one of the most common aircraft in the European sky and is 33 meters long. The maximum cruising altitude of this aircraft is 11,800 meters, the top speed is 840 km / h, and the range is 3,400 kilometers.

Croatia Airlines also operates between Zagreb and Frankfurt, offering an additional two to four daily flights, meaning Zagreb is very well connected to Frankfurt at any time of the day, a hub from which it is possible to make transfers to several destinations in Europe and the world.

From January to the end of October this year, almost 19.2 million passengers passed through this hub, and in October alone, 3.3 million.

According to Eurocontrol, in the 48th week of this year (November 29-December 5), Frankfurt Airport holds second place on the list of busiest airports (first place is Amsterdam, third Paris CDG) with a total of 939 daily landings or takeoffs.

11 Weekly Lufthansa Flights to Zagreb from Frankurt in November

November 3, 2021 - Things are looking good in the capital this offseason, as there will be 11 weekly Lufthansa flights to Zagreb from Germany in November, and Air France will increase capacity to the capital from December 1!

German national airline Lufthansa will operate 11 times a week between Frankfurt and Zagreb this month, reports Croatian Aviation

Namely, Lufthansa will operate between Zagreb and Frankfurt daily, on certain days, and twice a week. The Munich-Zagreb line is still suspended, and at this moment Lufthansa may only re-establish this line in the summer flight schedule next year.

Although Lufthansa operated twice a day between Frankfurt and Zagreb before the pandemic, the flight schedule was reduced in line with lower demand. However, in the continuation of this month, Lufthansa will work daily to Zagreb, and two flights a day are available on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

Aircraft from the A320 family was announced on all flights this month, mainly A319 with a capacity of 138 seats, which is a significant increase compared to CRJ900 aircraft that previously operated on this route that has a capacity of 90 seats.

Croatia Airlines operates three flights a day between Zagreb and Frankfurt, which also has a codeshare contract with Lufthansa on these flights.

For example, Croatian Aviation writes that on November 13, Croatia Airlines has departures from Zagreb to Frankfurt at 06:45, 09:10, and 17:50, while Lufthansa has departures at 06:20 and 15:05. Thus, the difference between the two morning departures is only 25 minutes, meaning some work needs to be put into the flight schedule.

Zagreb has the largest number of seats on a weekly basis to Frankfurt, so a relatively large number of passengers decide to use this line to make connections to their final destinations in Europe and the world via Frankfurt, mainly on Lufthansa flights but also other partners from the Star Alliance Group that regularly operate to Germany's largest airport.

Furthermore, Croatian Aviation reports that French national airline Air France has maintained daily flights between Paris and Zagreb with the start of the winter flight schedule, and from the first day of December, they are sending higher-capacity aircraft to Zagreb.

Air France was scheduled to increase the number of weekly flights between Zagreb and Paris in March 2020, introducing an additional, second daily flight. This did not happen due to the pandemic, but in the end, it was done by the partner of the French airline - Dutch KLM, which will continue to operate twice a day to Zagreb this winter.

However, KLM has reduced its capacity on the Zagreb route so that E170 and E190 aircraft (88 and 100 seats, respectively) now fly to Zagreb, instead of B737-700 and B737-800 aircraft (142 and 186 seats, respectively).

Air France is therefore increasing its capacity to Zagreb, so instead of E190 and E170 aircraft that flew to the Croatian capital all summer, A318 aircraft with a capacity of 131 seats will operate in the winter flight schedule between Zagreb and Paris. On certain dates with higher bookings, the carrier will use A319 and A320 aircraft. Only twice a week does Air France plan to use smaller E170 aircraft.

Despite the fact that Lufthansa has increased its capacity on the route to Frankfurt, the Air France - KLM group will offer a significantly higher number of connections to passengers to and from Zagreb through its hubs in Amsterdam and Paris, so probably more passengers will use the services of these two airlines.

Croatia Airlines also operates daily on this route with A319 and A320 aircraft, while Ryanair connects Zagreb and Beauvais twice a week.

Flights to Croatia: Lufthansa Plans Zagreb Routes from Frankfurt and Munich in March

February 9, 2021 - The latest news for flights to Croatia as Lufthansa plans Zagreb routes from Frankfurt and Munich in March.

Croatian Aviation reports that Lufthansa plans to resume traffic on two routes from Germany to Zagreb Airport.

Namely, Lufthansa intends to resume traffic to Zagreb Airport from March 1. Recall that Lufthansa suspended traffic on the Frankfurt - Zagreb - Frankfurt route during the global pandemic and has not operated on it since March 2020.

However, as of March 1, the airline plans to resume traffic on that line. The second Lufthansa line, between Munich and Zagreb, was also suspended in October 2020, and there has been no direct connection between the two cities since.

The airline intends to resume traffic on the routes from Frankfurt and Munich from March 1, 2021, with the caveat that the cancellation of certain flights may occur due to low demand caused by strict epidemiological measures.

The Frankfurt - Zagreb - Frankfurt route will operate daily until the end of March (with an early afternoon departure from Zagreb), and smaller-capacity aircraft. The Canadair Regional Jet 900 has been announced on the route, with a capacity of 90 seats.

Traffic on the Munich - Zagreb - Munich line is also being re-established. This route should also operate daily until the end of March, with the same type of aircraft as on the route from/to Frankfurt, and an increase in the number of weekly flights on both routes is expected from the beginning of the summer flight schedule (end of March).

Lufthansa is a carrier that has flown to Zagreb Airport for more than 50 years, and given that 2020 was the worst year in aviation history, it was not too much of a surprise that the airline temporarily withdrew routes to Zagreb Airport.

Lufthansa will certainly have a good result on the routes to Zagreb in the spring and summer, while in March, there may still be cancellations due to the ongoing COVID-19 epidemic.
