May 13, 2020 - The wait is over... Chops Grill is back in business with a tempting three-course menu!
On Monday, May 11, the National Civil Protection Headquarters allowed Croatian caterers the right to serve their beloved followers again - and as you can imagine, the news was welcomed with open arms.
All of us who missed indulging at our favorite restaurants in Split or sipping coffees in the sun on the Riva are now fully back in action, though, of course, in a much more careful capacity.
Disinfectants are king today, but if that's what it takes to win a seat back at Chops Grill, its safe to say that we're not thinking twice.
To celebrate their return to the Split restaurant scene, Chops is back with a three-course menu that will have the locals drooling.
For starters, you can choose between a leek and potato soup, tuna carpaccio, panzanella salad with skuta cheese, or beef tartare with toast and butter.
The price of the three-course menu is depicted by the main course you choose (from 135 to 275 kuna). For the non-meat eaters in the group, try the beet risotto with skuta cheese or the seafood linguine pasta.
Those of you partial to chicken can savor in the chicken supreme with mashed potatoes, seasonal vegetables and a reduced chicken sauce.
Since Chops specializes in beef, there are a variety of options to choose from, like the beef skewers with vegetables and dried mushrooms, served with roast potatoes, or the 300-gram rump steak stuffed with cheese and pancetta, served with roast potatoes and a blue cheese sauce.
The real winners, however, are the beef wellington, dressed with mashed potatoes and truffles, and the T-bone steak, simply served with roast potatoes.
Because no meal would be complete without dessert, you can choose to end your meal with a creme brulee foam with forest fruits and vanilla, semifreddo, chocolate brownie, or traditional rožata with lavender, rose extract and cream.
What are you waiting for?

March 3, 2020 - Chops Grill reopens on Tuesday, March 3!
After a short winter break (which felt like an eternity), Chops Grill is back from their hibernation and ready to rumble with a brand new Chopsylicious menu just in time for the spring season.
If you’re a newcomer to the wonderful world of Chops Grill, listen carefully…
Chopsylicious is a tried and true, three-course mix-and-match menu of the restaurant’s classics, with the total price reflected in the main course you choose.
So, what’s on offer this time around?
From Tuesday, March 3, 2020, restaurant-goers can choose from a starters selection of Vichyssoise soup of leek and potato, tuna belly carpaccio with shallots and a rocket salad with pomegranate and citrus, the crispy panzanella salad with skuta cheese and whole grain mustard dressing, or steak tartar.
For main courses, it’ll be hard to choose between the beetroot risotto or seafood spaghetti with squid ink sauce and local wild herbs, and that’s without mentioning the list of meat dishes on the menu.
For instance, the supreme chicken is served with seasonal vegetables and potato puree, while the beef, vegetable and plum skewers are accompanied by potato wedges. The grilled rump steak is filled with bacon and cheese, the beef wellington is wrapped in mushroom, onion, foie gras sauce and fresh black truffle, while you can never go wrong with the classic T-bone steak.
Because no meal is complete without dessert, Chops has pulled out all of the stops this spring, offering guests the fruits of forest crème brûlée, semifreddo, chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream or the traditional rožata (egg flan) with lavender, rose, and Chantilly cream.
Chops Grill is now open every day from 12 pm to 10:30 pm.

December 8, 2019 - The second Gastroadvent Sunday was held on December 8, 2019, at the finest steakhouse in Split - Chops Grill. This time, rosemary, goat cheese, wine and olive oil from Šolta, and radio journalists were in the Advent spotlight.
Gastroadvent is a unique manifestation that fuses nutrition, gastronomy, and tourism while highlighting some of Split’s favorite restaurants on the less busy days of December. For the past ten years, the event has promoted the Mediterranean diet and has left a mark through its work on Mediterranean ingredients.
Thus, every Sunday of December, valuable hosts, patrons, partners and journalists gather to honor not only the light they bring to Split, but also to recognize the integral ingredients found in the Mediterranean region.
And this year, the central ingredient of Gastroadvent is invaluable to the city of Split.
Namely, rosemary is a fundamental part of the Mediterranean diet. It is originally from Europe and has been used since ancient times when students decorated their heads with rosemary wreaths, thinking that it has a beneficial effect on memory. Rosemary leaves and the essential oil obtained by distilling leaves are officially medicinal according to European regulations. Rosemary leaf contains natural phenolic compounds and is therefore considered medicine and a spice. By its antioxidant properties, it is the most potent food. It grows on rocky soil, withstands salt and high temperatures, and its habitat is carbonate rocks.
Rosemary could not exist without its home, stone. The same stone that Diocletian's Palace is made of, which was protected 40 years ago by UNESCO. This year's Gastroadvent wreath is made of stone and was crafted by the students of the Stonemasonry School in Pucisca, Brac, which boasts 120 years of existence.
Furthermore, goat cheese is higher in nutrients than all other cheeses. Last year, archaeological excavations near Šibenik revealed that Dalmatia is the home of goat cheese. Namely, according to the American scientists who analyzed and found the DNA of fats in vessels during the excavation, goat cheese was produced in Dalmatia some 7,200 years ago!
Thus, on Sunday, the famed chef at Chops Grill crafted a unique menu illuminating these indispensable ingredients of the Mediterranean.
For starters, guests enjoyed lollipops of dates and prunes, with crumbles of hazelnut, pistachios and rosemary, Christmas eggs filled with a foam of potatoes and an aroma of Adriatic pine, truffle and rosemary sabayon, creme fraiche and caviar. The savory ‘Oreo’ was made of coffee and dehydrated black olives stuffed with foie gras cream, parmesan, and goat cheese, while the nori algae cone was filled with quinoa in rosemary oil, tuna pancetta tartar, and caviar of trout and chives.
The pasta galettes featured a spicy tomato sauce and Ichiban dashi from black Slavonian pig, while the cod confit was mixed with Mediterranean herbs, kale, potatoes, seaweed and plankton pil-pil. The warm beef wellington was served with potato and rosemary and Perigord sauce of black truffle.
For the sweet moment, in the end, guests could choose from chocolate cupcakes to doughnuts, fresh fruit, goat cheese, white chocolate, white truffle and rosemary honey, and Christmas gingerbread.
All bites were paired with the Dobričič Villa Superior wine from the island of Šolta, made from grapes of autochthonous Dobričić variety, and characterized by a dark and opaque color. It boasted an intense cherry flavor with a touch of blueberry jam, while the smell could be attributed to dried fruits such as dried figs, nuts or even dried tobacco leaves. The vineyard is located on the rocky southern part of the island and is surrounded by huge drywalls. The vineyard was planted in the early 1960s and is a monument to the time when the production of wine on Šolta was an important factor in the survival of its inhabitants. This vineyard witnessed the decline and near disappearance of this valuable variety, as well as its revitalization. Its longevity definitely affects the rich structure and robustness of this wine.
You might also recognize the Šolta Olive Oil on offer after it was crowned "The Best in Class" as the best oil in the class of environmentally friendly monosortic oil of medium intensity in the world at the New York International Olive Oil Competition back in May.
This edition of Gastroadvent even had an environmental touch, as eco nautical starter boxes were displayed to encourage keeping the Adriatic clean.
Gastroadvent is held every Sunday of Advent at a different location in Split. Total Split will be reporting all December long.

October 17, 2019 - Are you on the hunt for the best steak in Split? Look no further.
When the seasons change in Dalmatia, so do our diets - and after a summer of fish and white wine, we are more than ready for a winter of beef, beer, and a heavy red.
So, where should you bite into beef in Split? A look at the best steakhouses and BBQ’s in the city.
Chops Grill: When it comes to steak in Split, it’s hard to argue with Split’s one and only authentic steakhouse - Chops Grill. Making meat lovers on Marmontova happy for years, Chops brings the best beef to the table and is a pioneer in introducing new cuts to the people of Split - like Wagyu beef. Boasting prime meats from all over the world, Chops is where you’ll want to park for the night if you’re after a variety of cuts, from Black Angus prime rib to Tomahawk on the bone, that is guaranteed cooked to perfection. And if we had to rate them on the tender and juiciness scale, we’d call it an 11/10.
Toro Grill: If you’re after something simple, quick, but 100% quality, Toro is your number one. With orders taken at a counter and only high-top outdoor seating available, Toro isn’t trying to impress you with their looks - because they know their beef will bring you back for more. This steak shack’s menu isn’t decorated with ingredients you can’t pronounce, but instead gives you the option to choose your cut of meat, and a few sides if you’re hungry - like French fries, grilled veggies, or a seasonal salad. Whether you want the beef tenderloin, ribeye, Chicago steak or T-bone, your steak will be traditionally cooked on the grill, without all the bells and whistles.

Bosso Steak House: Popular in the summer thanks to its outdoor alleyway seating and live music, Bosso is a casual steak house with BBQ favorites. However, what sets Bosso apart is that their meat is cooked in a special KOPA oven, which is a grill and charcoal combo that exudes a unique BBQ aroma. Bosso busts out menu items such as burgers, spare ribs, and beef cuts that range from T-bone and ribeye to Tomahawk.

Bakra: Local favorite Bakra might be known for their pizzas as much as their steaks, but it’s good to know that they fail to disappoint in any area they conquer. Just outside of the historic city center, Bakra is praised for its homemade Croatian BBQ, where you can find regional delights such as cevapcici and sausages, though we think their steak BBQ is right on par. From matured ribeye to Chicago steak, t-bone to steaks drenched in sauces like truffle or green pepper, Bakra isn't afraid to do it all. We give this Split institution an A+ for atmosphere, too.

Mandrill Brewpub and Kitchen: Brand spankin’ new to the scene is Mandrill, though you might already know them for their pizza and beer. Moving on from the simple menu offered at their original location, Mandrill is taking its place on Split's meat stage with a specialty in sous vide. However, they're not afraid to pump out burgers, Philly cheesesteak sandwiches, and, of course, the tried and true Tomahawk steak. If you’re looking for something different, you’ll want to get after their beef brisket or chicken wings!

Yes, we know, this is just part of Split’s steak scene. What are your favorite places to beef out in Split?

August 13, 2019 - As we approach the halfway point of August, we are well and truly sailing through the peak of summer in Split. We are now more than accustomed to sweat-drenched clothes, tan lines, and living in our swimsuits at the beach or under air conditioners. We’re now at the point where we're counting down the days of summer to end, knowing that we’ll be wishing for it the moment the first rain falls. And we’re probably already regretting all of the things we didn’t get to do this summer, adding it to our 2020 summer bucket list, which will be hard to cross off then, too.
And while summer in Split has many perks, we’d like to argue that is gastronomy is one of the biggest.
This is where Chops Grill comes in. A summer sanctuary tucked away in the shade of Split’s busy center. It’s the perfect pop-in for a glass of wine and a feed, a hero for big groups, and a consistent and all-around satisfying chophouse that can do no wrong.
But the real beauty lies in Chops’ beef, as it should at every standout steakhouse. Since Chops Grill offers prime cuts from all over the world, we thought we’d walk you through some of its best.
Like the beef tenderloin, a filet mignon from local grain-fed Simmental beef. And if you want to travel to another part of the world, you can try the Wagyu beef striploin from Kyoto, Japan.
Chops Grill also offers a Black Angus prime rib with the bone, which is certified beef from Nebraska, corn-fed, and wet-aged. The Black Angus T-bone also comes from Nebraska, is corn-fed and wet-aged.
But you can even travel down to South America to try the striploin steak, a Black Angus grain-fed beef from Uruguay that is wet-aged, or the Black Angus ribeye steak that is Argentinian grass-fed Black Angus beef.
Moving over to Ireland, you can try the Kettyle® strip steak from "Kettyle Irish Foods”, or the Black Angus ribeye steak which is Irish grain-fed Black Angus beef and wet-aged. And if you’re really hungry? The Kettyle® tomahawk steak on the bone for two people is dry-aged Irish Black Angus ribeye, which also won two stars from the Great Taste Award in 2013.
But that’s just part of it. The T-bone steak comes from European Simmental beef that is wet-aged, the Black Angus beef tenderloin is from "Tyson Fresh Meats" Black Angus beef that is corn-fed and wet-aged, as is the Black Angus ribeye.
If you’re interested in trying any of the beef presented above, or want to entice yourself with someone else off the menu, you can find everything available at Chops here.

June 22, 2019 - Have you savored in the seafood side of Chops Grill yet?
It’s officially summer, and now that we are one day into the new season, we thought we’d welcome this new spell with something that Split does best - seafood.
We know that summer is as good an excuse as any to increase your seafood intake, that is, especially if you’re frolicking around Dalmatia. But some places do seafood better than most, and we’d like to consider Chops Grill one of the best.
Sure, they’re known for their steaks, and boy, do we love them, but for those of you looking for something a bit lighter, easier on the figure, or as the perfect complement to a summer day, we’re going to suggest you dig into the seafood side of the menu at Chops Grill.
Here’s why.
Reason number 1: Chops Grill offers lobster, yes, lobster on their menu! Namely, you can get a whole live Mediterranean lobster cut in half and grilled; served with creamy rice, citrus dressing and a Caesar dressing infused with anchovies.
Reason number 2: They stick to the classics, like langoustines (or as we like to call them, ‘scampi) prepared in Dalmatia’s savory red ‘’buzara’’ sauce with tomatoes, white wine, and garlic. And you get to enjoy this dish with spaghetti.
Reason number 3: Their selection of fish general, which you can try individually, or thanks to the ‘Chops Duet for 2’, which consists of a medley from their seafood menu. If you’re up for digging into grilled scampi, whole sea bass, tuna steak, salmon, swordfish and monkfish, served with Dalmatian potatoes and grilled vegetables, you’re in for a treat.
It would only make sense to begin your seafood feast with an appetizer from the sea, like shrimp pâté, vegetable and shrimp soup, or Mediterranean risotto - and if you're feeling dangerous, have you seen their dessert menu?
It's safe to say that this steakhouse packs in the seafood, and you won't have trouble pleasing anyone in your dinner party by dining at Chops Grill.
You can find the full menu at Chops Grill here, and follow them on Facebook here.
