Wildfire Response Receives High Marks

ZAGREB, September 27, 2018 - The government on Thursday congratulated the entire fire-fighting sector and local government on their response to recent wildfires on the Marjan hill overlooking Split and in Orebić, Kula Norinska, Posedarje and Konavle along the coast.

No Major Wildfires in Croatia This Summer

ZAGREB, August 21, 2018 - Prime Minister Andrej Plenković toured on Monday the Fire Coordination Centre at Divulje in Split, saying that this year significant changes had been made with regard to firefighting activities and that the area consumed by wildfires was 98% smaller than last year. "We have learned a lesson from the situation in 2017," he said but warned that it is necessary to remain cautious for the remainder of the fire season.

County Fire Chief Acquitted for Kornati Wildfire Tragedy

ZAGREB, April 27, 2018 - In a retrial before the Zadar County Court, Šibenik fire chief Dražen Slavica was acquitted for a second time pending appeal on charges of being responsible for a tragedy that occurred on the Kornati islands in 2007, in which 13 firemen, sent to the island to put out a wildfire, were killed.

New Wildfire Monitoring System Coming to Dalmatia

ZAGREB, March 22, 2018 - Executives from the national forest management company, Hrvatske Šume, and the Transmitters and Communications company, on Thursday signed a contract valued at 20 million kuna to set up a video surveillance system intended to monitor and warn of wildfires in four Dalmatian counties – Zadar, Šibenik-Knin, Split-Dalmatia and Dubrovnik-Neretva.
