January the 17th, 2023 - Ericsson Nikola Tesla has been provided very ample funds from the European Union (EU) for the development of Split smart traffic software which would bring about numerous benefits.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, as you may have read previously, Ericsson Nikola Tesla contracted jobs worth more than 1.8 million euros without VAT for a project called ''The introduction of intelligent transport systems in the functional traffic area of the City of Split".

The tasks involved are related to the implementation of a Split smart traffic software solution intended for management in the control centre, as well as for informing road users. On top of that, it will also involve the delivery of a reliable communication backbone.

As part of the contract, Ericsson Nikola Tesla will establish and maintain a Split smart traffic software solution for the Dalmatian city's Traffic Control and Surveillance Centre, including the creation of an information backbone for the "Traffic Management - traffic light system and adaptive traffic management" subsystem, as well as develop and implement a mobile application (app) for the informing of road users.

The aforementioned project, commissioned by the City of Split and implemented by King ICT and Ericsson Nikola Tesla, is worth more than 9.5 million euros in total (without VAT) and is being co-financed through the EU Competitiveness and Cohesion Operational Programme 2014-2020.

The system and equipment of the aforementioned project will be integrated and implemented according to the "design and build" principle, and the expected duration of the contract is 32 months.

Thanks to its technological performance, such an intelligent transport system will contribute to the increase of traffic efficiency, safety and sustainability across the area of its implementation, as well as to the reduction of traffic congestion and the emission of harmful gases.

January the 5th, 2022 - Ericsson Nikola Tesla has contracted work in the impressive amount of 2.4 million euros, carrying out jobs related to the much talked about digital transformation of multiple Croatian ministries.

As Poslovni Dnevnik/Josipa Ban writes, at the very beginning of this year, Ericsson Nikola Tesla signed new contracts with Croatian state and public institutions worth 2.4 million euros. These contracts, according to the press release of one of the largest Croatian technology companies of all, are aimed at digital transformation.

Throughout the rest of this year, Ericsson Nikola Tesla will work on the digital transformation of the Ministry of Culture and Media, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) and the ''Dr. Fran Mihaljevic'' Clinic for Infectious Diseases in Zagreb.

For the Ministry of Culture and Media, which is headed by Nina Obuljen Korzinek, Ericsson Nikola Tesla will work on the development of the National Archival Information System, the purpose of which is to improve the management of documentary and archival material within the state administration and within other such public services, and to increase the availability and usability of information for all who require access to it.

On the other hand, as the aforementioned press release states, cooperation in the field of green border protection continues, as part of which new mobile systems for monitoring the green border will be delivered in the summer of 2023. This project will be realised in cooperation with the companies Securitas Hrvatska (Croatia) and Hidraulika promet (traffic).

When it comes to the work Ericsson Nikola Tesla will carry out for the ''Dr. Fran Mihaljevic'' Clinic for Infectious Diseases,  a contract was signed on the maintenance of their integrated hospital information system. The amounts of each individual contract haven't been specified, but with the total sum being as high as it is, it can be safely said that Ericsson Nikola Tesla is starting the year as it hopefully means to go on.

As Poslovni Dnevnik/Darko Bicak writes on the 5th of November, 2020, the Zagreb tech company Ericsson Nikola Tesla (ENT), part of the Swedish Ericsson Group, has contracted a contract worth almost HRK 370 million to introduce eHealth in Belarus, which has thus become the fourth country in which ENT is digitising healthcare.

According to the aforementioned Zagreb tech company, the job is related to the implementation of the Central Software Platform for the Centralised e-Health System of the Republic of Belarus. The estimated duration of the platform implementation project is 2.5 years, and the contract also covers a three-year warranty period. Ericsson NT explained that the contract is the result of a two-stage tender within the World Bank project P156778 "Belarus Health System Modernisation Project", which is financed by a loan from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

The signatory of the contract is the Republic Scientific and Practical Centre for Medical Technologies, Informatisation, Administration and Health Management, which is an agency of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus. Gordana Kovacevic, President of the Management Board of ENT, pointed out that she is proud of such a significant contract concluded in the field of eHealth, which is an additional confirmation of the Zagreb tech company's significant references in this area, here in Croatia and abroad.

''The fact that the World Bank has recognised us as a quality partner shows that our focused strategy in this area and our company's long-term investment in creating a strong team of experts in the required domain of knowledge brings new success. In this project, we're going to pay special attention to risk management given its complexity and specificity of the situation,'' said Kovacevic.

The Zagreb tech company also went on to explain that this contract continues a series of successes in the field of eHealth based on the company's long-term investment in creating a quality portfolio and an excellent team of experts who possess all of the necessary knowledge in this particular area.

''Back in 2007, our first success was achieved, the integrated information system of primary healthcare in Croatia (CEZIH) was put into operation, to which the company has continuously added new functionalities over the years. At the beginning of October this year, a new three-year agreement was signed on the support, maintenance and upgrade of the programme base of the central part of the integrated Central Health Information System of Croatia. We also have references related to eHealth outside of Croatia - in the last six years, the company has implemented similar projects in Armenia and Kazakhstan,'' they stated from the company.

Last week, this Zagreb tech company announced its financial results for the first nine months of an otherwise troublesome 2020, according to which their net profit amounted to HRK 67.2 million, which is 16.8 percent less than in the same period last year. ENT's sales revenues in the first nine months of this year amounted to HRK 1.44 billion, which is 15.2 percent more than in the same period last year. In terms of total sales revenue, the share of the Croatian market stands at 46 percent, services for Ericsson stand at 44 percent and other export markets stand at ten percent. Gross profit amounts to HRK 124.5 million, which is 1.2 percent less when compared to the same period last year, and profit before tax is lower by 19.7 percent, amounting to HRK 75.1 million. The financial report states, among other things, that this Zagreb tech company company has a solid balance sheet with total assets at the end of September of HRK 1.12 billion, which is 17.7 percent higher than back at the end of 2019.

Gordana Kovacevic estimated that despite the difficult business conditions due to the ongoing situation with the coronavirus pandemic, as well as significant political instabilities in some of their export markets, more specifically the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, during the first nine months of 2020, the company achieved solid business results.

When refering to the 12.5 percent growth in sales revenue when compared to the same period last year, she stated that this is primarily the result of taking full responsibility for the delivery of services for the construction and maintenance of telecommunications infrastructure of Hrvatski Telekom/Croatian Telecom (HT/CT) and activities aimed at introducing 5G standards within that network, which were otherwise put it into trial this week.

This Zagreb tech company expects a lot from the beginning of the commercial introduction of 5G here in Croatia during the first half of 2021, after HAKOM announces the conditions and allocates the radio frequency spectrum.

The Croatian Ericsson Nikola Tesla has encouragingly signed contracts worth more than 84 million kuna on the export markets of neighbouring Bosnia and Herzegovina, Belarus and Moldova, all of which are European nations outside of the European Union and the European Economic Area (EEA).

The contracts this impressive figure regards cover mobile network extensions, which will mostly be realised throughout 2020, and network maintenance in the forthcoming period.

Network maintenance with Bosnia and Herzegovina's HT Eronet has been contracted for two years, and the other companies with which the Croatian Ericsson Nikola Tesla has contracted jobs with are the Moldovan operator IDC for the virtualisation of their IP multimedia subsystem (IMS), and with BeCloud from Belarus for the extension of the LTE network.

ZAGREB, November 7, 2019 - Ericsson Nikola Tesla (ERNT) on Thursday marked its 70th anniversary and on that occasion, President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović said that the company had been setting a positive example for the domestic business community for years.

"We can be proud of having such a company in a sector that is crucial for the development of technologies," Grabar-Kitarović said at the anniversary-marking ceremony, noting that companies like ERNT raised the level of competitiveness of the Croatian economy and that Croatia needed the competence, excellence, innovation and social responsibility that characterised the company.

ERNT president Gordana Kovačević said that the company was the first on the list of domestic exporters of know-how. Its experts contribute to the development of ICT and promote Croatia and its people that way, she said, adding that the company was oriented to the future and creation of new opportunities, that it constantly researched and developed new solutions and that it had become a strong research and development centre.

Kovačević also expressed hope that Croatia's presidency of the Council of the EU would help create new opportunities for research and development and boost the competitiveness of the ICT sector.

Economy Minister Darko Horvat, who also addressed the event, said that in the last three years 9.8 billion kuna had been invested in research and development, while in 2018 investments totalled 3.7 billion, 18.7% more than the year before.

This year, investments in research and development will amount to 1% of GDP, he said.

The former Nikola Tesla company was founded in Zagreb on 31 October 1949. At the time, it employed 113 workers. Opting for the production of automatic telephone exchanges, in 1953 the company signed a licence agreement with Ericsson thus becoming one of its first licence partners in the world. In the late 1950s, the company started with first exports, to the former Soviet Union.

Since its establishment the company has been one of the biggest suppliers of telecommunications solutions in Central and Eastern Europe.

In the early 1990s more intensive activities were launched to transform and privatise the until then socially-owned company. Eventually Ericsson and the Croatian Privatisation Fund in 1995 signed an agreement on the sale of a 49.07% stake in Nikola Tesla, which made Ericsson its biggest single owner.

Small shareholders obtained ownership of 49.98% of the company's shares while the Croatian Privatisation Fund kept the ownership of a 0.95% interest.

In the last 20 years ERNT has built its reputation as a supplier of modern ICT products, solutions, software and services and it has operated, on an equal footing with other members of Ericsson, in the field of modern communications technologies and creation of global communications trends.

ERNT is a leading domestic ICT company employing more than 3,200 mostly highly educated workers. More than 1,500 of its employees work in the biggest domestic research and development centre. ERNT is the leading exporter in the country.

According to its latest financial report, in the first nine months of 2019 ERNT earned HRK 80.8 million in consolidated net profits, an increase of 29.6% from the same period of last year.

Sales amounted to 1.25 billion kuna, up 16% from the same period of last year. Domestic sales accounted for 24.4% of total revenues, services for Ericsson accounted for 60.6% while exports to other markets accounted for 15% of total revenues.

ZAGREB, April 23, 2019 - Ericsson Nikola Tesla and Rune Crow have signed a contract for the implementation of broadband optical network access in rural areas of Istria County and Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, Ericsson Nikola Tesla said on Tuesday.

The "Rural Network Project (RUNE) is the first and currently the only international project at the European level which connects the territory of several member countries by a unique cross-border optical network," the company said in a press release.

"With the construction of the network in rural areas which are currently not covered by optical infrastructure and where existing Internet service providers have no commercial interest, RUNE will help local authorities to achieve the goals of the Digital Agenda for Europe 2020.

Moreover, this will contribute to the liberalization of the electronic communication service market. In the end, this guarantees all operators an equal approach to end users under equal conditions."

The project is financed by the Connecting Europe Broadband Fund (CEBF), as the first investment platform for the support of broadband infrastructure within the European Fund for Strategic Investment (EFSI), the company said.

ZAGREB, February 20, 2019 - Ericsson Nikola Tesla generated a net profit of 113.6 million kuna in 2018, an increase of 67.4% over the previous year, the telecommunications equipment manufacturer said in a financial statement on Wednesday.

Sales revenue increased by 5.2% to 1.56 billion kuna. The domestic market accounts for 23.9% of total sales revenue, services for Ericsson account for 61.3 percent, of which 11.4% relate to managed services in Croatia), while other export markets account for 14.8%.

"The domestic market recorded a significant growth in sales revenue due to operators’ investment in mobile networks modernisation and digital transformation projects. The export markets recorded lower sales revenue affected primarily by the ramping down of network modernisation projects and challenging economic and political environments in some markets. The Ericsson market continuously records solid growth and contributes to the overall stability of financial performance. Export accounts for 65% of the Group’s total sales revenue," CEO Gordana Kovačević said.

In the domestic market, sales revenue totalled 372.6 million kuna, up 34.7% in comparison with 2017. In the Ericsson market, sales revenue increased by 3.2% to 955.8 million kuna and in the export markets (excluding the Ericsson market) it fell by 17.7% to 229.8 million kuna.

Other key indicators also showed growth. Gross profit rose by 7.0% to 161.4 million kuna and operating profit went up by 56.3% to 118.3 million kuna.

"The strong growth in operating profit is due to higher gross profit, lower sales and administrative costs, and projects realised in line with the Investment Promotion Act," Kovačević said.

In the third quarter of the year, the company initiated a new cycle of strategic planning for the period 2019-2023.

"In the upcoming period we expect new business opportunities, as well as challenges. As a response to a demanding market environment, we closely cooperate with customers to fully understand their needs, we adjust our organisation and ways of working, and invest in our employees’ competencies development and our technology leadership. We remain focused on cost and operating efficiency, capital efficiency and strategic risk management. Even though costs related to strategic contracts and 5G field trials will impact profitability short term, they will strengthen our business and market position in the long term," Kovačević said.

ZAGREB, Dec 10, 2018 - Ericsson Nikola Tesla Management Board chair Gordana Kovačević was named the most powerful businesswoman in Croatia at the 8th international conference "Women in Business", held in Zagreb last Thursday.

The country's 300 most powerful business women were named at the conference, and the top ten include Energia Naturalis Management Board member Sabina Škrtić, Zagrebački Holding Management Board chair Ana Stojić Deban, European Association of Public Banks Board member Tamara Perko, and Lada Tedeschi Fiorio, deputy chair of the Atlantic Group Supervisory Board.

Euroherc Management Board chair Ivana Bratanić is placed sixth, followed by Philip Morris general director Anita Letica, Croatian Employers Association president Gordana Deranja, the director of Siemens for Croatia and Slovenia, Medeja Lončar, and Coca-Cola HBC Adria director Ruža Tomić Fontana.

Finnish Deputy Ambassador Virpi Turunen, whose country was a partner to the conference, said that Finland was one of the world's least corrupt countries and noted that there was a clear connection between prominent representation of women in managerial positions and a low level of corruption.

Work on gender equality contributes to dealing with the problem of corruption and its effects on the democratic system, Turunen said.
