About Us

Welcome to Total Croatia News!

The Total Project started in October 2011, when British writer Paul Bradbury decided to try and improve the information service on Croatia's premier island of Hvar. With five tourist boards on the island who rarely spoke to each other, Bradbury's guidebook, Hvar: An Insider's Guide was an attempt to unite the island's information. The book was followed by a website with the same ideal, and Total Hvar subsequently became the premier source of information about the island, with more than 9,000 articles about all aspects of life there.

He branched out beyond his adopted island shores to start new destination websites for the likes of Split, Zagreb, Inland Dalmatia and Korcula, as well as dedicated sites for sailing, wine and cycling, until the flagship Total Croatia News was launched on July 9, 2015.

The reason for Total Croatia News (TCN) is simple. Although Croatia joined the EU in 2013, and despite the fact that there are some good websites about life in Croatia in English, there was no daily news site, bringing a selection of news, politics, business, lifestyle, travel, sport and opinion, so we thought we would create on. The site now has Google News accreditation and is followed by (and often linked to) the international media.

TCN has more than 50,000 published articles on the site, covering a wide range of topics relevant to Croatia. It is a Google News-accredited site which is followed by a lot of the international media. We were delighted to bring the New York Times to Hvar in Summer 2017, as well as to be recommended by both The Guardian and The Sunday Times. In August 2017, leading Croatian daily, Jutarnji List, called TCN 'the world's most reliable information for Croatian destinations.' During the pandemic, we organised a 6-day tour of Dubrovnik for ABC News, which resulted in 6 prime time reports from the Pearl of the Adriatic, which was watched by 12.5 million people.

Bradbury has been joined by a dedicated and passionate female team, whose backbone for six years comprised Lauren Simmonds as Editor/Translator/Freelance writer, Daniela Rogulj as COO and Sports Editor, and Iva Tatic who seems to cover everything brilliantly. Katarina Andjelkovic joined us from Vukovar in November 2021.

After almost 8 years of producing up to 25 stories a day, TCN is transforming into a lifestyle magazine with news - less articles, more quality. The new-look TCN, which was launched in May 2023, will have a focus on investment, real estate, tourism, wine, returnees, business and entrepreneurship, as well as incorporating some of Bradbury's new direction into video via his YouTube channel, Paul Bradbury Croatia Expert, and TikTok.

Simmonds and Bradbury also co-wrote a book, Croatia, a Survival Kit for Foreigners.
