Bosnian Leaders Again Fail to Agree Election Law Changes

ZAGREB, April 26, 2018 - The leaders of Bosnia and Herzegovina's Croat HDZ BiH party and political parties that have a predominantly Bosniak membership met again in Sarajevo on Wednesday in an attempt to agree last-minute changes to the election law, but the meeting ended inconclusively.

Bosnian Leaders Deny Allegations of Islamic Radicalisation

ZAGREB, April 10, 2018 - Bosniak political parties and associations, together with the Islamic community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, strongly believe that the country can function only as a secular state and resolutely deny accusations that their real plan is to establish an Islamic state – this is the key message of a meeting the chair of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Presidency Bakir Izetbegović held in Sarajevo on Tuesday with prominent Bosniak officials and leaders of cultural and non-governmental organisations and the leader of the Islamic community Husein Kavazović.

Plenković Discusses Bosnia's Election Legislation and EU Bid

ZAGREB, April 10, 2018 - Croatia's Prime Minister Andrej Plenković and the Croat member of the Bosnia and Herzegovina tripartite presidency Dragan Čović held talks in Mostar on Tuesday and on that occasion they expressed expectations that the ruling of Bosnia's Constitutional Court on amending the election legislation would be implemented in a timely fashion to ensure the full equality of all the three constituent peoples in the country.

Croatian Prime Minister to Visit Mostar

ZAGREB, April 9, 2018 - Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković will pay a two-day visit to Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and on Monday he will attend the formal opening of the office of the Croatian Chamber of Commerce whereas on Tuesday he will attend the opening ceremony of the 21st International Economy Fair in that biggest town in Herzegovina, the Croatian government stated in a press release on Sunday.

Croatian Minister Discusses Stability of Bosnia and Herzegovina

ZAGREB, April 6, 2018 - Croatia's Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Marija Pejčinović Burić said in Sarajevo on Thursday that the Croatian government wants to see Bosnia and Herzegovina as a stable, prosperous and sovereign country in which all three constituent peoples and citizens are equal.

Ahead of Elections, “Alarming” Period in Bosnia and Herzegovina

ZAGREB, April 4, 2018 - Bosnia and Herzegovina has entered an "alarming" political period that could get additionally dangerously complicated as political parties are evidently not willing to change electoral legislation to ensure the regularity of elections scheduled for October, said a local coalition of nongovernmental organisations called "Pod lupom" (Under Scrutiny), which monitors the regularity of the election process in the country based on the model of Croatia's GONG NGO.

EU, USA Call for Changes to Bosnia's Electoral Legislation

ZAGREB, March 29, 2018 - The EU's Special Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Lars Gunnar Wigemark, and US Ambassador Maureen Cormack on Thursday issued a joint statement calling on local politicians to reach agreement on amending the country's electoral legislation in line with the Constitutional Court's ruling in a case filed by Croat politician Božo Ljubić so as to protect the rights of all constituent peoples in the election of deputies to the Croat-Bosniak entity parliament's upper chamber called the House of Peoples, and warning that otherwise a serious political crisis could break out.
