October the 22nd, 2022 - Croatia is often the backdrop of a variety of films, hit series and commercials, and filming in Zagreb is once again causing problems for those of us who live here, especially road users who are growing a bit tired of important roads being blocked off.

Owing to the filming of the likes of high speed car chase scenes, some roads are going to be off limits once again, with problems beginning for the capital's drivers as soon as today.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, filming in Zagreb currently involves famous actress Kate Beckinsale who plays the main role in the upcoming film, according to a report from Dnevnik.

The action thriller "Canary Black" was supposed to be filmed in the Czech capital city of Prague, but since that failed, the most similar locations were searched for. "There weren't many options, we considered Greece, Turkey, Serbia... but we chose Croatia," said producer Carsten H.W. Lorenz, who revealed that parts of this film will also be shot in Rovinj, which will "play" Tokyo.

Lorenz apologized in advance that he would have to block traffic for certain scenes being filmed in Zagreb, such as car chases.

"A lot of preparation and safety measures are necessary when shooting action scenes, we have to take care of every detail, not even a dog is allowed to run onto the set because it is too dangerous," he said.

Judging by the permit that the City of Zagreb gave the production company for the use of several of the city's often busy public areas, filming will last until the end of January 2023. Until then, residents of the capital can once again expect occasional road closures and problems with transportation on a number of important city roads.

As of today (Saturday, October the 22nd), there will be a change for the 150 bus like, ZET reported. "From 07:00 until 19:00, that bus line will run along the Tuskanac Garage - Ilirski trg route, due to the filming in Zagreb and the current ban on traffic in Radiceva street". Bus users were asked for their understanding of the change.

The City of Zagreb will receive compensation in the amount of 103,000.00 kuna, or 13,670.45 euros, for the service of assigning filming locations across the city, it was announced.

July the 20th, 2021 - As the very height of summer approaches and most of Zagreb's residents head either down to the coast or abroad for their annual breaks, one important Zagreb road is set to close for four entire weeks, and warnings have been issued to residents remaining in the capital to prepare for queues as a result.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, for almost a month (four weeks), ie from July the 19th to Monday, August the 9th, a special traffic regulation will be valid on on important Zagreb road - Miramarska cesta.

Every day from 09:00 to 14:00, the western and eastern traffic lanes of this central Zagreb road will be closed off, and traffic will be allowed to continue along the remaining free part, meaning that queues and traffic jams are more than likely.

The reason for the half-closure of this important Zagreb road in the heart of the city is the execution of works on the modernisation of public lighting along the railway underpass, the Zagreb City Office for Local Self-Government announced.

''We'd like to warn our fellow citizens about possible difficulties in traffic and as such, we're asking for your patience during this time,'' they stated from the aforementioned office.

As we recently reported, works on the Zagreb roundabout are now finally drawing to a close. After a long 385 days of the roundabout being intensively worked on, causing issues with traffic at one of the Croatian capital's main hubs, the road is now ready to take cars.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes on the 9th of January, 2020, the whole project has been under construction for a gruelling 385 days in total, and after the news came that everything was finally completed, more good news comes about how traffic will run along the new Zagreb (Remetinec) roundabout.

''We're currently installing traffic lights and traffic signs and finishing off the final details. In addition, the Road Transport Commission must review everything and only then will we be able to put the Zagreb roundabout into circulation for all types of road traffic,'' said project manager Goran Radić in conversation with journalists from 24sata.

After 385 days and with a massive construction price of 331.6 million kuna, of which 273 million kuna was co-financed by European Union funds and 48 million kuna from Croatia's state budget, the completion of the Zagreb roundabout equals a bold ''tick'' next to one of the country's most demanding and significant strategic projects.

''We built the east-west tunnels at 280 metres in length. Drivers from the direction of Lučko and Novi Zagreb don't have to enter the Zagreb roundabout at all, but they can pass under it. The roadways on the north side of the roundabout, Adriatic Bridge (Jadranski most) - Adriatic Avenue (Jadranska avenija) and Dubrovnik Avenue (Avenija Dubrovnik) - Adriatic Bridge (Jadranski most), have been extended by one lane and now have four lanes, of which two lanes enter the Zagreb roundabout and two lanes act as right turners which don't enter it,'' explained Radić.

''Projections show that 40 percent of the traffic will go through tunnels, and it will be more than 30 percent less crowded on the new Zagreb roundabout,'' he concluded.
