Krešimir Macan and Nikola Jelić Take Over Crisis Communications of Agrokor

If anyone needs experts for crisis communications nowadays, it is Agrokor.

The appearance of Krešimir Macan, the owner of Manjgura agency, and Nikola Jelić, former spokesperson of Zoran Milanović’s government and recently an employee of the Millenium agency, at a recent press conference in Agrokor where a temporary crisis management team was presented, could not go unnoticed, reports tportal.hr on April 5, 2017.

The company’s crisis management obviously needs a crisis communications team, so they engaged the two agencies. It is no secret that, since the crisis in the company started, there were hardly any news coming from the company headquarters to the media, and it is clear that Croatia’s largest privately-owned company did not do the job as it should have. A few short sentences were everything which the press officially received in recent days.

It is not clear what Macan and Jelić will precisely do for Agrokor, which did confirm that they had been engaged. “It is normal in these situations to hire PR agencies that can provide an outside view of the situation, with the aim for the whole process of structuring to be open and transparent in communication because, the better the communication, the greater the support of all stakeholders,” said Agrokor, not wanting to disclose who made the decision to hire the agencies, adding that it was the company’s business decision.

At a recent press conference, the public was addressed by Ivona Janjić, who was presented as a spokeswoman for the team of Antonio Alvarez III, who has undertaken the job of restructuring Agrokor. She is a marketing director who started her career in Konzum as a student, and in 2013 she moved to Agrokor, Konzum’s parent company.

Krešimir Macan is a PR expert specializing in crisis communication, strategic communication in politics and new media. Since 1997, he has been running his consultancy Manjgura. In 1998, he was hired by Croatian Radio Television as its first director of corporate communications and spokesman. In mid-2003, he was appointed an advisor to Croatian Prime Minister, with the aim of improving government communications.

From 2004 to 2008, he was executive director of Madison Consulting, a Croatian public relations agency. He has been involved in PR since 1991, when during the Homeland War he served as a secretary to the Ministry of Information, and later as the chief of the Information Department at the Foreign Affairs Ministry (1995).

Before entering the PR business, Nikola Jelić was a journalist for many years. He worked for Slobodna Dalmacija, Novi List, Globus weekly, and Jutarnji List. In spring of 2014, he became the spokesman of Zoran Milanović’s government after the post was left by Ivana Grljak. He entered the PR business about ten days ago, when he started working for Millenium Promocija, a company co-owned by Božo Skoko. He is supported by a whole team from Millenium Promocija.
