January 26, 2022 – Following one cancelled year and a hesitant 2021, Croatian Music Festivals in 2022 look to return to normal operations. Even before the end of January 2022, two favourite events in Tisno, Dalmatia – Defected Croatia and Dekmantel Selectors – have this week sold out all tickets!

For a whole new generation of young dreamers and visitors, Croatia is on their annual wish list because of its music festivals. Set by pristine waters and beaches, in the guaranteed sunshine of a Dalmatian summer, photos of Croatia's music festivals have travelled across the world and brought international acclaim.

In 2020, all of these music festivals (except veteran domestic events at Martinska, Šibenik) were cancelled. Even in 2021, neither full confidence nor the full schedule had returned – Ultra Europe (Split) and Love International (Tisno) remained absent.

However, if early indications are anything to go by, trust in the summertime spectaculars seems to have completely returned for Croatian Music festivals in 2022. In fact, even before the end of January 2022, two favourite events in Tisno, Dalmatia – Defected Croatia and Dekmantel Selectors – have this week announced they've sold out.

News revealed exclusively to Total Croatia News informs that the rest of the summer music festivals held at The Garden Resort, Tisno are not far behind - almost all are within sight of completely selling out all tickets.

On 11 July 2022, Ultra Brač will visit Brač island's 585 Club. On 12 July 2022, there will be an afternoon beach party on the Pakleni islands, near Hvar island. Later that day, a nighttime event Resistance Hvar will take place at Carpe Diem Beach Club, Hvar island.

The Resistance Closing Party Vis is the last event and will take place on 13 July at the old Fort George (Fortica) on Vis island.

With the relatively recent addition of Defected Croatia, Outlook Origins and Dimensions to the 10+ year reputation of the Garden Resort roster, this festival site can now truly claim to be the epicentre of underground electronic dance music in Croatia.

Across its summer-long run, some of the world's best underground DJs visit this place, its beach and boat parties, plus the incredible open-air Barbarellas nightclub in nearby Pirovac. Each event lasts several days and is limited to between 5000 – 7000 people.

The longest-running festival associated with The Garden resort, Suncebeat traces its love affair with Croatia back to Petrcane, near Zadar, over 12 years ago. It, therefore, draws a slightly older crowd of house, disco and soul music aficionados.

Šibenik Music Festivals 2022 – Martinska, Seasplash and Project Vojarna

Martinska

Located on a perfectly secluded seaside peninsula, just outside the city of Šibenik, the Martinska venue hosts a summer-long run of intimate music festivals within fantastic natural surroundings. Events range from punk music and live concerts to more modern electronic styles. Most famous internationally is the reggae and dub event Seasplash Festival which celebrates its 20th birthday between July 14th - 17th 2022.

Project Vojarna

Just over half a decade old, Project Vojarna is a dance music event born from the collaboration of Šibenik electronic music enthusiasts. In its current standing, the main event is a 10-hour open-air rave held at a former military barracks just outside Šibenik. Each year the event grows in fame and stature. This year's event will take place on 23 July.

BSH Island

BSH Island is one of the jewels in the Croatian festival crown and has been leading the way in the local scene in recent years. Its first edition in 2020 brought something new to the region, and the follow up in 2021 made a mark on the international stage and now it returns to Island of Pag for the bigger than ever third edition. This follows two much talked about festivals on Zrce Beach - BSH Island, which included a legendary party in the breathtaking 17th century Fortress overlooking the sea hosted by Amnesia Ibiza, and the epic Amnesia takeover Croatia festival. It was a truly unique experience that offered something completely fresh away from the clubs on Zrce beach, and when you add in the fact that accommodation came in the form of a beautiful yacht docked at Noa Beach Club, it's no wonder BSH Island has made such a special impact.

June 1, 2020 - The 15th edition of the INmusic festival, which has been postponed to June next year due to COVID-19, will feature the international punk world music sensation Gogol Bordello, the festival organizer announced on Monday.

Led by the charismatic Eugene Hütz, Gogol Bordello brings together a diverse group of musicians and performers from all over the world, whose cultural influences also form the unique sound of the group.

Roma and Eastern European influences in Gogol Bordello's songs and performances are combined with energetic punk and dub elements accompanied by violin, accordion and saxophone.

With seven studio albums behind him, one EP, a series of guest appearances with other musicians and in documentaries and feature films, including Lie Schreiber's "Everything is Illuminated" and Madonna's directorial debut "Filth and Wisdom", in two decades of work, Gogol Bordello has established his status as one of the most attractive and unusual phenomena on the world music scene, according to the organizer.

Gogol Bordello joins the already confirmed premiere Croatian performances of The Killers, Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets and Belle and Sebastian as part of the postponed edition of INmusic Festival #15, which will take place at the Jarun Islands in Zagreb from June 21 to 23, 2021. 

Recall, the Zagreb music festival announced it would be postponed last month:

"On April 23rd 2020, the Croatian government has announced updates to the national epidemiological measures and limitations introduced in March to fight the spread of the coronavirus epidemic in Croatia, which include the expected and necessary continuation of bans for large public gatherings and events. In line with similar decisions and bans on public gatherings well into the summer months announced over the past weeks by many European governments, the expected postponement of INmusic festival #15 for June 2021 has now become official. Although we were expecting this decision, it is with a heavy heart that we accept the reality of not being able to attend live concerts and festivals this summer, but we are working hard on delivering the anniversary edition of INmusic festival to you all in 2021.

We would like to thank each and every one of you for your support, kind words, understanding and patience – you were the reason we made it this far, you remain the reason to push through this as well. 

Stay safe, take care of the people around you and keep your spirits up – this too shall pass!

April 13, 2020 - INmusic festival director Zoran Maric talks about the fate of the 15th edition in Zagreb. 

The coronavirus pandemic is affecting the global music industry more severely than initially expected. The ban on public gatherings continues, and it is still not possible to determine or predict when we can enjoy concerts of any kind again, including festivals, whether local or foreign.

Many music festivals around the world have already confirmed new dates - some will be held in late summer/early fall 2020, while some have skipped this year's edition and already announced the same program for 2021.

INmusic, one of Croatia's biggest music festivals, announced a truly impressive line-up this year, including The Killers, Beck and Deftones, who are just part of a fantastic program scheduled for June 22-24, 2020 at Zagreb's Jarun.

Sound Report contacted the INmusic festival director, Zoran Maric, who explained the current situation and organizational challenges they are facing:

"The organization of the INmusic Festival is making every effort to delay the festival when the public health situation allows. Tickets purchased for the 15th INmusic Festival will, of course, be valid for the new term.

In a pandemic situation in which everyone loses, we strongly believe that delaying the festival for a new term is the fairest and safest solution for everyone involved - the audience, musicians and festival organization. If there is no other option, the ultimate option is to cancel the festival, which in this context means that the festival will no longer exist," said Maric, emphasizing that the global music industry is currently facing huge losses, but the health and safety of every visitor is still a top priority.

"In this way, we would like to thank everyone who, by staying in their homes and practicing physical distance, has contributed to the good and controlled epidemiological picture in Croatia, to protecting our own health and that of our loved ones, and equally important, the stability of our health system. And this crisis, like many others before it, will pass, and only in safe conditions can we expect and look forward to returning to a better state of everyday life, which will include international music tours and all other cultural and tourist facilities that we, unfortunately, lost in 2020."

Jutarnji List reports that if INmusic is canceled due to force majeure, there will be no refund. "The INmusic Festival, as an independent festival, has stated in festival rules from the beginning of the event that if the festival is canceled due to force majeure, no refund will be possible for the tickets purchased," they said.

They believe that in the event of cancellation due to force majeure, "everyone involved, therefore, the bands and the organizers and the audience, necessarily bear their share of the loss, which is nevertheless minor for the audience compared to the losses of the bands and the organizers."

This year's INmusic at Zagreb's Jarun was scheduled to feature The Killers, Beck, Deftones, The Lumineers, Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets, Belle and Sebastian, Rival Sons, Gogol Bordello and others.

INmusic is in regular contact with all the performers and says there is a high level of understanding of everyone, from the agencies of the bands, the management, and the bands themselves to the organizers.

"Everyone involved in the realization of such an event is expected to receive the same level of understanding by the audience, precisely because every individual on the planet is somehow affected by the pandemic and its suppression measures," they note.

They expressed the belief that this understanding will enable the 15th INmusic Festival to take place, if not in June this year, then at a time when the public health situation will be stable and the threat of the uncontrolled spread of the infection will be overcome.

February 19, 2020 - The legendary Nick Mason, founder, drummer and long-time member of Pink Floyd, is bringing supergroup Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets to INmusic Zagreb!

Namely, Dnevnik.hr reports that Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets will take festivalgoers on a special musical journey on INmusic’s 15th birthday.

Creating the unique and inimitable sound of Pink Floyd, commonly described as art rock or progressive rock, Nick Mason and his bandmates Roger Waters, David Gilmour, Richard Wright and Syd Barrett became music immortals and some of the most notable musicians of the 20th century. Pink Floyd's influence is enormous, and is said to have inspired David Bowie, U2, Queen, Radiohead, Kraftwerk, Tool, Nine Inch Nails, The Smashing Pumpkins, and more. 

After curating the acclaimed box set The Early Years 1965-1972, dedicated to the early psychedelic work of the cult band, in 2016, Nick Mason decided to make a full-blooded return to the scene after a historic appearance as part of a humanitarian Live 8 concert that last brought together all living members Pink Floyd.

Unlike bandmates David Gilmour and Roger Waters, whose extensive tour focuses on Pink Floyd's later works, their solo works and select early Pink Floyd classics, Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets returns to Pink Floyd's most innovative sound and brings a concert interpretation of the albums from The Piper at the Gates of Dawn to Obscured by Clouds performing. And they exclusively perform only Pink Floyd songs.  Being a cross-section of seven Pink Floyd albums out of a total of 15 studio releases, Nick Mason offers the audience the most extensive concert experience of one of the most significant and greatest rock bands of all time.

In the words of Nick Mason himself, Saucerful of Secrets is his return to his favorite Floyd songs. Seeking to "capture the spirit of the times," Nick Mason brings together top musicians in a supergroup, such as Gary Kemp (Spandau Ballet), Guy Pratt (Pink Floyd bassist after Waters), Lee Harris (Ian Dury & the Blockheads) and Dom Beken (The Orb, Transit Kings) who authentically and vitally reinterpret Pink Pink's most challenging, productive and inventive years. December 18, 2019 - INmusic Festival in Zagreb will hold its Jubilee 15th edition next year, which will take place from June 22-24, 2020. Beck was announced on Wednesday as the festival’s second headliner. 

Jutarnji List reports that the seven-time Grammy award winner, a multitalented artist and risk taker in many musical genres, announced a European tour by confirming his performance on the main stage of the 15th edition of the INmusic Festival. 

Beck's impressive career is characterized by playing with a variety of music genres and a genuinely distinctive sound. The diverse opus of fourteen studio albums has earned Beck the status of arguably the most original and creative alternative rock musician of the past decade.

Drawing on a full range of musical styles, from folk, psychedelia and funk to soul, hip hop, alternative rock, pop, and electronic music, Beck's sound is a hybrid that is unique in the world of music. Over fifty nominations for international awards in the fields of music, design and audiovisual media and twenty titles won, including seven Grammys and three Brit Awards, confirm Beck's global status as a multi-faceted artist whose relentless energy of creation pushes the boundaries with each new studio release.

Thirteen gold and multi-platinum studio albums worldwide, sold-out world tours, countless collaborations with musicians from across the spectrum of contemporary music and unique multidisciplinary art projects are an impressive introduction to his latest, fourteenth studio album, Hyperspace, which was released at the end of November 2019 and presents another face of Beck in the 21st Century.

Nine days ago, the first big name of the 15th edition of INmusic was released. California alternative rockers Deftones will take the stage as part of a tour promoting their long-awaited ninth studio album.

The Deftones were most often associated with ‘nu-metal’, but because of the specificity of their sound, they were never easy to be defined. Critics have also described them as alternative metal, art-rock/art metal, experimental rock, post-punk, and even dream-pop and trip-hop. 

"Since its inception, the multiplatinum and Grammy Award-winning California alternative rockers Deftones have been pushing to create music that is unique to them - balancing and exploring the extremes of aggressive metal sound and elements of psychedelia and shoegaze," INmusic announced. 

The Deftones performed in Zagreb back 2006, in the backyard of club Močvara, which was the first performance of the band in Croatia, though they have been active for over thirty years. Deftones was founded in 1988 by Chino Moreno, Stephen Carpenter and Abe Cunningham, high school friends who were connected by the local skateboard scene. The line-up has changed several times, as the members also had side projects, but they maintained continuity in releasing albums and concert performances.

The INmusic Festival, which celebrates its 15th anniversary next year, will be held from June 22 to 24, 2020, at the traditional location of the Jarun lake in Zagreb. Three-day festival tickets are available through the official festival webshop.

The legendary English alternative band The Cure, the main headliner of the 14th edition of INmusic in Zagreb, marked the final day of the biggest outdoor Croatian festival with the hits of their longstanding career - and played tirelessly for the audience for more than two hours, reports Jutarnji List on June 27, 2019.

Although they have been prevalent in Croatia since the 1980s, The Cure, led by Robert Smith, had yet to hold a concert in Croatia until now. 

Before the start of the concert, the biggest fans of The Cure, who flocked to Croatia from countries around Europe, secured their spots at the front of the main stage. The band began their set around 11 pm. 

Famous for their live performances, The Cure buzzed through a 28-song set list of timeless hits such as "Pictures of You", "In Between Days", "A Forest", "Just Like Heaven," "Lullaby" , "Friday I'm In Love", "Close To Me" and "Boys Do not Cry".

The audience followed them energetically, maintaining their enthusiasm throughout the entire concert, and did not stop even after two hours and twenty minutes! An incredible effort by band members Smith, Simon Gallup, Reeves Gabrels, Roger O'Donnell, and Jason Cooper.

Before the English legends hit the stage, the American songwriter Laura Pergolizzi, also known as LP, presented her new album "Hearth To Mouth".

The glittering vocals, recognizable whistles and the hit "Lost On You" thrilled a much larger audience than her modest Croatian debut at St. Michael's Fortress in Šibenik. 

The Croatian band Kojoti had the honor of performing between LP and The Cure, who presented material from their new album.

The main stage also featured the Italian electro/darkwave band JoyCut, whose career began their upward journey after The Cure frontman Robert Smith invited them to perform at the Meltdown Festival in London last year.

The electronic post-rock band from Bologna, led by Pasquale Pezzillo, delighted fans with the hit ”The Hanging Garden" and led them through his mostly instrumental repertoire for over an hour.

The final day of INmusic also included several local bands, such as Mangroove, the hip hop and rap ensemble of Kandžija and Gole Žene.

The 14th edition of INmusic was marked by some of the most influential names in rock and alternative scenes - and the three-day festival closed with the long-awaited Croatian performance of The Cure.

Garbage and Suede performed for the first time in Croatia, and the headliners of the first night - the indie pop band Foals, attracted the younger part of the festival audience, mainly from England, where this band is particularly popular. 

The three days of INmusic saw forty performers who adorned the festival lineup with a colorful mix of rock, electronic, alternative and pop music. Mayor of Zagreb Milan Bandić and Jakov Kitarović, the husband of Croatian president Kolinda Grabar Kitarović, even made an appearance.

Nord, Kevlar Bikini and dno. are the three new Croatian acts set to enhance the 14th INmusic festival this summer.

True English alternative rock icons and one of the most influential bands of all time, The Cure, will headline INmusic Festival #14! The Cure will have their debut Croatian performance on the main stage of the country’s biggest open air festival, to be held at Jarun Lake from June 24 to June 26, 2019.

According to estimates, 90,000 people are expected at the three-day festival on Jarun Lake in Zagreb.
