Croats in NBA: Bogdanovic Scores Another Impressive Buzzer Beat for Jazz Win

February 10, 2020 - For the second time this season, Bojan Bogdanovic scored a three-pointer at the final buzzer to give Utah Jazz the win.

"This shot was better than the one against Milwaukee," Bojan Bogdanovic said after the game, which Utah Jazz won 114:113 against Houston Rockets.

Gol.hr reports that after P. J. Tucker hit a three-pointer to give Houston a 113:111 lead with 1.6 seconds remaining, and it looked like Utah would be without the win at the Toyota Center.

Bojan Bogdanovic wasn’t having the best evening. For the first time since arriving in Salt Lake City, he failed to score any baskets in the first half, and by the end of the game he was on the bench, with just five points and one shot in play (1/6).

Still, coach Quin Snyder decided to use him in the last action of the game.

"I didn't even have to be on the court considering how I played. But the coaches believed in me; they gave me a chance to shoot for the win. I believed I could hit that shot and in the end, we came to that momentous victory," Bogdanovic said overjoyed after the game in which he scored just eight points and recorded single-digits for the second time this season.

Bogdanovic was on the run at the start of the action, then headed for the basket. Then, through the blocks of Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell, he was nine meters from the basket, received the ball from Joe Ingles, who threw it into play, and nailed a three-pointer over PJ Tucker and James Harden's outstretched arm.

"This one was better than the one against Milwaukee," Bojan answered when asked where he would rank this winning basket.

Three months ago, Bogdanovic hit a three-pointer at the buzzer at home game against the Bucks, when he had 1.3 seconds to hit the winning shot. And even then, Coach Snyder trusted him.

"He's a great competitor and I always tell him just to play. I don't need to point this out; he knows how much I believe in him," the Utah Jazz coach said.

Compliments also came from home team coach Mike D'Antoni.

"There were two players on it. I was afraid we wouldn't make a foul because they were very close. I tip my hat to him for that shot.”

On the way to the Jazz victory, Jordan Clarkson, who was the top scorer with 30 points, made a big contribution to the win. Donovan Mitchell recorded 24 points and Mike Conley scored 20 points. Rudy Gobert recorded a double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds.

Croats in NBA: Bogdanovic Scores Team-High 27 Points in Jazz Win

February 8, 2020 - Bojan Bogdanovic added to his already impressive stats this season with 27 points against the Portland Trail Blazers.

HRT reports that the Utah Jazz was down by 16 points early in the second half, but achieved a massive turnaround and managed to break their five-game losing streak by defeating Portland 117:114.

Croatian basketball player Bojan Bogdanovic was the best for the Jazz with 27 points, scoring key points in the final moments. Namely, 52 seconds before the final buzzer, at 112:112, he scored for the Jazz lead, and a few seconds before the end, he hit one of two free throws for the final score. In addition to 27 points, he also recorded four rebounds, two steals and an assist.

French center Rudy Gobert booked 16 points and 14 rebounds, and Mike Conley scored 18 points for the Jazz.

In almost 27 minutes on the court, Mario Hezonja scored 11 points with six rebounds and three steals for the Trail Blazers. Portland was led by Damian Lillard, who scored 42 points, six rebounds and six assists. However, he was anything but pleased after the game.

“The referees hijacked this win from us,” said Portland's best player, referring to the basket at the end of the game when Gobert blocked the ball for a Jazz lead of 116:114.

“That was a clean situation. Three refs are on the court and none of them saw it. They cost us victories. We are fighting for the playoffs and every win is important to us. We did our best to come up with a tough away win, and they stole it from us.

The whole match I was hit, sometimes I was guarded by three guys, they pulled me, pushed me and I only make three free throws in the game. And then they still make a mistake in a clean situation at the end of the game. Shouldn't we say something about it? Of course, we have to speak, because they cost us victories,” Lillard concluded.

Gobert also acknowledged the error of the judges.

“I did what I could to stop him. It can be seen in the video, he was honest.”

Croats in NBA: Bojan Bogdanovic Makes NBA History in 6th Straight Jazz Victory

January 7, 2020 - Croatia basketball team player Bojan Bogdanovic had another memorable night in the NBA on Monday.

Namely, T.portal reports that the Croatia captain scored 35 points (8/12 two-pointers shot, 3/9 three-pointers, 10/10 free throws) in 33:16 minutes on the court. Bogdanovic was the Utah Jazz's top scorer in the 128:26 away win against the New Orleans Pelicans.

The Croatian basketball player also made NBA history on Monday and became the first player to have played more than one game in which he scored more than 25 points without registering one assist, rebound, block, or steal. Bogdanovic first achieved this on March 29, 2018, playing for Indiana against Sacramento. The last player to score 35 points without rebounds and assists was Alan Houston in 2000.

Utah has thus reached its sixth consecutive win in New Orleans, and the 11th in its last 12 appearances. In the uncertain ending, the Jazz led 128:126 thanks to Donovan Mitchell, who scored 1:12 minutes before the final buzzer. Brandon Ingram had the last chance, but Rudy Gobert prevented the game from going into extra time.

In addition to Bogdanovic, Joe Ingles was excellent for the Jazz with 22 points, Rudy Gobert recorded 19 rebounds, while Brandon Ingram scored 35 points for the Pelicans.

Serbian and Slovenian players also had a great Monday evening. Nikola Jokic set a new career record with 47 points in the 123:115 away victory for the Denver Nuggets against the Atlanta Hawks, while Luka Doncic achieved a triple-double with 30 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists in the 118:110 Dallas Mavericks home win against the Chicago Bulls.

The San Antonio Spurs were able to defeat the Milwaukee Bucks 126:104 at home, giving them only their seventh defeat of the season. DeMar DeRozan led the Spurs with 25 points, while Giannis Antetokounmpo was the best for the Bucks with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Luka Samanic did not play for the Spurs, nor did Dragan Bender for the Bucks

Croats in NBA: Brilliant Bogdanovic Scores 16 Points in Final Quarter for Jazz Win

November 30,  2019 - The brilliant Bojan Bogdanovic was credited with 22 of the 28 points the Utah Jazz scored in the last quarter of their game against Memphis on Friday night.

HRT reports that Bojan Bogdanovic achieved a season record in the Utah Jazz victory over Memphis (103:94) on Friday. Bogdanovic finished the game with 33 points, 16 of which he scored in the last quarter.

Also brilliant was Slovenian Luka Doncic, who became the first player after Oscar Robertson and Russell Westbrook to hit a triple-double average in one calendar month with a minimum of 30 points.

Bogdanovic tallied 33 points and eight rebounds, as well as two assists. Both assists came in the last quarter and were for three-pointers, so Bogdanovic, in addition to 16 points, was credited with 22 of the 28 points the Jazz scored in the final quarter.

On social media, some fans have already started calling for Bojan Bogdanovic's invitation to the All-Star weekend, but how could they not when he is currently one of the best shooters in the league? With that result, Doncic ended the calendar month with a triple-double average of 32.4 points per game. Doncic thus became the first player in NBA history after Oscar Robertson and Russell Westbrook to finish the calendar month with a triple-double average of points over 30.

Ivica Zubac scored eight points (shots in play 3/5, free throws 2/2), with five rebounds and one assist for the Los Angeles Clippers, who were defeated by the San Antonio Spurs 97:107.

Ante Zizic played only three minutes for the Cleveland Cavaliers, and in that time he recorded one rebound. Cleveland lost to Milwaukee 110:119 at home.

Croats in NBA: Bogdanovic Becomes Utah Jazz Hero after Hitting Buzzer-beater to Win

November 9, 2019 - Bojan Bogdanovic became the hero of the Utah Jazz on Friday night. Not only was he their top scorer of the game with 33 points, which is his record for the season, but he also scored a three-pointer at the final buzzer to win 103-100 against the Milwaukee Bucks.

His fifth three-pointer of the game came after a series of team mistakes at the end of the game. Donovan Mitchell really should have settled the win, but George Hill stole the ball and called a time out with 2.3 seconds left. The possession went to the Bucks' side, but Khris Middleton also failed to score 1.3 seconds before the buzzer.

Joe Ingles carried the ball, Babo ran into the corner, received it, and nailed a three-pointer at the sound of the final buzzer. Salt Lake City erupted into joy.

"I was surprised to receive a standing ovation of the whole arena, regardless of the shot to win. It was a great atmosphere, like in a playoff game,” Bogdanovic said.

After the game, Bojan revealed that Mike Conley was meant to shoot to win, but Bojan demanded the action goes to him. The two agreed, and coach Quin Snyder blessed the deal.

"That's what is great about this team. The coach listens to what the players have to say because we're on the court and we execute. Conley should have gone in that corner, but I asked him to take his place on the high quadrant, so I had the option to slip into the corner,” Bojan said.

Bojan said it is a pleasure to play in teams like the Jazz.

"I'm surrounded by a great group of guys who are selfless players. Quin is a great coach who knows how to fit you into a system with a lot of organized action. I didn't like that on other teams," Bogdanovic said.

Conley praised Bojan one more time.

"He is still showing the world what he's capable of. A lot of people don't know how good he is," the Jazz player concluded.

In 37 minutes on the court, Bogdanovic scored 33 points, hitting 9/19 shots in play, 5/10 three-pointers, and all ten free throws. He even recorded five rebounds.

The Croatian ace was the best for the Jazz, although on the other side of the court was current MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo who hit 30 points and 13 rebounds.

Giannis scored 28 of his 30 points in the second half, giving the Bucks the only lead of the game 89-88, but fouled out shortly after.

Dragan Bender has yet to make his Milwaukee debut.

October 24, 2019 - Croatian basketball player Bojan Bogdanovic was the second-best scorer in the Utah Jazz victory on Wednesday.

Gol.hr reports that Bojan Bogdanovic was brilliant in Utah Jazz’s seasoner opener, as the team went on to win 100-95 in their first game against Oklahoma City Thunder.

While it wasn't his day for three-pointers (1/5), Bogdanovic made great use of the plays set up for him and nailed five out of nine two-pointers, eventually finishing with 16 points in 24 minutes on the court. Bogdanovic was Utah’s was second-best scorer after Donovan Mitchell, who scored 32 points.

The Utah Jazz was concerned about Bogdanovic's ankle injury in the second quarter, which saw him limp off to the dressing room. Still, after consulting with the medical team, he returned to the court and played in the second half.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was the best for the Thunder with 26 points, while Chris Paul added 22 with eight assists. The team's biggest star praised Bogdanovic in his pre-game interview.

Bojan Bogdanović Training Harder than Ever on Holiday in Dubrovnik

August 16, 2019 - Bojan Bogdanović has been intensely preparing for yet another NBA challenge - a new season with new Utah Jazz.

Croatia national basketball team player Bojan Bogdanović has spent much of his holiday in Dubrovnik, a city he fell in love with as a kid. But this summer, the popular ‘Babo’ worked harder than ever on his game to justify the big paycheck given to him by new NBA team Utah Jazz, reports T.portal on August 16, 2019.

At the beginning of July, the 30-year-old Mostar-born Bogdanović accepted an offer from the Utah Jazz, who, after great games in the Indiana Pacers jersey, offered him a four-year, $73 million contract.

Thus, Bogdanović, who arrived in the NBA in 2014 when he played for Brooklyn, earned a reputation as one of the league's best scorers after five seasons. After all, he averaged 18 points a game last season, 4.1 rebounds and 2.0 assists with three-pointers at a brilliant 42.5 percent. After the best season of his career, he also received the contract of his life.

To better fit into the system of coach Quin Snyder, assistant coach Zach Guthrie arrived in Dubrovnik for ten days, who, despite the high heat and thousands of tourists, worked daily at the Gospino Polje hall in the non-air-conditioned gym with the new Jazzer player. The move surprised Bogdanović a bit, but it also showed him just how much everyone at the club cared. Especially head coach Snyder, who sees Bogdanović as a player in the first five who will return the favor with points and good defense.

“I am convinced that Bojan will fit in perfectly with our game, and we could hardly find a better shooter on the market. We could really have a killer five when it comes to three-pointers," said a sympathetic Guthrie briefly, who showed details of the actions Bogdanović would be a part of.

“We did really well all summer and I'm very pleased. Coach Danijel Lutz has been with me the whole time and is someone I’ve worked with for years. The arrival of Jazz's assistant from the US is a testament to the attention to detail in my new team,” Bogdanović told T.portal, who found his second home in Dubrovnik as he's already purchased several properties in the famous Croatian city.

“I loved Dubrovnik as a child when I would come with my parents and sisters to this beautiful city. Well, I said earlier that I was overjoyed that I could fulfill my childhood wish and that I bought a nice house on Stradun, in the very center of the old town,” said Bogdanović with a smile. The basketballer can often be seen walking Stradun in the company of friends or girlfriends.

Bogdanović determined that he would be actively resting until the Assumption of Mary, after which he would begin working a bit harder in Zagreb, in the Dražen Petrović hall. He plans to train in Zagreb until early September when he will head to his new destination - Salt Lake City, Utah.

Bojan will arrive in the US fully prepared and eager for new challenges.

“Honestly, I wish I had spent the summer preparing for the World Cup with the Croatia national team, but it is what it is. As for Utah Jazz, I expect a good season and I think the club leaders have put together a very good team, although it will take time for us to play. We all envision a fight for the top of the Western Conference, and what is certain is that, in my opinion, this will be the most uncertain and tense NBA season after a long time. It's hard to predict who could reach the finals. Well, just look at the West - I think that out of 15 teams, maybe 2-3 are not counting on being at the top of the table and there will be a big fight for a spot in the playoffs,” added Bogdanović.

To be in top form for another NBA season, Bogdanović always calls coach Danijel Lutz, his trainer since he arrived from Real Madrid to Cibona.

“It is true that we have been cooperating for a very long time and what is most important for Bojan at this stage of his career is refining the segments in his game that he is always performing very well. Of course, we also worked on some of the details that he will need with the Utah Jazz, which was done in collaboration with the assistant coach Zach Guthrie, who he enjoyed working here in Dubrovnik,” Lutz said, adding:

“Bojan is a complete professional and the way he has worked hard all summer, during his vacation, confirms that. Of course, that is expected of someone who has the status Bojan currently has in the NBA.”

Utah Jazz Officially Present Bojan Bogdanović As New Player

Bojan Bogdanović was presented as a new player of the Utah Jazz in Las Vegas on Monday.

At the Encore Hotel in Las Vegas, the latest, most expensive and currently most luxurious hotel in the city, the Utah Jazz presented their two biggest transfers this year, reports Sportske Novosti on July 9, 2019.

Bojan Bogdanović received a jersey with the number 44, while Mike Conley took the jersey with the number 10. The two will embark on an adventure with Donovan Mitchell, Joe Ingles, and Rudy Gobert; an adventure which hopefully leads Salt Lake City to the championship title.

Justin Zanik, the General Manager of Utah Jazz, and Vice President of Basketball Operations of the team, Denis Lindsey, introduced the new players.

“We are happy that Bojan is with us, he has strength, he has worked hard on those tiny, invisible things, was very important to Indiana, and we also expect that here. It's great that we got him as a player and that we got to know him."

Mike Conley, a player who signed the biggest contract in the history of basketball three years ago, when Memphis signed him for $153 million, and a player who has won multiple NBA awards, thanked the Utah Jazz on the trade from Memphis and said:

“I'm excited to play next to Bojan Bogdanović and I hope for a special season ahead of us. Now is the time for some fresh air, and when we get together, we will begin our big story."

Bojan Bogdanović is definitely in the circle of players in the NBA who are among the highest paid, and it's no wonder why - just look at the trace he has left in his five NBA seasons so far. Everyone believes in him, including the Utah Jazz, who will pay $73 million for the Croatian for the next four seasons.

“I’m honored to be part of this organization and I have found a good situation for myself here. I'm happy that Utah called me, I knew they had a deep roster, I knew Conley had arrived, that Mitchell, Gobert, Ingles were a brilliant blend of youngsters and veterans, and I am excited about everything that this team can do. The Jazz was one of the best attacking teams and one of the best defensive teams in the NBA last season, and as we have a pretty deep roster, perhaps deeper than anyone, it allows for a huge number of rotations, a lot of combinations that we can use during the game. I can hardly wait for the season to begin,” Bogdanović said before US journalists.
