ZAGREB, 15 Sept, 2021 - The San Pelagio port, a new, HRK 53.4 million (€7.12 million) investment in the northern Adriatic city of Rovinj, which is expected to relieve the burden on the Andana port in the city centre, was opened on Wednesday.
The new port is intended exclusively for personal vessels up to eight metres in length, the Rovinj Port Authority said.
Port Authority head Donald Schiozzi said the new port was being opened ahead of 16 September, the Day of the City of Rovinj and its patron saint, St. Euphemia.
Mayor Marko Paliaga recalled that construction work on the new port started in late 2019, noting that currently more than 1,000 smaller vessels are registered in the city.
The largest part of the investment was contributed by Rovinj and its port authority, HRK 8.5 million was contributed by the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure while Istria County participated with HRK 1.6 million.
Josip Bilaver, State Secretary at the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure and the government's envoy at the inauguration of the port, said the government had recognised the importance of investing in port infrastructure and would continue with such projects.

ZAGREB, 26 April, 2021 - Transport Minister Oleg Butković said on Monday that in addition to current programmes, there is more than HRK 1 billion available from the National Recovery and Resilience Plant and the EU multiannual financial framework until 2027 for the reconstruction of the port infrastructure.
Butković visited the construction site for the modernisation and reconstruction of ports in Dubrovnik-Neretva County, including the Lapad waterfront which is being financed with a HRK 70 million grant.
"Never before has so much work been done on building and reconstructing the port infrastructure, primarily thanks to EU and national funds. This county has the most projects of this nature, eight, which are worth HRK 800 million," said Butković.
Dubrovnik Mayor Mato Franković said that the works to the Lapad waterfront should be completed in 30 months.
Dubrovnik-Neretva County Prefect Nikola Dobroslavić recalled that the county had absorbed HRK 6.7 billion in EU funds and was the most successful county in absorption.
Minister Butković will also visit the Trpanj port, which is being reconstructed for HRK 16 million, while on the island of Korčula he will visit two breakwaters under reconstruction. In Vela Luka he will sign a contract valued at HRK 75 million for the construction of a new ferry passenger terminal.

ZAGREB, 11 March, 2021 - Several contracts, worth 17.5 million kuna, for reconstruction of seaports and waterfronts in the broader Rijeka area were signed on Thursday by Sea and Transport Minister Oleg Butković and local authorities.
The contracts envisaging the upgrade of ports on the islands of Krk, Rab and Lošinj as well as the coastal cities of Bakar, Mošćenička Draga, Novi Vinodolski, Crikvenica and Kraljevica are part of the Croatian Coast Renaissance project in which two billion kuna has been invested to date, and the lion's share of this amount has been ensured from EU funds.
Minister Butković said today that investments in seaport infrastructure would continue.

As we've already gotten used to, the end of the high tourist season usually means the start of construction works - and the Crikvenica Port Authority plans to improve Crikvenica's port in order to improve the connection between Crikvenica and the island of Krk just across the channel, hrturizam.hr writes.
Crikvenica is one of the biggest tourist hubs in Kvarner, a region located in the northern part of the Croatian coast, very popular with people from Zagreb, because of its proximity to the Croatian capital.
The planned construction includes the building of the breakwater on the west side of the port, 130 metres long, as well as the 60-metre-long "small pier", and will be continued in the next week, as it had to be suspended during the tourist season.
It's the biggest investment into the infrastructure since the Crikvenica Port Authority has been established, and up until recently, it was the biggest investment into the maritime domain within Primorje-Gorski Kotar County.
Mario Kružić, Head of the Crikvenica Port Authority explains that, with the tourist season now behind them, the works will pick up so that the deadlines can be met.
A lot of the work has already been completed, mostly the parts that needed to be done underwater, and some of the concrete has already been poured. Once the entire project is completed, it will take the tourist and nautical offer of Crikvenica to a new level.
Additionally, all of the security requirements for the introduction and non-stop operation of the boat line Crikvenica - Šilo on Krk island will be met. That boat line holds great importance to those living on Krk island, as it will improve transport throughout the year, and help integrate Croatian islands into a wider traffic network. That will improve the employment level, the level of education, and access to medical care for all of the inhabitants of Krk.
Along with the current works on the renovation of the Senj harbour, the Senj Port Authority has begun to develop projects for the extension of Senj's port, so that the breakwaters can be lengthened.
As Morski writes on the 2nd of April, 2019, the Điga breakwater, more specifically the Sv. Marija breakwater, would be extended by a further one hundred metres, adjusted to the length of Jadrolinija's ferries, and the Hungarian riva (waterfront), would be extended by another thirty metres. The construction of a brand new waterfront instead of Senj's current wooden waterfront would add another pier to the southernmost part of the harbour, opposite to Tičak house. According to the conceptual solution which has been drawn up for the project, this operation would cost around 110 million kuna net, and VAT still needs to be added to that figure, Novi list writes.
An assessment on the environmental impact for this project has already been prepared, which is already in process at the Ministry of Environmental Protection, and after the release of the competent ministry's observations, what further steps which need to be taken will be known, eventually followed by the issuance of the required building permits.
''Breakwaters can be co-funded from EU funds and we've already asked for this and have received a firm opinion on it, and internal arrangements such as the 300 new communal berths can be funded from national funds and from the Port Authority's budget,'' said Senj's port authority director Predrag Dešić, adding that with the realisation of this project, Senj's port would boast much greater functionality.
In the port part of the Hungarian waterfront, the conditions for accommodating tourist ships and smaller cruisers would be created, which would substantially restore the basic role of the harbour, while ferries to nearby islands and liner ships would have their place at Điga. After this extension, Senj could be a significant port for tourists from Istria and from the islands, such as Lošinj and Cres, who would like to visit Plitvice Lakes because a combination by sea to Senj and buses to Plitvice would shorten their journey by about two hours, make it much more enjoyable, and the actual visit to Plitvice would last longer. This is a very desirable combination, given that road traffic, especially in the summer, is slow and cumbersome.
New funding in the amount of three million kuna, approved by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure for the Senj Port Authority this year, will be intended for the repair of the main harbour, which is essentially a continuation of the works on the current project of renovating Senj harbour as a whole.
