March 10, 2021 - Czech railway RegioJet has started selling train tickets from Prague to Rijeka and Split!

HRTurizam reports that the summer railway line that connected Prague and Rijeka last tourist season attracted great interest from Czech and Slovak tourists. The average train occupancy was higher than 90%, with a capacity of almost 600 passengers per line, while trains carried a total of more than 60,000 passengers in both directions.

Following such success, the Czech RegioJet, a private provider of rail and bus passenger transport, has announced the pre-sale of tickets for this season. This year, in addition to Rijeka, Prague will be connected to Split.

RegioJet's trains will run on their route from Prague via Bratislava to Budapest and Zagreb and Rijeka and Split.

Trains will depart on May 28 and run until September 27, with the arrival in Croatia daily in July and August, and three times a week in May, June, and September.

In combination with bus transport from Rijeka and Split, RegioJet promotes and offers arrivals to as many as 56 destinations in Croatia.

Departures from Prague / Bratislava are on Fridays, Sundays, and Tuesdays and back from Croatia on Saturdays, Mondays, and Wednesdays. Passengers in Rijeka, Gračac, and Split will be met by buses that will continue to reach all destinations on the coast.

Last year, buses from Rijeka enabled passengers to transfer to the following destinations: Opatija, Rabac, Medulin, Pula, Rovinj, Poreč, Novigrad, Malinska, Šilo, Vrbnik, Krk, Baška, Crikvenica, Novi Vinodolski, Zadar, Sukošan, Biograd, Pakoštane, Omiš, Brela, Baška Voda, Makarska, Podgora, Podaca, Gradac, Šibenik, Primošten, Trogir and Split. This year, due to the new railway line to Split, new destinations will be added, and bus travel to new destinations will continue. RegioJet also offers the option to continue traveling to BiH and Montenegro.

Explaining what the RegioJet train route will look like this year, Aleš Ondruj, spokesman for RegioJet, said that the train would be divided into two parts in Ogulin - a part that goes to Rijeka and a part that goes to Split.

The train will be separated so that seven passenger cars will go to Rijeka and eight across Gračac to Split. Upon return, the trains will be reconnected into one in Ogulin and continue further to Prague, Ondruj explained, emphasizing that the total capacity of trains should reach as many as 650 passengers per train, i.e., 15 cars.

The train will offer a free breakfast included in the ticket price, internet connection, and bicycle transport will be available. You can also book the entire compartment for four people for the price of three.

This year, RegioJet also offers a complete product with the possibility of booking accommodation at certain hotels in Poreč, Crikvenica, the island of Krk, Makarska, and more. 

Last year, most passengers traveled from the Czech Republic, while 10 percent of tickets were sold in Slovakia.

February the 4th, 2021 - RegioJet has announced a direct train line from the Czech capital of Prague to the Northern Adriatic city of Rijeka, and even further down to Split in Central Dalmatia.

As Poslovni Dnevnik/Sergej Novosel Vuckovic writes, if Croatia's tourist authorities and workers are still somehow in two minds about what kind of visitors we should encourage in order to save the summer season this year, the answer is already coming from the Czech Republic - by train. The local railway company RegioJet has announced that it will continue to directly connect Prague with the Adriatic, a route which it introduced last summer, but with an important twist - in addition to Rijeka, the company's trains will run down to Dalmatia, more precisely to Split.

According to the Czech portal Zdopravy, RegioJet will connect the Czech capital and the Dalmatian city by train for the first time since way back in 2009 - the starting point is Prague and after Zagreb the first station in Croatia is Ogulin, from where trains will split - one will continue to Rijeka and the other will go to Split. From there, there are buses available that can drive further, even to neighbouring countries such as Montenegro or Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The timetable hasn't changed when compared to last year, when from July the 1st, Czech (and even Slovak tourists) filled almost every train in order to reach their favourite Croatian shores. Departure is at 17:00 from Prague, then from Brno and Bratislava, it arrives in Rijeka in the early morning the next day, and in Split early in the afternoon the same day.

RegioJet's Prague-Rijeka-Split line will operate every day during the two main summer months (July and August), and in June and September it will be offered three times a week - on Fridays, Sundays and Tuesdays.

RegioJet is already advertising a new service on its website, emphasising, with a red heart and the Croatian flag, that one can go to Split without the need for any transfers and that "a holiday by the sea has never been so easy".

The pre-sale of tickets starts this month, prices will be the same as last year, ie 590 Czech korunas for a one-way ticket in a compartment and 790 for the same journey but with sleeping arrangements included. The composition should consist of 15 wagons for a total of more than 650 seats, and the ticket price includes breakfast, WiFi access, bicycle transport, with the possibility to book the whole coupe for four people for the price of three.

"We're glad that we can lead people to positive ideas related to summer and a great summer holiday in Croatia," said Radim Jancura, the owner of RegioJet, as reported by the aforementioned Czech portal.

Last year, RegioJet transported more than 60,000 passengers in both directions in this way, ensuring that they could go to the Croatian coast relatively easily and without obstacles and border controls due to the pandemic. Only a negative coronavirus test is needed. The average occupancy of the lines was 90 percent, and it isn't unbelievable that this score will be exceeded this year.

In addition to coastal destinations, RegioJet will also offer direct connections to Zagreb from the summer, and will also bring guests from the Hungarian capital of Budapest to Croatia. For Czech tourists, rail transport also makes it easier to search for accommodation, offering half-board arrangements in some hotels, thanks to cooperation with agencies and tour operators.

September 26, 2020 - The Prague-Rijeka route became RegioJet's most successful new line, carrying over 60,000 passengers in both directions!

HRTurizam reports that on Saturday, September 26, the last run of the RegioJet summer railway line from Prague, Brno and Bratislava to Rijeka will start from the Rijeka railway station, ending the first season of the direct railway line from the Czech Republic and Slovakia to the Croatian coast. 

All lines ran as planned, operating every day in July and August, and three times a week in September. The average train occupancy was higher than 90%, with a capacity of almost 600 passengers per line, while trains carried a total of more than 60,000 passengers in both directions.

The mentioned line became the most successful new route of RegioJet, which passed through five countries during its operation. Thanks to the close cooperation with the carriers HŽ (Croatian Railways) and SŽ (Slovenian Railways) and thanks to the cooperation with the embassies of Croatia and Slovenia in Prague and with the Croatian National Tourist Board, the train on the Prague - Brno - Bratislava - Ljubljana - Rijeka route and back is prepared for six weeks, points out the Croatian National Tourist Board.

"Demand is a record and the highest in the history of our company, which is why we decided to operate on this route every day until the end of August, and not just three times a week as originally planned. The line will remain in 2021 as well," said Radima Jančure, CEO of RegioJet, when the first train arrived in Rijeka (July 1).

Most of the lines from Prague to Rijeka were completely sold out, and about half of the passengers used connecting buses in Rijeka, which transported passengers to about thirty of the most popular holiday destinations on the Adriatic coast.

As pointed out by RegioJet, buses from Rijeka enabled passengers to transfer to some of the following destinations: Opatija, Rabac, Medulin, Pula, Rovinj, Poreč, Novigrad, Malinska, Šilo, Vrbnik, Krk, Baška, Crikvenica, Novi Vinodolski, Zadar, Sukosan, Biograd, Pakostane, Omis, Brela, Baska Voda, Makarska, Podgora, Podaca, Gradac, Sibenik, Primosten, Trogir and Split.

According to the CNTB, there was also great interest in package deals at sea with two nights and half board at a particularly low price, including transport and all services, which RegioJet sold about a thousand.

Also, the same line is a great solution for Austrians who want to go on holiday to Croatia because they can take the RegioJet bus from Vienna to Bratislava, as well as Germans from the Dresden area who can get to Prague and then by train to Croatia.

Most passengers traveled from the Czech Republic, while approximately 10 percent of tickets were sold in Slovakia.

Due to the great interest in traveling by RegioJet trains to Croatia, this company has already started preparing the railway line for next year, and according to the current plan, traffic will start again from May 2021.

Ticket prices ranged from 22 euro for seats and from 30 euro for a place in a sleeping car, and the price includes a reservation, coffee, breakfast, and free WIFI. An interesting comparison with HŽ, in terms of service, price and comfort.
