September the 19th, 2021 - The very skilled Croatian diver Vitomir Maricic has broken the Guinness World Record by walking underwater for four entire minutes in just one breath in a swimming pool in Opatija, Kvarner.

For such a small country, the Republic of Croatia certainly delivers the world some amazing talent across a very wide variety of fields, from science and medicine to sport, athletics and everything in between. From Rudjer Boskovic (science) to Luka Modric (football), this Adriatic country continues to impress the international public through the ages. Vitomir Maricic from Rijeka is the latest Croatian name to pop up as he breaks records.

As Morski writes, the Rijeka freediver Vitomir Maricic has officially broken the world record in the longest underwater walk done in one single breath. He took on this Guinness World Record challenge as part of the very first Croatian Congress of Preventive and Sports Medicine and Cardiac Rehabilitation which began in the beautiful coastal town of Opatija.

Vitomir Maricic breathed more than four lengths of the entire pool belonging to the Thalassotherapia Special Hospital for the Medical Rehabilitation of Heart, Lungs and Rheumatism in Opatija, which lasted a little more than four minutes.

Despite his success and his breaking of this amazing world record, there is no rest for the owner of the new Guinness World Record, because he is already travelling with the national team to Cyprus for the World Deep Diving Championships.

ZAGREB, 28 June 2021 - The Croatian national freediving team won three gold medals and two silvers at the World Freediving Championship, held in Belgrade on June 21-27.

The most successful Croatian free diver was Mirela Kardašević, who won a gold medal in the Dynamic Without Fins (DNF) discipline, with a 191-metre swim, a silver in the Dynamic With Bifins (DYNB) discipline and a 232-metre swim, and another silver in the Dynamic With Monofin (DYN) discipline and a 256-metre swim. All the results are national records.

Male free diver Vitomir Maričić won a gold in the Dynamic With Fins, while another male free diver, Vanja Peleš, won a gold in the Dynamic Without Fins, with a 226-metre swim, setting a national record.

On February 24, 2018, AIDA International Diving Competitions were held in Belgrade and the Croatian team were strong contenders, leaving them in a good position building up to the World Championships.

On Sunday 19^th November 2017, Lidija Lijic and Vitomir Maricic successfully completed their freedive in the Himalayas, setting a new world record for diving with breath at height!

On the 10^th November 2017, the Croatian Expedition team successfully completed their acclimatisation in the Himalayas, the first step towards their world record of ‘the highest dive with breath in the world.’ 

From the 30^th October – 18^th November 2017, Croatian divers Lidija Lijić and Vitomir Maričić will head to the Himalayas in an attempt to set a new world record for the highest dive in the world.
