Second Croatian Glovo Express Store Opens Doors in Zagreb

October the 18th, 2022 - The second Croatian Glovo Express store has opened its doors here in the City of Zagreb, more precisely on Zagrebacka cesta.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, Glovo, one of the world's leading applications for the delivery of multiple categories of products, including food from a very wide variety of restaurants, has opened a second Croatian Glovo Express store in the heart of the capital city.

This means that more than 2,500 different products from different categories are now available to customers from the western part of the City of Zagreb within the Glovo application, such as: fruit and vegetables, drinks, dairy products, snacks, sweets, personal hygiene products, home cleaning products, while the product range is listed exclusively in the Glovo application itself.

The first Croatian Glovo Express store was opened back in November 2021 on Zagreb's Radnicka cesta and, according to representatives of Glovo, it has been an exceptional success so far. The two stores in the City of Zagreb are strategically positioned to ensure optimal coverage of the Croatian capital, and users also have the option of personal pickup should they do wish.

"The launch of another Croatian Glovo Express store and the transition to a new, higher level of on-demand delivery is a key moment in time for us, but also a positive impact on the level of interest of our users. This is just a continuation of our focus on listening to our customers' needs and providing ultra-fast delivery for a wide range of products. Thanks to our well-organised in-store operations, our team will prepare a customer's order in less than three minutes and deliver it to their doorstep in less than thirty minutes. With this second store, Glovo Express' delivery area will cover more than 80 percent of the City of Zagreb, which is a guarantee ofthe  quality and timely delivery of products to our customers," said Drago Cota, general director of Glovo Hrvatska/Croatia.

The working hours of the new Croatian Glovo Express store are from Monday to Sunday from 09:00 to 00:00 and as stated by Glovo, the plan is to further expand the network and assortment in accordance with consumer needs as we go forward.

Croatians Ordered 1.7m Burgers on Glovo in Past 12 Months

ZAGREB, 29 May 2022 - Over the past 12 months Croatians ordered more than 1.7 million burgers on Glovo, which makes Croatia one of the ten countries where Glovo operates with the largest number of burger orders, Glovo said this past Friday ahead of International Hamburger Day, 28 May.

A total of 850,000 burgers were ordered by residents of Zagreb on Glovo in the past year. Zagreb is followed by Sisak, where 34% of orders on Glovo were burgers, and by Velika Gorica, Varaždin, Rijeka and Karlovac.

Croatians most frequently order cheeseburgers, classic hamburgers and chicken burgers and they order them most often on Fridays and Saturdays, between 8 and 9 pm.

Glovo, a Spanish on-demand courier service that purchases, picks up, and delivers products ordered through its mobile app, has been active in Croatia since 2019. It entered the Croatian market in Zagreb, after which it expanded its business to a dozen other cities.

First Glovo Express Store in Croatia Opens for Suppliers 0-24h, Every Day

November 17, 2021 - The first Glovo Express store in Croatia intended for Glovo suppliers will work 0-24h every day of the year, acting as a micro-logistics facility that speeds up delivery.

Glovo, the largest player in the delivery application market in Croatia, has opened its own store, reports Jutarnji List.

Namely, Glovo Express is a store that is not intended for end customers but Glovo suppliers and works 0-24h every day of the year. The concept of the new Glovo store is called the Micro Fulfilment Center, which means that it is a micro-logistics facility that speeds up delivery. If compared to hitherto known businesses, Glovo Express would be a cross between a post office, a local store, and a micro warehouse.

Victor Răcariu, Glovo's CEO for Southeast Europe, says he will open another store in Croatia by the end of the year.

"The launch of Glovo Express on the Croatian market and the transition to a new, higher level of delivery on demand is a key moment for us, but also a positive impact in the interest of our customers," says Răcariu.

He explains that they can strengthen the business with the delivery of goods sold by retail chains. Of course, this primarily applies to perishable consumer goods such as vegetables, fruits, frozen and dairy products. But it also opens up space for faster delivery of all other products that citizens buy in retail chains, such as beverages, sweets, and products for children and animals.

Bojan Barišić, head of Glovo Express stores for Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, and Serbia, says that he will expand the delivery offer in Zagreb by 1,500 products.

"Further expansion of the Glovo Express store network is planned for next year," says Barišić.

Although the pandemic led to an explosion of delivery on demand (Quick commerce), this trend continued this year. Therefore, in 2021, companies from online commerce, postal delivery, and mobile delivery applications (Q-commerce) in Croatia have started to strengthen their logistics infrastructure to make their businesses more sustainable and prepare them for further online sales, which is supposed to have the potential to double in a short period.

Croatian Post, DPD, and the largest online retailer eKupi already have their parcel machines and expand their network.

"This year, Glovo signed a strategic agreement with the Swiss real estate company Stoneweg, in which it undertook to invest 100 million euros in the construction and renovation of real estate in the capitals of key markets in which it operates," says Barišić.

He explains that Glovo can connect a more significant number of sales partners to the application by strengthening its delivery infrastructure.

"Glovo Express is a response to changes in consumer behavior and demands for ultra-fast delivery. Micro Fulfilment Centers are the future of commerce, and we expect them to impact lasting changes in consumer habits. It is a step towards immediate or delivery on the same day," says Barišić.

A year ago, Glovo positioned itself as the largest player in the industry of mobile delivery applications. Last year, according to Fina, the company had a revenue of HRK 48.9 million. But it's also the fastest way to fry cash. As a result, it ended in 2020 with a loss of HRK 21.8 million. The other two competitors, Wolt and Bolt, lag significantly behind in revenue but are profitable, albeit with very low amounts.

By the end of the year, it plans to open more than a hundred Glovo Express stores in 50 cities in 16 states. In addition to Croatia, it is opening its Micro Fulfillment Centers in Slovenia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Spain, Italy, Ukraine, Kenya, and Morocco.

Glovo Has Delivered 9 Million Products Throughout Croatia in Last Two Years

ZAGREB,  2 May 2021 - Glovo, an on-demand courier service that purchases, picks up, and delivers products ordered through its mobile app, has delivered more than 9 million products in the first two years of its operation in Croatia, the Glovo Croatia company reported recently.

In 2019, the first Croatian city where it started doing business was Zagreb, and currently Glovo operates in 11 more cities in the country: Split, Osijek, Zadar, Rijeka, Slavonski Brod, Sisak, Pula, Karlovac, Varaždin and Velika Gorica.

One in five Croatians has downloaded Glovo app

According to the company's data, one in five Croatians have downloaded the Glovo application, and more than a thousand local "glovers" have delivered nearly nine million products and covered 12 million kilometres providing those services in the last two years.

Glovo is the app that connects users, businesses and couriers to make that possible. The project was launched with the aim of transforming the way users acquire what they need, making cities more accessible.

The company underscores that since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, its deliveries in Croatia increased by 500% compared to the pre-pandemic period.

It notes that, for example, food is the most frequently transported product by glovers, and the most frequently ordered fruits via Glovo app are bananas (20 tonnes). Glovers have to date delivered more than 70,000 litres of milk. When it comes to fast food, the most frequently delivered products are burgers and pizza.

Burgers, Pizza and More: Croatian Food Delivery During Pandemic Skyrockets

March the 21st, 2021 - Croatian food delivery during the pandemic reached new heights as the majority of people were working from home, not working at all, or just fancied a taste of the food from beloved restaurants which at that time had only deliveries as a way of remaining operational.

Wolt, Glovo, Pauza and other perfectly square shaped bags attached to people hurrying along on bikes or motorcycles has become the norm in cities such as Zagreb, but just how much food have we in Croatia been ordering since the pandemic struck?

As Poslovni Dnevnik/Sergej Novosel Vuckovic writes, while most people were busy wearing only half an outfit for their zoom meetings as they worked from home, others worked out there in the field more intensively than ever, making sure that everyone who was at home could still get their hands on some of their favourite foods, even if some were coronavirus patients who likely couldn't even taste it.

One year ago, Croatian food delivery services became a much needed part of life as the "new normal" took hold, into which we were drawn by the pandemic, and in that sense the likes of Glovo proved to be a reliable partner for many Croatian residents ordering food, medicine, or other items.

"Croatian food deliveries using the Glovo application have increased by more than 300 percent since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic here in Croatia when compared to the time before the pandemic hit", they stated from Glovo, revealing what was most ordered and where.

Pauza, Wolt and others are also heavily present in various Croatian cities, and Glovo for example is present across eleven cities (Zagreb, Split, Rijeka, Osijek, Zadar, Sisak, Pula, Karlovac, Velika Gorica, Varazdin and Slavonski Brod). Data from the analysis of orders indicate that people's purchasing preferences have changed considerably because habits themselves have altered.

The differences by cities also speak about the cultural peculiarities of their inhabitants during the pandemic.

"Users in Zagreb ate twice as many carrots as those in Split did, but in Split, it seems, fresh cucumber salad was more popular than carrots were. Despite the disagreement in the preferences related to salads, both the citizens of Zagreb and the people of Split agreed on one thing - the inhabitants of both cities love beer very much,'' Glovo stated humourously.

Burgers which have been an absolute hit at various streetfood festivals over recent years, with the temporary disappearance of mass gatherings of people, have also quickly had to move online - so many have been ordered in the past 12 months that, stacked side by side, they would be as long as the entire Adriatic Highway, meaning that burgers were frequent ''riders'' in the bags of Croatian food delivery services.

Not only that, all of the Pizzas bought through Glovo in Croatia would form, if stacked, a tower as tall as 36 Zagreb cathedrals (with or without the cross which destroyed back in the earthquake last year).

"Glovo users ate 1,500 kilograms more oranges during the pandemic than they did before, and one of the most sought-after terms in the app at the beginning of the lockdown was - yeast, whose order and sales volumes were so high that more than 5000 loaves of bread could have been baked from it!'' they pointed out from this Croatian food delivery app.

In addition to food and drink, flowers were ordered thousands of times throughout the year as the opportunity to deliver them to loved ones and put a little smile on their faces during these dark times always seemed to be attractive.

Glovo Takes to Split, Also Plans for Expansion to Other Cities

After Wolt finally arrived in Split, so did Glovo...

As Poslovni Dnevnik/Darko Bicak writes on the 30th of September, 2019, the main delivery service from the popular Glovo is now available in the City of Split, as has been learned from the company's headquarters in Zagreb.

In a mere six months, this delivery service has become very popular in the capital, where thousands of residents order food through Glovo, and in addition, the service performs a wide variety of micro-deliveries, from items from the store and the pharmacy to forgotten keys or simple package deliveries.

Teo Širola, General Manager for Glovo Croatia, explained that they have about 500 more or less permanent employees for delivery in Zagreb, while in Split, the estimate is that they will need 200 people or so when the business develops and starts gaining the same level of popularity it has in Zagreb.

"As most of our contractors do this job as a job on the side, the numbers and the structure fluctuates alongside the schoo/academic year. Many of our workers are students who can't work during their exam periods, but we manage to cover all workforce requirements because we don't depend on just a single group of workers,'' Teo explained.

Teo adds that they plan to expand the number of employees delivering for Glovo in Zagreb, where their oldest supplier is 72 years old, and in addition, after Split, they plan to expand and become present in all major cities in Croatia by the end of the year.

Glovo's arrival to Split was initially planned for mid-September, but as Širola explains, due to optimisation of the number of suppliers, they decided to postpone their entrance by around ten days.

"In record time, Glovo will ''create'' fresh croissants or juices, deliver urgently needed business documentation, cycle through the city to deliver a bouquet of flowers for an anniversary, birthday, or reconciliation to the door of loved ones.

There are definitely more serious situations, too, such as the delivery of medicines we can't do without or ''crisis'' situations like celebrations when all the drinks and food are gone, that goes for anything, even when the condoms are gone,'' they explain from Glovo with a smile. The popular deliver platform that has more than three million users worldwide today.

It has more than 10,000 partners globally and a network of some 30,000. Glovo was launched in Barcelona, Spain back in 2015 and is present in more than 100 cities in 22 countries today.

After Conquering Zagreb, Glovo Takes to Another Croatian City

If you've spent any time in the Croatian capital of Zagreb over the last year or so, you'll likely have noticed a growing abundance of people riding around on bicycles with yellow bags on their backs. The now very popular Glovo delivery service, which delivers everything from food to medical supplies and... well... anything and everything else, began operating in Zagreb not so long ago.

Glovo is otherwise a Spanish startup founded back in 2015 in Barcelona. Its mobile app allows users to make purchases, arrange pick ups and deliveries, with food delivery being naturally among the most popular reasons to use the service.

The delivery service soared in popularity when it came to Zagreb, offering employment as well as ease of access to typically very quick delivery services, and in an environmentally friendly way, by bike, on top of all that. McDonald's restaurants in three city locations recently decided to use the service to deliver their food to customers, and the move of Glovo being the one to finally bring the old desire for McDonald's to do home deliveries has of course proven successful.

Now that Glovo has its claws well and truly into the Croatian capital, it wants to expand to yet another Croatian city, the second largest - Split.

As Poslovni Dnevnik/Darko Bicak writes on the 13th of September, 2019, Teo Širola, General Manager for Glovo Croatia pointed out that in Zagreb they were convinced that Glovo's entry had been a complete and utter transformation of the fast delivery domain in the Republic of Croatia.

As such, Glovo is taking to Dalmatia and their main delivery services will be available in Split as of this coming Monday, as was found out from the headquarters of the company in Zagreb. As stated, in just six months, this service has become very popular in Zagreb, where thousands of citizens order food through Glovo, and allow the service to perform a variety of micro-deliveries, from food from the store, medication from the pharmacy, to forgotten keys or the delivery of other packages.

Teo Širola stated that after Glovo's experience in over a hundred cities in twenty countries and across three continents, the company is now secure and is ready for Split.

From Barcelona to Zagreb, Spanish Startup Employs 65 People

A successful Spanish startup which has spread to 105 cities in twenty countries in Europe, Africa, and Central and South America since 2015 has begin operations in no less than Zagreb.

As Marta Duic/Poslovni Dnevnik writes on the 23rd of April, 2019, Glovo, a fast delivery application (app) which allows customers to purchase, receive and send any products within the city within less than 45 minutes, has started its operations in the Croatian capital city of Zagreb.

"For now, Glovo has employed seven people in the ''core'' team in Zagreb, eighteen in customer support and fifty delivery people. Therefore, a total of 65 people are in employed in this operation, we're only just beginning, and we're also still actively employing people. The expectations are high because we think that there's a lot of room for first-class fast delivery on the Croatian market and the inclusion of a large number of partners in the on-demand economy trend. People are now accustomed to having everything at their fingertips, quickly and easily accessible, and that's what we provide - products from the entire city delivered within 30 to 60 minutes to the end user,'' stated general manager for Glovo Croatia, Teo Širola.

This Spanish startup started back in 2015 in Barcelona, Spain, and has since expanded to 105 cities, ranging from Paris and Milan and Istanbul and Nairobi, in twenty countries across Europe, Africa, Central and South America. More than fifteen million orders from partners such as McDonald's, KFC, Starbucks, and the like have been delivered around the globe via Spain's Glovo app. They have more than three million users, 10,000 partners and work with a network that involves more than 30,000 couriers.

"The first reactions we've had have been positive. We still need to educate the market in terms of the service we provide and explain that what we do is exclusively delivery. Specifically, we deliver straight from the restaurant (or store) to the customer, effectively delivering the service as if the buyer picked up the food (or the item) themselves. This is different from the services that have been provided on our market so far, where more orders are delivered at the same time, so, let's say, the tastes and smells have been mixed, and the food that eventually comes to the customer's door is cold,'' noted Širola. Aside from doing deliveries by car, Glovo uses bicycles and scooters to squeeze through heavy city traffic faster, and offer a more ecologically aware delivery option.

"Zagreb is accelerating the transformation in the domain of fast delivery in Croatia, and our vision is to bring the practicality of technology closer to everyone," says Širola.
