Statistics See Pula Declared Among Best Croatian Cities Again

As Glas Istre writes on the 4th of December, 2019, based on a survey conducted by the gradonačelnik.hr portal regarding the latest data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) on population movement, in absolute numbers, Pula was the most attractive city in 2018 for life in all of Croatia (Zagreb was left outside of this particular competition).

Namely, during 2018, 319 more people moved to the popular Istrian city of Pula than left, and owing to that, it is the first in absolute numbers (the first is Novalja in terms of percentages) in front of Samobor, Solin and Varaždin.

In total, from 2011 to 2018, Pula ranks ninth with a population increase of 538, with Dubrovnik being the first with an increase of 1,799 people. In the same period, Zagreb has been made richer by a further 20,000 people.

"Pula is first and foremost a safe and peaceful city where everyone is welcomed. With a harmonious coexistence, respect for diversity and tolerance among people, this is precisely why we're recognised and this sets us apart from the rest in some way.

This is largely due to the systematic and thoughtful work and all the measures we take to provide our fellow citizens with the highest standard and quality of life.

With safety, a comfortable climate and excellent transport links, one of the key criteria when choosing a city to settle down and start a family in for young people is job opportunities. In this respect, we've made a significant step forward in Pula, as the unemployment rate is decreasing year by year.

Pula is today, along with Zagreb, the city with the most entrepreneurs in terms of the working age population, and has recently been declared the most economically successful city in all of Croatia. The numerous incentive measures that we have continually enable our entrepreneurs, and they are the key when it comes to creating a favourable and motivating entrepreneurial environment,'' said Pula Mayor Boris Miletić.

Electric Bikes in Pula Popular With Tourists from Croatia and Abroad

As Glas Istre/Mirjana Vermezovic Ivanovic writes on the 6th of August, 2019, there are exactly 29 electric bicycles available in Pula and they are located at the bus station, Giardini, Narodni trg, opposite the entry ramp at Verudela, at the Stoja turnstile, and at Zlatne stijene. It's possible to use the electric bikes for one hundred kuna for an entire week.

In accordance with its ecological orientation, as part of the ''Bicikleta'' project, the City of Pula has placed electric bicycles in strategic positions across Pula that can be used by both citizens and tourists at their will. They can be found at the above-mentioned locations.

It is part of a commendable initiative introduced back in 2015 and offers the ecological opportunity to transport people to their desired destinations quickly, in an environmentally friendly way, without waiting, sweating, anguish and dependence on parking spaces, roads, traffic and public transport. In addition to contributing to a healthier type of lifestyle, this mode of transport also contributes to the green image of Pula.

However, many of Pula's citizens have complained that there were never any electric bicycles available in any of the locations mentioned previously.

Therefore, local portal Glas Istre asked the City of Pula questions about what the driving conditions were, who was using the city bikes and if there is any abuse of the system. Pula's city administration took care to remind us of the fact that when the city was at the very beginning of project, when the use of the electric bikes was free, individuals abused this opportunity and practically appropriated the city bikes, constantly using them for their own various needs. After that, cards were introduced, so the user, with a one-off payment of one hundred kuna, could use bicycles indefinitely throughout the year.

In order to rent one of these electric bikes today, it is necessary to purchase a rental code via a smartphone using a special application (app). After making the payment, the user receives a code and can use a bicycle. More details are available at the bike stops, where there are also bicycle charging stations. When parked, these vehicles automatically charge.
