Plodine Opens 87th Store in Croatia, Employs Around 50 People

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes on the 18th of July, 2019, in Istria's Tar-Vabriga Municipality, 87th Plodine store has now been opened. Having listened to the needs of the local population, as well as tourists during the tourist season, Istria received its 15th modern Plodine supermarket.

The investment value of 5 million euros provided for the construction of a brand new Plodine sales facility according to the highest trading standards. Stretching across 2,000 m2, this Plodine store is modern and boasts functionally decorated interiors with a modern cafe bar, there's also new, high quality equipment that will provide customers with an enjoyable shopping experience.

The concept of this sales space is designed so that the customer can quickly and easily find everything they might need when shopping, and be able to purchase food and other things all in once place. There will be 150 parking spaces available to Plodine's customers, and the shop and sanitary areas are fully adapted to people with disabilities, as well as to parents with young children.

With this investment, Plodine also aided the local economy by opening up new jobs and employing as many as fifty new workers, and this figure is expected to grow during the summer season to ensure the best quality of service for residents and tourists. The new store's food products are represented through a range of very well-known brands, domestic products, and branded products from Plodine. Particular attention has been placed on the so-called fresh departments: a green market department that offers a wide variety of seasonal fruit and vegetable products, as well as freshly baked good every day.

The standard in Plodine supermarkets is a self-service bakery that offers fresh and hot baked products throughout the whole day, while other fresh departments are supplied with products of proven origin and tested quality.

The remainder of the range is made up of non-food items, and all that is needed for a single household can be found there: from small household appliances, to high quality textiles to electrical appliances and tools, as well as a rich array of toys and other baby equipment. A large number of Croatian and foreign manufacturers' products are available at affordable and competitive prices, and many of them are part of weekly deals in regular and custom Plodine catalogs.

On the day of opening, all visitors were able enjoy samples of truffles, as well as various tastings and gifts that Plodine prepared to celebrate the opening of the store with their customers. Throughout the week, customers will be able to shop at very reasonable prices. The Tar-Vabriga Plodine Supermarket will serve its customers every day from 07:00 to 23:00.

Croatian Market: Plodine Interested in Purchasing Konzum?

Ever since the Agrokor crisis threatened to sink the domestic economy, the Croatian market has been a rocky one, but despite that, Konzum is back on its feet and is even attracting purchasing potential.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes on the 7th of December, 2018, Milo Ćurković, the owner and CEO of the popular shopping chain, Plodine, said that although he doesn't believe we that Plodine are the only interested party, he believes that they would be the most ready to take over Konzum.

In terms of revenue and income, Plodine is by far largest company in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, and when it comes to the top-list of retail chains in Croatia, they're in third place, with a share of between 10 and 20 percent, just like both Lidl and Kaufland, while the almighty Konzum is still gripping onto first place, according to a report from Novi list.

"The crisis in Agrokor was dangerous for the entire economy, however, everything was fine in the sense that the taxpayers didn't have to bear the consequences of it, and that's what is most important," said Ćurković for Novi list, revealing that Plodine is very much interested in purchasing Konzum.

''We absolutely are. The question is, of course, what the [Agrokor's] new owners will do. The new owners are bankers, creditors, and my estimate is that for the bank, this isn't their main business, so, as soon as the company is consolidated, they'll sell that part of the business, which we're ready for and want. I think the entire consolidation process will last two to three years, and we'll be further prepared in that period so that we're fully prepared for that potential acquisition at the right time. This will be the most interesting acquisition for all of us in this sector.

We're waiting to see how the situation in Agrokor will turn out. I don't believe that we're the only ones interested [in purchasing Konzum], but I believe that we're the most ready for the takeover of Konzum. This isn't just about finances. You have to be ready for personnel, organisational, logistical matters, and we've fulfilled those conditions,'' said Ćurković, adding that anyone who succeeds in buying Konzum will definitely be the main player on the Croatian retail market and that nobody would be able to do better.

"Our goal is to be the main player on the Croatian market," concluded Ćurković.
