NK Osijek 75th Birthday Jersey Presented ahead of Dinamo Derby

February 27, 2022 - The NK Osijek 75th birthday jersey will be worn in Sunday's derby against Dinamo before it is available in limited numbers to purchase on Monday.

On Sunday at 18:00, Osijek will welcome Dinamo in the fight for the HNL title. Osijek also celebrates its 75th birthday in the Dinamo derby. On that occasion, the Slavonian club released a new, limited edition jersey that the players will wear only against Dinamo.

The celebratory jersey is inspired by jerseys from the late 1980s and boasts recognizable white and blue colors.

"A unique feature of Sunday's match will be the birthday jersey in which Osijek will play, created exclusively for the match, which will mark the 75th anniversary of our club. Inspired by jerseys from the late 1980s and with recognizable white and blue colors, Sunday's derby will give a touch of some somewhat forgotten times.

This limited edition jersey to celebrate NK Osijek's 75th birthday will be available from February 28 at the Sportoro store in Avenue Mall. The quantities of these birthday jerseys are limited, and the price is 500 kuna," Osijek informed.

NK Osijek announced its birthday on its website earlier this week:

"The derby at City Garden is of great importance in every way, as is evidenced by the sold-out tickets.

Apart from its great importance in terms of competition, the match between Osijek and Dinamo will be exciting and is eagerly awaited for several other reasons. On Sunday, the only Slavonian first division team will celebrate its 75th birthday, which is also important because it is a jubilee anniversary. The central part of the celebration is the derby at City Garden.

Sunday's match will also be the jubilee thousandth in the fight for points in the HNL. How convenient it is that the championship's two best-placed teams, separated by only one point in the standings, will play in that match. A great derby in every way, probably the biggest so far in the mutual meetings between Osijek and the multiple-Croatian-champion Dinamo. Of course, the fan atmosphere will be crazy, which is best shown in that all tickets have been sold, which were available to football fans in limited quantities due to epidemiological conditions.

We remember February 29, 1992.

When we mention the number 1000 in the context of the total number of NK Osijek matches in the Croatian league, it is nice to recall the first one, played on February 29, 1992, in Đakovo. Due to the imminent danger of war, we could not be the hosts at our stadium at that time, and Osijek's first opponent was Zagreb. Thanks to Špehar's goal in the 7th minute, in front of about 3,000 spectators, we celebrated 1:0, which remained in the club's history. Coach Stjepan Čordaš then decided on a team consisting of: Ilica Perić, Ivica Kulešević, Zoran Kastel, Alen Petrović, Davor Rupnik, Tomislav Steinbruckner, Željko Pakasin (since 82. Stijepan Vranješ), Davor Bajsić, Nenad Bjelica, Robert Špehar and Antun Labak (from 46. Slaven Vrbanić)."

HNS Secures EUR 44 million for Croatian Football TV and Media Rights Over Next 4 Years

February 22, 2022 - The Croatian Football Federation has secured 44 million euros for Croatian football TV and media rights over the next four competition years.

At Monday's session, the Croatian Football Federation Executive Board decided on selecting partners for television and media rights for competitions under the auspices of HNS for the next four competition years, reports the HNS website

After terminating the contract with Endorphin Magine, the HNS management held meetings with companies interested in buying TV and media rights, followed by three official offers to purchase TV rights - A1 Croatia, Hrvatski Telekom, Sportklub and AB SportConsulting. At the same time, the SuperSport offer for media rights arrived.

At the session, the HNS Executive Board considered the three received offers and chose Hrvatski Telekom, which was the most generous of 9 million euros per year. Thus, in the four years that the contract is expected to last, Hrvatski Telekom will pay 36 million euros to HNS for the associated TV rights.

In addition, the SuperSport offer for media rights of 1.5 million euros per competition year for sponsorship rights and 500,000 euros per competition year for betting rights was accepted.

In total, HNS has secured 44 million euros for television and media rights over the next four years.

"As we announced last week, we quickly found the best solution for Croatian clubs and Croatian football as a whole. Negotiations with interested companies showed great interest in Croatian club football and accepted offers from HT and SuperSport best confirm this great value.

We are glad to continue our cooperation with Hrvatski Telekom, which has been a great partner of Croatian football for many years, so we do not doubt that this cooperation will be very successful. This is an unprecedented step forward for the Federation and our clubs, and I am convinced that these 44 million euros will ensure further progress in the First League and all other competitions," said HNS President Marijan Kustić.

An agreement has also been made between Hrvatski Telekom and HRT, according to which one match of each round will be broadcast on national television.

Croatian Sports in September 2022: Busiest Month for Sporting Events this Year

February 19, 2022 - There is no doubt that the World Cup in Qatar from November 21 to December 18 is the most anticipated sporting event in 2022, but did you know that September will be the busiest for Croatian athletes? A look at Croatian sports in September 2022.

The craziest period of 2022 when it comes to sports will be the month of September, in which an incredible number of events await us, both at the club and national team level, reports Gol.hr

European Water Polo Championships in Split
The European Water Polo Championship will be played in Split this summer at the Spaladium Arena from August 27 to September 10.

Under the leadership of coach Ivica Tucak, the Barracudas will be chasing a medal, with the ubiquitous hope that after 12 years, they could go all the way and be crowned European champions.

EuroBasket in four countries
Another Croatia national team will compete at the continental basketball festival this September. Namely, EuroBasket starts on the first day of September and lasts until the 18th and will be played in four countries: the Czech Republic, Georgia, Italy, and Germany.

Croatia's basketball players will, perhaps for the last time at a major competition, be led by Bojan Bogdanović.

Vatreni, Croatian First League (HNL), Champions League, Europa League
Football is an extraordinary story in the September calendar this year. The new season of the First HNL will be in full swing, and in the first two weeks of September, two rounds of the Champions League group stage, the Europa League and the Conference League, will be played.

The Croatia national football team will be in action in the second half of September, awaiting the Nations League's fifth and sixth rounds. Croatia will welcome Denmark on September 22 and visit Austria three days later.

Tennis will come to the fore between the club and national football activities. The Davis Cup group stage, which will bring together sixteen teams divided into four groups, the first two of which will qualify for the knockout phase, has been moved to September, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) announced on Thursday.

From now on, the two phases - group and knockout, will be separated. The first is scheduled for September 14-18, and the second (quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals) from November 23 to 27, the ITF said.

This will be a crazy and exciting 30 days for Croatian sports fans!

NK Osijek Shakes Up HNL Transfer Deadline with Kristijan Lovrić Signing

February 16, 2022 - NK Osijek managed to stir up the final hours of the HNL transfer window by bringing the high-in-demand Kristijan Lovrić from Gorica to City Garden.

The First HNL transfer window has been concluded - and it ended with a bomb and the unexpected transfer of Kristijan Lovrić from Gorica to Osijek.

The 26-year-old winger has played 21 games in the First HNL this season. Lovrić spent 1,803 minutes on the pitch, which was enough for him to score seven goals and five assists. He added three appearances and three goals in the Cup. His market value according to Transfermarkt is five million euros.

Gorica should earn around two million euros for Lovrić, and the player signed with Osijek for four and a half years.

"After three and a half years, 120 appearances, 54 goals, and 29 assists in the HNK Gorica jersey, Kristijan Lovrić left our club and became a player of NK Osijek," Gorica announced on its Facebook confirming the news.

Lovrić arrived as a replacement for Petar Bočkaj, who moved to Dinamo Zagreb on Christmas Eve for 2.5 million euros. After the arrival of Mijo Caktaš this winter, Lovrić is the second big reinforcement for Osijek, who are now even more ready to fight with Dinamo, Hajduk, and Rijeka.

Along with Petar Bočkaj, Dinamo also brought Azerbaijani Mahir Emreli from the Warsaw Legia, and released left-back Marin Leovac to Osijek.

Along with Lovrić, Osijek brought Mijo Caktaš, who terminated his contract with Saudi club Damac. Kristian Fućak, Vinko Petković, Alen Grgić, Antonio Mance, and Diego Barri arrived with Caktaš.

Hajduk also had a successful transfer period. Midfielder Lukas Grgić, right back Dino Mikanović, stopper Ferro and forward Nikola Kalinić have joined the team. Among the significant departures is stopper Kristian Dimitrov to the Romanian CFR Cluj. Hajduk earned half a million euros by selling Marin Jakoliš to Angers, France.

Rijeka brought stopper Sava-Arangel Čestić from Cologne, Germany, free of charge. Colombian right-back Andres Solano from Atletico Madrid's B team also arrived. Rijeka was left without an important first-team player Ivan Tomečak who went to Paphos, Cyprus.

January 5, 2022 - Hajduk and Ajax will open their spring season preparations in Portugal with a friendly match at Estádio Algarve in Faro.

Hajduk will open their spring season preparations in Portugal with a friendly match against Ajax, which will take place at Estádio Algarve in Faro, reports the Split club.

Hajduk arrives in Portugal for the main preparations on January 8, and one day later (January 9), coach Valdas Dambrauskas will lead the team to their first exam against the most trophy-winning Dutch club, which currently occupies second place in the Dutch championship and will play in the Champions League round of 16.

Hajduk and Ajax last met in the Champions League quarterfinal in 1995. The first match at Poljud ended 0:0, and Ajax won the return match in the Netherlands 3:0 and ultimately won the Champions League.

Coach Valdas Dambrauskas and his assistants gathered the team at Poljud on Monday to begin preparations for the continuation of the season.

The following 33 players attended the first gathering at Poljud:

Danijel Subasic, Nikola Katic, David Colina, Josip Vukovic, Kristian Dimitrov, Marco Fossati, Alexander Kacaniklic, Stefan Simic, Samuel Eduok, Marko Brkljaca, Mario Cuic, Ivan Calusic, Dario Melnjak, Dimitrios Diamantakos, Josip Elez, Jani Atanasov, Filip Krovinovic , Luka Škaričić, Gergo Lovrencsics, Jan Mlakar, Ivan Dolček, Toni Silić, Ivan Perić, Josip Posavec, Emir Sahiti, Marin Ljubičić, Lovre Kalinić, Rokas Puktšas, Filip Čuić, Ivan Krolo, Franjo Lazar, Šimun Hrgović, Ivan Čubelić. Marko Livaja and Stipe Biuk will join later.

Hajduk's pre-season training will end in Portugal on January 23.

The players were addressed by coach Dambrauskas, sports director Mindaugas Nikoličius, and president Lukša Jakobušić to open the preparations.

"In the past period, we had several players positive for coronavirus. A Covid protocol at the club must be followed, but I must point out that the situation is under control. The most important thing is to make progress, and we know what we need to do. This is a crucial moment for the second part of the season. We have to do a good job because we will not be able to do that in March and April. When you look at the performance in the last seven games since I’ve been on the bench, we’ve progressed in mentality, in the relationships between players on and off the field, in tactical terms and style of play. But we still have a lot of work to do," said coach Valdas Dambrauskas.

"We will be in Split for a short time, six days, and then we will go to a training camp in Portugal where we will prepare for 15 days. We will play a few friendly matches there, and very soon, we will officially sign an agreement with Ajax for a friendly match on January 9 in the Algarve. Then we play against Servette on January 13 and two games with Slavia Prague on January 22. After that, we will probably play another game against Servette and Slavia. It was supposed to be Celtic, but they are not coming to Portugal due to the corona situation," added the sports director Mindaugas Nikoličius.
