Plac Mljac 2019 Returns to Trešnjevka Market in Zagreb

As you probably already realized, there's a lot going on in Zagreb this summer (well, every summer in the last several years, but this year really does seem to be something else). One of the many many events happening in Zagreb these days is Plac Mljac 2019 - starting on July 1st, and closing on July 7th. Zagreb Tourist Board compares Plac Mljac to London't Notting Hill, so you really need to find out what that's about, right?!

What is Plac Mljac, you might ask, and how does one pronounce it? Well, as for the latter, just don't, if you don't have to. Take my word for it. The event's title comes from the Croatian word for market, used exclusively in Northern Croatia and area around Zagreb (please don't come to a Dalmatian island of your choice and inquire about their "plac"; they won't know what you mean), and "mljac" is a sound you make when you enjoy something, something akin to "yummy". The two rhyme in English, and they want to let you know that you will be enjoying your time spent at Trešnjevka market this week.

There will be vertical gardens, creative corners for reading and just chilling (I'm sure you'll be happy to know that the PR release for the event contained the word written "čilanje" in Croatian, so there's that), a night market where you will be able to do some shopping in a place where you'd usually go to with that sole purpose, huge chandeliers over the plateau, luxurious floral arrangements etc... The story of a market where you come in early July in the evening to just hang out, enjoy the atmosphere, good vibrations, great food and drinks and some concerts, that's the story of Plac Mljac 2019.

This year the team from the G.A.D. Production, also responsible for an already cult event Dvorišta, worked hard to get amazing lineup for the Plac Mljac 2019 event. Krunoslav Majcen, the chef from O'brok restaurant will offer numerous "original Croatian specialties", such as štrukle, šnenokle, black pig on the barbeque etc. Fun Bobby is a street-food crew from Siget will prepare creative fusion sandwiches. As for the drinks, Trešnjevački Mališank (another good joke in Croatian, combining the name of a well-known kid's choir with the name for the bar) will be making cocktails and grownup icecreams with liqueur, Rudolph Pub will have 4 beers ready to cool you down, as well as cocktails, rakijas, wines etc.

The events of the evening will start every day at 7 pm, and each day a double program of music performances will take place before midnight. Most of the bands performing are not really house-hold names around Croatia, but all of them will be able to create the atmosphere of dancing, singing and having fun with their music. The one name that stands out from the rest of the lineup is Ricardo Luque, the premier latin music performer in Zagreb, who will certainly bring "Fiesta Latina" to Trešnjevački plac!
