August 10, 2022 - The 12th Sinj Village Fair was successfully held over Alka weekend and organized by the Sinj Tourist Board. 

The 12th Sinj Village Fair was successfully held on Dr. Franje Tuđman Square from August 5 to 6, organized by the Sinj Tourist Board, with the support of the City of Sinj and the Cetinje Region LAG - through the 'Dinara back to life' project (LIFE18NAT/HR/000847).

It was attended by more than 25 exhibitors from the Cetina region, Kaštela, Marina, Split, Vrgorac, and Zagorje, who presented their products, from ornaments and handicrafts to gourmet delicacies and products from the village and islands. Old local crafts were also offered, such as the production of folk costumes, opanaks, bakeware, copper, garden tools and other traditional wooden handicrafts and collectibles.

The fair was opened by Miro Bulj, the mayor of Sinj, and all the visitors and participants were blessed by Fr. Marinko Vukman, guardian and director of the Church of Our Lady of Sinj.

In the entertainment part of the program, the Sinj majorettes enhanced the atmosphere as they do with every event. Visitors followed the performances of the faithful guardians of local traditions and customs through the songs and dances of Dalmatian Zagora, which are on the list of the intangible cultural heritage of the Republic of Croatia. This included the Association for Preserving Cetina Region Heritage, KUD Vrilo - Obrovac Sinjski, URIG from Otok, KUD Krenica - Gala, KUD Cetina, KUD Glavice, and KUD Dicmo, who performed the traditional rera, the Sinj kola and the final Vrli kola from the opera 'Ero s onoga svijeta'.

Then, Goran Mikas, who presented the chants and musical instruments of Poljica, and the visiting cultural and artistic societies, such as the singing group "Krčevljani" Vitez (BiH), HKUD Sv. Ante Humac - Ljubuški (BiH), KUD "Ilinden" from Demir Hisar (North Macedonia), who introduced us to the traditions and customs of their region. On the final night of the fair, Ljuta kuća performed to raise the atmosphere.

Visitors also took part in engaging educational workshops. Thus, they had the opportunity to get acquainted with the traditional pottery from Potravlje through the production of clay dishes under the skillful hands of master Ivan Knezović. This traditional craft was nominated for UNESCO protection by the Ministry of Culture. The Tourist Board, under the auspices of the Ministry, organizes well-attended educational workshops every year. Visitors could learn about the forgotten skill of making opanak shoes, the only footwear known to Sinj's ancestors and which served them faithfully and for a long time in all activities, as well as the art of weaving baskets at Ljilje Vojković's workshop. 

Art & wine by Ana Poljak presented excellent works of art and wine from OPG Mažurin, along with a wool spinning workshop presented by Jasna and Domina Bilač, members of the Lipota Association. The fair also featured an exhibition of student works from the Split School of Crafts on "Women in Alka" and participants of last year's Sinj photo workshop "The World in Colors."

All visitors to the fair could take part in all the workshops for free and taste local gastronomic delicacies: Sinj uštipak prepared by the members of the Old Crafts Association as well as Sinj gingerbread prepared by Ankica Župić according to the original Sinj recipe.

August 9, 2021 - The 11th Sinj Village Fair was successfully organized by the Sinj Tourist Board, with the support of the City of Sinj and Split-Dalmatia County.

The 11th Sinj Village Fair was held on Dr. Franjo Tuđman Square on August 6th and 7th. More than 35 exhibitors attended, including renowned producers of prosciutto, cheese, honey, soparnik, liqueurs, and brandy, and autochthonous old crafts were presented, such as the making of folk costumes, opanak, peka, copper, garden tools, and other handicrafts from wood made traditionally.

The fair was opened by Miro Bulj, Mayor of Sinj. In the entertainment part of the program, the Sinj majorettes performed with their unique choreography, magnifying every event they participate in. Visitors to the fair had the opportunity to follow the performances of faithful guardians of Sinj traditions and customs through tunes and dances of Inland Dalmatia, on the list of the intangible cultural heritage of the Republic of Croatia. The Association for the Preservation of the Heritage of the Cetina Region, KUD Vrilo - Obrovac Sinjski, KUD Glavice, and KUD Dicmo, performed with a traditional rera. Members of the klapa Cetinjanke from Hrvace and the vocal group Rusulica performed several klapa compositions.

To preserve traditional crafts, special workshops were held this year as well. On the first evening of the Fair, visitors could see how pottery is created under the skillful hands of master Ivan Knezović, a representative of traditional handmade pottery from Potravlje, which has had the status of intangible cultural property since 2013 and was nominated for UNESCO protection by the Croatian Ministry of Culture. An attractive presentation of the almost forgotten skill of making opanaks and weaving was led by Ljiljana Vojković, while the Dragodid Association presented the art of making drywall. Blacksmithing was presented by Josip Evačić from Koprivnica. Finally, members of KUD Cetina introduced the visitors to the processing of wool and customs.

All visitors to the fair could taste čobanac prepared by the hunting association Srnjak from Vrbanja free of charge. Valuable members of the association donated 1000 portions of this Slavonian delicacy to the 11th Sinj Village Fair visitors, while Sinj specialties - uštipak, prepared free of charge on both evenings of the fair, were made by members of the Old Crafts Association.

In the final musical part of the program on the first evening, top bands performed: Kopito, an attraction from the island of Vis, with Sinj's Ljuta kuća, and on the second night of the fair, the popular Giuliano and Diktatori.

Also, at this year's Sinj Village Fair, numerous KUDs were guests who presented the customs and traditions of their region through the Evening of Knighthood and Folklore: KUD Dusina from Vrgorac, KUD Pleter from Dugopolje, Goran Mikas - Poljica, and the hosts of the Cetina Region Heritage Preservation Association. and KUD Cetina.

The host of this two-day fair was Branimir Romac. The fair was held following the recommendations of the Civil Protection Headquarters and the applicable measures of the CNIPH.

August 5, 2021 - After last year's break due to the pandemic, this year, from August 6 to 7, the Sinj Tourist Board, with the support of the City of Sinj and Split-Dalmatia County, and in cooperation with the Beauty Tradition Association, the 11th Sinj Village Fair will be held on Dr. Franjo Tudjman Square.

More than 30 exhibitors from the Cetina region, Kaštela, Marina, Split, Vrgorac, and Zagorje, will present and offer various products - from decorations and handicrafts to gourmet delicacies and products of the villages and islands. They will be presented during the fair to preserve the traditional crafts of Croatia.

Visitors will have the opportunity to get to know the traditional hand wheel pottery from Potravlje under the skillful hands of master Ivan Knezović. This traditional craft has been nominated by the Ministry of Culture for UNESCO protection. The Tourist Board, under the auspices of the Ministry, organizes extremely well-attended educational workshops every year. It is important to mention the almost forgotten skill of making opanaks, the only footwear that our ancestors knew and that served them faithfully and for a long time in all activities, which Ljilja Vojković will demonstrate.

Visitors will try their hand at making and thus have a valuable opportunity to get closer and connect with the customs of the region through indigenous products, traditional crafts, and skills such as building drywall with the Dragodid Association, the skills of blacksmith Josip Evačić from Koprivnica, and a wool processing workshop that members of KUD Cetina will present. The fair will also host exhibitions of student works from the Split School of Crafts on "Women in Alka," participants of this year's Sinj photo workshop "World in Colors," and a screening of a film and exhibition of travel writers and photographers Angela and Davor Rostuhar entitled "Love around the world".

Numerous tastings of local products and dishes (fry bread, young cheese) will be organized as part of the fair, and friends from Vrbanja will prepare specialties of their region for visitors. In addition to the exhibition and enogastronomic part, visitors will be able to enjoy the entertainment program with concerts by bands: Kopito, Ljuta kuća, Guiliano and Diktatori; Sinj majorettes, numerous klapas, associations, and cultural and artistic societies, for example, KUD Cetina, KUD Vrilo, Association for the Preservation of the Heritage of the Cetina Region, KUD Dicmo, KUD Glavice, KUD Dusina, URIG from Otok, KUD PLETER, Goran Mikas, klapa Cetinjanke from Hrvaca and Rusul's vocal ensemble.

By organizing the Sinj Village Fair, the Sinj Tourist Board enables interested citizens and visitors in Sinj to taste and buy high-quality traditional local products that are difficult to find in stores. At the same time, it helps small and medium-sized agricultural farms from the rural area of ​​Sinj and its surroundings and other parts of Croatia to promote and sell their products. Instructed by the previous experience of exceptional attendance, this year, more exhibitors from all over Croatia are expected, and a minimum of 20% of local producers. As the organizer, the Sinj Tourist Board is obliged to provide more space and more tables for exhibitors to ensure the fair is top quality and meets the expectations of all participants.

July 29, 2021 - After last year's break, the Sinj Tourist Board is organizing the "Sinj Village Fair 2021" event for the 11th time as a fair event that includes exhibiting, tasting, and selling Croatian traditional products: food, drinks, and souvenirs.

The "Sinj Village Fair 2021" is held during the Alka festivities on August 6 and 7, 2021. The fair is traditionally held in August when Sinj becomes the center of cultural, religious, and tourist events in Split-Dalmatia County and beyond.

By organizing the event, the Sinj Tourist Board allows interested citizens and visitors to the city of Sinj to taste and buy local traditional products that consumers have a hard time finding because most products are not readily available. At the same time, small and medium-sized farms from the rural area of ​​Sinj and its surroundings, and other parts of Croatia, would help in the promotion and sale of their products.

"Instructed by the experience so far, we expect an even larger number of exhibitors this year. Therefore, this year as an organizer we have an obligation to provide more space and a larger number of tables for exhibitors, because the participation of exhibitors from all parts of Croatia is expected, of which at least 40% will be local producers. The fair will be held according to the recommendations of the Civil Protection Headquarters in compliance with all recommended epidemiological measures," said the Sinj Tourist Board. 

The importance of this Fair is for the promotion of rich tourist and cultural heritage, as well as the rich offer of agricultural producers and souvenir producers, all for the tourist, cultural and economic development of the city.

"In this way, all visitors will have the opportunity to supply their tables with quality products of the Croatian village during these festive days in our city (Alka festivities and the feast of the Assumption) and give their personal contribution to Sinj's economy and tourism," added the Sinj Tourist Board.

The application must contain the name and surname of the exhibitor, i.e., the name of the association, trade, family farm, etc., the number of registration plates of the delivery vehicle, the contact number, and the number of days for which the exhibitor is applying.

Due to the limited number of exhibitors, applications will be accepted until August 4 at 12 noon or until capacity is filled.

August 6, 2019 - The 10th Sinj Village Fair was successfully organized by the Sinj Tourist Board, with the support of the City of Sinj, Split-Dalmatia County and the Ministry of Economy, Entrepreneurship, and Crafts.

More than 35 exhibitors participated in the two days of the fair:, including reputable producers of prosciutto, cheese, honey, soparnik, liqueurs, brandies, as well as indigenous old crafts such as making folk costumes, opanak shoes, peka, copper, garden tools and other traditional wood handicrafts, as well as collectible items.

The 10th Sinj Village Fair was opened on August 2, 2019, at the Dr. Franjo Tudjman Square by Monika Vrgoč, Director of the Sinj Tourist Board, while the following day Kristina Križanac, Mayor of the City of Sinj, closed the occasion with an invitation for the 11th Sinj Village Fair. 

The entertainment part of the program featured the Sinj Majorettes who, with their performances and choreography, magnify every event they participate in. The fair also featured the Association for the Preservation of the Heritage of the Cetina Region, KUD Vrilo - Obrovac Sinjski, KUD Glavice, and KUD Dicmo, who performed the traditional folk customs of the Dalmatian Zagora. Members of these Associations are the faithful keepers of the region’s traditions and customs, which they cherish through the songs and dances of Inland Dalmatia, and are also on the list of the intangible cultural heritage of the Republic of Croatia. Among the other performers were the elementary school students of Trilj, who presented the original souvenir of the Trilj region and sang songs.

Traditional craft workshops were also held this year. In order to preserve these traditional crafts, the first night of the fair featured a workshop on making clay pots, which were created under the skilled hands of master Ivan Knezović. Namely, the traditional pottery of Potravlje has been given the status of an intangible cultural property since 2013, and has been nominated by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia for UNESCO protection. Every year, the Sinj Tourist Board organizes extremely well attended educational workshops. 

The workshops also featured the almost forgotten skills of making opanak shoes and weaving, led by Ljiljana Vojković. All visitors to the fair could taste the Sinj specialties for free - uštipak and young cheese prepared by the members of KUD Cetina and the Association Old Crafts. The oenological presentation was led by OPG Mažurin with the original wines of Croatia and Maraština, which were also shared free of charge by the members of OPG Mažurin and the association Srma.

Kopita was the star of the concert portion of the program, who hails from the island of Vis. Despite the bad weather, the audience enjoyed an unforgettable musical evening. 

A novelty this year were the numerous KUDs and Knights' Associations, who, through the Evening of Knighthood and Folklore, presented the customs and traditions of Croats from all over Croatia and the world. Thus, after the 304th Čoje and parade of 28 historical military units throughout Sinj, visitors could also enjoy some of their performances at the Sinj Village Fair. The first performance was by Kumpanjija Blato, then, KUD Gorjanac, the Slavonian Queen Ljelja, and Kumpanjija Smokvica performed two traditional dances, which was followed by performances by guests of the Association for the Preservation of the Heritage of the Cetina Region: KUD Bribir, Folklore Groups Hajdenjaki, Sounds of Stone and Karst - Imotski and hosts KUD Sinj and URIG. Despite the bad weather, especially on Friday, the fair was visited by over 1500 people. To preserve ancient customs, the promotion of traditional pottery from Potravlje will be featured as part of the fair. Visitors will have an opportunity to see how the clay pots are made under the hands of master Ivan Knežović. The Ministry of Culture has nominated this traditional craft for UNESCO protection, and the Tourist Board, sponsored by the Ministry, annually organizes an exceptionally well-received educational workshop. It is also worth mentioning the almost forgotten skill of crafting opanak footwear, which were the only shoes our old men knew, which were used faithfully for decades (Ljilja Vojković).

Visitors can also try their hand at making these traditional shoes and thus have a precious opportunity to get closer and connect with the customs of our region through native products and traditional crafts.

Numerous tastings of local products and dishes will be organized within the fair (uštipak, arambaša). Besides the exhibition and wine and food area, visitors will enjoy an entertainment program featuring the concert of the KOPITO group, as well as numerous associations and cultural-arts companies. Namely, visitors will enjoy performances of the Sinj Majorettes, KUD Cetina, KUD Krenica from Gala, KUD Vrilo, Association for the preservation of the heritage of the Cetina region, URIG from Otok, O.Š. Trilj, Kumpanija from Smokvica and Kumpanija from Blato. 

For the first time, the Queen of Gorjani - Djakovo will arrive! The Slavonian Queen will perform a sword dance, which is connected to the traditional culture of northern Croatia. The Spring Parade of the Slavonian Queen (Ljelja) was entered as Croatian cultural heritage in 1966, in 2007 it was recognized as immaterial world heritage, and in 2009 it was added to UNESCO's list of non-material world heritage in Europe.

In addition to this dance, other traditional folk dances will be performed, as well as classic folk songs.

The Sinj Village Fair will be held as part of the Alkar celebrations, on August 2 and 3, 2019. Thus, the fair will take place in August when Sinj becomes the center of cultural, religious, and tourist events in Split-Dalmatia County and beyond.

Through the organization of the event, the Tourist Board of Sinj gives the interested citizens and visitors of Sinj a chance to taste and buy local and traditional products that are most difficult for consumers to find since they are not readily available for sale. At the same time, small and medium-sized farms from the rural area of Sinj and its surrounding area and other parts of Croatia will be given an opportunity to promote and sell their products.

After last year’s exceptional attendance, even more exhibitors are expected this year. Therefore, the organizers will provide a larger space and a greater number of exhibition tables, as they expect participants from all parts of Croatia and the neighboring Bosnia and Herzegovina, of which at least 40% of local producers will be present.

This fair is important for promoting the rich tourist offer and cultural heritage, as well as the agricultural producers and souvenir manufacturers, all aiming to develop the tourism, culture, and economy of the city. 

In this way, all visitors will have the opportunity to celebrate the Sinj Alka and Velika Gospa with the quality products of Croatian villages and give their contribution to the Sinj economy and the promotion of tourism.

The 9th Sinj Village Fair, organized by the Sinj Tourist Board with the support of the City of Sinj, Split-Dalmatia County and the Ministry of Economy, Entrepreneurship and Craft, was successfully held.
