New Tourist Project on Vransko Jezero Plans to Attract a Million Sport Anglers from Germany

By 6 May 2016

The new eco camp site will be fully operational by 2017 while some accommodation units and a restaurant will open this summer.

An entrepreneur from Zagreb, Tomislav Rajić, known to the public for his energy-related businesses, just purchased six and a half hectares of attractive land located just by the Vransko jezero and Park of nature of the same name, Poslovni.hr reports on May 6, 2016.

He purchased the land through his company Planus, at the ninth public auction organized by the Trade court in Zadar. The land also includes buildings that are of key importance for his future plans since he intends to open an eco-campsite. The land in question already has some of the infrastructure from the former campsite, a restaurant, and another auxiliary building.

However, though the property itself is in a very attractive location it will still require a multi-million kuna investment because all the existing buildings and infrastructure have to be refurbished and updated. For instance, planned 50 new mobile homes alone will cost approximately 1 million euros.

Rajić is not alone in this venture, two partners have joined him but their names were not revealed to the public. One thing is sure, Rajić has the necessary financial means and the support of banks to see this project through. Rajić owns three successful companies  Scheidt & Bachmann-Tubs with annual revenues of over 50 million kunas out of which 90% is from export, he owns 814% of shares in Zagorski metalac, a gas distributor for Krapina Zagorje county, while his third company Total energy is a chain of 7 petrol stations.

Since Public company Park of Nature Vransko Jezero still has control over the entire area, this private investor will have to work in cooperation with them and will not be able to make any decisions concerning major undertakings without consulting with them first.

After the auction results were revealed, Rajić inspected the location together with the management of public company PP Vransko jezero and stated that he is well aware of the challenges that are ahead of him and the fact that a lot of his time this year will be spent on paperwork but he will try and open as many facilities as possible by the beginning of summer. All activities have already been discussed and agreed on with PP Vransko jezero.

The plan is to activate the restaurant and as many available accommodation units as possible for this season. While this year will be a test one to see how to proceed with the project, Rajić is planning the big opening next year: "We see great potential for a very long tourist season here. Vransko jezero is just 700 metres from the sea, we have two National parks, Kornati, and Krka, in direct vicinity and two attractions opening in the area amusement park in Biograd and a golf course for which a concession was already issued. Vransko jezero is very popular with anglers and sport fishermen, and only in Germany there are more than 4 million registered anglers” Rajić said.
