September 17, 2021 - A new protein-based vaccine in Croatia will soon be put into use, produced by French pharmaceutical company Sanofi.

The director of the Croatian Institute of Public Health, Krunoslav Capak, announced at a press conference on Friday that Croatia has purchased a new protein-based vaccine produced by the French pharmaceutical company Sanofi, reports Index.hr.

Beroš: It is a different type of vaccine

"The experts have articulated more clearly that we need to expand the range. It is a different type of vaccine. The question is what the practice will show; these are protein vaccines," Health Minister Vili Beroš said at the press conference.

"It's a lot cheaper than an mRNA vaccine."

"We have ordered about 300,000 doses of the innovative vaccine. So far, we have had vector (AstraZeneca) and mRNA (Pfizer and Moderna). This is protein; it is announced that it will be very effective. It is much cheaper than the mRNA vaccine. When EMA evaluates it, we will know more," Capak said.

"Germany ordered the most, so we ordered a smaller quantity."

"We will see how things go and how they react to viruses. Other countries have ordered the same, and Germany ordered the largest quantities. We assume they have more information. When they took so many vaccines, we also ordered some smaller quantities," Capak added. 

Vaccination was completed for 49.29% of the adult population.

"Today's share of positive cases is 12.5%, in the last seven days we had 11.3%, in the past 14 days 10%, and the total since the beginning of the pandemic 14.4%. Of today's 1394 cases, 1164, or 83% have not been vaccinated. 195 or 14% have been vaccinated. We have nine deaths today, of which one person has not been vaccinated, and only one person with severe comorbidity has been vaccinated," said Capak, adding: "We are in 23rd place in the EU countries in terms of incidence rate. Poland is the lowest."

"Most of the hospitalized, seriously ill were not vaccinated and wished they were, that they were braver and wiser to get vaccinated. It will be good for everyone that has recovered and for those who do not have serious consequences. ZAGREB, 16 Sept 2021 - In the last 24 hours, Croatia has conducted 10,743 coronavirus tests, and 12.8%, that is 1,369, have returned positive, and nine patients have died, raising the COVID-related death toll to 8,472, the national COVID-19 crisis management team reported on Thursday.

There are currently 7,643 active cases, including 628 hospitalized patients, and of them, 72 are placed on ventilators. Also, 17,051 are self-isolating.

Since the first registered case of the infection with this novel virus in Croatia on 25 February 2020,  nearly 2.7 million tests have been conducted, showing that 388,260 people have caught the virus, and of the 372,145 have recovered, including 754 recoveries in the last 24 hours.

Since the start of the vaccine rollout in the country, 43.64% of the total population, or 52.38% of the adult population have got vaccinated.

The statistics show that 49.17% of the adult population has been fully vaccinated.

ZAGREB, 15 Sept, 2021 - Croatia reported a surge in the daily number of coronavirus cases on Wednesday as 1,835 new cases had been registered in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of active cases to 7,037.

Among those infected are 603 people who are hospitalised and 64 of them are on ventilators. Seven people have died in the past 24 hours.

Health Minister Vili Beroš told Parliament that Croatia was at the beginning of the fourth wave of the coronavirus pandemic.

"Today's 1,835 new infections are indeed a warning. Seven of the infected persons have died and only one of them was vaccinated. The healthcare system will be ready, but the question is whether society will be ready because not enough people have been vaccinated," Beroš said.

A similar number of cases were registered on 30 November 2020, when as many as 73 people died, and on 26 March 2021, when 16 people died.

Since 25 February 2020, when the first case was reported in Croatia, 386, 891 people have been registered as having contracted the novel virus, of whom 8,463 have died and 371,391 have recovered, including 609 in the past 24 hours. A total of 14,799 people are currently in self-isolation.

To date, 2,684,626 people have been tested for COVID-19, including 11,550 in the past 24 hours. A total of 3,341,864 doses of vaccines have been administered, with 43.53 percent of the total population or 52.26 percent of the adult population having been vaccinated. 1,766,447 people have received at least one dose and 1,655,970 of them have been fully vaccinated.

ZAGREB, 15 Sept, 2021 - The Tourism and Sports Ministry has approved HRK 15.55 million in aid to help 307 travel agencies across Croatia hit by the coronavirus crisis to normalise their current operations.

The grants range from HRK 6,460 to HRK 566,600 and the ministry has noted that the recipients will have to spend the funds for the purpose intended and submit a final report on the funds spent by 31 January 2022.

ZAGREB, 14 Sept, 2021 - Over the past 24 hours, Croatia has registered 974 new COVID-19 cases and there have been nine related deaths, while the number of active cases stands at 5,818, the national COVID-19 crisis management team said on Tuesday.

There are 600 hospitalised patients, 59 of whom are on ventilators, while 679 people have recovered.

In the last 24 hours, 10,228 people have been tested, and there are currently 13,394 people in self-isolation.

To date, 43.44% of the total population, or 52.15% of the adult population have got vaccinated.

ZAGREB, 13 Sept 2021 - In the last 24 hours, Croatia has conducted 3,871 coronavirus tests, and 167 have returned positive (4.3%), the national COVID-19 crisis management team reported on Monday.

There are currently 5,532 active cases, and 592 are hospitalized patients including 59 placed on ventilators.

In the last 24 hours, seven patients infected with coronavirus have died, raising the COVID-related death toll to 8,447.

Since the first registered case of the infection with this novel virus in Croatia, 384,082 people have caught the virus, and of them, 370,103 have recovered, including 751 recoveries in the last 24 hours.

To date, 43.37% of the total population, or 52.07% of the adult population have got vaccinated.

ZAGREB, 12 Sept, 2021 - Croatia has registered 807 new coronavirus cases and 13 COVID-19-related deaths in the last 24 hours, the national COVID-19 response team said on Sunday.

Currently, 572 infected people are receiving hospital treatment and 62 of them are on ventilators. The number of active cases stands at 6,123, and 12,468 persons are self-isolating.

Since 25 February 2020, when the first case was recorded in the country, 383,915 people have been registered as having been infected with the novel virus, of whom 8,440 have died and 369,352 have recovered, including 814 in the last 24 hours.

To date, 2,658,977 people have been tested for the virus, including 9,857 in the last 24 hours.

A total of 3,330,644 doses of vaccines have been administered so far, with 43.36% of the total population, or 52.06% of adults, having received at least one dose, while 1,649,627 adults or 48.87% have been fully inoculated.

ZAGREB, 11 Sept, 2021 - Croatia has registered 1,162 new coronavirus cases and 14 COVID-19-related deaths in the last 24 hours, the national COVID-19 response team said on Saturday.

A total of 559 infected persons are receiving hospital treatment and 55 of them are on ventilators. Currently there are 6,143 active cases in the country, and 12,937 people are self-isolating.

Since 25 February 2020, when the first case was recorded in Croatia, 383,108 people have been registered as having contracted the novel virus, of whom 8,427 have died and 368,538 have recovered, including 696 in the last 24 hours.

A total of 2,649,120 people have been tested to date, including 10,651 in the last 24 hours. 3,326,927 vaccine doses have been administered, with 43.31% of the total population, or 52% of adults, having received at least one dose. 1,647,073 persons have been fully inoculated, which is 48.80% of the adult population.

ZAGREB, 10 Sept 2021 - Croatia has registered 1,042 new coronavirus cases and eight COVID-related deaths in the last 24 hours, the national COVID-19 response team said on Friday.

The number of active cases currently stands at 5,691. Among them are 552 infected people who are receiving hospital treatment, including 59 patients who are on ventilators.

Since 25 February 2020, when the first case was reported in Croatia, 381,949 people have been registered as having contracted the novel virus, of whom 8,413 have died and 367,842 have recovered, including 678 in the last 24 hours. Currently, 11,647 people are self-isolating.

To date, 2,638,469 people have been tested for COVID-19, of whom 10,353 in the last 24 hours.

By 9 September, 3,321,265 COVID-19 vaccine doses had been administered, with 43.24% of the total population, or 51.92% of adults, having been vaccinated.

A total of 1,754,731 persons have received at least one dose of a vaccine and of them 1,643,710 have been fully inoculated (1,566,534 persons have received two doses and 77,176 have receive the single-dose Jannsen vaccine), which is 48.70% of the adult population.

September 10, 2021 - As it currently stands, there is no quarantine for tourists returning from Croatia, even though the country turned red on yesterday's new ECDC corona map. 

Even though Croatia is red on the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) corona map, thanks to the standardization of travel processes within the EU, tourist flows continue, reports HRTurizam.

The same or similar rules apply to most countries depending on the epidemiological situation in individual countries. Therefore, regardless of Croatia being in the "red", tourists who return to their home countries do not currently need self-isolation but must present a negative PCR or rapid antigen test if they are not vaccinated.

"A favorable epidemiological situation is a precondition for the best possible development of social and economic events. More than half a million tourists are still staying in Croatia, which is more than in the same period in 2019. This should be an incentive and a reminder to everyone that with responsible behavior, tourism can still achieve excellent results. Therefore, I call on everyone to continue to adhere to epidemiological recommendations and vaccinate as many as possible to protect themselves and everyone living in Croatia," said Minister of Tourism and Sports Nikolina Brnjac when the new ECDC map was released. 

To provide all travelers with everything they need on their journey, taking into account travel during the COVID-19 pandemic, an additional 350 test points have been set up across the country so that, if necessary, all tourists can be tested in accessible locations before returning to their home countries.

The Ministry of Tourism and Sports has provided the distribution of one million and 81 thousand tests at more favorable prices for tourists who spend three or more nights in commercial accommodation, and the purchased tests were distributed to the county public health institutes. Also, given the conditions on crossing borders and the interest of vaccination in tourists, vaccination in Croatia is possible for foreign citizens.

Director of the Croatian National Tourist Board Kristjan Staničić also commented on the impact of the new ECDC map:

“We do not expect that the new map will significantly affect tourist flows in the country, especially if we know that certain markets are important. Furthermore, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, the USA, etc., have their own methodology system for monitoring and publishing travel recommendations, according to which Croatia is still a safe destination. However, I hereby appeal that we all continue to adhere to the prescribed epidemiological measures and to vaccinate in as many numbers as possible to achieve the best possible tourist results by the end of September and in October," said Staničić and stated that the tourist results in the previous part of the year, in which almost 73 million overnight stays have been realized so far, confirm that the tourist season in Croatia is very successful.

According to current data, about 550,000 tourists are currently staying in Croatia, while in the record-breaking 2019, about 470,000 were in the country at this time. By the way, more than 70% of the population in the EU is vaccinated, which means that most Europeans can travel without restrictions.
