During the record-breaking 2016, Opatija was visited by 396,000 tourists whose overnight stays for the first time reached 1.2 million - an increase of 3% from the 2015 season. 

It’s always nice to look at how the different regions and towns throughout Croatia celebrate Christmas, and while a lot of eyes have been focused on the holiday blowout that is Advent in Zagreb and other Advent celebrations along the coast including Dubrovnik, Split, and Zadar, how are we celebrating the holidays a bit further up north by the sea?

After the excellent tourist results achieved in 2016, the Tourist Board of Rijeka and Opatija, in preparation for the upcoming year, have devised and issued a joint tourist card - Rijeka & Opatija Tourist Card.

In Opatija at Villa Angiolina on Friday, 25 November, a presentation was held titled "Shanghai meets Croatia in Opatija". The presentation and meeting of tourist associations and employees took place within a three-day stay of the Chinese delegation in Opatija, with the basic aim being to introduce Opatija and Croatian markets, but to also explore the possibilities of cooperation between Chinese and Croatian partners. At the meeting, a letter of intent was been signed between the Tourist Board of Shanghai and Opatija.
