November 16, 2020 - The latest news for flights to Croatia as SAS plans Copenhagen - Zadar next summer.
Croatian Aviation reports that SAS Scandinavian Airlines plans to introduce a new route to Croatia next summer.
Namely, it is a line between Copenhagen and Zadar, which was originally supposed to operate this summer, but due to the global coronavirus pandemic, the airline gave up on its launch.
SAS has now announced this new route for the summer of 2021. It should be in operation from the end of June to mid-August, very short compared to other lines of this airline that operate to Croatia mainly from April to the end of September.
The Copenhagen - Zadar route will operate twice a week, every Tuesday and Saturday, on CRJ900 aircraft with a capacity of 90 seats in this carrier's fleet.
Next summer, SAS plans to operate to Pula, Split, and Dubrovnik from numerous Scandinavian cities (Copenhagen, Oslo, Stavanger, Gothenburg, Stockholm, Aarhus, Bergen, and Kristiansand), but the realization of flights will primarily depend on the epidemiological situation and demand.
It is important that SAS's summer flight schedule for next year maintained all routes to Croatia from the summer season of 2019, estimating at this time that next summer season, the demand for Croatia will be significantly better than this year.
Like all other airlines, SAS also records a significant decline in passengers and revenue. The occupancy of Scandinavian Airlines aircraft was 50.6% in July, 46.7% in August, only 35.8% in September, and 37.3% in October.
This summer, SAS had reduced traffic to Pula and Split, while there were no regular lines to Dubrovnik. Pula had a direct connection with Copenhagen, while Split had four lines; to Stockholm, Copenhagen, Oslo, and Gothenburg.

May 27, 2020 - The latest news from around Croatia’s airports for flights to Croatia with updates from Zagreb and Zadar.
On May 25, Croatia Airlines launched regular flights from Zagreb to Amsterdam, which is currently the only EU destination the national carrier is flying to, along with Frankfurt, which was maintained during the coronavirus pandemic.
Flight OU450 to Amsterdam from Zagreb departs every day at 8:20, while the departure from Amsterdam to Zagreb OU451 is scheduled for 11:35.
Avio Radar announced that from June 1, Croatia Airlines would also start flying to Copenhagen with five flights per week, after which it will operate daily (from June 8).
Flight OU480 to Copenhagen from Zagreb departs every day at 8:10, while the departure from Copenhagen to Zagreb OU481 is scheduled for 11:20.
The A319/320 and DASH 8-Q400 aircraft will be exchanged on this route, depending on the demand.
With the planned opening of borders, announced for June 15, we should expect more direct flights to other destinations. The airline will also resume nonstop flights from Split to Frankfurt on May 29.
Ex Yu Aviation reports that SAS Scandinavian Airlines has canceled its new seasonal service from Copenhagen to Zadar because of the coronavirus pandemic. The new flight was meant to begin on June 30 and was meant to run twice a week.
Recall, we recently reported that Ukrainian airline Windrose announced a new planned start of operations on the Kyiv-Zagreb route.
The line has not existed so far, so this summer season was supposed to be the first in which there would be a direct connection between the capitals of Ukraine and Croatia, and it was originally supposed to start operating in May.
Due to the pandemic and the crisis it caused, the company initially postponed the start of operations to the end of May, then to June, but after Monday's changes, the company decided to further postpone the planned start of operations to July 21.
Windrose kept three weeks of flights on this route in the reservation system, with a small capacity aircraft (48 seats), ERJ-145.
Additional delays are also likely, as well as the complete cancellation of the line for this summer season and the start of traffic only in the summer flight schedule in 2021.

October 3, 2019 - The latest news from around Croatia’s airports for new flights to Croatia with updates from Zagreb, Rijeka, and Zadar.
After Korean Air announced they would reduce the capacity between Seoul and Zagreb this winter, operating three weekly services on the 218-seat Airbus A330-200 aircraft, the airline has instead decided to discontinue the service this winter.
Namely, Avio Radar and Ex Yu Aviation report that the Seoul-Zagreb service will not run this winter, though services will resume on April 1, 2020. As reported, the service will run between the two capitals only until November 29, 2019. Tickets sales have thus been discontinued.
Recall, during the 2018/19 winter season, Korean Air operated using the 261-seat Boeing 777-200ER aircraft from late October, which was replaced by the B787-9 from January.
Unlike the winter, the summer months have been excellent for Korean Air. Recall, the airline increased operations from three to four times a week in September.
“Since the launch of the route between Seoul and Zagreb, it has been performing with a high load factor. There has been growth this summer season, mainly on demand originating from Korea,” Korean Air said earlier this year. Korean Air began operations to Zagreb in September 2018 - and the Croatian capital is one of the airlines busiest destinations.
In other news, Avio Radar reports that LOT is coming to Rijeka with a new direct seasonal service from Warsaw. The route will run from March 29 to October 18, once a week on Sundays. The flight lands in Rijeka at 15:30 and departs for Warsaw at 16:20. An Embraer E195 aircraft, which has the capacity for 118 passengers, will service this line.
To conclude, Avio Radar reports that SAS Scandinavian Airlines, a Star Alliance member, added a new Croatian destination to their 2020 summer flight schedule. Namely, the airline will service Zadar in addition to the existing routes to Dubrovnik, Pula, and Split.
The new Copenhagen-Zadar route will operate twice a week, on Tuesdays and Saturdays, from June 30 to August 8, 2020. A Canadair CRJ-900 will be used for this line.
