ZAGREB, 15 Aug, 2021 - In the past 24 hours, 298 coronavirus cases, out of 8,015 tests, and one death has been confirmed in Croatia, the national COVID-19 crisis management team said on Sunday.

There are 1,903 active cases and 193 hospitalised patients, including 21 on ventilators, while 5,194 persons are self-isolating.

Croatia has logged 367,022 coronavirus cases to date, including 8,283 deaths and 356,836 patients who have recovered, of which 176 in the past 24 hours.

To date, Croatia has vaccinated 41.4% of the population, including 49.7% of adults, 45.95% of whom have been fully vaccinated.

ZAGREB, 14 Aug, 2021 - The Delta coronavirus variant is the predominant one not just in Europe but Croatia as well, where it makes up 77% of the cases, epidemiologist Sanja Kurečić Filipović said on Saturday, not ruling out a tightening of restrictions if the number of cases continued to rise.

We have been seeing a continuous rise over the past month. We can ascribe it also to the inflow of foreign tourists and increased socialising, but we are entering the autumn period when the virus will have other factors in its favour, the Croatian Institute of Public Health (HZJZ) epidemiologist told the national broadcaster HRT.

She called on people to comply with COVID rules and said she hoped the vaccination numbers would increase.

She said the vaccine rollout campaign was ongoing and that the HZJZ expected interest in vaccination to increase after people returned from vacation when, she added, they would probably think about their responsibility to children going to kindergarten and school.

Ahead of tomorrow's Feast of the Assumption holiday, she called on pilgrims to comply with public transport COVID rules and to keep a distance in buildings where services were held and to wear masks indoors.

ZAGREB, 14 Aug, 2021 - In the last 24 hours, 9,194 coronavirus tests have been performed in Croatia, and of them 4%, that is 367, have come back positive, the national COVID-19 crisis management team reported on Saturday.

The COVID-19 death toll has risen by two to 8,282.

Currently, there are 1,782 active cases, and 192 patients infected with this virus are receiving hospital treatment including 20 placed on ventilators.

Since the first registered case of the infection with coronavirus in Croatia on 25 February 2020, 366,724 people have tested positive, and of them, 356,660 have to date recovered, including 223 recoveries in the last 24 hours.

One in two adult Croats vaccinated against COVID-19

Since the start of the vaccine rollout, 3,166,258 coronavirus vaccine doses have been administered in Croatia, and four in ten citizens (41.4%) have got vaccinated, or 49.7% of the adult population.

So far, nearly 1.68 million people have been given a shot, while 1.55 million have fully been vaccinated, that is 45.9% of the adult population.

ZAGREB, 13 Aug 2021 - In the past 24 hours, 308 new coronavirus cases and two deaths have been registered in Croatia, the national COVID-19 crisis management team said on Friday.

There are 1,640 active cases, including 199 hospitalised patients, 21 of whom are on ventilators, while 4,352 persons are self-isolating.

Since 25 February 2020, Croatia has registered 366,357 coronavirus cases, 8,280 deaths and 356,437 recoveries, including 218 in the past 24 hours.

So far 45.7% of the adult population has been fully vaccinated.

August 10, 2021 - With the Pharos Bayhill Hotel on Hvar full at the moment, TCN looks back at how the hotel started out back in 2016 and the newest adaptation in 2021. 

The tourist season is going well for Croatia in 2021, and if the crowded streets of coastal Croatia are not enough proof, the guest count of Pharos Bayhill Hotel in Hvar Town, one of Croatia's top island destinations, says it all. Every room is filled as a fantastic season continues for one of the swankiest accommodations on the island.

Dating back to the 60s, Hvar's Pharos Hotel, a member of the Sunčani Hvar hotel chain, received a makeover in 2016. As TCN reported on the opening party five years ago, not only did the event see Hvar's VIP and locals attending the main event, but the hotel was already filled with guests who had started arriving two weeks before the official opening. And from the very start, it targeted young people.

After a decade of no investments, Pharos was the first hotel to stand out for Sunčani Hvar. From the start, its concept was adjusted to the younger crowd, those we'd now call millennials (both those who fit the group age-wise and for anyone who feels like one).

These adjustments to the younger market were casual, informal, and evident in every single detail – from the room design (with pop art comic strip decorations) to the uniforms and the attitudes of the employees.

The hotel's target markets were the UK and US, and the effort was rewarded with success back in 2018 when the Times magazine praised Pharos for being affordable and it made it to the list of top 30 best holidays to be had in Croatia that year.

Still, one could say the price is a relative term.

Affordable for an average UK citizen, it may not really be the case for the same target groups from Croatia, Slovenia, Austria, and Germany. Pharos provides quality accommodation, but for people who don't look for four or five stars hotels, but want a quality three-star accommodation. Of course you have to be ready to pay for it.

With a quality reputation building for Pharos, the dramatic plot twist in 2020 tourism required them to adapt the hotel to achieve the success it currently enjoys.

With a brief look around the terrace and lobby, one can see staff wearing masks and watching over the guests who, in return, can feel relaxed and safe and truly take a break from the virus. These adaptations aren't evident only in Pharos which managed to keep its relaxed and casual atmosphere, but in the other members of the Sunčani Hvar hotel group as well, as modelled by the best standards from the world's top hotel companies and chains.

New procedures and standards were defined in regards to COVID-19 itself. Every employee who enters the Sunčani Hvar system is either vaccinated or tested before entering, and special room cleaning procedures were introduced. Each room has a clean seal that guarantees that the room hygiene was checked and everything is good.

In addition, the unprecedented situation which dominated 2020 saw the hotel adapt in terms of pricing too and become more accessible to Croatian tourists. In 2021, the hotel also opened its doors a little further to being more family oriented, too.

As the summer season continues, every room is filled, and while that will depend on measures and other things, current announcements are good and could push Pharos as far as September. 

Croatian epidemiological measures also suspend events and gatherings, and regular DJ nights that used to entertain the guests at Pharos are for the moment a nostalgic memory.

However, with the aforementioned changes, the terrace is still alive, with more ambient music and the intimate socialisation of guests at the other tables.

With DJ nights not being appropriate to the current situation, Pharos experience is now switched to the Mediterranian ambient, to the Mediterranian garden.

ZAGREB, 9 Aug 2021 - In the past 24 hours, 44 new coronavirus cases and one COVID-19- related death have been registered in Croatia, the national COVID-19 crisis management team said Monday.

There are 190 hospitalized patients, including 22 on ventilators.

The death toll currently stands at 8,273.

There are 1,102 active cases while 4,487 persons are self-isolating.

To date, 2,356,266 persons have been tested for the virus, including 3,909 in the past 24 hours.

Also, 41% of the population has been vaccinated, including 49.3% of adults, 45.03% of whom have completed vaccination.

ZAGREB, 8 Aug, 2021 - In the past 24 hours, 213 coronavirus cases and one COVID death have been registered in Croatia, the national COVID-19 crisis management team said on Sunday.

There are 1,231 active cases and 175 hospitalised patients, including 18 on ventilators, while 4,100 persons are self-isolating.

To date, 2,352,357 persons have been tested for the virus, including 6,991 in the past 24 hours.

Also, 41% of the population has been vaccinated, including 49.2% of adults, 44.99% of whom have completed vaccination.

ZAGREB, 7 Aug, 2021 - Croatian Public Health Institute (HZJZ) Assistant Director Marija Bubaš has said that the epidemiological situation in Croatia is good but that caution is necessary as the number of new infections has been on the rise.

"Everyone adhering to epidemiological restrictions is contributing to keeping the situation under control, and we cannot relax entirely. Quite the contrary, we must comply with restrictions and get vaccinated as it takes more than one week to start developing immunity in a satisfactory way," Bubaš told Hina on Saturday.

She noted that now was the right time to protect public health, the situation in the tourism sector and the economy.

This particularly refers to the coastline considering that coastal counties have lower vaccination rates, with Dubrovnik-Neretva and Split-Dalmatia counties being the most exposed, with a large number of tourists staying there. In some destinations, the number of visitors exceeds the number of local residents by five times.

"We cannot be certain that tourists who have entered Croatia with a negative test were not in a period of incubation when they got tested. Such people can develop the disease in Croatia and spread it further. We need to comply with epidemiological restrictions because the situation may escalate. We have to be aware that regardless of the measures taken, we are part of a larger environment where the infection is still spreading," Bubaš said.

ZAGREB, 7 Aug, 2021 - In the past 24 hours, 233 coronavirus cases and one COVID-19 death have been registered in Croatia, the national crisis management team said on Saturday.

There are 1,201 active cases and 166 hospitalised patients, including 18 on ventilators, while 4,130 persons are self-isolating.

To date, 2,345,366 persons have been tested for the virus, including 7,832 in the past 24 hours.

Croatia has registered 364,832 coronavirus cases to date, including 8,271 deaths and 355,360 recovered patients, 170 of whom have recovered in the past 24 hours.

Croatia has vaccinated 40.9% of its total population, including 49.2% of adults, 44.89% of whom have completed vaccination.

ZAGREB, 6 Aug 2021 - Over the past 24 hours, Croatia has registered 108 new coronavirus cases and no deaths, the national coronavirus crisis management team said on Friday.

The number of active cases today stands at 1,139. There are 163 hospitalised patients, including 16 who are on ventilators, and 4,078 people are in self-isolation.

A total of 2,337,984 people have been tested to date, 5,643 of whom over the past 24 hours.

To date, Croatia has registered 364,599 coronavirus infections, including 8,270 deaths and 355,190 recoveries, of which 190 in the last 24 hours.

As at 5 August, 3,110,259 vaccine doses have been administered, with 40.8% of the total population and 49.1% of the adult population having been vaccinated.

A total of 1,657,443 persons have been vaccinated with at least one dose and 1,506,904 of them have been fully vaccinated, which represents 44.71% of the adult population.
