April 26, 2022 - The songs and performers at the 62nd Split Festival, held at the beginning of July at Prokurative in Split, have been announced! 

At this year's 62nd music event, in addition to the final evening of new songs, the program will also include a retro evening and an exclusive Split Festival opening concert. On July 3, the final evening, some of the biggest names in the music scene will perform new songs alongside young musicians and songwriters who are given the opportunity to embrace one of the most beautiful stages, reports Dalmacija Danas. 

After an intensive, multi-day, and exhaustive listening to three hundred songs received for the competition, the Split Festival artistic jury consisting of Eduard Gracin, head of the music department of Radio Split, Katarina Perišić, music editor of Radio Dalmatia, professor Nenad Šiškov, composer, producer and arranger, Jelena Vlačić, and composer and director of the Split Festival Tomislav Mrduljaš, has selected the performers and songs that will be featured at the 62nd Split Festival, the most important festival of popular music in Croatia.

Twenty-five songs have been selected to be performed at Prokurative this year.

August 21, 2021 - Aleksander Čeferin, Luis Figo, Johannes Hahn, Zvonimir Boban, Predrag Mijatović, Darijo Srna, Florent Malouda, Maxwell Andrade, and Fernando Hierro took part in the 25th anniversary of the Plasma Youth Sports Games in Split.

The 25th Plasma Youth Sports Games in Split on Friday brought together many international sports stars and officials who came to congratulate the largest amateur sports event in Europe on this great jubilee, reports Dalmacija Danas.

The program began with a solemn ceremony at the Croatian Home in Split, which brought together longtime partners, friends, and ambassadors of the Games.

The international sports stars were led by Luis Figo, who arrived in the company of Zvonimir Boban, Maxwell Andrade, Hierro, Malouda, Darijo Srna, and Predrag Mijatović.

Special awards for long-term support and cooperation were given to Zoran Mamić, Tommy doo Supervisory Board Presiden, Zoran Bogdanović, Chief Executive Officer of Coca-Cola HBC on behalf of the Coca-Cola partner of the ceremony, Predrag Mijatović, Ambassador of Plasma Youth Sports Games, Johannes Hahn, European Commissioner for Budget and Administration for the 2020 Ambassador of the Year, and Alexander Ceferin for 2021 Ambassador of the Year.

“Sport connects, sport is love, sport is unique, sport earns the respect of all people, so a big tribute to everything that the Plasma Youth Sports Games do. As long as I am the president of UEFA and the UEFA Children's Foundation, I will fully support the work of the Games within my capabilities," said Čeferin.

The stars were greeted by Ivica Puljak, Mayor of Split, and Davor Božinović, Croatia's Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister. Members of the Ministry of the Interior, in cooperation with the Plasma Youth Sports Games, have been conducting a large educational campaign "Be a fan, not a breaker", which aims to prevent violence on sports fields. In addition, they jointly implemented the National Road Safety Program.

"This is a great event, dedicated to the great idea and vision of young people, who are still young even after 25 years. Youth sports games have given a new dimension to sports in Split and sports in Croatia. In these challenging times, it is important to care for children and separate them as much as possible from mobile phones and computers so that they can fully accept healthy lifestyles," said Davor Božinović.

In his emotional speech, Zdravko Marić, President of Plasma Youth Sports Games, thanked everyone who gave their all to the success of the Games and pointed out: “We try to add up, try to summarize a quarter of a century in some statistics to describe well how we grew, how we expanded, how we did not give up. We have been promoting tolerance, friendship, solidarity, and fair play for a quarter of a century and we hope that in these 25 years we have woven exactly these values ​​into many generations of our children and youth in Croatia and the region.”

Zlatko Dalić, Stipe Pletikosa, and Marijan Kustić, HNS president, but also famous citizens of Split - Gibonni and Tonci Huljić, and guests from Serbia led by Vanja Udovičić, Serbian Minister of Youth and Sports, were also at the ceremony.

After the festive program, the guests hurried to change into jerseys as Prokurative transformed to host a football spectacle at 8 pm: revival matches featuring participants in the international finals of the Plasma Youth Sports Games from Croatia, Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina against world sports stars and friends of the Games.

Tihomir Gudić, executive director of Plasma Youth Sports Games, celebrated football player Igor Tudor, and Igor Angelovski coached the young athletes. The star team was led by coaches Zdravko Marić, Martina Dalić, and Davor Božinović.

Fulfilling the dream of playing with your idols was the biggest reward for the excited little footballers who seriously impressed Figo, Srna, Stanić, Boban, and other stars. That this would be a serious football clash was also clear with the arrival of Robert Rosetti, a world-famous football coach. The fan atmosphere, which has not been seen for a long time at a sporting event, was heightened by the victory of young athletes against world stars. Prokurative turned into a spectacular football field thanks to Green Luxury. The match could be watched live by the citizens of Split and guests of the city in the fan zone on the Riva, where the real fan atmosphere was provided by Indira.

The closing ceremony was held on the Riva, where Alexander Čeferin, Predrag Mijatovic, and Johannes Hahn presented awards to young ambassadors from Croatia, Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The young athletes and guests were greeted by Ivica Puljak, Mayor of Split, Tomislav Družak, State Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, Nikola Brnjac, Minister of Tourism and Sports, Zdravko Marić, and Davor Božinović, who closed the 25th season of the Games. Before the celebration, congratulations were sent by video from many athletes: Luka Modrić, Goran Ivanišević, Slaven Bilić, Edin Džeko, Dragan Stojković Piksi, and many others, regretting that they failed to attend the celebration.

The beautiful night in Split ended with a big fireworks display and a concert by Sergej Ćetković.

As part of the International Finals in Split from August 17-21, as part of the implementation of the Youth Sports Fair Chance project, games were held with the participation of students and teachers from Croatia, Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Infographics created during the implementation of the project on the fight against violence, racism, discrimination, and intolerance in sports were presented, and panel discussions and sports activities for children were organized.

The Youth Sports Fair Chance project is co-financed by the Erasmus + program of the European Union, and the total value of the project is 365,525.00 euros. The project was also presented at a ceremony at the Croatian Home.

Plasma Youth Sports Games are the largest amateur sports event in Europe and in its 25 years of existence have gathered more than 2 million children and youth athletes. Every year from January to August they organize sports competitions in 10 sports (Tommy tournament in indoor soccer 2009, Coca-Cola Cup in football, HEP handball tournament, Croatian Post Cup tennis tournament, Kinder tournament in street basketball, beach volleyball, volleyball, chess under the auspices of FIDE, table tennis, dodge ball, and 60m race) and sports-educational event Telemach Sports Day.

June 26, 2020 - We are a little more than two weeks away from the Jubilee 60th Split Festival at Prokurative, which began its story back in 1960.

Slobodna Dalmacija writes that over a time that includes the Homeland War, as well as many other social turbulences, the festival has spawned more than two thousand songs and many great hits ("Nima Splita do Splita", "Moj galebe", "Picaferaj", "Skalinada", "Ne diraj moju ljubav", etc). It seems that, as things stand now, not even the coronavirus pandemic will not stop the cult festival.

Director Tomislav Mrduljaš says that everything is ready for July 11 and 12, when a retro evening with hits that marked the past decades of the festival should be held, interpreted by the best performers from the Croatian stage, and finally an evening of new songs.

Twenty-two songs have been selected, some of which were written during the recent quarantine in March and April. Some of the musicians you'll be able to see at Prokurative are Neno Belan, Jole, Goran Karan, Ibrica Jusić, Mladen Grdović, Klapa "Rišpet", Alen Nižetić, Teddy Spalato, Giuliano, Petar Dragojevic, Marko Tolja, and Frajle from Serbia. 

HRT will broadcast everything live, starting at 9:30 pm, as it has in previous years. However, given the re-emergence of the coronavirus, the question is whether there will be any changes, which Mrduljaš is aware of. All of his plans, unfortunately, are still up in the air.

"We regularly monitor the entire situation, measures and instructions of our National Headquarters and we will act in accordance with them. So far, there are no changes, the production is going according to plan and we are not thinking about postponing the date, but we are very organized. Of course, I'm not happy about everything that is happening with the corona again, but I can guarantee that we will hold the festival in safe conditions and that no one will be endangered," Mrduljaš points out and adds that the festival orchestra of 30 to 35 people will be on the spectacular stage, as well as four backing vocals.

"All of them will be separated from each other as prescribed by the measures. There are no stands this year, and we decided to put round tables with chairs. In total, we will be able to accommodate up to 500 spectators, and we have also organized this in a way that respects the spacing. It may happen that the operation of catering facilities will be banned again, so it is possible that this won't happen, but it is difficult at this moment to predict what will happen," says Mrduljaš.

In that case, it is easily possible for the Split Festival to be held without an audience, or a scene of visitors with protective masks on their faces awaits us, but everything will be clearer in the days ahead.

"We listen to the news day by day, the performers call me, some of them are worried, but we hope that everything will be fine, there is no reason to panic... I repeat, we will behave as we are told. The plan was to symbolically mark the beginning of some kind of tourist season in Split, for our local people to come, even those outside Split. Let them be convinced that they can spend their summers in our beautiful Dalmatia in safe conditions," concluded Tomislav Mrduljaš.

June 2, 2020 - The songs and performers of the 60th Split Festival, which will take place at the beginning of July at Prokurative, have been revealed. At this year's jubilee music event, in addition to an evening of new compositions, the program will also have a retro component. 

Dalmatinski Portal writes that as usual, some of the biggest names in the music scene will sing their news songs at the Split Festival, and young musicians and authors who have a successful career ahead of them will have the opportunity to feel the charms of one of the most beautiful stages. Last year's winners Goran Karan and Tedi Spalato return this year, but this time each with their own song. Neno Belan and Zorana Kačić Čatipović will sing together in a duet, while the event will also feature the faithful Tomislav Bralić and Klapa Intrade, the unique Hari, Giuliano, Mladen Grdović, Klapa Rišpet and Alen Nižetić.

After last year's duet and success with Mio Dimšić, Marko Tolja returns to Prokurative this year with his own song. Jole, Ivo Perkušić and The Frajle will also present themselves to the audience with a new composition, and young singers Filomena and Adriana will make their debut.

The musical jury, composed of Eduard Gracin, head of the music department of Radio Split, Katarina Perišić, head of the music department of Radio Dalmatia, professor Nenad Šiškov, composer, producer and arranger, professor Jasminko Šetka and composer and director of the Split festival Tomislav Mrduljaš, given the number of songs received, had a great responsibility to choose the 22 compositions that will be performed at this year's Split Festival.

December 21, 2019 - Christmas Eve would be nothing without bakalar and fritule. Thus, the City of Split, Split-Dalmatia County, the Split Tourist Board, the Split-Dalmatia County Tourist Board, and Chefs of Mediterranean and European cuisine are ensuring that 5,000 of you (at least) won't miss it this holiday season. And all you have to do is show up to Prokurative.

Splitski Dnevnik writes that the City of Split, Split-Dalmatia County, and the Chefs of Mediterranean and European Regions are organizing the already traditional event "Split with Love" on Tuesday, December 24, 2019, at Prokurative where citizens will be greeted with 5,000 servings of Croatia’s Christmas cod, bakalar, from 11 am!

More than forty chefs will participate in preparing this famous Christmas fish, which will once again be cooked in a massive 2.2-meter-wide pot. The bakalar will be served by more than 100 volunteers in biodegradable bowls to add an environmental touch to the holiday season. 

This jumbo pot, which is already a traditional element of events in Split today, was created 14 years ago for this exact manifestation in Skver. The pot will contain 200 kilograms of cod, half a ton of potatoes, 200 kg of chickpeas, 250 kg of onion, 40 liters of olive oil, and five kilos of garlic and parsley.

Along with the free-flowing servings of cod at Prokurative, citizens will also be handed out sweet fried donuts, or fritule, which will be prepared and shared by Split hoteliers and caterers, according to their cherished recipes.

But that’s not all. 

This cod and fritule fest would be nothing without a commemorative holiday program, which will begin at 10:30 am with the Men’s, Women’s and Mixed Klapa KUD Filip Devic.

Along with the City of Split, Split-Dalmatia County, the Split Tourist Board and the Split-Dalmatia County Tourist Board, and the Chefs of Mediterranean and European regional cuisine, this year's event was organized thanks to the help of numerous sponsors and donors.

August 30, 2019 - Mayor of Split, Andro Krstulović Opara, has appointed Marijan Čipčić, an employee of the City Museum, and professor of history and archeologist, as the coordinator for the restoration of the Monumental Fountain (Bajamonti Fountain) on the Riva. This is the first step in the long-standing debate over the reconstruction of the fountain, which was one of the most important city symbols in the late nineteenth and mid-twentieth centuries, reports Slobodna Dalmacija.

Recall, the Monumental Fountain was conceived by the then-mayor Antonio Bajamonti as the crown of the great event - the restoration of the water supply system from the Jadro, which still gives Split drinking water a thousand and a half years later.

It was commissioned in Milan in 1880, and water flowed from it ten years later, three months before Bajamonti's death. It has also been considered a symbol of the community of citizens, since it was funded by residents of all classes, from bishops to the poor. 

Its pools and allegorical figures symbolized the river Jadro and the Adriatic Sea, as well as mythological sea creatures, and the figure of a young man at the top of the fountain with his hand extended to the east referred to the economic orientation of Split towards the hinterland and Bosnia. Soon the fountain became an indispensable protagonist of city postcards, family photographs and monographs of Split.

It was demolished by an unknown decision of the Communist authorities on May 30, 1947, crushed with dynamite and used as a mound in road embankments, and several fragments were rescued by the Solin painter Vjekoslav Parać.

Thanks to the enthusiasm of Split’s older generation, a replica of the fountain was erected to film the Miljenko Smoje series 'Velo Misto', and whole families came to take pictures in front of the never forgotten stone beauty of Split. Unfortunately, more than thirty other public fountains and smaller fountains were erected on city streets and squares when restoring Diocletian's aqueduct in the 19th century. However, only a few smaller ones survived, and two larger ones in Đardin and Pazar.

Since the 1980s, several initiatives have been made to restore the fountain, which the new Split named 'Bajamontuša'. The first in 1990 was prompted by the restoration of the monument to Ban Jelačić in Zagreb's main square.

At the beginning of the 2000s, new initiatives were created, more than 12,000 signatures were collected, and after months of deliberation by the Monuments and Streets Commission - since no original documentation was available to allow the fountain to be reconstructed - a compromise solution was made to build a fountain that would maximally respect the appearance of the original, which was accepted by the City Council.

The initiative for the restoration of the Monumental Fountain on the Riva in Split, formed in 2016, was the most vigorous in proving that the fountain could be replicated, several models were made, and documentation was collected, but no concrete steps were taken.

In March this year, Mayor Krstulović Opara did not announce how conditions were met for the fountain to be restored. In the Split budget for 2019, HRK 250 thousand is planned for the Monumental Fountain, while HRK 2.5 million is set aside for 2020, and HRK 5 million for 2021, which amounts to HRK 7.75 million or about one million euros over three years. 

The named coordinator Čipčić said that his tasks were defined: proposing procedures for the implementation of the Monumental Fountain, monitoring the implementation of activities, proposing the dynamics of drafting technical documentation, preparing and monitoring information and educational activities, and reporting to the mayor on the dynamics of the project.

“The fact that the mayor has appointed a coordinator for the reconstruction project demonstrates that there is a strong will to finally and in the near future resolve the issue, to the delight of the many Split citizens whose ancestors co-financed its construction. Initiatives for its renovation date back to the late 1970s when a model was temporarily installed to film the series 'Velo Misto'.

After the Commission for its Restoration was established at the Friends of Cultural Heritage Society in 2005, the restoration initiatives were intensified. I recall on this occasion the decisions of the City Council of 2006 and 2016, which decided that the Monumental Fountain would be restored, and Mayor Andro Krstulović Opara, following these qualities, included the funds for its reconstruction in the budget for this and next year,” says Čipčić, and reveals:

“The Conservation study is completed, which was sent for expert opinion to the Croatian Council for Cultural Property, the Ministry of Culture, and an advisory body for performing professional and other tasks in the field of protection and preservation of cultural property. My appointment followed this,” he adds, and points out that it is difficult to talk about deadlines the same day he was appointed to the position of coordinator.

“Everyone has their own opinion and that is quite legitimate. The vast majority of our fellow citizens are in favor of rebuilding the Monumental Fountain, as evidenced by various initiatives and signed petitions. But what is certainly important to emphasize here is that the decisions to renovate the Monumental Fountain were made legitimately within the institutions. Here again, I am reminded of the 2006 and 2016 City Council decisions.

That's the merit of things. The renovation of the fountain on the waterfront in Split will re-enrich this space, as it ideally agrees with the close architectural forms of that part of Riva. The act of its restoration will correct one major historical injustice,” concludes Coordinator Čipčić.

After filming the action scenes for The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard in Rovinj and Zagreb with colleagues Samuel L. Jackson and Ryan Reynolds, Hollywood actress Salma Hayek returns to Croatia, and namely Split, to meet yet another Hollywood favorite - Owen Wilson.

Hayek and her new film crew will base in the southern Dalmatian city to film science-fiction film Bliss, directed by Mike Cahill. This is a project by Amazon Studios and Endgame Entertainment, whose filming has already started in Los Angeles. Owen Wilson, along with Selma, makes up the star-studded cast, reports Dalmacija Danas on July 19, 2019.

It is rumored that the celebrity actors will appear in scenes that will be filmed in the heart of Split. In Bliss, Salma will interpret the role of homeless woman, who will fundamentally change the life of a recently divorced Major Greg Gregory (Owen Wilson), whose life was ruined after his marriage fell apart. 

Isabel (Hayek) is convinced that the world we live in is not real and that it is just a simulation within an ideal world in which good fortune and prosperity rule. Greg is at first somewhat suspicious, but Isabel eventually gains hist rust with charisma, and he becomes increasingly convinced that the truths are sound in her theories.

Owen will stay in Split in the coming days to film a few scenes with Hayek in the very heart of Split - the Riva and Prokurative.

While one fan snapped a photo with Wilson at a market in the center, Wilson also visited the famous Split restaurant Zrno Soli during the evening, where he enjoyed numerous delicacies of chef Stjepan Vukadin and was eager to photograph with staff and restaurant guests, reports Dalmatinski Portal.

“He ate fish and had no problem taking photographs with everyone; he reused nobody. The children enjoyed it and in the end, he praised the food and staff of the restaurant,” said Katarina Ševo from the Split restaurant.

On Friday, May 17 at 9:00 am, Prokurative in Split will host a two-day fair of ecological products titled ‘EkoFjera Mediteran’, organized by the Public Institution for Coordination and Development of the Split-Dalmatia County RERA SD and the Association of Ecological Producers of Dalmatia "DALMACIJA EKO", reports Splitski Dnevnik on May 15, 2019. 

EkoFjera will be held for the fourth consecutive year, and each year under a different theme. This year, the theme of the fair aims to promote the Mediterranean diet and way of life, since Ekofjera is held as part of the MD.net project - valorization of the Mediterranean diet as a non-material heritage of UNESCO funded by the European Union through the INTERREG Mediterranean program. One of the most important results of the project is the development of new products based on the Mediterranean diet. Split-Dalmatia County will focus its activities on this segment in the development of products of island secondary school cooperatives.

The organization of EkoFjera Mediteran is just one of the activities of the project that focuses on bringing Mediterranean nutrition closer to school children.

Since its inception in 2016, the fair has been educational and has encouraged the participation of primary and secondary school children from Split-Dalmatia County. This year, the "Mediterranean Ecological Marenada” will be organized for approximately 500 school children of the first grade. School children and their companions will be presented a healthy, ecological version of breakfast as well as the importance of sustainably purchasing and using local foods in their preparation. Several well-known athletes will participate, who will additionally animate their examples of healthy eating for the children. 

Ekofjera is the largest ever this year and for the first time has spread its wings internationally. Namely, more than 60 ecological producers from Croatia and Italy will be presented, which is an excellent opportunity for consumers to meet ecologists and establish long-term contacts for purchasing organic food. Particularly interesting is the fact that this year there will be significantly more producers of fresh programs, and ecological fruits and vegetables, which in previous years was deficient.   

And strap on your dancing shoes for Friday night, as the jazz and Bossanova band Hot Shots will take the stage - with top quality organic wines, brandies and juices for everyone to enjoy.

November 9, 2018 - The public institution RERA, with the support of the Split Tourist Board, is organizing the Day of Culinary Heritage of Split-Dalmatia County, which will be held on Tuesday, November 13 from 10 am to 8 pm at Prokurative (Trg Republike) in Split.

As part of the project, 'Poljički Soparnik' will be presented, which is a part of the protected intangible heritage of the Republic of Croatia.

What is Poljički Soparnik, you might ask? Soparnik is a savory pie with a filling of Swiss chard, onions and parsley. The famous dish originated from the 15th to 19th century, during the Ottoman Empire.
