Zadar Archipelago to Get Three Water Ambulances

ZAGREB, 23 May, 2021 - The state secretary at the Health Ministry, Silvio Bašić, said in Zadar on Sunday the Zadar archipelago would soon get three emergency medical service vessels.

"Besides the three vessels, Zadar County will also get one vehicle, a mobile surgery and pharmacy for the inhabitants of the remotest parts of the hinterland," Bašić said.

The county's public health institute will also receive a HRK 2.5 million molecular diagnostics device, a Viper LT, whereby the institute will become a reference centre for 12 Southeast European countries.

County prefect Božidar Longin said the first 12-metre-long water ambulance would arrive in a month and that the second vessel would be a pharmacy delivering medicines to remote islands.

The third vessel will be able to sail in all weather conditions and is intended for the remotest islands in the county, he added.

VIDEO: Stunning Aerial Footage of Dolphin Family in Zadar Archipelago

February 1, 2021 – The Adriatic might be too cold for us right now, but conditions are perfect for this dolphin family, spectacularly captured gliding through glacial, undisturbed waters by an overhead drone

The Adriatic might be too cold for us right now, but conditions are perfect for this dolphin family, spectacularly captured gliding through glacial, undisturbed waters by an overhead drone

The footage of the dolphin family was captured spectacularly by keen amateur drone photographer Davor Miljkovic. Davor, who is from Zapresic, usually puts his eye for aesthetics into website design – he works as a PHP website developer for Virtus dizajn in Lanište, Zagreb and as a freelance website developer. But, he is currently taking advantage of working remotely and was able to catch footage of the dolphin family during his off time.

“I live in Zapresic but my grandmother is from island Rava, near Zadar,” Davor told TCN on 1st February 2021, two days after he posted the video of the dolphin family to his Youtube channel. “So, we have a house here by the sea. My fiance and I spend part of the winter here and we are here all summer too.”

The Zadar archipelago (in Croatian Zadarski arhipelag) is an incredibly picturesque group of islands off the coast of the city of Zadar. In addition to island Rava, off which Davor saw the dolphin family, the archipelago also consists of the islands Dugi Otok, Galešnjak, Iž, Lavdara, Ošljak, Pašman, Rivanj, Sestrunj, Tun Veli, Ugljan, Vir, Vrgada, Zečevo and Zverinac.

The beautiful stretch of islands is usually very popular with summertime visitors. It would seem that it's also popular in wintertime with visitors who live in the sea. And, of course, people like Davor who are lucky enough to catch sight of them.

Want to Move to Croatia? An Amazing Opportunity on Sestrunj!

You're not entirely sure where Sestrunj is?

Well, let's be honest, that's perfectly OK, most Croatians are not sure either!

But, we're sure a lot of them Googled the island today, as a great advertisement surfaced on Facebook, telling the world about what seems to be a too-good-to-be-true opportunity on the island in the Zadar archipelago

What the ad says, freely translated to English, is this:

They're looking for a person to work in their grocery store. They're providing accommodation year-round, and a pay-check (they're not mentioning what the amount is). In addition to those, you get to experience the untouched nature of the island, the sun and the sea during the summer, and the fact that there are around 10 people living on the island during the winter!

The add does not really specify how important it is for the person applying to actually be fully fluent in Croatian, so we're guessing - if you know a couple of dozen words used in the grocery-store setting, you can probably apply and try and convince the local folks in charge that you're the right person for the job. Apply at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., or directly to the island of Sestrunj Facebook page inbox.

In case you're wondering, there's a ferry and a catamaran (link to schedule.pdf) from Sestrunj to Zadar, the catamaran operates each day of the week and it takes less than an hour to get from the island to Zadar (which is almost as much as you need to get from one side of Zagreb to the other during proper morning rush hour). The ferry operates between Zadar and Sestrunj (and other islands in the Zadar archipelago) every day only during the summer season; for the rest of the year, it's 3 or 4 times a week (link to schedule.pdf).

So, maybe it sounds like something you would like to do. To me, honestly, it sounds a bit like Northern Exposure. But warmer. Much warmer.
